“I don’t want to answer that,” Angel mutters.

“No,” Angel says, sharp and bitter. “I think that he thinks he does because it’s easier than acknowledging the reality of what he is and what he did.”

$4,200 though, way outside my price range. 😭

Also found an illustrated first edition of Paradise Lost for $17,500. 😞

But I did buy Oscar Wilde’s The Ballad of Reading Gaol and this book on witchcraft in England!

The Raw Shark Texts (Steven Hall) "Eric Sanderson wakes up with no memory of who he is or any past experiences. He is told by a psychologist that he has a dissociative condition known as fugue but a trail of written clues purporting to be from his pre-amnesiac self describe a more fantastic and sinister explanation for his lack of memories. According to these, he has activated a conceptual shark called a Ludovician which "feeds on human memories and the intrinsic sense of self" and is relentlessly pursuing him and will eventually erase his personality completely.

Also at one point there's about 30 pages of an ASCII shark moving towards the reader. Could easily be interpreted as the Ludovician actually approaching the reader in a Leitner-ized version. (Spoilers under the cut)"

Rather than write using conventions of novels--or of the English language--Joyce structured his book on language itself. The result is surreal, dense, and famously difficult. Tl;dr Finnegan's Wake is so unsettlingly experimental that Joyce had to break the English language down to its components to get his vision down on the page."

Finnegans Wake

The silence is broken by Denji abruptly saying, “You know, one good thing about Aki being a devil now? He can’t make any stupid contracts anymore.”

Angel freezes. He feels his blood run cold, feels the wave of despair rise up within him, and isn’t quick enough to keep it from bleeding out onto his expression. He tries looking down at the table in a desperate attempt at damage control, but he immediately knows that it’s too little, too late.

“Oh, fuck,” Denji breathes. “What did he do?”
