I hate that Finnick had to die because not only did he never get his happy ending that he deserved so much, it meant that Annie never got hers properly either. I love Everlark but it pains me every time I think about them coming home and Annie finding out that Katniss got her partner home safely and they got their happily ever after that she was so close to but will never get with Finnick. Finnick and Annie will forever haunt me.

I'm rereading Mockingjay for the upteenth time and it's just so fascinating how Finnick and Katniss constantly become closer and closer parallels to each other as the series progresses.

At first, Katniss emphasizes how he's the capital's superstar and she assumes that he's a shallow womanizer. But then she sees how much he cares about Mags. She learns that he's madly in love with Annie, like how she loves Peeta (even if she hasn't figured it out yet). Even before she actually meets Finnick there are still parallels, like how a 14 year old boy shouldn't have any better chances at winning the games than a girl from District 12.

They become more similar than ever in Mockingjay when they're both left broken in District 13 while their loved ones are being tortured in the Capital. Both meant to be strong leaders of the rebellion, yet reduced to inconsolable shells of their former selves.

And when their loves return to them? Now it's not just Annie who's gone mad. The setup is a subtle, sick foreshadowing.

I just realized how much I really love Finnick. I mean, don't get me wrong, I loved him since I saw him in catching fire (who wouldn't), but I had to rewatch and, what's even more important, read the whole trilogy, to know how much he means to this series.

So at first he saved her and Peeta not just once in the Quarter Qell. We all know that, but what is worth mentioning is he didn't do this for them, but for the rebel and revolution. She was the Mockingjay, and they knew that without Peeta she won't cooperate. Like all of them did, but I just had to say that.

But then we can see how much they both meant to him. I remember that scene in the book (I'm so mad they didn't get this to the movie), where Katniss goes to 8 and she and Bogs see Finnick by the elevator. He was going crazy because of him not allowing to go with her. I literally cried, that was such a beautiful, heartbreaking scene.

In the books there are so many scenes like that, so I just want to say something, that made Katniss and Finnick so close. I know for sure everyone know that, but I was so focused on Peeta and Katniss' relationship, that I didn't payed attention to the small and big things like that. I just love the thing that both Katniss and Finnick lost the lives of their lifes for a moment. So they understood what the other was going through so good. And I love how they always were there for each other, when one of them had a heartbreaking moment or just needed someone.

What I'm trying to say is Finnick was for Katniss and then for a little while for Peeta like older sibling, someone they needed their whole life, someone who actually cares for them. And I'm so happy that they get people like these in their life.

I know that Finnick and Annie’s son is usually called Finn or something close to that in fanfics but in my head his name should be Dylan.

Dylan being a Welsh name meaning “Son of the sea” or “Born from the ocean”

The name originated from the character in Welsh Mythology “Dylan ail Don” which translates to “Dylan the Second Wave” (I think of this as Annie being the first wave, ‘Cresta’ being derived from ‘Crest’ - the top of a wave and her child, the second)

I also think of the poet Dylan Thomas because a lot of his poems remind me of Finnick and Annie.
