Fire Light

Another creation based from the prompt received from @anthemofthefates <3  Below a cut because it turned into a mini-fic

They weren't looking for a lighter - they'd accompanied their best friend (self-proclaimed; Neb had their own opinions about that friendship) to a store. It was a weird cross between an antiques store and a pawn shop full of hidden treasures.  Neb had lost their friend two minutes in when an elegant silver vase had caught their eye.

The price tag was.  Prohibitive. 

So placing it back down, Neb went to look for their friend; and by the counter where said friend was looking at jewellery was a gorgeous small lighter.  One of the refillable kinds; the metal casing carved with flowing intersecting circles. Neb picked it up, moved by something they couldn't name and purchased it from the owner.

It was only after they were home and alone that they sat down and flicked it open; mostly to see if it needed a refill.

To Neb's surprise a small figure made entirely of flame appeared; it appeared genderless - the orange flames formed the body but flickering blue-purple ones made a sort-of robe for it.  There was no face but Neb recognised it as a fire elemental.  They were shocked; fire elementals were rarely summoned and they themselves tended to call mostly on air-sprites when they required Elemental assistance.  

Still it paid to be polite so Neb bowed their head to the figure and tried to remember how to introduce themselves in the language of the element. (They also quietly thanked their teacher in their head for making sure that they knew all the major Elemental tongues - enough to be conversational if not fluent).

"Hello," they hissed out, "My name is Nebula - please call me Neb.  I am a magic practioner.  May I have something to call you?" "You may call me Enju. You purchased this artifact - thus I will serve you." "If there is a debt I would grant you freedom Enju.  I will have no unwilling helpers; I keep no familiar who does not want to be here." "Is that why you do not have one?"

Neb shrugged "I will not bind, will not coerce. my magic is not the strongest and honestly? I have never found anyone who wants to stay, magician, Elemental or otherwise.  And the air Elements I sometime call have no interest in remaining past their task"

"You are named for the birthplace of stars. I can see the fire-flame of your heart and it shines pure."  the being paused for a moment.  "Ask me to stay?"

Neb thinks on it, absentmindedly running their finger over the designs in the lighter.  They take a breath - and then ask.

nbc hannibal is a romcom purely because the central conflict results from hannibal not understanding his feelings for will and being a total loser about it because he’s never had a friend or been in love before which makes him act so silly and do the most insane things that will interprets being framed for murder as hannibal having something against him (as anyone would), and this series of misunderstandings is not resolved until hannibal’s ex girlfriend and former psychiatrist tells will that hannibal is so in love with him it makes him look stupid. after that will does not hesitate to break hannibal out of jail and douse himself in blood which is this show’s equivalent to the protagonist running to the airport to stop their love interest from leaving the country and marrying someone else before they’ve had the chance to confess that they’ve loved them ever since they’ve known them

Cold Days

It’s been cold, but no sign of snow. Days like these I close my eyes and picture a blazing fire in the middle of my room. The fire would be so big it would light the whole room.

I do prefer fire light over electric though, I always have. Electric lights just seem so harsh, fire light is softer to me and I love watching it dance, flickering and flaring.

Keep him safe. And he had answers. #He could tell Zuko of his past and his memories and shed some light over his strange dreams and his mother's sorrow #He just had to reach Ba Sing Se and find him. Uncle would tell him everything about the monster who had burned her mother's back and spirit #Then Zuko would find him #And no demon other than himself would ever roam the earth again #Change of subject. Am I going to keep dropping the full backstory and plot in the tags? Yes. Yes I will. Sorry guys
