Do you guys think Zuko made Aang’s final air-nomad outfit?
Like canonically out of them, only Katara and Zuko can sew. And I’d imagine Katara was pretty wrapped up after that final battle with not only healing Sokka’s leg, but knowing her- probably healing anyone else she could get her hands on. And she also would have no knowledge of what traditional air nomad formals would look like.
And yeah I guess Aang could have made it himself. But he was only 12 the last time he saw the monks. And I highly doubt they taught him much past how to repair is own clothing.
But who spent years studying the monks and air bending? Who became obsessed with their culture and traditions in an attempt to find the last one? Who searched all the air temples not once but twice, from top to bottom? Who canonically makes his own clothes (i.e. the blue spirit outfit)?
Zuko, always Zuko
I also like to think that the relic/amulet Aang wears in that same scene was also given to him by Zuko. Just bc I’m sure Zuko kept a lot of air nomad things on his ship, and I think either he or his uncle would have salvaged it- probably out of convenience. Zuko as a reminder of his “purpose”, and Iroh as a symbol of hope.

The more i think about it the more the atla timeline seems fucked to me lol
Especially when it comes to Zuko's ancestry. Roku is his great grandfather. That man died 112 years before the show's events where Zuko is 16 turning 17. Ursa is in her late thirties during the events of the search, where Zuko is 19. This means Ursa should be in her early twenties when Zuko is born, 96 years after Roku died. This means she should have been born about 70 years after Roku died. She is Roku's maternal granddaughter, and for this to make sense biologically, let's say her mother had a late baby and was in her fourties when she gave birth to Ursa, meaning Ursa's mother had to be born about thirty years after Roku died. My question here is: how??
Roku was already 70 when he died. I know men can impregnate til quite late in their life but he was loyal to his wife Ta Min, who was around his age so had to be... let's say at least 65? Meaning, thirty years later, she's already 95 when she's supposed to give birth to Ursa's mother Rina, and according to the wiki Roku is alive when Rina is born.
I'm tired it's late i'm in my bed typing this out please someone make sense of this mess

My Interpretation of The Last Agni Kai
(Disclaimer: This isn't critisism of Zuko as much as it a small breakdown of the tragedy of the royal family. This post was also editted and it may not appear in reblogs).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you hear this language? "The showdown that was always meant to be". It's somewhat true, but I'd argue that it's not because of who they are as people. It's because of Ozai.
Tumblr media
It's because they're the golden child and the scapegoat. It's because they've been put against each other by their abuser.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would argue that she is sorry. She does love her brother, and she didn't want it to end this way. Zuko cannot see that, and he isn't sorry.
In The Beach, Zuko burns a picture of them, as a family.
Tumblr media
To him, the picture resresents the perfect past. Before everything went to shit. But he no longer fits there. Even though he's back. He's frustrated, he hates the world, and wants to burn it all.
Especially after he has redeemed himself, he is sure there is nothing for him. His mother is gone, his father is abusive, and Azula: the prodigy, the favored one, who belittled him from the day Ozai began to favor her. She left him in the dust while making it extra dirty. She's barely his sister anymore, she's the untouchable force making his life worse.
In Zuko Alone, Azula practically taunts him over his planned murder.
Tumblr media
This is what Zuko sees. Not a human, not a sister, but a boogeyman. After all, Azula always lies. What he doesn't see is Azula's reaction when she realizes the situation is serious. She'll never let him see that.
Tumblr media
Azula could have burned the bridge all those years ago, when he was bunished. But she didn't. She is the reason he's back home, on that beach. Ozai was her God, she was disciplined to him and only him, even more than herself. And she lied to his face so Zuko could come back home. She's cunning, manipulative and dangerous, but she loved her brother.
Zuko can't see that. Even when "she's slipping", he can't see that. Of course he wouldn't, her love for him is overshadowed by the damage she caused him, and his envy of her. She's above him, the demon haunting him. As Ozai and their history led him to believe. And he sticks to this belief, until it's disproven.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Author's note: Azula's face here makes me want to cry, props to the animator)
She's human, his sister. And she's trurly sorry it had to come to this.
The Last Angi Kai is a tragedy. It's the story of two siblings who grew up in an abusive household, with a dad who played favorites. One made all the wrong choices, while the other could not fathom the other's humanity. They don't reconcile, they put themselves against each other. Because it's the showdown that was always meant to be. And he only recognizes it wasn't, after it's over. Now, he too, is sorry.

I am thinking more about "The Avatar and the Firelord" now because I do think this episode is commonly misunderstood and it works so well as thematically being about generational trauma rather than its common fandom interpretation as a simplistic message about good and evil. The way Sozin and Roku's disastrous friendship is a parallel to Zuko and Aang's. The way Sozin tried to force Roku to join his cause in the war and turned against him when he didn't mirrors so well Zuko asking for Aang's forgiveness because he understands now the destruction that fire can cause, closing that loop. The way that the last drago, at least in in the public eye, died with Roku vs Zuko finding a dragon egg and feeling its warmth in his hands.

If Iroh can come back from laying siege to Ba Sing Sei they'd have to let Azula into the fold by this logic.
Also uh...if Iroh is redeemable does that mean Ozai is by this logic? Because he is probably around the same age Iroh was when Lu Ten got bodied and Iroh pretty switched up by the time we see him in S1. And if he isn't, it's not because of his actions being heinous, but because he's a stubborn bastard.
Honestly I think Iroh just got lucky, if people say the siege of Ba Sing Se like we saw Azula and Ozai's crimes I don't think Iroh would be as liked as he is now.
People love Iroh because he is a noble, caring, and wise mentor for mostly Zuko and occasionally Toph and Aang as well. Three extremely popular and beloved characters. Ozai is hated because he is the current Fire Lord who is causing the continued suffering and torment in the world as an imperialistic dictator emperor along with his vicious child abuse of melting a quarter of Zuko’s face. Azula on the other hand is hated for being Zuko’s rival and tormentor along with being the extremely cunning & intelligence Machiavellian force against the Gaang, Water Tribes, and the Earth Kingdom resistance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
People love the wounded puppy and loving caretaker scenario along with the adopted abused child victim backstory. You are kinda compelled by the narrative to pity, care for, and root for these characters by the narrative and writers. This is why Zuko and Iroh are extremely popular in the first place; due to their sympathetic situation of being the underdogs of the story. Especially when they are exiled and hunted on the run in Book 2.
Tumblr media
The fact that we see Iroh guide and mentor Zuko and the Gaang gives the viewer the impression that Iroh truly is a good man in his heart and can't be the same horrible monster that Ozai and Azula are treated like in the narrative and by fans. This however would be different if the audience and viewers had a glimpse of a young Iroh as the Grand General of the Fire Nation Army and The Dragon of the West! The invader of Ba Sing Sei and who laid seige for 600 days!
Tumblr media
I however think Ozai and Azula are capable of redemption if they want it personally and slowly have their imperialistic mentality and brainwashing corruption challenged with the help of their caring family members. The Legacy of Sozin’s Fire Imperialism and Azulon’s Child Abuse has left deep scars on not just the ATLA world and Fire Nation but on the Fire Nation Royal Family as well!
