A heart-touching reunion moment between our golden boy Glorfindel and his beloved Ecthelion in Glor's dream as my choice to start the year with. The idea is that Glorfindel, after being sent back to Middle Earth, still having a hard time learning how to live again, how to live without his Ecthelion. Especially from the day he found Ecthelion's Flute in the Trolls' cave Gandalf talked about, memories of his beloved began to rise strongly in his mourning heart. But instead of shutting down his mind to stop them, he chose to embrace and cherish all of those memories even though it made his Fëa wither a little bit more every day. In the halls, seeing his golden flower in such self-torment but could not do anything also broke Ecthelion's heart. In the end, maybe Mandos was touched by their love and mercifully gave them a chance to reunite in a dream. And finally, Ecthelion could somehow bring comfort and reassurance to his love with the promise that he will always watch over him,  that one day they will be together again, beyond the sea....
So this piece was inspired by a lovely Glorthelion fic which a dear writer friend of mine wrote me as my birthday present. The fic is actually in vietnamese (not English) and I can only wish I had proper skill and time to translate the full fic😢

We all know Fëanor as “the guy obsessed with his Silmarils” but it’s quite something to remember that when he first discovered Morgoth had ransacked his house, he wasn’t even thinking about how the Silmarils were most likely stolen. He immediately searched the debris not for the jewels, but for his dad.

I wonder when the Noldor looked around at their dwindling numbers and realized that they were dying faster than they could ever keep up with.

I love how much the elves love hidden cities. The host of Valinor only just arrived and two princes of the royal family immediately dissappear to build hidden cities. And a few thousand years later Elrond builts another one. How many people must have been like "Elrond, all the hidden cities we had ended up in total disaster" and Elrond's just like "nope, I want a hidden city". They're like toddlers who can't stop building blanket forts and I think it's hilarious.

this is like the first conversation scene of Dragon Age: Origins, and if we'd paid attention to it, we would have seen it was clear foreshadowing that the elven gods were "wrong" in a way that the Dalish don't expect. I've seen people claim the elven gods plot is some annoying new direction in the story that is made up to throw the series off track from what it's really about. so let me repeat myself
this conversation happens in the first ten minutes of Dragon Age: Origins
also I figured out how to use the Origins Toolset to look at the dialogue trees so you're all in a world of hurt

Banishment
So I was thinking about the Silmarillion and especially everyones favourite problem child Feanor, when I remembered his banishment.
To remind you he is banned from Tirion because he raised his weapon etc. right? And then they proceed to bannish him for 12 years.
Seems reasonable enough! But...
Like...Feanor is an elve. To quote Thranduil: 100 years is a mere moment for an elve. 12 are like what? Maybe five minutes.
Like from a human perspective that surely is quite a punishment but for elves it is like being set into a time-out-chair for like five or ten minutes.
No wonder he didn't change his ways.
