Point Dorian Havilliard for breaking the YA stereotype “male claim” and ACTUALLY letting her go LITERALLY this line: “He would move on. Because he would not be like the ancient kings in the song and keep her for himself. She deserved a loyal, brave knight who saw her for what she was and did not fear her. And he deserved someone who would look at him like that, even if the love wouldn't be the same, even if the girl wouldn't be her. So Dorian closed his eyes, and took another long breath. And when he opened his eyes, he let her go.”

Everyone says Moby Dick is gay but there’s got to be 19th century context. There’s always 19th century context.
“Upon waking next morning about daylight, I found Queequeg’s arm thrown over me in the most loving and affectionate manner you had almost thought I had been his wife…
Indeed, partly lying on [the counter pane] as the arm did when I first woke, I could hardly tell it from the quilt, they so blended their hues together, and it was only by the sense of weight and pressure that I could tell the Queequeg was hugging me.”
I’m like, a week away from reading Moby Dick fanfiction, aren’t I?

I am reading the ACOTAR series for the first time and im like halfway through the first book. And I just have a few thoughts. Tamlin can go sit in a corner and be quiet, i dont like him and i hate that Feyre is all heart eyes. Lucien (?) on the other hand 🫶🏻.
Feyre is also driving me nuts. Like just don’t do stupid stuff??? It’s not that hard! BUT, her doing stupid shit led to us meeting the very handsome stranger who saved her from the creepy dudes, so I hope to see him again yk

So I recently read the entirety of Animorphs for the first time
As a 2000's kid, I was always kind of aware of Animorphs, and I'd read some of the books, but there were like, huge gaps in my knowledge and experience of the series. So it became this sort of, unanswered question in the back of my mind.
I recently realised I could just, read all the books now. So I did. Holy heck. It was like scratching an itch you didn't know you had.
So anyways I'm an Animorphs fan now.

I just finished the first ACOTAR book. Holy shit I have some thoughts.
SPOILERS BELOW
-This feels like someone smashed together Beauty and the Beast and the Hunger Games and it kind of works tbh???
-Some parts aren’t quite believable, like Nesta being a total beeyotch and then having this character arc that we never see. Or that Feyre eventually accepts her new, fancy life without question.
-the almost rapey scene with Feyre and Tamlin…not cool, definitely the worst part of the book.
-The pacing is well done, I thought. Just when I started thinking it was getting too slow and I was getting antsy, WHAM!!!
-Though there’s definitely room for improvement writing wise, ACOTAR sucked me right into its world. I haven’t felt this way since leisure reading in high school, frantically going from page to page, completely oblivious to what’s happening around me in the “real world.” Feyre and Tam dancing at the Midsommer celebration was *everything.* I shall carry on!!
-MAJOR SPOILER ALERT - I accidentally read a spoiler that the endgame ship is Feyre and Rhysand and when I read that I wanted to throw up. Seriously??? He’s creepy af and *also* sexually assaults Feyre. (Not excusing the scene with Tamlin AT ALL, that was wildly unnecessary and I just ☠️☠️ ugh). What confuses me about that is being a creep like that totally fits with Rhys’s character, but not Tam’s. I really wish I could blot out the scene with Tam because I love their relationship besides that weird bullshit. (Unless it comes up again in later books???). What I’m getting at is - somebody please tell me it will eventually make sense because right now I’m devastated by that accidental spoiler.

FINALLY, ive finished 25% of exile, the second book in the kotlc series. here are some thoughts i had :)
tags: @aylin-hijabi, @that-multi-fandom-hijabi, @tastetherainbow290, @nerdy-girl3791 (im tagging everyone who asked to be tagged in my notes for book one, but lmk if you wanna be tagged too / dont wanna be tagged anymore)
first off, why are second books in a series always the ones that take the most time / are harder to start? ig it could be that we've already established the worldbuilding n main characters, but its still that dragging stage between *where you already know mostly everything in the universe* and *where the climax builds up in anticipation of the "final battle" or the beginning of the third act, usually*. nothing to do w the book itself, just an observation
second off, alicorns are so much more important than being just "another species to save", im sure of it. theres wayyy too much of the council getting involved n talk abt how alicorns are sooo important. to anyone whos read percy jackson it kinda reminds me of the ophiortaurus (bessie) from sea of monsters, who seemed to be a recurring animal side character who turned out to have a lot of significance to the very universe they were in. im expecting smth similar, why else would everyone go to such lengths to ensure alicorns dont go extinct? or maybe im overthinking it lmao but what gives it away is the heckses literally tryna kidnap silveny-
speaking of the heckses, who the fuck tries to steal an alicorn. stinas parents are the whiniest bitches ive ever seen, and im a fifteen year old girl. like cmon ive seen some drama queens over the years, but those two- also, fucking stina. i mentioned before that i hope to see some character development w her, so shes not just the boring one-dimensional mean girl thats prevalent in literally every piece of media thats come out since mean girls w regina george. clearly not yet, tho, but im waiting on it (if it does not happen i will be majorly disappointed)
also, delving into theories now. its kinda far-fetched, but, was brant w the black swan ? i mean, it would add up pretty decently. it would explain why his guilt for jolies death runs so deeply (since grady rlly rlly seems to believe that the black swan killed her) because he would be with the literal organization that killed her. it would also explain reeeeaaaaalllllyyyy well why he recognized sophie. the fact that he knew her was wayy too emphasized to mean nothing. idk JUST A THEORY, its not based off of anything other than it would fit nicely w everything else.
but also if grady is so adamant that it was the black swan, and (hypothetically) brant is w the black swan, then would it be improbable to assume that he killed her? which would explain the guilt even MORE. but then again, he does seem to love her, so that last part is added very tentatively. (maybe he killed her by accident... but then would the note to grady three days before her death just be a coincidence? im sure that has some deeper meaning.)
maybe it wasnt the black swan who sent those notes to grady...
to end on a funnier note: alicorn poop. sophie faceplanted into alicorn poop. it happens to all main characters, it always has to be someone walking in at the worst moment. i thought id be the vackers w keefe who show up n embarass her, but who better than the council to get humiliated in front of ? i dont hate sophie i just laugh at her pain
i think thats all for the 25% mark, im gonna keep reading today. im gonna go to my grandmas house so maybe i can get a couple hundred pages in !!!

Reading Crown of Midnight:
(No spoilers please) Thoughts & Theories as of right now (starting Chapter 24):
— Okay this is just me thinking out loud (or I guess typing lol) but I have a new theory with 0 proof but I like guessing sometimes —
Aedion Ashryver was just introduced. We’ve (gonna use plurals lol) been wondering who is giving the king all this “info” on rebels (as it isn’t Chaol THE CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD) and someone is “advising” / giving him names for Celaena to “dispatch”. … The book has been dropping hints, telling us to look for that character (as Celaena does). And suddenly after those hints, along with another Aelin mention, a new character is thrown into the mix; a character that somehow survived the fall of Terrasen; begging the question of how. They could very easily be a traitor (hence the survival) & rebel destruction, OR an inside man for the rebels all along.🤔
NOW (without spoilers cause I’m trying not to ruin this for myself) I don’t know who Aelin is. Not officially, all I know is I’m pretty sure it’s Celaena… cause I unfortunately had this series HEAVILY in my feed prior to reading & pretty much every fan art that looks like Celaena is named Aelin… so I’m going to guess it’s her (whether she knows it or not)… though I’m trying not to think of it cause I’m guessing it’s a big plot. … With that said I mention it as it’s another reason why I think if Aedion was THAT character it would move that plot along too… possibly in helping her claim her new name… or adding some danger if he was bad & knew Aelin was alive (if she is Aelin to begin with). P.S. don’t confirm this, but if I’m right then the entire Dorian having met Aelin as a wild child & the whole “if Aelin had survived she might’ve been my bride” line becomes a thousand times more hilarious & heartbreaking.😅😅
P.S. P.S. why is there no ship content for Chaol and Celaena??? I try to avoid looking things up but sometimes I want inspo, fan art, aesthetics & right now I love them so much🥹… and I am so scared, something must go horribly wrong for there to be nothing (no content), and I may regret these posts of loving them but I want THEM to be ENDGAME😩… maybe I’ll get lucky and he has another name too and that’s why🤞… UGH book problems I JUST LOVE THEM TOO MUCH!!! And I know Sarah J. Maas writing, she’s gonna twist the plot and destroy me😂

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…
‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.
idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.
