This Friday Molly got to meet a robot! The local junior high robotics team dedicated some time to come to the nursing home where I work so the patients could see their robot and learn about how it works! Me and my coworkers agreed it was a great opportunity for Molly to learn how to function around unexpected things, she did VERY well considering you don't see robots everyday. The team was nice enough to let me get a photo of the bot with Molly, and she thoroughly enjoyed watching it wander around the floor (I let her watch the bot for awhile since it was a new experience and expecting her to focus right away was just completely unrealistic). She was able to effectively task and listen to commands even while watching her environment which is exactly what I hoped for. Great job Molly!

One team put out period product buckets in EVERY bathroom. This is epic (their actions have warmed my heart deeply)

Ayo if you’re on a first robotics team reblog with the goofy stuff your team gets up to

On my team we’ve got:

- Cheddar, the long plushie cat who comes to every competition with us and is basically our mascot at this point

- that time we flung people down the halls of the school on those little wheely squares for half an hour and nearly hit two mentors

- assigned numbers for anyone named Ethan because we had six of them last year

- the taco water incident

- my long furby occasionally crashing robotics nights

- so many frogs oh lord

- the cardboard cutout of the lead teacher that we hail as god (the teacher acts like he hates the thing but leaves it in the manufacturing shop year round and dresses it up for Christmas. He will not let us put it in the team picture though)

Did your team ever have ridiculous superstitions/cults/other very ridiculous behavior? (Asking because my friend's robotics team has a borderline cult around a skeleton and "orbs")

During my time on the team, not really, other than needing to eat gummy worms during the semi-finals if we made it. everytime we came close to establishing a religious cult like behavior the item of worship mysteriously disappeared

that being said our team did have what we referred to as The Bible in a thick ass 10+ year old paper-binder

Judging and inspecting for the state high school and junior high robotics competition. Great to see the team that I started 12+ years ago is still going strong (although they've changed their name from the amazing "Space Monkeys" to "Dogbyte" - You win some, you lose some).

50+ teams in this tournament, great turn out, some incredible design and engineering notebooks, really cool designs (including a drive train I've never seen built before.
