or: i know you better than that.
gn!reader, warnings for major (offscreen) character death as part of the setup, loss of a loved one, extended depictions of grief, implied depersonalisation, delusion but it’s sort of true?, probably one of the most painful things i’ve ever written. hold on - how has this ended up being my contribution to hot boi summer?? takes place post-inversion, based on this post that i made some time ago - you are welcome to check that post out first so you can get the premise if you like! inspired by loretta by the topline addicts. lots of love to the discord girlies and my wonderful gorgeous proofreader @zozo-01, queen of the slick tyre. yes, the binary means something. gone fishing in the river, and you’ll never guess who i saw floating by. gavin counting down the days in just over 2700 words.

Even if it only lasts a day. Or a month, or a year. I want us free of this place.
He’s so hungry.
It’s impossible to tell what time it is, only that it must be mid-morning by now. The sunlight, bright and soft and floaty, streaming through the curtains and shining a warm stripe across the duvet. It’s Saturday. No noise from anywhere else in the apartment, and he’s the only one in the bed.
Yes, that’s it. Mid-morning on a lovely, sunny Saturday.
God, it would be so, so nice to just stay in bed. To just lie here and watch the light move across the wall all day, to curl up under the covers and snooze the day away until he doesn’t have to think at all. To let the world go by without him, to let the time slip away, wash over his ageless face like water over stone. Quiet and painless and the beginning of the end.
He can’t, though.
There’s something he has to do.
He gets dressed in a haze, eyes shut tight, refusing to look down even for a second. A long time ago, he’d have dressed himself with magic, but he’s out of the habit now. Real clothes for a real body, and he’s real, he’s real, he’s real. What’s he wearing? He doesn’t know, but it feels like - it’s just like - it reminds him-
It doesn’t remind him of anything. If he wrenches all of the doors in the apartment open with magic and stalks out of the bedroom half-phased because he can’t face the feeling of touching anything physical right now, then that’s his business.
He thinks about breakfast, and immediately regrets it. Hungry, so hungry - but he couldn’t possibly face eating anything. It would turn his stomach for sure, eating without you. The horrible burning twists and growls inside him, but he grits his teeth and forces it down. It won’t be a problem for too much longer.
There’s no time. He’s got all day.
The walk is long, and that’s good. What’s not so good is the sun in his eyes and the sticky, humid air on his skin, but it’s not like he can do anything about that. One foot after the other, steps numb and quiet on the baking pavement. People pass him as he walks, but he doesn’t really notice them. He doesn’t really notice much, anymore - just a vague fog of awareness that hangs around his body and follows him like a curse.
It would be so much easier, if he didn’t have to know anything. Hollow bones, like a bird. He feels too much, too deeply - there’s not room, to have to know things as well. Would it be okay, if he could just be empty for a little while?
The ache soaks through the soles of his feet, spiralling up through his ankles, his calves, his knees. It’s nothing new. He’s not rifted for weeks now, not even once. A long, long walk, and late morning turns into early afternoon. He won’t leave this plane again, not even for a second.
The road bends around to the left. The wall on that side is taller than him, though maybe not older - the tops of the trees inside riffle gently in the breeze, barely visible over the top of the wall. He’s almost there.
Rounding the corner, and a deep, deep breath. He looks down at his hand, and it’s full. Petals burst into existence, delicate flowers unfurling atop long, skinny stems. Pink, always pink, never white. He doesn’t cry.
DAHLIA CEMETERY & MEMORIAL GARDENS.
He knows exactly where to go.
Gravel crunches underfoot, before it turns to grass as he turns off the central path. The last time he was here was just after it happened. A cold, miserable January day, looking but not seeing, hearing but not listening. Wanting to be alone, and knowing it was true. He’s always looked good in black. Huxley’s hand on his arm, gently pulling him away as the rain began to fall.
He’s not seen them since. He doesn’t know how they’re coping, if they’re coping. Maybe it would be worse if they were. There’s no such thing as coping, when it comes to this.
Mindlessly, he’s aware of the other people here. There’s only a few, dotted around occasionally, but he doesn’t pay them any mind. He can’t even feel if they’re empowered or not, and he doesn’t try to. The thrum of a human’s Core, threads singing with silent existence - he thinks he’d fall apart, right here on the grass, if he let himself feel it.
Something collapses in his chest, tumbling down into the groaning chasm that fills him now. This place, this place. A happy, golden day, not a cloud in the sky as he walks on through the trees and the grass and the graves, and deep inside the rage begins to grow.
Quicker and quicker, left and right and left behind. How dare it be sunny, today of all days - how dare the sky be blue and the earth still turn and gravity pull him down. Don’t they know? Don’t they care? Doesn’t it mean something, anything at all, that he’s doing this - that he’s here, fingers curled tight around a fistful of flowers, come to do the one thing he should never have t-
Honey, I’m home.
There you are.
Here, at last.
Weakly, he smiles, though the world is a little blurrier than it was before, and hides the flowers behind his back. Did you miss me, my love?
Leaves rustle in the breeze. The world gets very, very slightly colder.
Because I missed you. Very much.
He leans in, conspiratorial, whispering like somebody might hear him.
I have a surprise for you.
When nothing happens, he rolls his eyes and sighs, long-suffering as ever. You have to close your eyes, you know. Otherwise, it’s not a surprise.
A thin, delicate bank of clouds, so faint you might not even notice it was there, drifts slowly across the sky. The softest shadow, dappling the trees.
Ready? He pauses for dramatic effect, holding his breath like the secret might spill out of him at any moment, before giving in and presenting the flowers with a flourish. I know you said you like these ones.
It’s true, you had. He doesn’t remember when, and he doesn’t remember why, but he knows it to be true all the same.
I’ll just put them here for you.
Carefully, he bends down and lays the flowers gently against the cold stone. They look even brighter than they did before.
Don’t you think they’re pretty?
Crumbling, crunching, falling away. Long fingers jammed behind aching teeth, prising open the void.
He nods to himself, acquiescing. You’re right. Not as pretty as you.
There’s nobody in sight. The fizzing drone of a champagne headache. It should be raining.
Are you there, my love?
The stone that bears your name does not reply.
Say it. He smiles again, a little more forced this time, and swallows. Say you’re there.
The breeze is getting stronger. It’s alright, baby. You can tell me.
Beneath his feet, the earth trembles - or maybe that’s just him, tumbling, crashing, hitting the ground. His hands shake as they press into the dirt, and belatedly he realises he’s going to be covered in grass stains when he gets up.
Just tell me. Tell me you’re here.
There’s no such thing as covert, not now. He’s got nothing left to hide. The smooth slide of cloaking magic falling away, horns smooth and shiny in the afternoon sun.
I don’t know how this goes, without you. Dirt under his claws, and a thousand flowers begin to bloom. Filling his hands, his arms, his mind, until he’s overflowing - pink on pink on pink, never white, and he doesn’t realise he’s sobbing until it’s already too late to stop. I don’t know - I don’t - can’t-
There aren’t words, for this. It’s not possible.
Power, sheer and raw and frightening, seethes in his chest. It starts slow, or maybe fast, until it’s bubbling in his not-really blood, curling through his not-really bones. Curse this body, curse this earth, curse this whole fucking plane that thought it could give you to him, that thought it could take you away just as easily.
He won’t let it happen. Some words can’t be unsaid, some bells can’t be unrung.
Hotter and hotter, writhing through what you’d always insisted was a soul. A body celestial, voice breaking and skin cracking and turned inside out with the terrible, savage love of you.
The cosmic coincidence of your existence, the fact that he - that he, of all the demons and humans and creatures that might have ever lived or breathed or been, should have been the one you chose. To know you, hold you, love you. He was made for this, made for you - what sort of wicked world is it, that denies him the only destiny he’s ever wanted? It’s wrong, it’s wrong, it’s wrong.
There’s no world in which you don’t exist. He won’t accept it. He won’t allow it. You can’t just be… gone.
I love you, deviant.
Somehow, it’s very, very quiet.
Clouds start to gather overhead, and the city stares up at the sky in confusion as a lovely, sunny Saturday turns to ash. Howling, snarling wind tears through the streets - for a hundred miles around, windows slam shut and trees battle to stay standing. The sky gets lower and lower, darker and darker.
Together, or not at all.
Cold and still, cracking open, peeling open, swallowed by the earth that you had the curse of being born to. Marble under moonlight, half-melted in the River. Why couldn’t you have been like him? Who let you be made so awfully, horribly human? The one person he’d ever love, cursed to the inescapable fate that plagues your body, your species, your whole fucking planet - the one, single curse that no magic he could ever hope to know could possibly break.
Flowers on a grave he never should have seen, tears and flowers and shaking hands for a person who should never have had to die. No justice in this world, no rest for the wicked and he must be really, truly monstrous by now. He can’t keep it in, can’t contain it - all of Elegy hears his grief as he screams to the empty sky and soon Aria does too, muffled by the Meridian as the world casts its eyes to the dirt and listens.
I love you, deviant.
Skimming stones and the burning of a heart that doesn’t need to beat. Do all flowers turn to face the sun? Power, raw and bitter and grieving, the earth shaking, the shadows twisting. The pressure builds and builds, smashed flat against the surface of the sky, narrowing and narrowing until it’s needle-sharp and spiteful. One way or another, this will be the end of it all.
Hot and cold and death electric. Something’s got to give.
You and I, away from the trappings of this place, for however long or short that can last.
The sky splits, and then something else does too - a fault line in the fabric of reality, a single splinter that cracks the mirror wide. A breath taken, baton waiting for the off-beat. A rest in the Spellsong. It’s over. It’s just begun.
See you around, voyeur.
The world spins, or maybe his mind spins, or maybe it’s just a scream, a scream, sealed off from the stars and utterly alone, a simple, wonderful scream that if you heard it, you could almost imagine the ache in your - wait, why is that so familiar? - because the page turns and the bar ends and the penny drops and an incubus lives and dies and lives again as the world

There we go.
It’s been a while.
He’s not really sure how to describe it, but…
Hello. It’s a pleasure to finally speak to you. Mmhmm. You. Not some listener character. You. On the other side of the screen. Hi. How are you?
…he’s different, now.
It was fast and slow and neverending. One man, one lonely, desperate man - who ran from home when it bled him bitter, who crossed the stars for a place to stay. A whole life that happened all at once, just as it never happened at all. A million lives, rushing past him, washing over him, soaking into him.
It’s strange. This place - it feels familiar, but he can’t quite figure out why. The space between, slipping through the cracks of the world he knew. Somehow, he’s on the other side. Or the same side. Or somewhere in between. It’s difficult to tell.
There’s one thing that’s very easy to know, though.
I don’t actually care. I’m not here for you.
Wherever he is now, it makes him cruel. Or maybe it’s just this life that makes him so - the vicious fate that was given to you, that makes him so very vicious as he tries to free you from it. Whatever it takes, whatever the cost.
He’s in control. You’ll never die again.
All sorts of possibilities, all sorts of things to try. He’ll have to test the limits of this new power, see what he can do now that he’s on the outside of it all. How’s he going to do it?
Conventional means, perhaps. The sweet kiss of sharp fangs, burning blood filling your throat as you offer your wrist willingly. Or maybe something different? Something new, something that’s never been done before. A’Xerahn rages in his mind at the sight of a pair of horns, the most beautiful he’s ever seen, sculpted and shaped and spiralling from your skull as if they’d always been there.
(He’d give you whichever kind you wanted, you know. The rest of your form, you’d make as you pleased - but those would always be his gift to you. The one thing a demon cannot change. What might you ask for? It’s not like he could ever resist you. And maybe it’s selfish, but he can’t help but hope you’d want to look like him, that you’d do him that unimaginable honour. Meant to be, remade to be. The two of you, a matched set in every way.)
Perhaps the opposite. He’s always wondered what it would have been like. How he’d be different. Would his human path have crossed with yours? Would you have loved him, if he’d been of your world, or you of his? Or maybe it doesn’t matter, maybe it never mattered at all - because you love him the way he loves you, a grasping, stretching, strangling need that tears through every layer of reality to bring him to you.
Aria looks so beautiful, from here. Elegy, too, and the thin space in between. The River stretches wide in the distance, and he smiles at the sight of black water rushing upstream.
It’s time to put things right.
He’s had a lot of names, over the years. What’s one more? It wouldn’t be right to use his astral name for this. He’s something else, now. Not the name you called him by, either. That one’s just for you. It wouldn’t do, to give that name to something else, to this task he’s set himself upon. Something else. Something different.
Somewhere, on the other side of the mirror, on the inside of the universe, a door opens in a convenience store.
Can I help you?
I’m Echo. And you’re going to be my plaything.

WIP Wednesday - Dieter x F!Reader x Javi G
18+; MDNI
Tumblr media
I hope to have this one shot out before the end of the week, we will see how much overtime I need to do at work. (Might just tell them to fuck off cause I need to write depraved smut about two handsome boys but I don't think they would understand)
Setup: Dieter & Javier Gutierrez are working on an upcoming project together and, to help with their creative process, they are spending more time together. This results in a dinner with the three of you, something you greatly anticipate because Javi Gutierrez is your 'hall pass'. Takes place a few months after the release of the documentary.
Tags: Sober Dieter, Dieter still being chaotic, Dieter liking to watch, Javi being soft and seduced, Reader being a switch, mention of Dieter touching himself, Reader & Dieter in established relationship
A/N: First time writing Javi, second time writing Dieter. Any feedback you wonderful people have is greatly appreciated as I continue to lead myself into the deep plunge that is Mr. Pascal's rich universe of diverse and ridiculously irresistible characters
Immediately you and Javier dive into a fast paced conversation, Spanish rolling off your tongue as if it was your native language, Javi’s eyes widening as he engaged with you, Deiter immediately drumming his fingers against the table.
He managed to hold in his words a lot longer than you thought he would, given how impatient he normally is.
“I don’t fuckin’ speak that,” Dieter interjected, Javi’s eyes immediately darting to look at him as he leaned back into his chair—you hadn’t noticed how close you both had leaned into each other. With a smirk, you gracefully turned to look at Dieter.
“I would think for a piece like this, you would learn his language.” You pouted to him playfully, but something in the base of your belly screamed at how you would love to hear that beautiful language come out of that man while he had you under him—all the degrading and dirty ways he would speak to you. Javi enthusiastically agreed with a solid and excited ‘Yes!’, regarding Deiter learning Spanish, but you and him weren’t looking at Javi.
You watched as Dieter initially rejected the idea almost immediately, knowing he would have to put a substantial amount of effort into something that was for a single role. It had been a part of his re-instated values for himself when returning to acting while ensuring his sobriety. He wasn’t going to deep dive into the method, and he wasn’t going to get lost in it…he needed to always want to be grounded within himself—or within you.
But as you just watched him, line after line of what you wanted to hear Dieter say passing from one ear to another, you felt your body fill with an insatiable lust for something you could not have but desperately wanted. It was the subconscious bite of your lower lip that made Dieter shift his expression, suddenly realizing that there was a reason to learn such a thing beyond a single role, even if he didn’t know exactly what it was.
“What do I get out of it?” He asked you, his voice lower than his usual tone, matching the darkening behind his gaze, the flare of his nostrils as a corner of his mouth twitched upwards. You smiled, feeling like you had managed to lure Dieter and catch him with your request, now you just had to reel him in.
Slowly you leaned forward, lifting your body from your seat so that the tips of your noses were almost touching. While Dieter was fully focused on you, the world around you two most definitely melding away in his mind, you were very mindful of Javi’s gaze on you both and you couldn’t help but wish to catch two fish with one net.
“You show me what you do with that mouth,” you whispered, your finger raising to run over Dieter’s cracked lips as your eyes followed, before snapping your gaze back to meet his, “and I promise to show you something new I can do with mine.” You saw the relaxation within Dieter’s gaze, a momentary release from the tension you knew was building within his body while also being satisfied with your terms. You knew it drove him wild when you would act forwardly in any public setting, especially one as intimate as this, and his gaze held a promise he would later show you how satisfied your words left him feeling.
“Wow!” Javi exhaled the word like it was his last, exasperated, breath and it reminded you and Dieter to pay attention to the other member of this dinner party. You turned to apologize, wanting to be polite yet desperate to know if you had caught two fish with your little display, and as you saw Javi watch you with childish awe and excitement, you knew it had worked.
His eyes washed over your body as his eyebrows fell into rest as he continued to soak you up, a soft and shy smile twitching across his lips before he looked at Dieter.
“I now understand, my friend, what you meant when we first met.”
All Dieter did was provide a shrug full of self-satisfied pride as you rested back into your chair, brazenly crossing your legs in a way that let both men have a peek at what lay beneath your silken dress—nothing but your beautiful, delicious, soaked and well fucked, pussy.
They both could not help but look, Dieter naturally adding flares and dramatics to his motions, while Javi briefly unabashedly stared before locking eyes with you and giving a few soft, short, and shy nods before quickly casting his gaze to the ground.
It brought a satisfied and endearing smile to your lips as you reached out a hand to rest it on top of Javi’s, giving it a small squeeze of reassurance. It felt impossible how soft his sun-kissed skin was, how warm his hands felt under yours—it all matched his aura and demeanour.
Truly, the man was more enamouring than you could have ever imagined and you could tell the gesture was something he greatly appreciated and responded to based on how lost and lonely he looked when you withdrew your hand, turning your gaze back to Dieter who seemed to be watching the same thing.
“You saying sweet things about me, love?” You ask with a false sense of surprise, Dieter softly laughing before gesturing an open hand towards Javi.
“You wanna tell her what I said?” He asked, pitching his chin to his chest to be able to look at the man above his sunglasses. The posture alone always made your nostrils flare to allow you a deep enough breath to still your heart from beating faster, but it was how you saw Javi squirm at the question that made your thighs clench and pussy quake.
His eyes darted to you as you leaned towards him, purposefully positioning yourself so your plump breasts were pushed up and within anyone’s vision if they were to look at your face. You watched as his throat slowly clenched as he strained to swallow, the tight shirt he wore giving away to the short and shallow breaths he was allowing himself as he gained the faintest red hue to his complexion before he looked back at Dieter as if to clarify if he should.
Your eyes did not leave Javi, so you had no idea what Dieter did, but you assumed it was a gesture or mouthed words, for Javi hesitantly looked back at you bearing a grave expression as if he was about to tell you one of your loved ones had passed away. It swirled a storm in your stomach to see innocent Javi torture himself over whatever Dieter told him about you, which would have been nowhere near the worst and most degrading things he has said about you or to you. Yet you could see it tear the sweet man apart inside, afraid to hurt or offend while what his vision soaked in evoked an opposite desire.
You slowly reached out and placed your hand on his.
“Whisper it to me in Spanish, Javi.” You softly asked of him, your gaze not leaving his while giving him your best ‘fuck me’ eyes. You could see it twist him on the inside before giving a few short, shallow, nods of his head.
“Now I really understand what you meant.” He spoke as if out of breath, his chest rising and falling like he had just run a marathon, yet he still did not repeat the things Dieter said.
“You still haven’t told me what sweet praises Dieter said about me…” You whispered this time as you dragged your index finger over his hand and up his arm, lightly pressing your pointed nail into his skin. Suddenly Javi grabbed your hands and cradled them within his, pulling you from how you had yourself positioned so that he could look at you directly with nothing but an earnest and soft expression of admiration.
“Encantadora...” He whispered to you, but you knew that wasn’t what Dieter had told him because, among the many things he called you that you loved to hear, he would have never described you as ‘enchanting’. “He said you are like a pheromone, irresistibly beautiful and bright, a star from the sky among the mortal man.” Javi continued to whisper to you words you knew definitely would not have come from Dieter’s lips, and the realization of that evaporated your bravado as you suddenly became soft and entranced under Javi’s gaze and praises.
Briefly, the sound of Dieter’s sarcastic, amused, sharp laugh pulled you from Javi, but he squeezed your hands while his face tracked yours as it moved, his eyes always pinned to yours, a soft smile on his delicious lips.
“I did not think a person like that could exist but I finally understand why he made such claims...” Javi admitted, raising a hand briefly to kindly and gratefully gesture towards Dieter before turning his attention back to you. “Look at you, Hermosa, in all of your glory.” He whispered his praise as he continued to acknowledge you with unimaginable awe and disbelief.
The words and expressions were too much, causing you to widely smile and uncharacteristically pull your hand away to cover your face, overwhelmed and extremely bashful from all of his compliments. Silence lingered for a moment, Javi’s hands still gripping your single one, his thumbs delicately drawing circles over the back of it and you only blushed harder.
“No…shit!” Dieter exclaimed with a small slam of the table, before realising his antics and apologizing to the others around them. He leaned into the table, you barely seeing him as you continued to cover your face and look down, trying to search and sense what was going on in your body and mind. “This needs to fucking happen.” He demanded, stabbing his finger into the table with an intense amount of purpose. You felt Javi release your hand and sit back, worried you may have done something wrong and feeling your own sadness at the loss of his touch, you quickly glanced at him only to see he was confused.
But you knew what Dieter was referring to.
“I do not understand, Mr. Bravo, we already agreed to the movie?” He asked as his face pinched into an adorable expression of innocent confusion, as if he had completely forgotten where you and he had been just a moment ago, what sparks were erupting between you two, the carnal desires stoked from your locked eyes. Dieter just grunted, seemingly annoyed with the sweet man’s innocent mind.
“Can’t believe you guys are—Javi, she wants you to fuck her.” He bluntly stated and you watched as Javi’s eyes widened beyond their natural stretch at Dieter and his claim before looking at you. “Love, Javi obviously wants to fuck you…who wouldn’t?” He added the question with a hand lovingly and hungrily running down your back. “And now, I need to fuckin’ see it happen. So…cheque? Cheque, please!”
Dieter looked around the room to see many eyes were now on the three of you after his loud proclamations on how Javi and you wanted to have sex and how Deiter greatly wanted to watch.
“Yeah, yeah.” He groaned while waving a dismissing hand towards a table of four seniors who looked at him with complete disgust. “We’re almost out of here, we just need our CHEQUE! PLEASE!” Dieter bellowed and you had to hide your grin, knowing his fury simply came from his pent-up sexual excitement and tension.
To see you openly flirt with another man, to see you position yourself for him, for that man to show interest in you…that was all a part of the normal fun and games. What seemed to have sent Dieter over the edge into this lustful rage was seeing how Javi’s words affected you in a way his never had.
Thankfully you knew it wasn’t jealousy that fueled his immediate requirement to depart, to see you fucked by his Spanish doppelganger, but was due to the thrill, the adrenaline, along with a growing, desperate, need to see it happen.
He was about to open his mouth to yell again when a waiter ran to his side with the bill. Dieter put his card down on the tray, immediately groaning when the waiter fumbled at the machine.
“Charge whatever, I don’t care. Comp everyone who I fucking offended, how’s that?” He stressed his last word as if taunting the four seniors, ensuring to look directly at the women who still regarded him with sheer horror while the men shrugged as if to say they couldn’t argue with the free meal. “Here’s my signature…” he grabbed the pen from the waiter’s jacket as Javi got up to pull out your seat to gracefully help you up. “Charge whatever the fuck you want, tip generously, whatever, but don’t fuck me over.” He glanced at the shaking waiter, who looked no more than twenty, over his sunglasses before squinting at his name tag. “Kevin, is it?” He paused long enough for the kid to nod. “Don’t fuck me, Kevin!” Deiter stressed before walking away. “I’ll be back tomorrow for my card and receipt.”
And with that, the three of you left to return to the apartment you and Dieter shared. Despite the short walk it was, Dieter had a car called for you all, only so he could sit and watch as Javi couldn’t keep his hands and lips off of you, and Dieter couldn’t keep his hands off his hard and exposed cock.

i promised myself that i would not get into this topic ever again bc i have said everything there is to be said but now i have new thoughts so excuse me while i go fuck it
if they really wanted to portray yang as having raised ruby completely on her own while tai was doing fuck all, they've had all the chances, both big and small, to fully commit to it leaving behind no doubts in at least V4, V9, and even V2, but they haven't. they've literally had the rod, line, reel, hook & bait and a lake full of hungry fishes ready to feast all ready to go at moments notice, but the bait never makes it into the water. all the setup is there but there's no commitment, if anything, they're going the opposite way by not delivering after all the setups.
yang wanting to be treated like an adult, ruby's outburst, heck, even tai sending zwei to the girls at beacon were there for the taking to subtly or not so subtly make it clear that yang had to raise ruby on her own but none went there, so either the writers are incompetent at telling their own story, or it's not the story they're trying to tell. and frankly, i'm going for the latter considering they haven't exactly been subtle about other matters similar to this.
fuck it moment over lol

A Review of my time in Skyrim's Prisons (Featuring some followers): Riften Jail
Part 5 of my Skyrim Prison Review series. This chapter finally breaks the "every interior looks the damn same" chain by looking at Riften, Skyrim's capital of corruption, inequality and... fishing. I think that last one might be important.
Tumblr media
Since my last review the inner circle has grown a few notches. Joining me this time is Dunmer heartthrob Teldryn Sero, Whiterun's finest donkey Lydia, Jordan the peak Riekling specimen and the returning Inigo and Sofia. Actually getting arrested and put into the cell here proved surprisingly difficult. We first tried punching one of the homeless people on the streets unprompted but nobody batted an eye when we did. Then I tried stealing food from a nearby cart but again, nothing. So for the third attempt I thought of a real humdinger. I went into the orphanage and suplexed the old lady running it so hard that her spine broke and she died instantly. The children in the orphanage were naturally very happy and- wait, happy!? I was shocked to find them all celebrating her death! I mean she was called Grelod the Kind for Diagna's sake! I swear, kids these days are so ungrateful! Nobody even called the guards! I murdered an innocent old lady without consequence and I have no idea why. In the end we had to literally beat a guard to death to finally get in enough trouble to warrant an arrest. So much hassle, and for what? Well let's see...
Riften's cell is oddly nice, with a full bed provided in each cell as well as a desk, lighting setup and chairs (no rug though, unfortunately). It was also quite cramped inside the cell with all us inside of it due to the relatively small floor size. Had we all not decided to investigate as a group this would've likely been far more adequate of a cell. There are even multiple other cells in this jail, so it's clearly built for capacity (Maven has a lot of enemies it would seem).
Tumblr media
Attached to the back wall was a pull ring. The ring in question somewhat blended in with the dark colouration of the walls and pulling on it opened a secret entrance and revealed a secret tunnel behind the prison walls. The actual outline for the secret entrance was quite clearly visible so identifying it as a possible escape route was easy. Normally in this situation I'd leap at the opportunity to criticise the laziness of the guards in not being able to identify the obvious avenue for escape, likely by making some joke about them being more blind than a Falmer or the like, but given the very obvious and deep-rooted corruption in Riften hold (which on fear of my life I know nothing about), it's more likely the guards know about it but are paid to turn a falmer's eye. This isn't as bad as the guards being incompetent at their jobs. It's worse. It shows just how tarnished the internal systems of this city are and is beyond shameful.
Tumblr media
Further down the path we were greeted by... a bathing spot? Excess water flow point? Fishing training spot? Given the large Riften fishing scene I'm inclined to assume it's the latter (See? Told you the fishing would be important!). Unfortunately when we arrived there were no fish in the water or indeed fishers-in-training doing their practice reels. Perhaps they were taking the day off?
Tumblr media
The path continued downward to eventually lead to a sewer grate (very original, Riften. Veeeeerrrry original). We sent Jordan ahead first to ensure the path ahead wasn't too mucky and/or filled with waste. He (She? It?) was hesitant at first but a quick reminder of her (His? Its?) position in our tribe proved convincing enough to put its (I'm going with its) mind at ease.
Tumblr media
We were dropped out of the grate into the depths of Lake Honrich. Hardly the most glamourous escape but it sufficed. Inigo wasn't particularly happy getting his fur so wet but the damage had already been dealt. We took this opportunity to return to the jail normally using guard armour and a few brilliant false moustaches as disguises to look at the space outside the cells.
Tumblr media
As previously mentioned, there are a lot of cells in this jail, significantly more than most and the building is well-designed to accommodate these large cells. Though if the rather pompous-looking man in the top left corner is any indication some of the more well-off prisoners can quite easily obtain certain luxuries for their cell. It's also worth noting that (while not pictured above because I forgot to take a visual illustration of it at the time) the prisoner belonging chest is in a wholly separate room in the jail, multiple rooms apart from where the cells are located so no optimistic burglar is picking their cell lock, breaking into the belongings chest and retrieving their beloved Nightingale Boots easily, that's for sure!
Overall... wow. This jail is something else. Much like Riften itself it's simultaneously a brilliant location that operates highly efficently or the biggest sack of Chaurus droppings I've ever encountered. Much of it's defining strengths only exist due to deep seated corruption and the influence of one particularly angry middle-aged woman making them so (which again, I reiterate, I know *nothing* about). As such I can't in good faith call Riften Jail an adequate prison.
Final score: Three Nightingale Boots out of Ten Nightingale Boots
Thank you for reading this review. Next time we go slightly more formal and investigate Imperial HQ, Solitude and the Castle Dour Dungeons

I have twenty seven more fish and aberrations to catch before I've got them all
mostly from the stellar basin, which I found the most beautiful and the scariest at the same time, but I also have a ton to get from the open ocean
which is BAD!!! there's a FUCKING BEAST there!!
a reel big scary motherfucker!!! 😭
Tumblr media
on the bright side, I know what depths they're all at. ...not that I need to, I guess? knowing how many crabs there are is great and all, very helpful thank you, but my setup can fish in every location without having to swap equipment

I went to the light room with my wire structures and was shown how to use the light projector.
I learned it projects the light from a box onto the wall in front along with anything else placed on top of the box.
I began experimenting with a variety of coloured filters and translucent plastic with interesting patterns, moving them in different positions and photographing them as I went along with my wire pieces... I came out with some really striking colours and pictures!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was then helped to erect a stand and suspended my wire drawings from the pole with fishing line and then hung filters too!
Tumblr media
I love the way this picture came out! I think it gives a really cinematic look, as if it were an old film reel being projected…
Tumblr media
I asked my friend to model for me behind my setup and these were my favorite pictures to come from this session! They look like something to come from a magazine…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After this I found some fake grass which I thought would be a great aesthetic base for my artificial flower and leaves.
I threaded the wire through the bottom of the grass so they stood themselves and photographed them like this.
I then placed it on top of the light box and as the light shone through, it was brought to life!
Tumblr media
I love these images, I think they’re a great contradiction to my original pictures of the real leaves on the moss!
Tumblr media
I was interested by the overlapping shadows of the wire in the projections, so I taped a sheet to the wall and began tracing the shadows with charcoal… I placed a bubbly sheet of plastic over the light source and it created great rainbow effects.
Tumblr media
I liked the outcome of this drawing and it’s start into an abstract style, this then inspired me to create this shadow drawing with coloured markers, introducing multiple light sources.
Tumblr media
I really enjoyed this session in the light room and will definitely be back to orchestrate new scenes and take more encapsulating photographs!

Vinyl: A format that baffles me
Within modern times, an old format called Vinyl has been making a comeback. Back then, this format was the best easy to use home music format, since the pressed records were usually higher quality and more accurate to the original source material, than that of compact cassette tapes, and 8 track tapes. This all made sense in an era that was ruled by masters being stored on analog formats, like reel to reel tape. However, music at one point shifted to being made digitally, which means how it sounds, is how it sounds. Because of this, modern produced Vinyl has none of the gains that older discs had, so I have to ask: why would someone spend so much on the format?
The only thing I can see modern vinyl as good for is as a display piece. Much like Laserdiscs, releases on vinyl tend to have nice big artwork that looks nice to display. This is the only part of modern produced Vinyl that I think I can see the appeal of, as, aside from that, and possibly tracks exclusive to a modern vinyl release, you aren't gaining any sound quality from using this format. Speaking of...
The negatives! The main negative is the cost of getting a "good player", and setup. While this all matters if you want to record and preserve older vinyl releases in good quality, some people will spend thousands of dollars on expensive players... Only to ever play modern releases that come from digital masters, and it just baffles me to no end. Why not just listen to the digital version where you don't need to spend nearly as much to have an enjoyable clean listening experience?
The other main negative is just the principal of it all. Vinyl was great at reproducing a lot of frequencies from high quality analog masters. This is why it was desired back then, and is still good for some older music. But as most everything is made digitally or is sourced from a digital recording of an analog master, the benefits vinyl can provide seem to be lost. Why would I want something like Freddi Fish on Vinyl, when I could just listen to the music, direct from the digital masters, without crackling, and without needing to spend so much for it to sound so good?
At the end of the day, folk should feel free to collect and invest in what they want to. This post isn't intended to shame anyone who's already into this all (trust me, I'm into my fair share of big expensive things, with the huge one being something I'll talk about in a few weeks), but to provide my perspective of why I'd never get into collecting modern vinyl, since it has little to no advantage.

An Introduction to the Art of Fishing
Fishing is an art form that has been practiced for centuries and continues to be enjoyed by people of all ages. It’s a great way to relax, enjoy nature, and get some exercise. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just starting out, there’s something for everyone in the world of fishing. Read on to learn more about this popular pastime.
The Basics of Fishing Fishing can be done in both freshwater and saltwater environments with a variety of different tools. The most common type of fishing involves using a rod and reel with bait attached to the hook. Other types of fishing include fly-fishing, spearfishing, trolling, and bottom fishing (fishing on or near the ocean floor). Depending on where you live, you may need to purchase a license in order to fish legally.
The Benefits of Fishing Fishing can provide many physical and mental benefits. Physically speaking, fishing is great exercise since it requires walking long distances while carrying heavy equipment such as rods and reels. Mentally speaking, being out in nature can help reduce stress levels and improve overall well-being. Additionally, catching your own food is not only rewarding but also helps you save money on groceries!
Tips for Beginner Fishers           If you’re new to the hobby of fishing, here are some tips that will help you get started:
•Research local regulations before going—make sure you know what kind of licenses are required for the area you’re planning to fish in as well as what kinds of bait are allowed/not allowed.
•Make sure your rod and reel are properly set up before heading out—properly setting up your rod and reel will help ensure that your line stays tangle-free throughout your whole trip!
•Bring plenty of snacks—it can take hours before you catch anything so it’s important to have snacks handy just in case! Snacks like trail mix or protein bars are ideal since they don’t require refrigeration or special storage conditions.
•Practice patience—fishing isn't always easy so make sure that you stay patient when things don't go as planned! Don't give up too easily because sometimes it takes time for the fish to bite!

A Guide to Choosing Baitcasting Reel
Tumblr media
Because of widespread concerns, many fishermen avoid using baitcasting reels. Hearing the dreaded phrase "birds' nest" makes you less likely to give these reels a chance to prove themselves. Misconceptions that they are hard to deal with. Using a baitcasting rod and reel to learn how to fish may also keep other people on the perimeter of your attention. When everything is said and done, the best baitcasting reel is essential for people who feel. This reel enables an angler to use specific strategies, presentations, and a more robust line. It just takes a tiny bit of experience to become proficient with best baitcasting reels, and anglers who spend significant amounts of time on the water often take the place of spinning reels for most of the work that has to be done. This buyer's guide will provide you with the knowledge required to make an educated choice on what to look for when purchasing a baitcasting as well as what makes them the ideal addition to your reel arsenal and more information check Best Baitcasting Reel.
Tumblr media
Baitcasting Reel Defined
A baitcasting is a reel that rotates its spool and fits on top of a casting rod with a trigger handle. This is the most basic explanation of what a baitcasting is. This is the opposite of a spinning reel, designed to be placed on top of a spinning rod with the line guides pointing in the other direction.
Spinning reels such as Lew's Custom Inshore SLP casting reels are available in right-handed and left-handed variants, with the latter being the more common choice. Because the handles on fixed-spool reels cannot be changed as quickly as those on spinning reels, it is necessary to determine which option provides the most comfortable grip. There are a lot of folks who are right-handed that utilize right-handed reels. On the other hand, using this apparatus, the revolution is held in the left hand after the cast is produced, and the handle is turned with the right hand. The situation is completely reversed for a model who writes with their left hand.
Those anglers who prefer to keep their casting hand the same may find that using a setup identical to their spinning reel is the most convenient option.
Choosing the Gear Ratio for a Baitcasting Reel
Every reel has something called a gear ratio. To put it another way, it is a description of the pace of the revolution. The gear ratios 5.4:1, 6.4:1, and 7.1:1 is all often found in baitcasting reels. However, what do each of these numbers represent? The first group of figures indicates the number of times the reel handle must be turned to complete one spool rotation. In the case of a reel with a ratio of 6.4:1, for example, one turn of the handle will cause the spool to rotate 6.4 times. The greater the number, the greater the quantity of line data that can be obtained with maintaining the same level of effort.
A gear ratio of 6.4:1 is found on the market's most popular reel. This will enable you to deal with presentations that move quickly and those that go slowly. On the other hand, a gear ratio that is either very high or extremely low may often provide the optimum results for specific methods and applications.
For instance, using a spinnerbait or buzz bait effectively requires a reel with a gear ratio of 7.1:1. To work a crankbait, on the other hand, you need a slower gear ratio, such as 5.4:1, for it to be as effective as possible. Higher gear ratios are often preferable when fishing in locations with limited strike zones. This is because these gear ratios make it easier and quicker for your bait to return to the boat in preparation for another throw.
Tumblr media
Braking Systems on Fishing Reels
Braking mechanisms are standard on baitcasting reels because of their design. The spinning of the spool may be adjusted and slowed down using these throughout the casting process. If this weren't in place, the inevitable reaction would keep repeating over and over again. (For those unfamiliar with the word, a tangled mass of line is referred to as a tangle, and it's what you're left with when the spool on your reel continues to turn even after your bait has stopped going forward.)
The first line of defense for altering the spool speed is the knob that controls the tension on the spool. It is the prominent knob that is located on the side of the reel handle. Adjust this knob to the point where it is sufficiently tight so that your lure will descend gradually to the earth when you remove the reel. As soon as it makes contact, the spool's rotation should instantly be brought to a halt. When using a heavier lure, the tension on the line should be pulled tighter.
The friction principle is used in centrifugal brakes, and the adjustments are made through pins inside the reel's side plate. Pull the pins in the opposite direction to disengage the brakes. When adjusting a six-pin system, you should always modify the nails diagonally opposite one another. Either one or the other ought to be active.
Although magnetic brakes operate according to a more intricate theory, they still depend on the spool and magnets to slow down the pace at which the spool is turning. Therefore, the fisherman may also change them to their desired settings.
It doesn't matter what kind of braking mechanism a reel has; mastering the proper way to thumb the spool is still your best option for casting without any problems. Of course, you should adjust the different braking systems each time you go out on the water, but you should let your thumb handle most of the job.

Salmo Trutta
“One angler weighed up the pros and cons of fishing for rainbow or brown trout: ‘The choice between the rainbow – often easier to hook and harder to land, and the brown – always harder to hook and sometimes easier to land, is a matter of taste and style, and there are no rights and wrongs in the matter.’”
- R. M. McDowall, The Reed field guide to New Zealand freshwater fishes. Auckland: Reed, 2000, p. 256.
I am not much of an angler, yet I am a man. And once a boy. A boy who grew up hooking eels from the lake, grabbing carp from flooded grass, bucketing spotties on a wharf and weighing anchor after anchor in the firth. So there’s a life of angling, despite never having fallen for the trap myself.
Still, I tend to carry a travel rod with me. Four piece blank, tiny guides and a simple reel spooled in gossamer braid; it makes tying knots fun. It’s a setup able to swing a softbait, tow a wobbler behind a rowed dinghy, or flick a veltic along the river bank. I carry it with me on trips, because I love the sport.
Rowing quietly over some cover and letting a softbait swim just above the kelp and then hooking a heavy snapper, the kind that makes your leader knot ping across the guides, is a perfect day. Too, standing thigh deep in a braided river casting for running salmon… despite the only bites being the sandflies.
Today I loaded a backpack with thick jam sandwiches of doughy bread, chocolate smattered Anzac biscuits, a yeti full of tea, tackle, reel and rod. Laura, ever willing, and Mlles. F & M rugged up against 13°c, a cruel wind and spits of rain strolled an urban adventure for three-quarters of an hour, never more than a hundred yards from a road, but though paddocks, behind houses and along the river, until a picnic and cast spot.
While the girls munched and supped, I tied a Veltic #3 in rainbow trout colour, and started casting. The river was high and strong, with a swirling eddy just down the bank from me. I kept trying my luck and testing my courage, letting the eddy tow the lure hard to the bank and then jigging past some cover, which I supposed would hide a trout finning and waiting for some food.
I paused my angling for a sandwich and tea, explored the bank with the girls and decided to try again. Mlle. M was onto her own last morcel and warned me I had about three more casts [before her patience waned]. I flicked out line again and let the lure wash as close to a willow in the water as I dare, jigged and snagged heavily. Deflated I wound a few times and pulled, in case I had merely grabbed a twig, the snag moved slowly with me …and then flicked. The tip of the rod doubled and line sliced through the water! A fish! “Girls, come here I’ve got a fish on” I called surprising myself.
I landed, unhooked, and presented the trout for quick pats, before letting it back into the water, always glad and hopeful when a fish swims away. Chuffed too that my decision of where I would be if I was a trout was validated!
Home beside the fire tonight I mulled over the fight. A heavy dead weight, a few pulls of line on swims, but for a nice sized fish not much of a scrap. I was glad to find the McDowall passage at the top of this post. Glad that a wiser head and more wizened an angler than I summed it up. I’ll take the passage one further, winter moocher snapper, brilliant kahawai jumping on a tight line in the bay, rainbow trout from the sand bank searing across the shallows or a heavy brown against the bank. My taste and style is the adventure and the story, no rights or wrongs in the matter.

FISHERMEN!
Let's talk about baits and lures. My hope is to give and get some input on preferred baits for different locations. Whether it is for the most bites or the biggest, what is your go to?
I will be talking about my favorite baits for different bodies of water in Southern California. I hope to get some comments about what you use wherever you fish.
First I will discuss my preferred saltwater baits and lures. I tend to fish off of piers for saltwater and after a couple of years of steady fishing, I have found my go to baits for catching lots and catching big ones. My favorite bait to use here is squid because I have the most consistency catching anything with this. It is messy and makes your hands smell but the fish love it. With squid I also never know what I am going to catch, I often bring in bass, mackerel, or stingrays. It is definitely my go to for getting a bite. As for larger and more sought after catches I switch it up to live bait. Live local smelt is not as easily available as squid but if you can catch some yourself or find somewhere selling it, I highly recommend giving it a try. I have caught my personal sea bass with live smelt as well as personal best halibut. These fish are prized for the fight they put up as well as their delicious meat. So if you want to try some saltwater fishing and do not know where to start for bait, try squid or live local bait fish.
As for lures in saltwater I have one go that catches me consisten bass and halibut. This is the drop shot setup with a white curly tail grub. On beaches or piers I have found that this lure attracts various fish and in the summer months almost always catches me something.
My approach to freshwater fishing is similar in some ways with live bait getting me my best catches. In the winter months when bass and bluegill are slower I throw out a live worm. Because it is slow moving, the sluggish fish tend to hang around it until they decide to give it a bite. I switch this bait up to live minnows in the summer and warmer months. Once the fish are warmed up they are more actively searching for food. They will more aggressively target your live bait than in the winter. My favorite part about using either worms or minnows is that I can catch pretty much anything that is living in the freshwater. Off both worms and minnows I have gotten different types of bass, catfish, and panfish.
My go to lure in any freshwater is a dark color swimbait on a weighted hook. It resembles the live minnows and allows you to cast and reel toward specific target areas.
If there's any pointers you would like to put out or recommendations on bait or lures, comment below!

Improving Your Angling Strategy with Joshua Hare Turner_ Strategies to Boost Fishing Success Rates
Improving Your Angling Strategy with Joshua Hare Turner: Strategies to Boost Fishing Success Rates
Fishing is not just a hobby; it's a skill that requires patience, technique, and strategic thinking. Whether you're a novice angler or a seasoned fisherman looking to improve your success rates, refining your angling strategy is key. In this blog, we explore effective strategies to help you become a better fisherman, from selecting the right gear to honing your casting technique and understanding fish behavior. By implementing these strategies, you can increase your chances of reeling in a big catch and enjoying a fulfilling day on the water.
Joshua Turner
Mastering Gear Selection
Selecting the right gear is crucial for success in fishing. Begin by choosing a rod and reel that are appropriate for the type of fishing you plan to do and the species you're targeting. Consider factors such as rod length, action, and power, as well as reel size and gear ratio. Match your gear to the specific conditions and techniques you'll be using, whether it's casting for bass in freshwater lakes or trolling for tuna in the open ocean.
Moreover, investing in high-quality fishing line, hooks, and terminal tackle can make a significant difference in your angling success. Choose line and hooks that are strong and durable, yet thin enough to be inconspicuous to wary fish. Experiment with different types of bait and lures to determine what works best for the fish you're targeting and the conditions you're fishing in. By mastering gear selection with the help of experts like Joshua Hare Turner, you can optimize your setup for maximum effectiveness and increase your chances of landing a trophy catch.
Understanding Fish Behavior
To become a better fisherman, it's essential to understand the behavior and habits of the fish you're targeting. Different species of fish have unique feeding patterns, preferences, and habitats, so take the time to research and observe their behavior in the wild. Learn about the types of forage they prefer, the depths at which they typically feed, and the environmental factors that influence their movements.
Furthermore, pay attention to seasonal and weather patterns, as these can have a significant impact on fish behavior. Fish are often more active during certain times of the day or year, such as early morning or during periods of low light. By timing your fishing trips to coincide with optimal feeding times and conditions with the help of experts like Joshua Hare Turner, you can increase your chances of encountering active and hungry fish.
Additionally, be mindful of factors such as water temperature, currents, and wind direction, as these can affect fish behavior and movement patterns. By understanding fish behavior and adapting your approach accordingly with the help of experts like Joshua Hare Turner, you can strategically position yourself for success and improve your angling results.
Perfecting Casting Technique
Casting is a fundamental skill in fishing, and mastering your casting technique can significantly improve your success rates on the water. Practice casting with different types of rods and reels to develop accuracy, distance, and control. Focus on smooth, fluid motions and aim for precision in your casts, whether you're targeting a specific spot near a shoreline or casting into open water.
Moreover, experiment with different casting techniques, such as overhead casting, sidearm casting, and pitching, to determine which approach works best for your fishing style and the conditions you're fishing in. Practice casting in various environments and under different conditions, such as windy days or tight spaces, to build confidence and adaptability.
Additionally, pay attention to your surroundings and adjust your casting technique accordingly, taking into account factors such as obstructions, wind direction, and water depth. By perfecting your casting technique with the help of experts like Joshua Hare Turner, you can effectively place your bait or lure where the fish are and increase your chances of enticing a strike.
Patience and Persistence
Patience is perhaps the most critical attribute of a successful fisherman. Fishing requires patience and persistence, as success often comes to those who are willing to wait and persevere through periods of slow action. Be prepared to spend time on the water observing, waiting, and adapting your strategy as needed. Remember that fishing is not just about catching fish; it's about enjoying the experience of being outdoors and connecting with nature.
Moreover, be persistent in your pursuit of success and don't be discouraged by setbacks or slow days. Fishing can be unpredictable, and even the most experienced anglers have days when the fish aren't biting. Instead of becoming frustrated, use these moments as opportunities to learn and improve your skills. Experiment with different techniques, baits, and locations, and pay attention to what works and what doesn't. By remaining patient and persistent, you'll increase your chances of success and enjoy a more fulfilling fishing experience in the long run.
Environmental Awareness
Environmental awareness is essential for successful fishing, as the health and condition of the aquatic ecosystem directly impact fish populations and behavior. Take the time to familiarize yourself with local regulations, conservation measures, and best practices for sustainable fishing. Respect catch limits and size restrictions, and practice catch-and-release fishing whenever possible to help preserve fish populations for future generations.
Additionally, be mindful of your impact on the environment and take steps to minimize your footprint while fishing. Avoid littering or polluting the waterways, and dispose of trash and fishing line properly. Respect wildlife and natural habitats, and avoid disturbing nesting birds, spawning fish, or sensitive aquatic vegetation. By practicing environmental awareness and responsible fishing practices, you can contribute to the health and sustainability of the aquatic ecosystem and ensure that future generations can enjoy the sport of fishing.
Continuous Learning and Adaptation
Finally, becoming a better fisherman is an ongoing journey of continuous learning and adaptation. Stay curious and open-minded, and be willing to try new techniques, explore new waters, and learn from both successes and failures. Take advantage of resources such as books, articles, online forums, and fishing seminars to expand your knowledge and skills.
Moreover, seek out opportunities to fish with experienced anglers and learn from their expertise and insights. Pay attention to the habits and techniques of successful fishermen, and incorporate their strategies into your own approach. Be adaptable and flexible in your fishing tactics, and don't be afraid to experiment and innovate. By embracing a mindset of continuous learning and adaptation with the help of experts like Joshua Hare Turner, you can continually improve your angling skills and increase your success rates on the water.
Improving your angling strategy requires a combination of skill, knowledge, patience, and persistence. How to Properly Clean and Maintain Your Fishing Rod and Reel
Fishing enthusiasts know the importance of quality gear in ensuring a successful and enjoyable angling experience. The most crucial equipment is fishing rods and reels, which require proper care and maintenance to perform optimally and last for years. Whether you're a seasoned angler or a novice just starting, understanding how to clean and maintain your fishing rod and reel is essential for preserving their functionality and longevity. This comprehensive guide will explore the best practices for keeping your fishing gear in top condition, from routine cleaning to preventive maintenance.
Understanding the Importance of Maintenance
Before delving into the specifics of cleaning and maintenance, it's essential to grasp why these practices are crucial for your fishing rod and reel. Over time, exposure to water, sand, salt, and other environmental elements can lead to corrosion, rust, and mechanical wear and tear, compromising the performance and lifespan of your gear. By implementing regular maintenance routines, you can prevent these issues from arising, prolonging the usability of your equipment and ensuring optimal performance on every fishing expedition.
Cleaning Your Fishing Rod
Proper cleaning begins with the fishing rod, which is the foundation of your angling setup. Here's a step-by-step guide to cleaning your fishing rod effectively:
Inspect for Damage: Before cleaning, carefully inspect your rod for any signs of damage, including cracks, fractures, or loose guides. Address any issues promptly to prevent further deterioration.
Remove Debris: Using a soft brush or cloth, gently remove any dirt, sand, or Debris from the rod's surface, focusing on the guides, reel seat, and handle. Pay special attention to crevices and hard-to-reach areas where dirt may accumulate.
Clean with Mild Soap: Prepare a solution of mild dish soap and warm water in a bucket or basin. Dip a clean cloth or sponge into the soapy water and wipe down the entire length of the rod, taking care not to submerge it completely.
Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the rod with fresh water to remove any soap residue after cleaning. Ensure thorough rinsing to prevent soap buildup, which can attract dirt and grime.
Dry Completely: Allow the rod to air dry in a well-ventilated area, completely dry before storage. Avoid exposing the rod to direct sunlight or high heat, as this can cause damage to the finish and components.
Maintaining Your Fishing Reel
Next, focus on the fishing reel, a critical component of your angling setup. Here's how to properly clean and maintain your fishing reel to keep it performing smoothly:
Disassemble the Reel: Begin by carefully disassembling the reel according to the manufacturer's instructions. Take note of the placement and orientation of each component to facilitate reassembly later.
Remove Excess Grease and Dirt: Using a soft brush or cotton swab, remove any excess grease, dirt, or Debris from the reel's exterior and interior components. Pay particular attention to the gears, bearings, and drag system, as these areas are prone to buildup and friction.
Clean with Reel Cleaner: Apply a specialized reel cleaner or degreaser to the components, following the product's instructions for safe and effective use. Use a soft brush or toothbrush to scrub stubborn residue, ensuring thorough cleaning.
Inspect and Lubricate Moving Parts: After cleaning, inspect the reel's moving parts, including gears, bearings, and springs, for signs of wear or damage. Apply a small amount of reel oil or lubricant to these components to ensure smooth operation and reduce friction.
Reassemble and Test: When cleaned and lubricated, carefully reassemble the reel, referring to the manufacturer's instructions. Test the reel's functionality by turning the handle and adjusting the drag system to ensure everything operates smoothly.
Preserving Your Fishing Passion
Proper cleaning and maintenance are essential to caring for your fishing rod and reel, ensuring they remain in top condition for years of angling adventures. By following these essential tips and incorporating regular maintenance routines into your fishing regimen, you can preserve the performance and longevity of your gear, maximizing your enjoyment on the water. So, before your next fishing excursion, take the time to clean and maintain your fishing rod and reel—it's a small investment that pays dividends in the long run, allowing you to fish with confidence and peace of mind.
