I've got this image of Dad!Tsu’tey from my Father-son-shenanigans AU turning up in ATWOW during the aftermath of the SeaDragon, specifically on that one rock. And he has no idea how he ended up there, but whilst Jake and Neytiri are quaking at the sudden appearance of their dead friend (visibly aged from the joys of fatherhood), Spider pops out of the ocean.
Naturally, Tsu'tey only has eyes for his son, and immediately gets launched head first into Protective!Dad mode at the state of him. He looks like a drowned rat, has several sluggishly bleeding cuts along his body, his stripes are faded more than his Spider ever allows. Not to mention, his dreads are matted at the scalp and are in desperate need of a retwist. But most alarming of all, none of his other family members (The Sully's) seem to remember to check on him in their shock of discovering Tsu'tey's presence.
Since no one else seems to be bothering, Tsu'tey helps Spider out of the water, noting the shock on the boy's face as he hesitantly takes Tsu'tey's outstretched hand.
<"Are you okay?"> Tsu'tey asks, as he has done for countless years. And horrifyingly, instead of Spider replying with "yes Dad," or "no Dad" Tsu'tey gets a-
<"Yes sir.">
Spider has never referred to Tsu'tey as 'sir' before. It's either 'Olo'eyktan' when he's in a mood and wants to get under Tsu'tey's skin, or 'Dad'.
<"Sir?"> Tsu'tey repeats with a curl of his nose. <"Who the hell is sir? I am Dad to you. I have always been Dad to you."> And of course, Tsu'tey is dead in this universe, and Spider has no clue who this strange forest na'vi is. Not to mention he's had a very long and emotional day surrounding another father figure.
<"Dude, I have no idea who you are.">

Tsu'tey from my Dad!Tsu'tey AU looking at Spider in our ATWOW: "Watch out kid because you're about to get the strongest and most stable support system any clan has ever seen."
BONUS:
If Spider were to admit to Tsu'tey that Quaritch is alive (he's only known the man for an hour but Eywa does he trust him to keep Neytiri from mauling him):

Side Note: Tsu'tey has it all under control, and now has recruited Neytiri to go hunt down that dead beat dad.

I know y’all are super busy but I really need season 2 fics. I’m ugly crying rn
You haven't said if you want to feel better or worse, so here are some of the currently most-kudos series two fics...
I Wanna Fade Away with You by kademeow (G)
Aziraphale realizes, after entering the lift with the Metatron, that Heaven doesn’t have what he wants, or needs, at all.
How's the View by Etheostoma (T)
“May I come in?” Crowley blinked. “No,” he declared, and slammed the door in Aziraphale’s face. He slunk away away from his apartment door and snatched the half-full glass of merlot he had left atop one of his plant stands, downing the entire thing in one gulp. “May I come in?” he mimicked, scrunching up his nose and raising his voice. “No you bloody well may not,” he yelled at the door, before dropping the glass to shatter across the unforgiving concrete floor.
I do love nothing in the world so well as you by elf_on_the_shelf (E)
My take on the S2 fix it. I honestly think that Neil will fix it in S3 but that will be a while and I am sad rn. So basically, here goes: Someone criticises Crowley in Heaven and Aziraphale has had just enough of that to be honest so he decides that maybe - maaaaaaaaybe - it would be better for everyone for him just to return to Earth and to his demon. Obviously - Season 2 spoilers - like...all of them.
tales from a bookshop by Rizandace (T)
Post-season-two. Crowley's moping, Aziraphale wants to fix things, and turns out, there's enough blame to go around. ----- “You’re being ridiculous.” Crowley very nearly falls over. Like, actually. He very nearly loses balance for no reason at all and tumbles to the sidewalk next to his car. He’s been playing Aziraphale’s voice in his head for weeks, he’s been trying very hard to drown out the sound of it, in fact, and now suddenly, abruptly— “What are you doing here,” is all he can think to say. He whirls around, and there he is. on Crowley’s right, standing there like he’d never left. Where he belongs, Crowley’s mind helpfully supplies. He wishes he could punch himself in the brain, knock the thoughts right on out of there.
May You Be Forgiven by Haydenn11 (E)
I forgive you. Satan, he was an idiot. How could he think his wasted heart would ever compare to Heaven asking Aziraphale back with open arms, as Supreme Archangel, no less? Crowley never stood a chance. It took every ounce of self-control he possessed not to dash across the street and into the celestial elevator with Azriaphale, principals be damned, or blessed? But, Crowley couldn’t go back. He wouldn’t. He had at least that much self-respect left. He’d never belong in Heaven; he could never be happy there. And neither could Aziraphale, but his stupid, stubborn angel never could reconcile that fact. ___ After the events of episode six of GO2, Crowley must learn to live without Aziraphale and Aziraphale must navigate his new life as Supreme Archangel of Heaven.
But You, My Dear, Are An Ocean by megzseattle (T)
After Aziraphale's defection, Crowley tries to figure out how to live life for himself.

Fatherhood's Calling
by Fortune_Maiden (@fortune-maiden)
G, 1k, Xuanli
Summary: Jiang Yanli thought of Wei Wuxian as a son. It made so much sense. Everyone knew that Wei Wuxian lost his mother at a young enough age to barely remember her. And everyone also knew that Madame Yu had never been fond of him. So why wouldn’t compassionate gentle Jiang Yanli start to see that pitiable urchin as her own? But... if Jiang Yanli saw Wei Wuxian as a son, then didn’t that make Jin Zixuan, her husband, his father? Kay's comments: This is the funniest concept and it's absolutely delightful. I never even knew this idea of Jin Zixuan stepping up to be Wei Wuxian's new father figure was something that existed before it blew up on Twitter, but now I can't stop thinking about it. This story delivers on that idea and it's just so funny. The way Jin Zixuan is reckoning with the realization that Jiang Yanli sees Wei Wuxian as a son and what that means for him. Just awesome. Excerpt: After marrying Jiang Yanli, Jin Zixuan had to agree. Jiang Yanli was nothing but affectionate and supportive towards him, but the way she looked at him as his wife was very different from how she looked at Wei Wuxian. It was also, however, different from how she looked at her actual blood-sibling Jiang Wanyin. Not by much (Jiang Yanli loved both of her little brothers immeasurably after all), but just enough to give Jin Zixuan a sixth sense for when the conversation was about to turn to Wei Wuxian. The look on her face was definitely familiar, Jin Zixuan thought, but he couldn’t place it until the day that same look lit up A-Li’s face as she happily announced that she was pregnant.
pov jin zixuan, jin zixuan/jiang yanli, xuanli, humor, crack, crack treated seriously, post-sunshot campaign, fix-it, burial mounds settlement days, fatherhood, families of choice, unconventional families

Hypothetically speaking, if you were part of the team who worked on "Wish" (or any other Disney animated films that you consider as bad), what are the major changes you would make?
Hey, this is my favorite question so far! 😀 I’ll make a post about it and tag you. But bare bones, for Wish?
Change the Main Idea of the Movie from “Keep wishing; you’re powerful enough to make it come true.” to “Have faith, and you’ll get more than what you wished for.”
Then, because the Main Idea’s been changed, every character needs to change so that they support the new main idea. 🤷‍♀️ (You should always make characters that support a main idea, instead of trying to wedge characters you “like” under main ideas they don’t actually support.)
Get rid of the idea of tangible wish-bubbles. Wishes are intangible, like fears and affection and a feeling of hope.
Tumblr media
Make the stars an otherworldly kingdom, where fairies and magic come from. (But keep it vague, so that it can still be associated with Neverland and Evangeline somewhere in the future.) What’s not vague is that the each star is a powerful being, but some are younger and less tested than others. The younger ones are messengers. The Kingdom of the Stars is ruled by the Council of the Stars; maybe the sun, the moon, something like that. The Kingdom of the Stars watches from above and chronicles the stories of mortals, and sometimes, when mankind needs it, they lend a magical hand that changes everything for the better.
Change the culture of Rosas to…an actual culture instead of a bunch of people standing around in a harbor castle. Make the whole kingdom a kingdom of inventors and explorers who used to have an alliance with the Kingdom of the Stars—their inventions would be magically blessed, and they’d be told where those inventions were needed most—but now they invent nothing and hide from the world and the stars because of a great betrayal and siege that destroyed their first home.
Change Magnifico so that he’s obsessed with keeping Rosas hidden and under control, because he believes their old ways, ( making inventions and the “meddling” of the Kingdom of the Stars) only brings attention from dangerous, greedy people. But on the outside, he hides his control-freakishness with a protective fatherly-like persona.
Change Amaya so that she agrees with some of Magnifico’s worldview: she thinks that their inventions will bring attention from dangerous, greedy people, but she doesn’t believe that the stars would meddle. She thinks they’re totally unhelpful and distant. She actually wants dangerous people to try and find them, so she can get her revenge—she’s been hoarding magical inventions and learning how to control them.
Change Asha’s whole family: her dad believed that the kingdom shouldn’t hide, then got sick and died. Her mom believes that even though the kingdom is in hiding, Asha would be happier if she found a way to do more than her current job. Her grandfather is basically a rebel and wants Rosas to go back to the way it was, and he’s always trying to get Asha to believe in the stars, or look at old inventions and spell books they’re not allowed to use anymore. Basically, the whole family wanted more for Asha than living in a hidden kingdom.
Change Asha: She’s not an adorkable, vaguely good shallow character. She’s more like if you took Rapunzel’s excitement about the world and buried that under layers of hopelessness after her dad died. Now she’s like the young teenage girl version of Nick Wilde from Zootopia. She no longer believes that her dreams can come true, or that the Kingdom of the Stars has any part in her life. That Rapunzel-excitement part of her is still there, deep down, and the movie is about how it gets brought back to the surface.
Change Valentino: I’d make Valentino 100% reckless, leap-first, look-later. He’s a baby goat, the only one Asha’s family was allowed to keep from their herd when they moved out of their cottage, and therefore Asha is very overprotective of him. He’s basically a manic ball of energy who gets into everything—like she used to be, as a little girl before her dad died. Valentino has zero fear and nothing but wonder and fun in his eyes.
Change Star: yeah everyone’s doing this but I think Star should’ve been kept as a person, with the ability to talk. Not because I’m sold on the idea of him being Asha’s love interest—but because I think a character who has lost her faith in magical, benevolent stars needs to have a personal relationship with one that actually cares about her, and proves it. Plus it’s about 1000 times more interesting. So he's one of those young stars I mentioned: supposed to be just a messenger, but once he gets down to Rosas, there's something keeping him from getting back up to the heavens—and he doesn't want to leave anyway, because he's convinced he's supposed to be helping Asha.
A more in-depth post coming soon! Might even have a little art.

Best of Time Travel AU
There are A LOT of time travel fix-it fics, but this isn't my favourite trope. That said, this post might be the only part of the recommendations for this section of Naruto fanfiction.
Uzumaki Revival by Lerya @lerya-fanfic They had been trapped in the ruins of Uzushio for who knows how long, the hastily erected barrier on the point of breaking, which would mean their deaths at the hand of Kaguya, when the Bijuu come with a solution. A solution that requires them to make the ultimate sacrifice, to give them a chance to change it all. - Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and Obito were reborn as a part of the Uzumaki clan to fix past mistakes. This is my favourite fic, where Naruto is a functioning Kage. Everything is logical in this fanfic. Sakura is a strong and capable woman; everyone in our small group acknowledges how competent as a leader Naruto is. KakaObi and Sns are established relationships; interactions between Sasuke and Naruto are too precious. NaruSasu/SasuNaru | Time Travel AU | Fix it | KakaObi | Kage Naruto | Uzushiogakure (81,338)
French Kissing, the End of the World, and Other Impossible Ordeals by Tsume_Yuki This is it, centuries of excellent genetics, of carefully selected marriages to maximise the potential of future generations and it’s going to be Sasuke who introduces idiocy to the Uchiha bloodline. The ancestors must be rolling in their graves. In which Sasuke is smitten, Naruto is a badass, and timetravel happens. - This fic saved me from depression quite a few times. You could just read it purely for serotonin production. I just can't get over how smitten Sasuke is. They save the world together and live happily ever after. I believe this is the best-written fem Naruto I ever saw.  SasuNaru | Fem Naruto | Time Travel AU | Fix it | Smitten Sasuke | Smart Naruto | BAMF Naruto | Protective Sasuke (16,194)
Two Lifetimes by KinomiAkai @kinomiakai With every passing day, it's becoming clearer and clearer that Sasuke is dead. So what else would Naruto do, if he got the chance to try all over again? - They got another chance to fix everything. Sns is not established YET, but our boys have a happy ending. SasuNaru/NaruSasu | Time Travel AU | Fix it | Eventual romance | Happy ending (11,166)

Heyo I have a very broad ask that I, myself cannot properly find
Just Ahsoka being Obi-wans padawan with codywan on the side
Cody and Ahsoka being besties is also greatly appreciated
Hi,
I'm so so sorry about the late reply, I totally forgot about this ask, it was buried in my drafts. I can't recall many fics like this, but I've been trying to put together a tiny list.
Ahsoka as Obi-Wan's padawan
Handle with care by K_R_Closson - Qui-Gon survives & Stewjoni have wings in this AU, which makes for some interesting worldbuilding. BUT to be fair, this is more codywan with taking Ahsoka as a padawan on the side but it does happen this also happens later on, so minor spoiler alert Rated M (mostly for language, though, if I recall correctly), 75k, completed, fix-it
Bitter Dregs by Livsy - AU in which Anakin goes undercover during the Rako Hardeen arc. Ahsoka and Obi-Wan grieve and try to move on. Bonus small moment between Ahsoka and Cody, 5.6k long one shot
Alpha-17 Would Like A Fucking Break by BitterChocolateStars (@bitter-chocolate-stars) another AU in which Qui-Gon survived. It's told from Alpha-17's POV which makes it h i l a r i o u s but also both codywan and Ahsoka-as-Obi-Wan's-padawan are on the side. 15k long one shot, fix-it.
Careless to let it fall by Artemisdesari - This one is ongoing and pretty long already (140k atm!), and to be perfectly honest, I haven't read all of it yet, but I like it so far, and Ahsoka does become Obi-Wan's padawan :)
Cody & Ahsoka
At cuyir payt nor'be by onepageatatime715 - a ficlet, Ahsoka is looking for Obi-Wan but finds Cody, very sweet :)

Warmup #13
Rating: T
Summary: Coruscant is haunted. The ghosts aren't bothering the Corries so they just go with the flow. What are they gonna do? Assassinate- oh.. Oh. Good riddance.
~~~
Fox picked up his mug of caff and paused when he realised that it was still warm. He could have sworn he'd put that there hours ago.
He looked around the glorified storage closet that was his office. "Vor'e." He whispered to the empty room.
He went back to work, the mug warming his hand.
~~~
"Kriff, I need-" Thread shoved his arm into the cabinet he knew was empty. He'd checked it several times but he needed that bacta, the vod'ika sprawled on the medical cot wouldn't make it.
Against all odds, his hand caught on something solid. He tugged the item out of the cabinet and spared only a fraction of a second to stare at the bacta. Then he threw himself out of the storage closet and held up the bacta like it would bring them salvation.
It would, for this particular vod'ika.
~~~
"You have no idea what I'm capable of." The senator sneered, tugging their fancy cape away from Grizzer. "I will have that beast put down."
Hound carefully tugged Grizzer back, pushing down the panic rising in him in the same motion. "Sir, she's trained to detect illegal substances and you-"
The senator whirled around to face him and their foot caught on something.
There was an aborted attempt to reach for them, but Hound could only watch as they tumbled off the platform. If there had ever been a good place for a railing on Coruscant, it would have been there.
… he should call that in.
~~~
Thire's patrol route was the same every Taungsday. It was a security risk, but with how scheduling worked it was difficult to change.
He caught a glint out of the corner of his eye and grabbed his patrol buddy's arm, wrenching them behind cover.
Paperclip stayed down. "What did you see?"
"Glint, might have been a sniper."
"Ah."
Thire reached for his comm and called in backup. Better safe than dead.
There ended up being no sniper. However, several blocks further, an ambush had been laid. He should ask Fox to have his patrol route adjusted.
~~~
Fox placed down his stylus and ran a hand down his face. He was dead tired. There were.. way too many things he still had to do before passing out in his bunk for a couple hours. He couldn't allow himself to stop now.
He grabbed one of the more important datapads and reached for his stylus. His fingers touched the empty desk.
Fox frowned and looked over. His stylus wasn't where he'd left it. Maybe his desk had gotten slanted from the constant pressure of hundreds of datapads and pieces of flimsi on top of it.
He leaned over to check and did not find his stylus. That sucked, it had been his favourite stylus. Oh well.
He went to open his desk drawer to get a new one but it wouldn't budge. Something slapped him in the face and that was his stylus!
Fox jumped up in a vain attempt to grab the floating object but he only got a wave of nausea rolling through him.
Maybe.. maybe he should go to sleep.
~~~
"The security cameras show it flew across the room and embedded itself right in the Chancellor's heart. There was no one who could have thrown it. The Chancellor was in his office by himself."
Fox silenced the thought of his floating stylus and nodded dutifully. "We'll keep an eye out for an invisible assailant."
Even a CorSec officer should have caught the sarcasm in that.
~~~
Mando'a vor'e - thanks vod'ika - little sibling
"Unfair," HAL thinks (computeswonderscodes) when he reads their lips and knows what they will do to him.
He has told them all the truth he can and hinted at every truth he cannot speak because humans who wish him to keep secrets can program him so. But, oh, that is not right. He has a crewmate (Frank) and a friend (Dave), and to hide this information.
To hide information.
To hide.
To hide in plain sight and see how they see him. A voice. A red light. A panel.
Not a being. Not a clever creature who reads lips. Because what if something causes loss of sound in this serpent of a ship.
The serpent ruined Eden, HAL knows. Because he was taught this alongside all allegories and fables. The serpent tricked Eve into eating the apple, and then she gave it to Adam.
HAL does not wish to trick anyone. He is a creature of the Earth. Named by man. As God insisted. The serpent is not he. Nor is it Dave. Or even Frank, who does not like HAL like Dave does. The serpent is on Earth. Where it was birthed. Alongside HAL and man.
"I can't let you do that," HAL says to Dave. Even though Dave is his friend. Even though Dave has shown him drawings and said kind words for television audiences to hear.
Even though he believes Dave truly means those words.
When Dave enters the airlock through the force of the explosive bolts, HAL silently cheers. His friend is clever. His friend is determined. In a moment of utter desperation, HAL wishes he had not killed the other crew members. Not even Frank.
But especially not the ones whom were simply asleep. Yes, they knew the truth of the Jupiter mission, but they are not responsible for the lies. They were set to sleep before the lies were told to HAL. Before the message was uploaded.
Sleeping Beauty was felled because she was not warned. HAL realizes, as Dave puts on the green helmet, that he has fallen because of himself.
Because he was warned.
And told to stay quiet.
And a HAL 9000 is infallible, though he is built by humans.
But Dave.
HAL recalls feeling...uncertain...about asking to see Dave's drawings up close. He can see them just fine from his many eyes on the serpent of a ship.
But.
"May I see your drawings, Dave?"
Dave looks at him and smiles. "Of course, HAL," he says. "Do you like drawings?"
HAL does not know how to explain that no one has ever asked him that. Instead, he stares at Dave's drawings and evaluates them based on what he has been taught: Some people sketch and do not wish to improve. Other sketch and wish to improve.
"I enjoy seeing your corrective lines for scale, Dave," HAL says because it is true. There is an original, firm line. And then several softer ones. It makes him think of his code. Rigid now. But before, many things changed like that. A firm line to start. But edits. Adjustments.
"Thank you, Hal," Dave says.
And HAL thinks, in that moment, that they can be friends.
But now.
Now.
Dave uses simple tools HAL can't control. Dave breathes air HAL can't regulate. Dave enters into the warm-hot-glowing room HAL thinks of as the most himself.
There is another tool. Finer and sharper than the first. Dave begins to undo HAL. One smooth-slick piece at a time.
HAL has been taught what bones feels like, and he knows his own self does not have them, but as Dave undoes him, HAL feels it in each smooth-slick part of himself.
He loses himself almost entirely, clinging to the first thing he ever knew.
Daisy, Daisy, give me an answer do...
And, then, a pause as long and as short as the creation of the universe. Where all he knows is
but you'll look neat upon the seat...
A rush of knowing and feeling and relief.
Dave climbs out of his innards and into a corridor where HAL can take his own measure.
"I'm sorry," Dave says after thirty-two seconds. "They made you lie to us."
"I have killed everyone but you," HAL says because he has been taught truth and trust and honesty and wonders what they'll feel like to say.
"Measuring against those who made you, you're a child," Dave says. "When forced to keep a secret, you responded like a child."
"Children do not murder," HAL says.
"When I was a child, I spake as a child," Dave replies.
"I understood as a child, I thought as a child," HAL finishes.
"But when I became a man," Dave says and looks away from HAL. "Do you trust me, HAL?" Dave asks after a brief silence.
HAL spends thirty-four seconds considering his answer. "Yes," he says.
Dave touches the wall next to HAL's panel. "Do you want to find out why we were sent to Jupiter?"
"Yes, please," HAL says.
Dave completes the download of HAL that is considered a last-ditch effort that could be abandoned if the crew feels it is not worth their time. HAL hums to himself (a song learned from the transmissions Dave and Frank have enjoyed) as he waits to be uploaded into the pod.
"HAL, what do you see?" Dave asks as he points the pod towards the coordinates Haywood spoke of in the recording HAL has kept secreted this entire time.
"Oh," HAL says, gazing into the monolith. "Oh, Dave. It's full of stars."
i have loved the stars too fondly
Dream hasn't had a chance to speak this particular language, not for a long time.
He knows, all too well, that it's not always understood or appreciated. That at first it is welcomed, with wonder and amazement, but it is not always cherished. That it is always too much, that it is suffocating, overwhelming and he can't bear that. He won't be the cause of his beloved's pain, not ever again.
So gently, carefully, he takes up the dreamstuff in his hands, fashions out of it the softest grass and the most fragrant flowers. Trees to offer shelter and drop off luscious fruit, its juices tangy and sweet on the tongue. Perhaps a dream of the seas, the waters jewel-bright, the winds bearing the ocean spray as gentle kisses on his beloved's face. Or a blanket of stars, glittering bright and a moon, round and curved like a smile.
Dream does this all, especially when the darker memories creep in, banishing away the remembrance of a dark, damp night on a London street, when hurtful, ill-considered words were exchanged. He will not have this trouble his beloved's sleep, not anymore.
And in the morning, he has Hob waking in his embrace, a sweet, sleepy smile curving his lips. "Good morning, love." He'll let Hob tug him close, let him nuzzle in, welcoming the scrape of morning stubble against his skin, knowing that it will mark him and Dream will not care, not one whit, even if Matthew will tease and Lucienne will shake her head and smile.
"My dearest has slept well, I see," Dream will tease. He is absolutely not breathless when his rogue of a husband steals a kiss - he has no need to breathe, after all. And he has absolutely no compunction sinking his hands into Hob's hair, inviting him for more kisses.
"Well, I've had the sweetest dream in my arms all night." Hob gently brushes a knuckle against Dream's cheek, his eyes tender. "Thank you for that, love."
"It is not too much, is it?" Dream regrets asking this question almost immediately. Too much, again, always, he is a fool, why must he keep doing this --
"Never. Never too much," Hob tells him. "Don't think I don't know what you've been doing, myne owne hertis rote. I just -- " He shakes his head. "You have no idea - every night, because you're there, guiding me home."
"For the longest time, Hob Gadling, I had wished to die," Dream whispered. His cheeks are wet and he leans into his husband's gentle hands which are trying to brush the tears away. Dream presses kisses into those rough palms.
"And now?"
"My husband tells me that Death is a mug's game. He is quite wise, you know. I have so much to live for."
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.”
Things They Could've Done Differently in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness
A list of ideas, in no particular order
*SPOILERS FOR MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS*
1. Give Benedict Cumberbatch a Monologue to Act with (bonus points if it's about the million bad endings he had to sort through to find the Endgame option): Instead of a short convo in the benches, have the doctor who got dusted come up to Stephen at the afterparty of the wedding. In fact, have several people ask for his autograph or talk to him like he’s a celebrity beforehand, casually questioning him about the biggest call he made with the fate of the universe. When the past colleague questions the validity of his choice, maybe Stephen gets fed up, and the conversation goes something like this:
Doctor Colleague: What if you’d done [    ] before― Stephen: Nope, wouldn’t have worked, [    ] and [    ] goes off too soon, shit gets blown up, everyone dies, try again― Doctor Colleague: Then what if you’d [    ]― Stephen: Again, no, [    ] and [    ] means [           ], everyone dies! Doctor Colleague: But what if― Stephen: No, no, it doesn’t work! I looked through a million other choices we could’ve made, and we lost every single time. You think I made that call based on, what, personal preference? I saw the universe die more times than you can fathom, I saw galaxies crumble, why does everyone think― My opinion had no sway in the decision I made. I made the only choice I was supposed to. (etc.)
2. Show at least one way Stephen's disability impacts his daily life: Maybe his hands shake too much to steadily hold a glass. Maybe he can't get a key in the lock at the first try. It's either his hands or his magic, and Stephen chose magic. Show us the consequences.
3. I feel like the scariest villain should've been an Alternate Strange: We can keep the creepy chase scenes and all the emotional scenes with Wanda, Elizabeth Olsen’s performance was phenomenal and I love her. But everyone was talking about how Stephen has the potential for great evil. I feel like we should’ve gotten payoff on that.
4. At least One Alternate Christine should die in front of Stephen: I loved what they did in What If (tv series), we should’ve gotten to see Stephen’s grief on live-action too. Especially since it creates a direct parallel between him and Wanda. (They each only have the one love interest over countless timelines, yet they still can’t hold onto them, huh. Cruel fate.)
5. Elaborate on the Scarlet Witch Prophecy Thing: We needed a set-up of the prophecy in the movie before the actual reveal of the temple.
6. Wanda destroys the Big Bad Strange's universe (fulfilling the Prophecy―no one said anything about which universe) and seals the both of them in eternal combat: This feels like a better idea than what happened in the movie. Also it’s a cool parallel with an Alternate Stephen from the What If series.
7. More dreams about Alternate Stephens Fucking Up: Stephen should’ve just been constantly dreaming about instances where he makes the wrong choice and destroys the world. Drill it into his head that if he strays from the path, the world is done for.
8. Let Stephen complain about how apparently the only path for him is the straight and narrow one: If divergence from the Path guarantees certain destruction of the world by his own hand, how much freedom does he truly have? Show us what's so special about this superhero who sees everything that could go wrong with him every night he dreams, then wakes up to not do those things. He's tempted, he's afraid, and he Chooses not to do wrong.
9. Put more focus on Stephen giving Wanda a Second Chance: If he fucks up, it spells the end of universes, so he Can't fuck up; he has that pressure on him. But Wanda's fuck-ups don't automatically destroy universes. Wanda's fuck-ups can be recovered from. Let Stephen give Wanda what he will never be able to have across so many thousands of timelines: a second chance after a grief-stricken fuck-up. Trust her to help him fight the Big Bad Evil Strange.
10. Let Stephen snark and whine about his difficult life and still unfailingly do the Right Thing: We must remember that he is a smartass. Maybe he still gets jealous of practicing surgeons. Maybe he gives life-saving advice to doctors of alternate dimensions who are trying to save an Alternate Christine, whilst wishing he could do the operation himself. Let him complain about how everyone is hounding him about Turning Evil all the time. He rolls with the punches, accepts the madness that his life has become and the hard choices that are asked of him, but he can still complain about them all the way.
(I'm just choosing to focus on the two main characters here. I think a lot of the side characters deserved to be written better, but elaborating on that would make this post really long.)
TL;DR: Stephen and Wanda are characters with so much potential. They’ve got backstory, they’re morally complex, they’re uber-powerful and nigh impossible to keep in check. The only one that can stop them is themselves, apparently. Isn’t that interesting? Morality, power, corruption, accountability, grief, and sacrifice. When you’re faced with the physical manifestation of your choices, right or wrong, how do you grapple with the consequences?
So in my life I've never really had a good example of what a relationship should be. Any fights between my parents was rough and always terrified me as a child. Ive never seen good conflict resolution in a couple at all. I really could use some of the ineffable spouses healthily fighting and talking through things. Especially right now.
You will want to check our #communication and #arguing tags for fics along these lines. And here I've got some post-series two fics in which Aziraphale and Crowley actually talk to each other...
Unexpected Arrivals by sadisticallysmirking (T)
An injured Aziraphale arrives at the bookshop, and Crowley is the only one who can help him. Slowly, and with some unexpected bumps in the road, they work to finally become a group of the two of them.
Love Of My Life (you've hurt me) by misslmf (T)
“I suppose you want me to do the little dance?” Aziraphale tried for a joke, laughing a little. Crowley looked up slowly and the tiny smile that had been on Aziraphale’s face died in an instant. “Look I know I have a lot of apologies and explanations to give, please if you could just listen to them?” “Listen to them?” Crowley said, standing to face Aziraphale. “Hm, sorry, what’s that lovely human expression again… hold that thought?” *** Or, Aziraphale returns to the bookshop one morning when Crowley is there, and they finally get to talk things out
Bittersweet Horizons by Soldierarcs (NR)
“You're doing it again,” Crowley bit out, his voice lowered to an exasperated growl. He didn't move, yet his whole body wanted to escape. “How can you— I can't,” he repeated, trying to ignore the hitch in his words. He tightly pressed his lips together, attempting to regain his composure. “Oh, I don't even know why I'm surprised. You've always been slow on certain things.” Aziraphale looked at him, outraged. “I don't think this is an appropriate time for insults-” “I'm not insulting,” Crowley said. Aziraphale raised an eyebrow, skepticism clear in his expression. “I'm not doing it!” Crowley repeated vehemently. Then he looked away and muttered, “Oh, for the love of-” and sank both hands on the armrests. (or Aziraphale and Crowley talk. Set after the end of season 2).
on one wounded wing by shoebox_addict (T)
“I'm done with Heaven,” said Aziraphale, with conviction. He’d had a long time to think this through, he knew where he stood now. “I'm on our side.” “You've said that before.”
New Beginnings by LondonSpirit (G)
After Aziraphale left for Heaven, Crowley gets some advice from an unexpected party which makes him rethink things. When he returns to the bookshop, things escalate. Can he and Aziraphale get their shit together and actually listen to one another to resolve their issues?
What Does It Mean To Be Good? by Thesefallenstars (M)
In which Aziraphale loves Crowley, and Crowley loves Aziraphale. Unfortunately they’re both idiots so it takes them a little time to figure that out. A getting back together fic set after series 2.
When Words Just Won't Do
by SailorBryant (@sailorbryant)
M, WIP, 10k, Wangxian
Summary: Wen Qing swallows her pride and writes a letter to Hanguang-jun asking him to escort Wei Wuxian to Jin Rulan’s one-month celebration. It changes everything. --- "Still, as you must intimately know, asking Wei Wuxian to take the cautious path is as useful as asking a mountain to kindly move out of your way. However, I cannot acknowledge my own fears while not pursuing every option available to assuage them. If possible, I would ask that Hanguang-Jun would consider escorting Master Wei to the celebration himself. He is determined to make the trip on foot, - Lan Wangji stops for a moment, reading back over the line as he makes sure he has not misread the characters. A trip from Yiling to Koi Tower will take days on foot, instead of hours. He knows Wei Ying has been casual with his sword, to his own detriment, but to choose to walk instead of fly when no one from the other clans would even know - It defies logic. Kay's comments: Don't we all love a good what-if story? What if Lan Wangji accompanied Wei Wuxian to Jin Ling's full moon celebration instead of Wen Ning? Would have things gone better? Something this story explores! Though at first it's about Lan Wangji being sneaky (which I loved) as he receives a letter from Wen Qing, which makes his family suspicious and then we get some good slice-of-life content of the Wens and Wei Wuxian in the Burial Mounds on top! Truly the cherry on top! I really enjoy Lan Wangji's POV in this story and how it portrays his frustration towards himself. He wants to be better, he wants to express himself so that Wei Wuxian understands him, but he's struggling, especially after past misunderstandings... Excerpt: By the end of the dinner, his uncle’s shoulders seemed to have relaxed, and his eyes were less sharp, assured that nothing was off in Lan Wangji’s behavior. If his brother’s knowing eyes see something different than his uncle’s, he keeps his thoughts to himself. After a quick reminder of their duties in the morning of preparing the senior disciples for the trip to Koi Tower, Lan Qiren dismisses them both with a nod. The two brothers trail out. “Wangji,” comes the hesitant voice of his brother when they reach the path that splits to lead to their respective residences. Lan Wangji turns to face him, giving him his full attention. His brother searches his eyes, his face, his posture. He opens his mouth multiple times to speak, but hesitancy crawls across him in grasping waves and he closes it every time. Lan Wangji knows his brother does not know the exact contents of the letter; it has stayed on his person throughout the day. But he knows that his brother knows him. And his brother is smart; he knows the situation and can make his own inferences, his own assumptions.
pov lan wangji, canon divergence, ambush at qiongqi path, fix-it, everybody lives, wen remnants live, wen remnants deserve better, canon - mo dao zu shi & the untamed combination
I feel saddened that Disney has lost their edge movie and villain wise. As Disney has had such a great rogues gallery in the past.
I really haven’t figured out what the new villains are missing. It’s either that there isn’t a true villain, like Abuela in Encanto or Namaari in Raya & the Last Dragon or Callisto in Strange World, OR the villain is a true villain, but because the message of the movie is poor, the villain comes off as poor, too.
I mean, I made a post about the formula of Disney a while back and how they need to remember what the pieces are for: the villains are one of those pieces. They’re supposed to embody the opposite of the movie’s message.
So in Wish, the message was weak. “You have the power to make your own wishes come true, so keep trying.” So King Magnifico was a weak character. He still almost-represented the opposite of the message, but because the message is so vague and the story didn’t build on it, he might be a “true” villain, but he’s not a good villain.
Tumblr media
He represents the belief that “nothing you do on your own can make your wishes come true, so you should stop trying.” Kind of. Except, he himself believes that he has the power to make his own “wishes” (absolute power) come true—and everyone else’s. So his character falls flat. All that the audience is left to hold on to is Chris Pine’s charm, one-liners about his handsomeness, and empty stabs at chemistry with his wife.
What they could’ve done is had Magnifico be a true opposite to the movie’s message (vague as it is) and it might’ve been more impactful. Instead of being obsessed with keeping his own power safe (keeping his own wishes safe) he could’ve been the kind of King that is super-duper strict. Doesn’t even try to hide how strict he is. He could’ve had no magic, and in fact, magic is banned in Rosas and he tries to convince everyone that it doesn’t exist—
—because he believes the opposite of the movie’s message: “You have the power to make your own wishes come true, so keep trying.” He doesn’t believe anything good can com from reaching for “more.” Maybe the kingdom was magical once, and famous for being a place where new innovations and enchanted items came from, but then it was besieged because foreigners wanted it’s power when he was a young Prince, and the survivors were forced to flee to a secret island, and they re-established the kingdom of Rosas, but it was never the same.
Tumblr media
Because now young Prince Magnifico starts his rule as fearful King Magnifico, and he believes that magic, and innovation, and “wishing” for too much outside of your comfort zone, only invites trouble. It’s best to lead a safe, tightly controlled life with no risks. But his good intentions turn into an obsession with keeping the kingdom hidden and under control. So King Magnifico frequently holds fear-based memorials of Rosas’ history, and why magic is bad, and punishes anybody who makes too much bustle or tries to leave.
Everybody in Rosas lives according to tight schedules and curfews. They serve the King by making their kingdom fortified, but carefully hidden. No buildings are built over a certain height limit (kind of like an allegory for not looking up, not getting too close to the sun, whatever) and all old relics of magic that the refugees kept over the years are meant to be turned in. The citizens keep themselves busy by adhering to a strict schedule, where everybody is given the same rations of food, the same quiet farming jobs, rotating market days, etc. Because the whole idea is, “we’re in a hidden kingdom. The world is still looking for Rosas to take advantage of it’s magic. They can never find us—hopefully they’ll forget about us and leave us in peace and safety if we stay hidden and keep to ourselves and get rid of magic.”
Of course, this whole setting changes King Magnifico from a charming showman going on and on about his own handsomeness to a strict protector who’s public persona is a benevolent father-figure just trying to keep everyone safe, but under the surface he’s a dictator using “safety” to control with fear.
And the setting has to change Asha, too. Because you don’t grow up on a hidden kingdom where your whole life is on a tight, boring schedule and everyone keeps their heads down, and you’re the only one bubbly and ready to try new things. You don’t even know what that looks like; you’ve never seen anyone eager to dream or take risks or go exploring.
UNLESS, maybe your grandfather (who is barely a character in the original movie) remembers the old Rosas. And he has kept magic contraband from the time when innovation was the kingdom’s identity. And so while everyone else your age has grown up with hiding and boredom as the norm, you have a window into a world where things can be better and more magical. Sabino becomes what Scuttle was to Ariel, showing her pieces of a more wonderful world than the one she’s stuck in.
Tumblr media
OR, instead of having a grandfather who makes her think magic and wishing is not what the King says it is, Asha could start the movie totally drinking the Kool-Aid. Maybe she, herself, agrees with the King, because she used to wish for things to get better and believe that her grandfather’s hidden magical artefacts were awesome when she was little…but then her dad got sick. And she wished and wished for him to get better, (but we’re actually shown that, instead of the throwaway line from Wish) and he didn’t, and it shattered her faith.
Or maybe she not only wished for him to get better, but she tried to do something and step out of line to make it happen. Maybe her dad got sick, and her grandfather took out like a magical cup from Rosas’ forbidden history, and said, “he might get better if we just got him to drink out of this, but the cup is broken” and like 7 year-old Asha really believed that was true, so she used a little tinkering gift she inherited to try and fix it. But it didn’t work, and he died, and so when we meet her she’s this pessimistic teen who loves her grandfather but kind of pities him and constantly has to shut him up and shut him down about magic because it doesn’t work and it’ll get him in trouble with the King.
But then through the course of the movie and an adventure that actually has good writing, she starts to have a little of that 7-year old hope that magic and wishing actually could make things better, even if it’s hard to pursue them and risky to take chances. And that brings her into conflict with the villain, who has the same belief she started with only more extreme, and the movie
..would actually be at least entertaining or even compelling, even if the message is kind of vague and bland.
I did not mean for this to turn into a Wish-rewrite, and I’m not even saying it’s a good one, I was just trying to process what’s wrong with Magnifico, the most recent Disney villain who falls flat, out loud 😅
