"i just want non-queers to just see me as a normal person just like them" cool good for you. meanwhile ive been a weird little freak since i was a kid and the world is gonna have to learn to accept me like i am or ill start burning shit
you can be down for simple assimilation for yourself but many of us just want to be respected as is because theres nothing wrong with being different. especially those of us who are also neurodivergent on top of queer or many other things people often ostracize in society.
if you want other queers to water themselves down or just completely close off parts of their identity and self expression so that you wont be associated with those ~freaks~ and can be more easily accepted by The Normies, then you are not caring about your fellow queers at all.
we arent doing any harm, and we should be pushing for people to accept others no matter how HARMLESSLY strange and unusual they may come across. challenging the norm is the only way to get more people accepted across all communities.

The whole framing of Lestat as the sole symbol of patriarchy that fandom is so desperate to put him in doesn't work unless you deliberately ignore how he was also a victim of rape and abuse before he was turned. People want him to be fit into this strict role of "father figure/violent husband/perpetrator" that is only that and not even a whole person, and in doing so they need to push aside the fact that despite being his family's provider, he was also pushed into that role when his father forbid him from joining a monastery or gaining an education that he wanted. Lestat wanted to run away with a theater group as a kid, and actually managed to do so once Gabrielle gave him her blessing and monetary support in order to go to Paris. He didn't always want to be the provider, he was forced into that role and became despondent when he thought he would never get a chance to leave his home.
His new life prior to being turned is pretty much the antithesis to the whole "Lestat is a manly man who would sooner throw up than be compared to a woman" spiel: he lived with another man in Paris while also being an actor, having left his family and "responsibility" to them. The only family member he was ever close to was his mother, all the other male members shunned or ridiculed him. Add onto that the fact that his turning firmly placed him within the role of the damsel/victim: he's kidnapped from his bed by a stranger, taken into a tower and left to rot while being fed on for a week, before then being raped and violently turned all while never even being asked if he would consent to it in any normal circumstance. But you of course have to ignore all of this if you want him to only represent the aggressor/patriarch while Louis is the helpless unhappy matriarch of the family.
My issue isn't that I think Louis isn't a victim, it's that it's not unrealistic for Lestat to be an aggressor/abuser while also displaying traits that aren't regularly assigned to stereotypical depictions of male characters. He's abusive to Claudia while also having been a victim of abuse from his own family. He's not a good maker/teacher, but he also didn't even have one when he was turned. He's the provider/attempted protector of the family and seemed to like being that, while also having run away from his own family prior to this to act in a theater in Paris. He's a rich white man while also being obviously effeminate in public spaces, even to Tom's own bigoted humor.
Like Louis' own complicated story with being his family's benefactor and provider, you can't firmly place Lestat as being one thing or another in terms of gender ideals without deliberately ignoring parts about him that don't fit this. And I don't think it's an absolute necessity, when even in Louis' own story, Lestat isn't stripped of his effeminate mannerisms or behavior while also being the abusive maker/father/lover.

So, I had an idea and it's making me laugh.
See, a little under half the members of the CATTs likely worked with Lilith Clawthorne during her time as Head Witch of TEC. That's Steve, Darius, Eberwolf and Raine. So now I'm picturing when Steve* escorted Lilith and King to the CATTs rendezvous point, and Lilith reunited with her old colleagues.
Because see, they all spent the last few years with regal, dignified Lilith.
None of them (aside from Steve) have had the chance to see her through her character arc. So imagine the confusion when they expect cold-blooded, cutthroat Head Witch Clawthorne and get our favorite dorky aunt instead. Imagine the confusion.
Lilith: Steve, what's going on? Where are you taking us?
Steve: You'll see. Trust me :)
Lilith: I do trust you, but-
Steve: *pushes aside a curtain to reveal Darius, Eberwolf, and the BATTs*
Lilith: *surprised gasp*
Darius, in typical Darius fashion: Hello, old friend. It's been awhile, hasn't i-
Lilith: *tosses Porta-Hooty to Steve, lunges at Darius and starts beating the shit out of him. Raine and Eberwolf have wisely stepped out of the way*
Darius: *spluttering and attempting to shield himself*
Lilith: You hypocritical little rat! You absolute dickhead! You pretend to kidnap Raine, break my sister's heart, and now you have the nerve to just swoop in here and "Hello, my old friend," me like nothing happened?! Not to mention you completely cut contact with me after- after-
Lilith, now feeling more emotions at once than she has in years: After I defected, and I just never heard from you, any of you, and I thought- I thought that if I reached out, you'd-
Raine, trading incredibly confused glances with Darius and Eber: Uh, Lilith? Are you...alright, or-
Lilith, bursting into tears: NO!!! *throws her arms around Darius and starts sobbing into his shoulder*
Darius, who hasn't seen her cry in at least fifteen years: ?????
Steve, patting Lilith on the shoulder: It's ok, cap. Let it out. *to Darius* She's dealing with a lot today.

2021 cross-stitch piece. I found the two character images online, and unfortunately I don’t know who the pixel artists were.
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is special to me since it’s what got me interested in the Japanese language, which had a massive impact (lol, get it) on my life. I love the character of Impact, the giant roller-skating robot in Edo-period Japan who’s a famous singer in France and a movie star in the US but who still makes time to smash evil when he’s called upon! His theme song just plain makes me happy, and let’s face it, we all need this kind of robust silliness in our lives.
At some point I had the thought that he would absolutely be bros with the King of All Cosmos, and then I realized that no one could stop me from cross-stitching that. So I did.
Making this piece is almost certainly the gayest thing I’ve ever done, and I’ve had sex with other men.
