Flamewarden (Ranger Archetype)
Tumblr media
(art by InterfectorFactory on DeviantArt)
With their purifying flames, goodly nature, and association with sacrifice and rebirth, it’s no wonder that the phoenix is upheld as a favored symbol in many cultures both real and fictional.
Add in the option to learn fiery magic of your own, and of course there would be those who emulate the phoenix directly. While there are certainly phoenix-blooded sorcerers out there, others who wish to emulate the fiery birds must use carefully learned magics to approach a similar level.
Which brings us to today’s subject!
The so-called flamewardens are something of an oddity among rangers, using a natural element that nature mages, even full ones like druids, rarely tap into: fire. However, much like the sacred creature they emulate, they can use their flame to not just harm foes, but to heal others as well.
Indeed, as they grow in power, these rangers become more and more connected to flames in both the aspects of destructive power and purifying life and warmth-giving.
However, they remain warriors of nature, and are not afraid to get into combat to protect the natural world, be it a dry desert or misty mountainous realm.
With an invocation, these rangers can temporarily imbue their weapons with fire. Later on, the enchantment becomes particularly volatile, especially when dealing grievous wounds.
Additionally, they can also learn fire spells commonly seen among druids, though naturally they are limited by the upper limits of their particular path.
It is not just the flames of destruction that they channel, however. With a touch, they can rekindle the spark of a slain person moments after they pass, bringing them back to life.
Later on, they can even draw upon the flames that lick over their form to burn away debilitation, getting them back on their feet. It even works if they have too much resistance to be burned by the flames!
Like the phoenix they emulate, these rangers go up in a ball of flame when they die, potentially taking foes with them. Allies have nothing to fear, however, as the flames are instead soothing and healing to them. However, this immolation utterly destroys their body, requiring the most potent resurrection spells to undo.
However, the true masters of this path will instead rise again moments afterwards, though they can only do so once a week lest they die permanently. What’s more, this level of mastery grants them total immunity to fire, though they can still draw upon the heat to cleanse themselves.
Want a little fire and a little healing with some unique stipulations? This archetype may be for you. For this option, you’ll practically have to load up on a fire resistance or protection spell, lay down persistent fiery area effects, and wade into them with melee combat. Indeed, you should probably focus on a combat style that works with a single melee weapon so you don’t have to spend additional actions bolstering up two weapons. With that being said, the ability to enchant your weapons with fire is probably an adequate replacement for hunter’s bond, if somewhat more situational.
With their connection to phoenixes, it’s interesting to think of what sort of philosophy would arise out of that. After all, the phoenix is used to represent death and renewal, so that gels pretty easily with the cycles of nature, but also with the greater workings of the outer planes. They might favor an afterlife of reincarnation, or they might seek for their deaths to help renew other lives rather than their own.
On the world of Sumvida, fire has be subverted into it’s most foul, corrupt state. Forests and resources are burned to fuel factories that churn out worthless trinkets to keep an increasingly dissatisfied public pacified. However, with the return of the great phoenix Ashmorn, hope arises, her guidance leading to the rise of freedom fighters that channel the pure, renewing flame.
Rumors of a cerulean serpentine being, an imentesh protean, have been circulating, and the phoenix Hanabi has dispatched a group of his wardens to track the creature. However, even they notice something is off, and many wonder if there is some history between their quasi-divine patron and this agent of chaos.
They say that birds arose from mighty predatory dinosaurs large and small. Some suggest that even magical avians like the phoenix also share such common ancestors, perhaps a primeval terror bird of flame that is hard to kill. Most scoff at this, but the Fireplume lizardfolk tribe might be able to shed light on this, their warriors having traditions of gaining blessings of fire and life that eerily mimic that of a phoenix.

Coming back with a vengeance meet my pantheon so far
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fire and Plague aren’t finished yet (or started on hee hee woops) but the last two are done! These guys are the next incarnations of the flight rising gods (or they always were the gods, depending on what lore im fucking with) and they’re varying degrees of good and morally dubious
Their names are the Flamewarden, Hacksister, Wilderprince and Underqueen. It was by pure coincidence that theyre all opposing eachother elementally LOL
The Hacksister and Wilderprince are siblings, Underqueen and Flamewarden are probably like. exes. i dont know
feel free to ask about them! How they fit into my lore as a whole is still being worked on, but I think they function like patrons in DnD

Flamesinger (Windsinger)
Flamekeeper (Gladekeeper)
Flamebringer (Plaguebringer)
Flameweaver (Lightweaver)
No one liked Flameshaker. Flamecatcher, Flamewarden, Flamelord weren’t very good.

In my first playthrough of Pathfinder: Kingmaker (NG Halfling Ranger [Flamewarden]/Rogue [Knife Master]), I’ve made it to the final chapter (”Sound of a Thousand Screams”), and I’ve realized something that I wish I’d known earlier, regarding Amiri.
SPOILER AHEAD
If, in Chapter 5 (”Twice-Born Warlord”), you go after Trisitian (in “Betrayer’s Flight”) before helping Amiri (in “Hour of Rage”), you’ll fail Amiris’ personal quest, which means she’ll abandon you during final battle!

Also if anyone doesn’t mind, I’m looking for an FC on Etoile on Balmung! She’s my Flamewarden Viera with a penchant for arson. It doesn’t need to be an RP FC, but I’d love to dip my toes in!

Moogle for any!!
Moogle: If your character(s) had a mascot, what would it be?
Etoile’s mascot would be a Bomb. Personality-wise she is volatile and quick to explode. She has quite the temper and has no issues unleashing her wrath on those she deems deserving of it. As Flamewarden, she also harnesses the element of fire, much like Bombs seen throughout Eorzea.
Thank you!

Character Ideas for Pathfinder: Kingmaker
Currently playing
Arvur, a NG female Halfling Ranger (Flamewarden)/Rogue (Knife Master), a devotee of Sarenrae.
Karson Zoug, NE human Wizard (Thassilonian Specialist [Greed/Transmutation]), who sees himself as the heir to Karzoug the Claimer, Runelord of Greed.
Semi-Fleshed Out Ideas
[Name], a LG Dwarf Paladin/Sorcerer/Eldritch Knight -- Paladin of Torag, Sorcerer bloodline would either be Celestial, Draconic/Silver, or Elemental/Earth.
[Name], a CG Human Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager)/Cleric of Cayden Cailean (Charm, Strength, or Travel) -- LEEROY JENKINS
Ahdreavia, a CN female Elf Cleric of Calistria (Charm, Luck, or Trickery)/Rogue -- a PF char I’d once tinkered with
Kjell Dinesson, CN Human (or Half-Orc?) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) -- based on a PF character I’d made (a human barbarian infused with troll blood)
Lhuthlilta, CG male Elf Magus (Sword Saint?) -- a PF char I’d once tinkered with
Mailianna, a NE female Half-Elf Cleric of Urgathoa (Death, Magic)/Wizard (Necro)/Mystic Theurge -- Dread Necromancer, envious of elven longevity
Shukuris, a CG or CN Half-Orc Kineticist (Fire) or Sorcerer (Elemental/Fire) -- recreating my very first Pathfinder character.
Tessarda Alagosdae, female Elf Monk/Rogue -- based on the PF character I’d used in a Reign of Winter game (in there she was a Ninja).
Bare Bones Ideas
LE [race] Cleric of Zon-Kuthon/Monk -- Dark Ascetic
L[?] [race] Monk (Scaled Fist)/Sorcerer (Draconic [Blue, Green, Bronze, Gold, or Silver] or Serpentine) -- Scaled Fist uses CHA for Monk stuff
LG [race] Monk (Scaled Fist)/Paladin -- Sacred Fist
[race] Bard (Flame Dancer)/Dragon Disciple (Red) -- Terrifyingly Charismatic
Dwarf Kineticist (Earth), maybe Psychokineticist (Kineticist uses CON, Psychokineticist uses WIS, which are both + for Dwarves)
Gnome Druid (Feyspeaker)/Sorcerer (Fey bloodline)/Mystic Theurge -- both archetypes are CHA casters
Halfling Barbarian/Sorcerer (Dragon/Blue), maybe add some Dragon Disciple or Eldritch Knight -- Athasian Halfling
Human Cleric of Abadar (Nobility, Protection)/Wizard (Scroll Savant)/Mystic Theurge -- “Urban Shaman”
Tiefling Barbarian/Sorcerer/Eldritch Knight
Tiefling Rogue/Sorcerer or Wizard/Arcane Trickster
