“So,” marriage counselor Dr. Jones said as she sat across from Alexander and Sabrina. “I usually ask my clients what brings them here today, but I guess I should be asking what brings me here today.” “Funny,” Alexander muttered. He was totally dreading this, but he desperately needed things to get better between him and his wife. It had been a long time coming, and they needed a resolution. “We’ve been at a crossroads for years,” Sabrina said. “We separated a few years ago, but are back together. It’s been hard, and we’ve been working on getting back to where we once were, but I guess we’re at a standstill.”

“Do you know what the catalyst of your separation was?” Dr. Jones asked. “My mother’s death,” said Alexander. “I guess I fell into a depression and I said some hurtful things.” “You said more than just ‘some’ hurtful things,” said Sabrina.

“Right. We both said things we didn’t mean,” said Alexander. “And after a while, we decided it was just too much to handle together, so we took some space apart,” Sabrina said. “But you found your way back,” Dr. Jones noted.  “Only because our son ran away from home,” Alexander said, the hurt from that day creeping back in. “We had to come together to find him.”

“And you did,” said Dr. Jones with a smile. “You proved to one another that you are capable of working as a team.” “I guess,” said Sabrina. “Not just a guess,” Dr. Jones said. “It’s a fact. Your son was returned safe and sound to his parents, and the two of you were able to reconcile in the moment. Why do you want to get back to where you were?” “We were happier,” said Alexander. “Now it feels like we’re walking on eggshells around each other so we don’t cause another fight.”

“There may be no way for you to ever get back to where you once were,” Dr. Jones said plainly. “I don’t say that for you to be discouraged, but it’s the truth. You both went through something traumatic, both the separation and the disappearance of your son. You’re different now, and that’s ok. The key is to learn how to work within those differences, together.”

Alexander and Sabrina laid on their bed together, exhausted after their first therapy session.  “God, I can’t believe aliens really ran all those tests on Nathan,” Alexander said as he read his cousin’s book. Sabrina said nothing in response, prompting Alexander to place the book on his night table and turn to her. “You ok?” “I am,” Sabrina said with a smile. “I guess I’m just glad to finally be doing this.”

“Doing what?” Alexander asked.  “Getting back on track with you,” she said. “I’ve missed the way things used to be, but maybe Dr. Jones is right. Maybe we’ve gotta learn to be our new selves with each other.” The two smiled and cuddled close. “In that case, I can’t wait to reintroduce myself to you,” Alexander said, kissing his wife’s hands.

The Queen is a 1968 documentary film that follows the drag queen Flawless Sabrina as she struggles to put on a drag pageant. It is a unique film that captures a moment in time: the sixties. The sexual revolution has planted the seeds of what will become the gay rights movement, but before Stonewall.

The Queen actually captures a pivotal moment in drag history. After losing to a waifish blonde girl, Crystal LaBeija throws an epic temper tantrum.

What looks like a moment of pure bitchiness was actually years of pent-up frustration over losing to pretty, skinny, young, and WHITE contestants. In pageants, she was regularly expected to lighten her skin, and was criticized for not masking her "negroid" features.

After losing, Crystal would go on to form the immensely influential House of LaBeija, which is still active today, and then, more importantly, to start organizing balls and pageants that were exclusively for Black and Latinx drag queens. This is the birth of the ballrooms that would create modern drag culture.

She's gorgeous, and mixes humor and class in all of her performances. After the majority of her acting career came to close, she became a UNICEF ambassador.

Jean Seberg (Breathless, Saint Joan)— Some of us watched À bout de souffle as a lil French undergrad and had the trajectory of our lives changed by Jean Seberg. She IS French new wave!! She is the moment!! She sadly had to work with a lot of shitty directors in her career but even so, she has this magnetic energy whenever she’s on screen. In her personal life, she was also very supportive of civil rights causes, and was even targeted/harassed by the FBI for financially supporting the Black Panther Party.

I know people nowadays are probably sick of seeing her with all the beauty and fashion merch around that depicts her and/or Marilyn Monroe but she is considered a classic Hollywood beauty for a reason. Ironically in her day she was more of the alternative beauty when compared to many of her contemporaries. She always came off with such elegance and grace, and she was so charming. Apparently she was a delight to work with considering how many of her co-stars had wonderful things to say about her. Outside of her beauty and acting ability she was immensely kind. She helped raise funds for the Dutch resistance during WWII by putting on underground dance performances as well as volunteering at hospitals and other small things to help the resistance. During her Hollywood career and later years she worked with UNICEF a lot. Just an all around beautiful person both inside and out.

No one could wear clothes in this era like she could. She was every major designer's favorite star and as such her films are time capsules of high fashion at the time. But beyond that, she had such an elegance in her screen presence that belied a broad range of ability. From a naive princess, to a confused widow, to a loving and mischievous daughter, she could play it all.

ESPRESSO - aventurine x reader

- GUYS GUYS QUEEN SABRINA DROPPED A SINGLE i've been listening to this for days and i needed to write about it sooooooooooo yeah! anyways i'll get to writing probably a few requests tomorrow and wednesday (expect 4-5 posts between those days to make up for my absence) and yeahhhhhh enjoy!!

Aventurine doesn’t know what to do when he first figures out that the feeling in his chest whenever he saw you was because he liked you. He probably tried to deny it, until Topaz caught him blushing like crazy after you walked away from the conversation you two had just finished. (Even then, she had to tell him, and then he spent a long time thinking that possibility through. She might have been right). 

You plague his visions. Why does he always want something to do with you? Why does he always want to be in your space, but also never wants to see you again? You’ve noticed his weird behavior, considering you were one of the first people he’s ever genuinely called a friend, but didn’t really think too far into it. 

Though, it didn’t stop you from paying more attention to it, that's for a fact. Sometimes you’d pay more attention to his body movements around you, the way he speaks, his etiquette, etc. You and Topaz communicate through it, and it’s a little bit different from his conversations with her. 

You know he can be cocky. Like, very cocky. You know he’s not too afraid to talk back, to challenge someone to a gamble (spoiler he wins), and to be reckless. Though, you also know about his backstory. So you can kind of understand where he’s coming from. 

He’s been pretty open with you about all of the things he’s endured. You know his real name, he’s described how his family has looked, and he’s described his years he endured slavery and what his home planet was like. You know about the Men in Black and the Katicans. And you know how traumatized he is.

Now, you’ve known him for a long, long time before this. You welcomed him into the IPC when Jade first announced his arrival, and you kind of showed him the ropes. He thought you seemed kind, so he stayed in contact with you.

You’ve watched him change, all of his progress through life, the hard times and the good times, and so much more. And that's what gets him the most, he thinks. 

He never realized how much he trusted you until he realized he liked you. You know every single thing about this man, which was the reason why he was rather… nervous when he’d have to communicate with you face to face. He did a good job at keeping up his front he uses to talk to people, but you sensed a slight form of stress underneath all the layers he put up to look tough. 

He lays awake, thinking about you. You’ve made part of his mind your home, and it’s the part he comes back to over and over again. You replay in his mind like a good song that he can’t get enough of- on, and on, and on, and on. 

He does like to bring you little trinkets he finds pretty when he goes out in public to do some shopping. Considering how wealthy he is, he could probably afford to buy out the whole store, so if you even mention something you like to him, he’s on his way to find it for you. He likes to think of it as he’s buying your kindness, but you think something completely different. You enjoy his sudden gift giving, not just because of your gain, but because he thought about you enough to do such a thing. It always makes you slightly blush before laughing while opening the box presented in front of you. He thinks that's the most precious part about your time spent together; all of the opportunities he gets to listen to your gorgeous laughter and see your flawless smile. Topaz, pinch the man, he’s in his own personal dreampool.

Oh, how bad he wants to confess to you, but he’s really afraid of rejection. He fears losing you entirely, fears that you won’t look at him like you always do if he asked if you two could be a thing. He fears you’d think he was odd for wanting you to himself, and that you’d slowly back away until you refuse to even look at his broken, battered form any longer. The thought makes a shiver crawl up his back. He can’t lose you too. 

All this man asks is to find a way to remove you from his head. You’re absolutely tormenting him! Notice how he’s been lacking on his work lately, always caught in a daze when he’s sitting down at his desk? That’s you he’s daydreaming about. He’s no good with his emotions. He knows how to hide sadness, fear, and anger, but he’s never been in this boat before. Love is a whole new concept to him. 

“Aventurine, you’ve been out of it lately. Tell me, is something the matter?” You barge through the blonde's office, not even bothering to knock. You know you don’t have to, he’s never doing anything so significant in that tiny space that it needs to be kept private.

“What are you saying? Nothings up with me,” he drops his pen in the small plaster pen cup you bought for him. “Work has been tiring lately. Nothing to stress over.” 

You plop into the chair in front of his desk, resting your arms on the top and putting your head in between your palms.

“I can tell when you lie. Tell the truth.”

He looks away. What was he supposed to say? That he couldn’t get you out of his brain, and that you’re the only thing he can focus on? That’ll scare you off for sure!

“Aventurine?? You there?” you wave a hand in front of his face, snapping him out of his daze once more. “You know, you don’t have to lie. I already know what you’re thinking.”

His eyes slightly widen, just enough for you to notice. You giggle very lightly before continuing on with your sentence. “You have a little crush, don’t you? Don’t worry, I like you back. Seriously, I do.”

He doesn’t know how to reply to that. He doesn’t know if he wants to faint or make out with you right now. “So that makes us…?”

“I don’t know. We could remain friends, we could be boyfriend girlfriend, whatever you want. I don’t care.”

Well, he believes he already knows the answer he’s choosing.

You wished you hadn't turned on your phone, wished you hadn't opened Instagram with the intent of capturing the first time you felt a positive emotion after four months of doubting your worth.

That spontaneous happiness, your smile for the festivities, and your outgoing personality were snatched away in a second when you saw that photo on his Instagram. Your finger hovered, filled with sadness, analyzing his facial expression and his enamored gaze.

His lips on her cheek as she laughed, a flawless smile adorning her face with crimson lipstick highlighting her full lips.

You swiftly turned off your phone; you couldn't continue torturing yourself. But your mind denied you that possibility—how could you escape the unbearable alarm that had triggered in your mind? Just when you thought you'd found an exit, it turned out to be an illusion, and you were standing on the edge of the cliff all along.

Ballet au thoughts and ideas

Yes,  they do have a big dance studio and a record player to play some classical vinyl records on a gramophone record player. Most of the music is from Alma’s time, gramophones were invented in 1887 so I think Alma would have one.

Alma isn’t hard on her if Mira makes a mistake. Alma, of all people, knows that mistakes happen and you can’t be mad or upset at them. Just get up and try again. Neither does she tell Mirabel to watch her weight, she’s seen all body types doing ballet back in her day so she would never say anything of the sort. 

She also likes sharing stories of her past ballet experiences with Mira. She does sometimes get a little choked up about it but pushes through to tell the story. 

Also, Alma told her all about the famous stories ballet dancers danced to such as swan lake, the nutcracker, la bayadère, Giselle, and the sugar plum fairy. 

I have a feeling that the sugar plum fairy is her favorite story because 1. It’s a good story and 2. She was in a play about it when she was little. 

And yes, Alma is on a nostalgia kick and pressures Mirabel to do it more. And doing ballet with instruments is not the “perfect” way to go. But I believe Mira isn’t as stressed out as the others, she just feels like she is being a little forced to limit herself (don’t worry, she dances with instruments when Alma isn’t around)

Bruno doesn’t really mind though, he sees a new side to his mother that he rarely ever saw so he’s happy for both of them.

When Mira’s in the mood for it, she’ll do a couple shows inviting the whole village to watch. When it comes to shows, she sometimes does solo ones, shows with alma, or with the village ballet dancers. And if she can, she’ll sing in them, which is 90% of the time. 

Casita often helps with the props or FX just to make things a little more magical, and they're kind of like a built-in stage hand too. 

Angst section, you don't need to take it seriously, but I needed to put these thoughts somewhere:

For angst, everyone thinks Alma’s playing favoritism (like in the werewolf au). But no one talks about it. We all know she isn’t but y’know. 

On top of that, Imagine how flabbergasted the triplets (yes, Bruno stayed) are when they see Alma doing ballet. They do know what it is, they’ve seen the small ballet class in the village. But they didn’t know Alma knew it, you gotta know how hurt they felt knowing that they’re mother didn’t let them know something that their sabrina/daughter knows. 

I would be a little upset, how you gon let my child/niece know something that I never knew about you? And TEACH it to her?! 

Julieta and Pepa however, feel there is some favoritism going on. 

Bruno doesn’t really mind though, he sees a new side to his mother that he rarely ever saw so he’s happy for both of them. 

More angst tehe; for some “odd reason” most of her family, ( except bruno, antonio, luisa, agustin, and felix) can’t come to her shows. They're either “too busy” or “too tired” or “ it’s too loud”. All of those things are lies, of course. Pepa, Julieta, Isabela, Camilo, and Dolores are never that tired, or that busy, and Mirabel made Dolores ear muffs just so she can watch the show. 

You best believe Alma isn’t pleased with this behavior and sometimes has to force them to come. 

“You can’t be that tired to miss your prima/daughter/sister’s show. You have missed them for the fifth time and I’m tired of it. I expect you to be there on time or else, and I’m NOT taking no for an answer” 

And of course, they are blown away by Mirabel’s flawless work of ballet. But they won’t admit that they’re too pressed.

Funny little idea. A suggestion. Luisa absolutely ADORES watching Mirabel and loves going to her shows and watching them. Like Luisa is arguably one of, if not the busiest Madrigal, and she still will straight up drop whatever she's doing (or rather finish up whatever she's doing) and go straight to wherever Mirabel's preforming. And if she's doing a public performance in like the plaza or whatever, she'll just. Stand there and watch. She'll have whole donkey's on her shoulder and just stand there and watch.

Luisa ties the ribbons on her shoes so they look like pointe shoe ribbon and. She helps Mirabels tie her bun when she goes to practice. I think Luisa would peek in on Mirabel's practice when she's at Casita.

Lumity Energy: Full love, realistic problems but like not in an abusive way, the only reason these ships aren't giving Percabeth is because the show ruined them, yes that is what I'm going with, No I don't think Lumity is bad the name is just a joke

Alya x Marinette is a goated ship, fight me! "bUt WhAt AbOuT lIlA", everyone is an idiot in those episodes! Forgot Lila and remember that Marinette and Alya have a very supportive relationship that's mutual. Although, I couldn't completely forget about Lila which is why it's down here.

I get what their intention was.

Because there is a lesson to it; sometimes you give someone numerous second chances and even see them progress, only to raise your arms in frustration when you realize they're never going to get out of their self-imposed cycle of vicious intent.

But I find it particularly baffling that Miraculous Ladybug set up what felt like a narrative journey for Chloe's redemption arc and decided that it did not matter, she was always a hopeless cause. For the first two seasons-and-a-half, we've witnessed a fourteen-year-old kid boss her friend, Sabrina, around and attach herself to Adrien, because she's lonely and desperately clings to whatever peer would willingly associate with her. We've seen sincere apologies when pressed against the wall and at least one time (that I can remember) where she did so without requiring a finger-wagging lecture from someone else. We've seen blatant emotional abuse from her mother whose least offense is forgetting her daughter's name.

Chloe is a spoiled kid who has not been taught proper boundaries and social behavior from her parents, causing her to lash out and bully others. But positive reinforcements from her teacher and fellow students reveal a scared girl who is receptive to sincerity and kindness, and in turn, capable of returning equal affections.

It felt natural by season two that she'd get the Bee Miraculous. Though less than graceful and at times, addicted to the fame it gives her, Chloe, more than anything, was just thrilled to work alongside her hero and idol, Ladybug. The same Ladybug whom Chloe dressed up and pretended to be because for all her posturing, Chloe looked up to someone whom she desired to be: beloved, kind, and selfless.

There's no denial that she wanted some of that power and the popularity that came with it, but imagine the validation she must have felt that for once, in spite of her mother's scorn, she was considered exceptional. Don't get me wrong, she needed structure from her parents to be a better person, but the deck was staked against her. And unfortunately, the narrative felt the same.

Now that I've finished season five, the lesson I took from the whole show is that Miraculous Ladybug ends with the idea that redemption and forgiveness is absolutely acceptable and warranted... unless you're Chloe.

You can have a kid who has sabotaged Ladybug and gave the Big Bad the biggest upper hand that he's ever had (giving him nearly all the Miraculous) because he grew up under unique circumstances and wanted more than anything to be normal and accepted.

You can have an unrepentant teenager who lies and manipulates her way into anyone's good grace with nigh flawless success (if we're really going to have one of Marinette's peer who's never going to be anything less than a sociopath, than I thought Lila was meant to serve that role once Chloe grew up; surely, I could not have been the only one who noticed), enough to the point of impossibility (anyone with half a brain should have figured out her bullshit long before the show ended) and constantly earn forgiveness and trust in a vein effort for the plot to make her seem like a mastermind genius.

You can have a widow who has been hurting from the loss of his spouse long enough to cause all the destruction, trauma, and complications throughout Paris for months on end, while treating his son as a doll for him to string around, thinking this is, for all intents and purposes, the best for his future, and still get to reunite with his wife by sacrificing himself whilst refusing Adrien's agency till the very end (it's fucked that Ladybug is alright with keeping Hawkmoth's identity from her boyfriend, let alone the lack of closure he will ever get with his now non-existent father) and get a statue in his honor for "saving the world."

But the abused, asocial, spoiled and bullying child who is clearly acting out from loneliness, rejection, and mistreatment is and will always be irredeemable.

And that's really skewed.
