Wowie first post ^o^

Drawing based on a meme that I made of my OCs August (Left) and Rue (right)

The reason I chose to do these two in particular was because: 1) (Obviously) Because matched well with the theme 2) In the earlier stages of their development, the two used be the same character. As of currently, they are both completely separate characters belonging to separate stories. However, back then Rue was merely a fantasy AU version of August. So I thought it’d be amusing to showcase their current differences lol

Uncomfy evolution fact:

The Lobopodians were primitive arthropod ancestors who resembled velvet worms.

At some point in the Cambrian, a lobopod like this one evolved away its body, retaining only its head. The resulting animal is the tardigrade!

For the last half billion years this disembodied head has been one of the most successful animals on our planet.

Drawing sketches Gus from Cats, original London and original Broadway casting.

Original London Gus gives off a more sickly, fragile look of an elder. The lack of facial hair to me contributes to it, at least going by photos use for references (thanks Cats fandom wiki). Stephen Tate's narrow face shape (unless it's the photo angles) helps also.

Original Broadway Gus has a fuller, wider face. So to me, he appears more of an elder whose old age is getting to him slowly with each passing day. Stephen Hanan having facial hair (unless this Gus has it for his costume design) I think contributes to said thinking.

UPDATE: Now available here. <3

Welp. I inked this whole thing. The whole thing! And then cleaned it up in PS because the black ink background was a bit uneven.

I inked the line work in Micron pen, which is not typical for me. I usually use a pen and nib with india ink, but for this piece I used the Micron pen so I didn't have to deal with getting the ink ready, cleaning a pen after each use, etc. It just made this all go more quickly, and it was so much easier just to sit down and work on it whenever! The black background is india ink, though, applied with a brush.

It's been a while since I've done something so detailed. I learned a lot. It's not perfect and I see things I would change, but it makes me look forward to the next ink project!

I donated some books to the Unique thrift in my neighborhood in Chicago recently and discovered that the record section was hosting Floating Heads Day. Whoever painted or otherwise crafted the appearance of the skin on that Horowitz record, truly understands what it takes to cause nightmares.

I've reached this point in my doll collecting journey where I enjoy having blank floating heads. In the same way many people enjoy having art of plants in their home, I enjoy simply looking at the beautiful sculpts. It's just a more niche version of having statues. I genuinely have no intention of "finishing" these dolls. Maybe I'll get bust pieces for easier display though.
