the thing about chatfics is that I don't dislike them in concept- I actually think the format of a group chat is a very creative and fun one for comedic or storytelling potential- however, almost every one I've tried to read writes every single character with the distinct texting voice of a teenager or maybe 20 something and when you've got middle aged or very offline characters involved that is such an immersion dealbreaker to me

#it's like a constant flood of 'he would not fucking say that' spedran in fanfiction form #im not trying to be pretentious it's just a very specific nitpick I can't handle as a reader 😭 this character would not know what a meme is #I understand writing realistic text-based dialogue in a voice not your own is a whole different beast from spoken tho #especially since a lot of kids writing these probably have way less experience texting with older people than hearing them talk #also I'm only 21 I don't mean to talk down so much lol I hope my tone's not coming off too arrogant

today at church I was chatting to one of our new pastors (been in town since Easter) and she said "this rain is something else, I've been praying about it because I've never felt any rain like it maybe there's something spiritual at work" and like. this is my problem with very pentecostal pentes. because I feel like this is a Prime Case of attributing things to spiritual forces without sufficient information

I fully believe it may be the most rain she's ever felt. It was a lot of rain. But for us? Those of us who've lived here a while? This is the 5th? 6th? very heavy rain event in the last 18 months, not even particularly bad in terms of rainfall, if you want someone to blame it's definitely climate change (and also possibly la nina)(although I was hoping that we would have a dry patch with the switch to el nino and unfortunately, the rain)

#when i say very heavy rain event i mean >100mm in town generally #although whether i remember it or not probably has more to do with whether places flooded or bridges were out #but like. nov 21. march 22. june 22 (? there was one in winter i'm not 100% sure which month). 2 cyclones. the OTHER heavy rain event in fe #AFTER the cyclone. like this event isn't special #of course each event the water table gets higher and higher and the infrastructure gets incrementally worse #so the level of DAMAGE done is not always proportionate to rainfall #idk. like i'm somewhat pentecostal but also sometimes things are just the consequence of our own actions (not dealing with the climate) #i feel like the burden of proof is higher if you want to attribute things to spiritual forces #faith musings #the pastors are lovely don't get me wrong but they are WAY more pente than me
