flowers in indian culture.

- flowers are widely used as an offering to god, especially in the hindu religion. these flowers are expertly woven into beautiful garlands by flower vendors. you see, these flower vendors are not talked about enough. they are usually found in corners of the street and in front of temples, in a space so small you will barely notice them. their fingers weave flowers so quickly and intricately, in different patterns and designs. the art of flower weaving is so underrated.

- in a way, it can be said that garlands are equivalents to flower bouquets. because in india — weddings? garlands. funerals? garlands. congratulations? garlands. this can be observed mainly in the hindu religion.

- as india is modernized upto an extent, there are good sales for florists who fashion flower bouquets, mainly in urban areas. sending flowers to someone, or a bouquet for a wedding present or a congratulatory gift is taking over the country.

- roses, jasmine and other flowers were worn by women on their hair since a long time ago. popular actresses, back in the days, also used to wear flowers in their hair. this practice was very prominent and fashionable once upon a time, but trends change so this tradition is slowly declining.

- roses for love is a universal gesture and india is no different. single red roses are classic for proposals and confessions of secret love and admiration. jasmine flowers are also bought by husbands for their wives as a romantic gesture so they can wear them in their hair.

- flowers are also used during festivals. for example, during onam flowers are used for pookalam (a patterned and colourful arrangement of flowers/floral carpet). they are also widely used in decorations for weddings and other events.
