Conservative “intellectual” Rod Dreher shares a story from his boarding school:
One night after curfew in our dorm, they continued to play with the board to speak to the spirit. At one point, the high school junior who had his hands on the planchette began to thrash around uncontrollably, as if possessed … and the board began to fly around the room. I wasn’t there for it, but I was in a Christian friend’s dorm room when the boys who lived across the hall, who had been in the room, ran into my friend’s room crying and begging him to pray for them.
The most important takeaway from this entire ramble on AI is that some of Dreher’s high school classmates pranked him with a flimsy piece of plastic from a toy store and he is STILL believing it. Fucking hilarious.

3 (feel like this one might take you a while lmao) and 9 👀
OH my god yeah youre right it is gonna take a while lmao
3. How many tattoos i have and what they are:
So to start it off I have 24 in total 🫨I'll just list them off top to bottom haha:
On my neck I have my first ever tattoo which is a ghost I call Tony (like from The Shining lol)
On my left arm I have a a theme of witchy/spooky stuff, which currently has a witch's broomstick, a protection potion bottle, 6 bats flying (this is actually a Stranger Things tattoo* but its on theme haha), a The Tower -tarot card, a scythe made from a bone, and a part of a ouija board tattoo on my palm that continues on my right palm and chest
On my right arm I just kinda do whatever lol so it has the other ouija board tattoo (I have Hello and Goodbye on my palms + a moon and sun), a monstera leaf, a fly agaric mushroom, the heart drawn by Nace, a shoe with flowers sticking out of it, a post stamp (this is a matching tattoo with my bsf), the Punainen Marli carton, a linework portrait of my friends from 2020, a quote from Fantastista** by Käärijä, Redrum in red from The Shining, a quote from Sleeping on Trains by James Marriott*** and a realism piece of The Desperate Man by Gustave Courbet
On my chest I have the planchette you use to move around on a ouija board, and it has an eye where the hole should be to choose a letter/number
Then finally on my legs I have an olive branch under my right knee, "I Love Me" in graffiti font on my ankle, a quote from Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh**** under my left knee, and finally a hand holding the earth on my ankle (this was done on holiday lol don't judge me)
* The bats are what Eddie Munson has tattooed on his arm as well, he's not my fave character but he's the only character with tattoos so I thought it could be fun lol
** The lyrics are "silti tää on niin fantastista"
*** The lyrics are "Fuck being human - switch my blood for kerosene"
**** The quote is "I wish it was always like this. Always summer"
9. Tattoos I want
God there's so many but I have a dream of knuckle tattoos of the phases of the moon, a Tom of Finland tattoo, the nr 20 (it's the amount of words in a quote), and my all time dream is a back tattoo of the painting of the myth of Narcissus (this is such a leo thing ohmygod)

I watched all the available for free “A Haunting” films on Amazon. They’re advertised as Documentaries and I went into it assuming it was basically a Ghost Adventures/Ghost Hunters type show- so, a maybe slightly over sensationalized investigation for entertainment. And boy howdy was that an understatement.
I give the entire series one star. And that one star is for Archer the dog and ONLY Archer the dog who is only there for like 10 minutes in one of the films.

part six: Hey, ghost
T H O S E W H O W A N D E R
pairing: ghost!Felix x human!reader
-> in which, maybe you should have trusted that old realtor who had told you your new apartment was haunted. Lee Felix was bored just simply existing, it was time that he had a little fun tormenting the mortals.
word count: 1k
notes: sorry if this isn't great I was half asleep while writing it 🥴

====================================
Lee Felix wasn't evil or a bad person, he was just extremely bored. That time he had knocked over the large bookshelf and almost flattened you was an accident, he had just overestimated his strength when trying to lob a dusty book at you. It was harmless fun, really. Felix had gotten to know you pretty well in the short time the two of you had known each other, he had no other choice than to observe you as you go about your day.
It felt slightly intrusive, he wouldn't lie but this was his home, you were the one intruding. He saw more or less everything, he would give you your privacy but when you were in the living room it was free reign. He had learnt that you liked to sing, were you good? No, but you would never let that stop you from belting out the lyrics to whatever ballad had played from your speaker. It was painful to hear but at least it provided a bit of humour for Felix, it was like those bad XFactor audition compilations he would always watch but without the judges.
It seemed like it was another night of unwinding after a stressful day delivering pizzas around town until the doorbell rang out. You jumped up to get it with a smile, and Felix couldn't deny that he was intrigued. Felix stayed put in the living room, but a male voice echoed through the hallway, growing closer by the second. He walked in after you, a bottle of liquor in hand and a wary smile on his face. Felix stared at the man who was now taking a seat beside you on the sofa, heart beating wildly in his chest. His eyes were wide as he took in the man who had no idea he was in the same room as him. It was him, why was he here?
"Hyung, please listen to me," Felix cried but he knew there was no use. "Please, Chan," he begged as he stared at Chan who was smiling and laughing at whatever you had just said. Felix's vision became blurry, tears spilling as a flurry of emotions overtook him. He sobbed into his hands but there was no one there to hear him, no one there to console him. He didn't even notice the books that were being hurtled across the room, along with some of your other belongings. When he heard Chan's shout he knew he had lost control, he didn't know why it hurt so much to see him so happy.
When things had gone quiet and no objects were flying toward anyone's heads Felix had known there was something up. The two of you were sitting on your phones, occasionally glancing up and sending secretive looks. When the doorbell rang out for the second time that night and Chan walked in with a ouija board, Felix had rolled his eyes. Were they really this stupid?
You set the ouija board on the coffee table as Chan lit candles around you, telling you that "ghosts love that kind of stuff". You watched with a teasing smile as he excitedly lit each candle.
"Are you ready?" Chan whispered to you when he finally finished lighting candles, he was almost vibrating in anticipation.
"We're not getting any younger," you reply and place your hand down on the wooden planchette, Chan following suit. He took a deep breath as he gave you one final glance, a chance for you to back out but really, it seemed like he was the one who was more hesitant to do this.
"What do we ask?" Chan whispered. When all you gave him was a bored 'I dunno' he huffed. "You go first, ask if there's someone here with us," he guided.
"Hey, ghost. You here?" you call out, earning a light smack from Chan.
"What she meant to say was, are there any spirits in the room with us right now?" Chan corrects. Felix watches the two of you in slight disbelief but he's seen a horror movie or two, he knows how these boards were supposed to work and he was never one to turn down a game. Especially when said game could make you finally realise that he was in fact a ghost and you would finally leave. Felix focused on the planchette, carefully moving it to sit on 'yes'. Chan's eyes widened, fear overtaking his body whereas you let out a small chuckle at your best friend who was putting on the show of his life. Funny, he's normally so bad at lying.
"Do you have a name?" you asked. Chan sent a glare your way but decided not to correct your wording this time. Felix slowly spelt out his name using the board, making sure to drag it out as long as he could to build suspense. It was now your turn for your eyes to widen and your body to freeze up. That name. It wasn't a common name here, what were the chances there were two Felix's in Korea. No, it must be Chan. But why would he ever think of using that name?
"Felix, are you here to hurt us?" Chan questioned, taking over when he sensed your hesitance. The planchette stayed eerily still for a few moments before it moved around the board, ghosting over 'yes' before finally making a stop at 'no'.
"Okay, you had your fun, Chan. I'm done," you mumble, trying to remove your hands from beneath Chan's larger ones but he wouldn't budge.
"Wait!" he exclaimed, holding your hands firmly in place. "We have to say goodbye to close the portal." You had no idea what portal Chan was talking about but you figured it would be easier to leave him be, the faster you had your fingers off this board, the better. "Uh, thank you, Felix. We have to go, goodbye," Chan rushed as he moved your hands around the board, stopping on the 'goodbye' printed on the end of the board. He removed his hands from atop yours and you withdrew yours quickly. It felt like a weight had been lifted off your chest when your fingers slipped away from the wooden board. The two of you sat in silence for a few minutes, collecting your thoughts, and you couldn't help but wonder if that person who had been texting you since the day you had moved into this apartment had actually been telling the truth the whole time.

The Importance of Names.
[EDIT: so this has been in my drafts since like November/December but I reread it and I think it might be worthwhile posting even though most of it just states the obvious. I didn’t write this much just to delete it after a few months!! Maybe the SoBH theorist network™️ can make something out of this that I can’t! Hope it helps]
Okay, so, this is not really a theory but an observation. It comes as no surprise that names are important throughout SoBH (we’ve been trying to put a name to this ghost for nothing short of four months now)
BUT, I was reminded of two particular quotes/snippets from Secrets of Blackthorn Hall and, when I put them next to each other, it really got me thinking.
The first one is this part from Julian’s letter to Magnus:
“Me: ANDMYNAMEISJULIANBLACKTHORN
Well, that got a reaction. As soon as I finished the last “N” the board leapt off the ground and twisted violently around. The planchette went flying and Emma went to go retrieve it from the other end of the room, but then when she came back the board went flying around in the air and, I am sorry to say, we chased it around for probably two full minutes without catching it. Eventually the ghost got bored, I guess, and the Ouija board stopped in midair and shattered into pieces, which fell to the ground. And all the candles went out.”
And the second quote is from Jem’s letter to Emma:
“…show the bartender your family rings. Say the names: Blackthorn. Carstairs. They will matter.”
So, when we all read the first quote, about the ghost’s strong reaction to the Blackthorn name, for the first time, I’d like to think we all assumed it was a negative reaction. Which made sense at the time: because why else would the ghost break the Ouija board in response to Julian’s name??
But now we know, from Jem Carstairs himself, that the Blackthorn family ring and family name is what will grant Julian, specifically, access to the back room of the Devil Tavern. And, of course, the ghost directed them to the Devil Tavern, too.
My question is: if the ghost doesn’t like the Blackthorns or has a vendetta of sorts against them, why would this ghost guide him and Emma to the devil tavern, where he knows that the Blackthorn name will get Julian guaranteed entry into the upstairs/secret room??
The only logical answer is that the reaction wasn’t actually a negative one — we just perceived it as such. Yes, it was a strong reaction, but not necessarily a reaction that was hateful. We need to bear in mind that ghosts can react strongly but not as a result of anger: for example, Livvy has broken windows and plates not out of anger, but out of anguish or pain. Heartache.
Perhaps the ghost doesn’t hate Blackthorns, but was simply stimulated by hearing the name in full. I’m not saying the ghost is definitely a Blackthorn, but I’m not putting it out of the picture (after all, Cassie didn’t say it definitely wasn’t a Blackthorn. She simply said it didn’t have to be.) What I AM saying is that it could be someone who was close with the Blackthorns.
Though my guess is that it has to be a Blackthorn whom we know, who isn’t from TLH, because otherwise it would be a spoiler for CoT which we’ve been promised there is none of. It also can’t be someone we don’t know. I don’t know if this narrows the possibilities down but hey, who knows!
Anyways like I said, this isn’t a theory but more an observation, and me attempting to make sense of everything in my head :)

Ok so I was thinking of what they would do if they were to be ghosts and they find themselves having a crush on the new owner of the place they inhabit--
I think Levi would be a very shy ghost, who was so glad that the previous owners left so he had the entire house for himself. Now he can do anything he wants and be alone and not have to interact with others!! Yay!! Except there's a new owner. I think he would be shyly spying on you, trying to figure out who this new person is and what their intentions are and accidentally dropping stuff as he passes through the house. (He drops a glass on the floor. You scream. He screams. None of you expected it.)
I also think he's so used to grabbing things and misplacing them he wouldn't even realize he is lowkey freaking you out.
He would be so perverted too, if you thought Luci watching you shower was bad wait until you hear about Levi, he's a whole ass freak. He watches you piss 😭😭. He's like "Woah!! That's so cool, I wonder if it's warm! *tries to touch the stream and ends up smearing it all over you/the wall*"
MC: 😑
Okay but when you bring the ouija and try to ask him if he is going to hurt you (you have a feeling he won't but you might as well ask), he's so self conscious!! He's also super ashamed of his freakiness. You ask him if he was who dropped the shampoo. He starts "S-O-R-R-Y. I-M. S-O. G-R-O-S-S-H-J-K-L-U-P-YES-NO-A-B-A-S-K-D-K-L-J..." and next thing you know the ouija is flying outside the window like a goddamn Frisbee. Ghost equivalent of a keysmash.
OMG AND WHAT IF HE DIED IN AN ARCADE. First of all: OOF. Second of all, that would be so funny though. You work the night guard shift an arcade, and you think it's a normal job until every friday at 12 am one of the games starts playing itself. (what is this? FNAF? i know.)
It's the oldest game of the arcade and the one almost nobody plays and it's playing itself almost perfectly, so you think the game is just not functioning anymore. Until you see the game ??? lose ??? on itself ??? and then something is thrown on the floor and you get shivers down your spine, someone screams "FUCK THIS SHIT!". And, oh god, is the game possessed?!
No. Leviathan just ragequits after losing.
Eventually after meeting him he asks you to play the game for him because his fingers are too ghost-like to properly press the buttons!! You make one (1!!) mistake and he's mad at you and you're just like. Bro I just work here😑.
ANYWAY anyway here is page 1/190 of my thoughts.
- ♟💙
ohhh my god if you chose to give me more, I cannot wait for your continued thoughts, because already I'm obsessed.
Levi would be such a shy ghost!!
Every thing he does is a complete accident and he freaks out as much as you do. Like every scare has been wildly unintentional. I'm sure the first few weeks are hard for both of you, as he'll forget you've moved in and just behave as usual. But once he does fully register your presence you're all he thinks about.
Definitely watches you all the time, gets off on stuff that you do, then cries because he's so self deprecating around his perversions. You'd piss and then 5 minutes later there's moaning, and a little later a sobbing sound is coming from one of your empty rooms.. safe to say you're terrified lmao. He'd also try to touch you, but since he's shy and scared his hands feel very soft and light causing you to question if there really were arms wrapping around you or are you going insane.
OBSESSED with Levi keysmashing the Ouija board. It takes forever to get a solid response out of him. He'd be swinging the planchette around wildly and throwing it around the room accidently when he gets too nervous. It'd be far better to have him possess your laptop and talk to him through a google doc or something.
I also love the idea of Levi haunting an arcade. I'm sure he's played every game in there, making the owners go crazy because they think their games are breaking constantly. I think your first experience watching him rage quit would be pretty frightening so imagine you find safety in the bathroom or something, from there you hear things get quiet (when he realizes he's upset you), and eventually you come out of your little safe haven and there's a bunch of stuffed animals from the claw machine where you normally sit as a little apology from Levi 😭💖

Spooky Season Special: Until Dawn (Male Reader x Chris)
Prologue Chapter One Chapter Two
Chapter 3: Isolation
- Eight Hours Until Dawn -
Séances are really not your thing - or at least, not your thing on scary isolated mountains on the anniversary of two tragic deaths of people who would have very good reason to come back as vengeful poltergeists. Seriously, this is exactly the kind of thing that kills people in horror movies!
But then Josh makes you sit down between him and Chris, across from Ashley, and you know that if there's a chance of getting to hold Chris' hand, you're not going anywhere.
"So, it says here that to communicate with the spirit world you must free your mind of all preconceptions, drop all inhibitions, and generally give yourself over entirely to the will of others, sublimating your every desire to the whims of the Spirit-master, which is me-" Chris begins, causing Ash to swat his arm.
"It doesn't say that." she scoffs.
"And all present must remove their garments at my sole discretion." Chris winks.
Tease - "Why so eager, Chris?
Deny - "Come on, it doesn't say that"
You smirk. "Oh? You must really wanna get Josh naked tonight, Chris!"
Ashley giggles, and even Josh smiles as Chris goes bright red. Josh holds up his hands. "Come on, guys, this is serious."
"Oh, shush it, let's try this." Ashley says.
Chris is still attempting to recover. "Uh, right. Uh, Ash, why don't you do the honors?"
"Okay, um... Anyone there? If there is... reveal yourself to us." she stammers, looking around anxiously at the candlelight. You place your fingertips lightly on the planchette, your right hand brushing up against Chris' left.
And then you feel it.
A tug.
The planchette starts to move, and you feel the push and pull, completely independent of you.

P.
"Help?" Ashley yelps, shouting down the cries of shock from around the table. "What does that mean?"
Chris still doesn't look convinced. He glances suspiciously around the table. "Well, we need to know who we have to help."
"Okay. Right. Who are you?" Ashley asks, and almost before she's finished speaking it starts again.
W A R N I N G
"Shit." Josh breathes, and you can't help but agree.
"We need to figure out who's talking to us!" you snap. Some part of you can't help but jump to the idea that it could be Beth... or Hannah.
"Please, tell us who you are."
The planchette practically flies across the board now.
S I S T E R
"Sister. Sister?" Ashley begins to hyperventilate.
"Who's sister?" Josh snarls.
You shoot him a look. "Josh..."
"Fine. Which one is it then?"
You close your eyes.
Beth
Hannah
You hope that it's Beth. You would never blame Hannah for what happened, but it was her who ran out into the cold and took Beth with her. You know you couldn't have stopped Hannah, but you want to apologize for not stopping Beth.
"Beth, is that you?" Ash asks tentatively.
YES
"Oh, god."
You're struck silent by this revelation - it can't be, but it makes so much sense. And then you remember the word. WARNING. But you can't let it go.
"Beth, I'm so sorry for not stopping you. I wish I had done something sooner. I'm so sorry for letting you die." you whisper, and you see Chris and Ashley looking at you in shock.
And then Ashley nods. "We all want to apologize for what happened last year with Hannah, and - oh Beth, please just know we're so sorry!"
"You and Hannah. We're sorry to both of you." Chris chokes out, but then the planchette moves again!
H A N N
"Hannah." Chris finishes and the planchette changes direction.
K I L L
"Killed? What is she talking about, you guys?" Josh whimpers.
"Quick, ask it something else!" Chris yells, and Ashley yelps.
"Uh, okay. Who killed Hannah? Who was it?"
L I B
"Library! There must be something in the library!" Chris yells, but it's moving again!
P R O O
"Proof. There's proof in the library!" Chris finishes again, and then the planchette goes flying, shot into the air right past your face!
"Holy shit. Chris-" Ashley begins, only for Josh to cut her off.
"No. This is bullshit. I don't know if this is some fucked up way of trying to get me to deal with my grief, or-"
"Josh, no - you wanted to use the spirit board and-"
"I don't need this right now! You guys are full of it!"
He stalks off, and Ashley looks after him, hesitating. "Should we go after him?"
Chris shakes his head. "Let's just, ah, give him some time."
Go with Chris
Go after Josh
You groan. You don't want to leave Chris' side, but you already sent one friend away in anger today, and you don't want that to happen again. "You two check out the library. I'm gonna see how Josh is doing."
"Okay. We'll be back soon. Holler if you need us." Chris says softly, squeezing your arm. In any other case, you'd be thrilled.
You try to figure out where Josh could have gone in this huge lodge. It's really kind of annoying how big it is. "Josh? Jo-osh?"
No answer.
You wander around the kitchen, thinking of when you and Beth found Josh and Chris completely drunk.
And then things go terribly wrong.
There's a man walking in - he's wearing overalls that are splattered with what looks like blood, and his mask - an evil grinning face - is horrifying. He tilts his head at you, as if surprised you're there... and lunges!
You jump out of the way, which leaves you a split-second to...
Flee
Fight
You give a piercing scream as you run, not wanting to stay close enough to the man to attack. You charge right past him, but the door behind him is locked.
"Fuck!" you scream, and the man is grabbing you, throwing you over the kitchen counter. You land hard, but there's still time to act...
Flee
Fight
You roar and grab a sauté pan from a hook and bash the masked man upside the head with it. Or, at least, you try. You catch his shoulder with it and run, but he ducks around and punches you. Hard. You crash to the ground, your head cracks against the floor, and your mind goes black.
Butterfly Effect: Josh teased Chris about Ashley; but Chris was not baited; AND Josh was impressed with Y/N’s personality…
Butterfly Effect Update: Ashley discouraged Matt from using the telescope; Y/N did not expose Ashley; Matt didn’t see Mike and Emily flirting; SO Matt did not confront Mike; AND Emily and Jessica fought.
Butterfly Effect: Emily and Jessica fought; Y/N sided with Emily; Y/N felt guilty…
Butterfly Effect: Y/N was caught by the Masked Man...

Pull.
My first for the Phic Phight! 1,685 words.
Danny's been summoned. But not by who you'd expect. In fact, not by an actual person. Prompt by Greyheartwriter.
-----
Danny had been summoned before. Or rather, Phantom has. Usually by Sam, with Tucker occasionally tagging along. Typically when he was grounded. His two best friends always got a kick out of it. Grounded or not, they were going to hang out with their friend, especially when he insisted he should probably stay home “just in case”. He hadn’t gotten caught yet, but there have been a few close calls. Regardless, summoning Phantom was one of the rare moments the trio had to goof off and be regular teenagers. Well, regular enough anyway.
Danny sat with his elbows on the desk, hands gripping his hair in frustration. Falluca had assigned a large problem set to be done overnight. Like Danny didn’t have anything better to do - rest, catch ghosts, nap, hang with his friends, sleep. At 10:30 pm, he was almost done, he was just stuck on this one problem. He thought about calling Sam and asking for help, but he really wanted to try getting this on his own first.
He grabbed his pencil and tried writing out the problem for the 400th time when he felt the pull. “Oh no,” Danny muttered and looked around his room before trying extra hard to focus on his math homework and not the pull. It always failed, but he had been trying to train himself to ignore the pull. “Not. Now.”
Danny put his face closer to his paper and tried to focus, but the pull was getting stronger now. Ugh, why him? Why can’t people summon other ghosts? Well, that could get ugly and dangerous real fast, but come on! He was gonna kill Tucker and Sam. Or maybe…
Maybe his friends were struggling with the same problem as him and they wanted to put all their brain power together. But they could have just called. Regardless, he was still resisting the pull.
The pull was just a feeling of needing to be physically somewhere else. Or it started out that way, anyway. It was like holding your breath and forcing yourself to not hiccup again. You could try to deal with it absentmindedly, but usually it was all you could focus on until you were satisfied. And that’s where Danny was at now, the pull was beginning to consume all of his thoughts, it was beginning to cloud his brain of anything else. He gripped his desk as he felt another strong pull. Whoever was calling him had done it at least 3 times now. Again, Danny tried to focus on his paper.
Another pull, and Danny’s vision became cloudy. He felt anxious. He needed to be somewhere. What about math homework? That was supposed to be his top priority, they had a test on Friday. He gently started shaking as he tried to refrain.
He fell out of his chair at another pull, another call. Fuck it. He couldn’t hold on anymore.
He sighed, took a deep breath, and focused on the pull. He felt immediate relief as he answered. He felt the familiar feeling of following the call, like riding a waterslide or a rollercoaster in the dark. You had no idea where you were going, you couldn’t see anything in front of you. You didn’t know how long the ride would last and you had zero control. You were just being forced in a different direction, sometimes feeling the whiplash of the unexpected.
He could feel his core becoming colder. He felt his transformation into Phantom, and soon enough, the blackness was beginning to fade, and he tried to gather his surroundings. “Sam, Tucker, if it’s you I swear I’m gonna-”
Oh, OH. This was new. Danny didn’t even know that this was possible. He guessed it made sense though. Maybe Ouija boards were like cell phones in the Ghost Zone. Ghosts had to get a hold of each other somehow.
He turned his body as he slowly looked around. He didn’t know this part of the Ghost Zone. He didn’t even see any ghosts around. He started to panic. He didn’t know where he was, or who called him, or if anyone even actually called him at all. Was this some new stupid ghost power he had to learn to controll again? He just figured out how to keep his pants from falling down when he tried to flirt with girls. Not important right now, he reminded himself. He formed a small ectoball of energy in his hand, preparing himself for any attack.
But no attack came. Instead, he just felt a little nudge at his feet. Looking down, he sighed and dropped his ectoball. “Really?” He glanced down at his caller. “First of all, how did you even learn to do that?!”
Headbutting his ankle was the small green fluffball nicknamed Cujo, in his puppy form. To answer Danny’s question, he used his nose to nudge the planchette on the board, moving it around until Danny began to feel the pull again, though this time the pull wasn’t as strong because he was already in his destination.
Danny chuckled and scratched the pup’s ear. “What’s up buddy? I gotta finish my homework.”
Cujo barked and wagged his tail ferociously, sticking his butt up towards the air as he bounced around. Eventually, the dog dragged his squeaky toy towards the halfa and barked again.
“I can’t play! I have to finish my homework so I can try to get a few hours of sleep in a row tonight. Sorry dude, but no.”
The puppy’s excitement level deteriorated quickly. He let out a little whine, and gave Danny his best puppy dog eyes. Danny sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck. Cujo was adamant on playing, that much was clear. He called him 6 times already, what was going to stop the pooch from doing it again until he got what he wanted? Maybe just for a few minutes…
Cujo’s tail began wagging again as he could see Danny caving in. “Alright, alright. I needed a break anyways.” He formed another ectoball and threw it as hard as he could. “Go long, Cuj!” He smiled as the pup darted after the ball at lightning speed and stretched his muscles for the few seconds it took for Cujo to return with the ball. The pup barked excitedly.
Danny smiled, he always wanted a dog anyway. He threw the ball for Cujo for another few minutes, before playing tug of war and teasing the dog with the squeaky toy. “Who’s a good boy?” Danny said in a voice only reserved for Cujo and other animals (except for Sam’s pet snake...he couldn’t use his little baby voice on that thing, it was too weird). He rubbed the dog’s belly, laughing when Cujo’s back leg would twitch in response to the belly rubs.
The phantom yawned as he laid down on the ground next to the pup, using one hand to prop his head up and the other to scratch Cujo’s chin. “I’ll admit, you are making me feel more relaxed.”
Soon enough, Danny was snoozing with the little puppy curled up into his side, snoring softly. Though, the moment of peace didn’t last more than 15 minutes as Danny woke up to the feeling of being pulled again. He groaned, gave Cujo a little kiss on his head, and answered the new call.
Sure enough, he was in the middle of Sam’s room, falling to her rug as he was still too drowsy to make a better landing. He heard Tucker’s laugh and jolted up, shaking the remaining grogginess out of his head. Danny groaned, “what?!”
“Look who woke up on the wrong side of the...rug…” Tucker tried. Danny could feel Sam rolling her eyes as she offered him a hand so he could stand up.
Danny couldn’t help but let out a low growl, “Tucker…”
“We’ve been trying to call you for 25 minutes already! Guess you didn’t have your phone on you. Thank the goddesses for Ouija boards,” Sam stated as she straightened out her skirt.
“Why? What’s wrong? Is there a ghost?” Danny examined her room, making a face at the snake that he swore was glaring at him.
“School starts in 4 minutes, dude,” Tucker explained as he grabbed his backpack.
“You gotta fly us to your house to get your stuff then fly us to school, and maybe we won’t get detention this time,” Sam put her backpack on as well.
“Ah, fuck,” Danny quickly grabbed his friends’ arms and flew as quickly as he could to his room, grabbing his backpack and flying to school. His parents were already in the lab working on stuff, and Danny doubted they even noticed he was missing and almost late for school. A bomb could go off in the town and they would be so immersed in their work that they wouldn’t hear it. His overattentive sister, on the other hand, had apparently been trying to get a hold of him for an hour now, only stopping when Sam texted Jazz that they had Danny with them.
The trio landed in the bush as the first warning bell rang. Danny transformed and they ran into the school together, making it to their homeroom late, but for once luck was on their side as the teacher wasn’t paying attention...her car alarm mysteriously went off.
Danny pulled out his notebook and realized he still had to finish that math problem. Shit.
He turned as Sam tapped his shoulder, handing him her homework. He smiled gratefully.
“Don’t worry, Tucker had to copy mine too. That problem took me 5 hours to solve. You both owe me.”
Danny sighed in relief and nodded. He had 10 minutes to copy this down, and it was two pages long. It should be a crime to assign problems that long. He pulled out his pencil and started scribbling down the solution when he felt it.
Another pull. Damn that dog. No, he loved Cujo. Damn that Ouija board. “Remind me to find Cujo a puppy friend,” the halfa muttered to his friends.

Ectober Day 5: Messages From the Other Side
Read on AO3
Paulina pulled the dusty wooden Ouija board from the age-lined box and delicately set it in its place of honor in the middle of the circle of friends. The floor had been covered with an equally old tablecloth and the open spaces between the A-listers were filled with flickering candles. Danny Phantom’s number one fan was nothing if not thorough. She intended to question the ghosts about the ghostboy with all the proper decorum and style.
The faces around her in the circle were a mixture of fear, eager anticipation, and boredom as she pulled the final piece, the small planchette, from the box. She frowned at Dash whose look of utter apathy threatened to ruin the thrill of the whole event.
“Is there a problem Dash?” she asked sweetly. It was best to approach this positively since Dash was the co-chair of the Phantom Phan Club. Perhaps something else was bothering him - he couldn’t possibly find speaking to ghosts about Danny Phantom boring. If they were lucky, maybe they’d even be able to get in touch with Phantom himself!
“I don’t get why we don’t just go talk to a ghost in person, Pauly. It’s not like we won’t get an opportunity to see one, probably at school next week,” he grumbled. “This is a waste of time anyway, Ouija boards aren’t real.”
Paulina’s mouth fell open in a perfect O. How dare he question her plan to contact some ghosts to find out more about Phantom. She’d even borrowed her abuela’s Ouija board instead of purchasing a new plastic one for authenticity.
“And how are we supposed to get time to talk to a ghost while it’s attacking us at school?” Star quipped, voice dripping with sarcasm. “Should we catch it’s attention before or after it shoots the place up?” Leave it to her best friend to have her back. It brought a smile to face and filled her with renewed confidence.
“Besides,” she added primly, “if we had a chance to talk to a ghost at school, we could just talk to Phantom. I’ve tried and he always disappears as soon as the fight is over.” Paulina stared at Dash, letting her and Star’s words hang in the air until he relented with a resigned “Fine.”
“So, how do we do this?” Kwan interjected to break the tension. He leaned forward over the tablecloth ready for Paulina’s instruction despite the twist of nerves she could read in his shoulders.
Tucking her hair behind her ears and out her line of sight, she joined Kwan in leaning toward the board and lightly rested her fingers on the planchette. “Everyone place your hands here. But be gentle, we don’t want to make it difficult for the spirits to move the planchette across the board.” Five pairs of hands joined hers on the small wooden triangle. “I’ll gently move it in a circle to help us contact a spirit.” As she spoke, she began to nudge the planchette in a clockwise circle around the board. When they reached a steady pace, she continued with her instructions. “Now, we can ask any question we want one at a time. I’ll go first obviously,” she directed.
She cleared her throat and thought of which question to ask first. There were so many things she wanted to know about the ghostboy. Where did he go between ghost fights? Did he love her as much as she loved him? How did he die? It probably wasn’t a good idea to ask the last one, ghosts tended to get aggressive when talking about their death.
Maybe it was best to try and direct who they were going to speak to. Maybe they actually could get in touch with Phantom. “May we speak to Phantom?” she asked clearly.
All eyes were riveted to the planchette. Paulina made sure to keep her circular motion steady so she wouldn’t influence it by accident. She wouldn’t give Dash any opportunity to accuse the Ouija board of being fake. After what seemed like ages, the small wooden piece began to drift out of rotation, across the board to the upper left corner.
YES.
The buzz of excitement that ran through the circle was electric. They did it! All of Phantom’s attention to themselves! Dash seemed to have gotten over his earlier skepticism and opened his mouth to ask a question only to be silenced with a sharp look from Paulina. Couldn’t he see that she hadn’t asked a real question yet?
“I’ve wanted to tell you how much I love you for so long, but you always fly off after you save me. I know you must love me too. Will you be my date to the Homecoming Dance?” Dash scoffed and rolled his eyes at her declaration of love. Paulina didn’t let Dash’s reaction ruin her good mood. She watched the Ouija board with bated breath for the inevitable ‘Yes.’
NO.
Paulina was knocked back on her heels with the force of her shock and almost released the planchette. Her dreams of a future with the ghostboy were slipping through her fingers like smoke. It was all she could do not to burst into tears; she couldn’t give Dash the satisfaction. Instead, she sat frozen in silence.
Kwan took advantage of her stunned silence to jump in with a question of his own. He’d always thought Paulina’s romantic obsession with Phantom was weird. “We’re all really big fans, and appreciate all the times you’ve saved us. But I’ve always wondered, why do you protect Amity Park from bad ghosts?”
The planchette slowly drifted across the letters on the board, opting to spell out the answer instead of a simple yes or no. WHO SAYS I’M NOT A BAD GHOST?
“You protect us all the time, especially at school. You’re my hero!” Dash defended. How could his idol think that he was bad? He was the total opposite; why couldn’t he see that?
AH DASH BAXTER, CASPER HIGH’S GREATEST BULLY. I DON’T KNOW WHY I EVER PROTECTED YOU. YOU DON’T DESERVE IT.
Dash froze, heartbroken that Amity Park’s hero thought he wasn’t worth saving. But the more he thought about it, the less it sounded like Phantom. He’d spent a whole day with him that time they were stuck being tiny at Fenton’s house. “That’s not Phantom! He’d never say something like that,” he yelled, startling several of his friends around the circle including Paulina.
Dash’s outburst jerked Paulina out of her swirling thoughts and she immediately brightened at the possibility that Phantom could still love her. They were all being lied to by a horrible ghost! “Who are you, really?” she demands.
PHANTOM. JUST, NOT THE ONE YOU KNOW.
The temperature dropped like they were suddenly plunged into an ice bath and all the candles blew out. Someone shrieked in the sudden darkness.
FOOLISH HUMANS, PLAYING WITH FORCES YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. WHEN I FREE MYSELF FROM THIS HORRIBLE PRISON THAT INSUFFERABLE DO-GOODER HAS TRAPPED ME IN, I WILL START MY DESTRUCTION IN AMITY PARK. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THE TERROR IN YOUR EYES AS I RIP YOU APART!
With an ear-splitting scream, Paulina flung the Ouija board away from her and out of the circle. Her hysterical terror was mirrored on all the faces she could see once again as the candle flames re-ignited after the connection was broken. An unspoken pack was made as they stared into each other’s terrified eyes: they would never speak of this or the Ouija board ever again.

Hero’s Journey with the Occult Pt2
This takes place immediately after the first part, so if you haven’t read it go check it out here!!
Hero is frozen. He plays the letters back over and over in his head
H-E-Y H-A-N-D-S-O-M-E There’s no other words that particular chain of letters could create. There’s no two ways about it, that was what the board said.
He heard Mari’s voice in his head saying it, the same joking tone she always took when she teased him.
Hero thought he had forgotten what Mari’s voice sounded like. Now it was playing on loop in his mind over and over.
Nothing had changed in the cemetery, no sudden shift of light or drag of the wind. Yet everything had changed. Hero opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He was frozen, mute, and inexplicably...terrified.
His hands moved again of their own accord, and Hero watched the slow spelling
S-U-R-P-R-I-S-E-D-? There was her voice in his head again, and Hero drank in every word.
Hero managed to whisper out Mari’s name, the planchette flying to the YES inscripted on the board. He let out a long shaking breath and tried to find some steadiness in himself. He knew he should be asking questions, saying something, but he couldn’t. Hero didn’t know what to do. The planchette moved again
M-I-S-S-E-D Y-O-U
“I’m sorry,” The words were out before he could help himself, burning the lump that was settling in his throat, “I’m sorry that I never came before. I should have- I just-” Hero couldn’t find the words to justify his absence, but the planchette was already shifting towards the NO, hovering there for a second before flying around the board once more.
H-E-R-E N-O-W. The guilt that Hero always carried close to his chest eased slightly. He had always felt awful for never coming to her grave, but every time he entered the church, his courage had failed him. Hero spent a lot of time angry at himself, angry because he knew if it had been him, she would have seen him as often as she could.
He should have known his Mari would understand why he stayed away so long.
“A-Are you okay?” Hero asked the air. The question seemed a little silly to ask as he sat by Mari’s gravesite, but the planchette slid to the YES.
He took his hands off the planchette and sat back, staring at her grave. The wind ruffled at his hair ever so slightly. Hero looked at his watch and then looked back at the board
“I’ll be back soon okay?” He put his fingers back on the planchette watching it move
S-U-N-N-Y
Hero waited, but nothing happened. No more letters. Then his hands moved again, faster and with more force. He felt a pressure pushing down on the tips of his fingers
S- U- N- N- Y
“He’s okay Mari,” his fingers spelled out his friends name a third time and Hero released the planchette. He stood up and walked away from the board, getting closer to her headstone
“He’s okay,” Hero repeated, softer this time. There was no answer, there couldn’t be without the board, but a little of the pressure surrounding him eased. Hero turned around and scooped up the board, walking away from....Mari
“I’ll be back soon,” He said again, walking quickly abck to his house and running up the stairs, locking the door to Kel and his bedroom before he collapsed on the ground.
He had spoken to Mari. Mari who was dead. A pit began to form in his stomach as an innocent question formed in his mind
Was Mari supposed to be here anymore?
He didn’t know how she was still here, or for what purpose, but something....something felt wrong. It felt selfish, the same way staying away from her grave had been selfish
Hero stood on wooden legs and went to sit down at his desk, opening his laptop and beginning to search for some answers

I recently visited a temple in Keelung, Taiwan. Inside, I was surprised to find a blue book titled “The Great Sage Equaling Heaven’s True Sutra of Awakening People and Enlightening the World” (Qitian Dasheng xingren jueshi zhenjing, 齊天大聖醒人覺世眞經) (a facsimile is apparently available here). That’s right, it’s a Monkey King sutra! I’ve been told by one informant that they saw it at a temple on “Five Fingers Mountain” (Wuzhi shan, 五指山) in Xinzhu. Also, the linked facsimile is hosted on the website of a temple in Tainan. This shows the sutra is present in both northern and southern Taiwan. Another told me they saw an exact copy in Singapore. The printer (新儷城印刷設計有限公司) is in Taipei. In addition, I’ve been told by a few informants that the sutra is likely the product of the “flying phoenix” (feiluan, 飛鸞), otherwise known as “planchette writing” or “spirit writing” (fuji, 扶乩 / 扶箕).
