The Floating Isles - this is one of the first scenes in my YA fantasy novel “The Heavens Below”! Mira watches the floating islands she grew up on disappear into the distance from the bow of the ship.

Menvala sky-galleys, were probably among the Mafa inventions, that determined the course of planets history for centuries in the future. Originally they were means of transportation, adopted solely by Mafas, who kept the wisdom of creating flying machines in secret. One of the first Menvalas, was Valguros Hintekan – Sunset Bird Shepherd. The only thing which is completely similar in it to the menvalas of the future is the use of the so called “Wind Powder” – a magically charged substance, used to make machines levitate in the air. It was processed in a cunning magical reactor, and than transfered into large balloons. Actually the first menvalas used genetically altered Kananti-flowers which were made growing to the gigantic sizes, so their peels could be used as those balloons – they were much more light weighted than metal, and much harder to break than any fabric. However fabric, usually covered in different patterns, was still used, to cover the peel-balloons.
The reactor also provided the power for the propelling turbines on the sides of the vessel.
Another distinguishing traits of those early menvalas, were their “muscle systems”.
A lot of strings and ropes passed through the wooden hull creating a biomechanical system that made it possible to produce a varied number of movements with the “fins” of the ship, which allowed to direct it to the helmsman’s desired destination…
Originally created for establishing communication between the many Mafa communities, in the Marsian future, menvalas were turned into horrifying war machines, clad in steel armor, and armed with destructive weapons. However the start of the flying ships era, came with the Valguros, gently gliding through the skies surrounded by the slime birds…

Ep 20: Flying Ship
Wherein we get a look at Vash's home in the sky.
I do not understand weather on NML. THERE ARE NO OCEANS. How do you have a typhoon without water? How do you even have oxygen?
...What did Vash do, sick up the transmitter? Or leave his breakfast under the bed? Either way... gross, dude.
--Anime Knives has the simplest motivation of all the Knivy League. He's a dick. No layers, just "fuck those guys."
--Another moment of appreciation for Vash's extreme hotness in his white button-down.
--I'm glad Brad got a redemption in the manga and in Tristamp, and also gets to live. He's kind of a cretin in the anime. He has a reason to be so cranky, but still.
--*gritted teeth* Look, it's Jessica. Hi, Jessica. The fandom loves you so much.
--Jeez louise, WW, clean up your cigarette butts. The shipfolk don't care for you in the first place, and leaving a stinky mess behind isn't going to help. Though with half the ship staring at him like he's an animal in the zoo, perhaps you can't blame him for being a noodge. He's right, though - staying hidden in the clouds won't last forever.
--Leonov is one of the few GHGs who seems to get his job done on a regular basis. How do those puppets work, exactly?
--Doc might know more about Vash than Vash does, if he's been working with and studying Plants for most of his life (on the research side, rather than the lived-experience side, naturally.) It must be a relief to Vash to have someone who understands him on that level, if for no other reason than to take a load off about personal issues now and then.
--Look, it's a new arm, but does it have a secret weapon (lol @effervescible).
--If a way to a man's heart is through his stomach, Jessica does appear to have a leg up on most.
--WW gets his iconic Punisher pose, at last!
--WW is wrong about one thing, though. Vash is afraid of everything. But, he controls and conquers his fear with unshakable resolve. Can you say the same, WW?
--Sunglasses with no eyes. Back to Stampede Mode. (Until Jessica knocks them off. Back off, girl.)
Really the first of a two-parter, so more to come.

Well... that happened.
I was studying some Bob Ross drawings and tutorials, so at, like, 23:00 o'clock I got really motivated to draw. And then I did that until three in the morning.  And I did it again the day after. Did I mention that I'm sick.
Sigh... the lengths we go for the joy of creating another drawing... I really like how this one came out though, I just drew what I felt and somehow this appeared xD

Print Editions of “Animalheads,” “Signals,”  “The Flying Ship,” and “Tomahawk Angel” Announced
Tumblr media
Dark Horse Books and Tapas Entertainment have partnered to bring the Animalheads, Signals, The Flying Ship, and Tomahawk Angel webcomics to print.
Animalheads hails from writer Son M and artist Sam Curtis. “When four best friends enter adulthood with no job prospects and the insatiable pressures of family hanging over them, they get creative—the more dangerous the gig, the richer the reward. What starts off as a part-time venture scaring people quickly spirals out of control, pulling them headfirst into a waking nightmare when they unknowingly cross a violent crime syndicate. Now, their survival is on a knife's edge as they become the newest outfit in the criminal underworld.” (Dark Horse)
Animalheads goes on sale in bookstores on October 10, 2023, and in comic shops on October 11, 2023.
Tumblr media
Signals hails from writer and artist Nika. “Mel Song is an unlikely fit for a crack investigator. In her downtime she loves watching soap operas in her pajamas, eating instant ramen, and internet shopping. But she has one secret weapon: the ability to read minds. Still, Mel can't afford to get complacent. Not when there is a fresh threat brewing in the shadows of New York City...” (Dark Horse)
Signals Vol. 1 goes on sale in bookstores on October 17, 2023, and in comic shops on October 18, 2023.
Tumblr media
The Flying Ship hails from writer and artist Jem Milton. “After being stranded in a forgotten military outpost, grumpy Dobrinia sets out on a quest to marry a princess. But in the vast Tzardom of Glas, where magic has been outlawed, troubled histories can catch up with even a flying ship.” (Dark Horse)
The Flying Ship Vol. 1 goes on sale in bookstores on October 24, 2023, and in comic shops on October 25, 2023.
Tumblr media
Tomahawk Angel hails from Odysseas Theodoratos, aka Mangaka Ody. “In the year 2050, an 18-year-old amnesiac wakes up to a ruined world overrun by monsters. Guided by an artificial superintelligence, a ruthless scientist unleashes hell on Earth to preserve only a fraction of humankind. Love and war await as the mysteries of this corrupt new world unfold!” (Dark Horse)
Tomahawk Angel Vol. 1 goes on sale in bookstores on October 31, 2023, and in comic shops on November 1, 2023.

Belthar is a land of high mountains and green valleys perched atop a planet shard. Rivers reaching the rim fall into the void miles below, forming clouds that rise back up above the land. A secret cavern holds the Belthan war fleet, 30 galleys pulled by blue dragons. (Valerie Valusek, D&D module M1: Into the Maelstrom, TSR, 1985)

Do you remember these brave and hardworking guys from Escaflowne? The jolly and diverse crew of the flying galleon ship the Crusade work as a team to run the ship, fight enemies of Asturia, and support their leader Allen Schezar. They are from the 1996 sword and sorcery anime Vision of Escaflowne.
My original composition made with Picmix features screenshots from the anime.

Christmas gift, but thankfully the recipient does not use Tumblr so I can post it! (Fingers crossed the print comes in time. If not guess it will be a New Years gift instead)
My Papa did a sketch study of a Frank Frazetta painting. That sketch hung up in my childhood home and always captured my imagination. This piece was inspired by my father's work, decided it was time I finally made him a kwardart original.
