Next Gen Fallout 4 Update (PC)
The one good thing is the mod community watched the Skyrim Fishing Update happen so we can kinda prep.
Problem: The next gen update could break your mods.
Solution: Avoid the update and use F4SE.
Go to Steam Library, hit the gear icon on the Fallout 4 page. Properties > Updates > "Only update this game when I launch it."
Ensure you are launching the game via F4SE.
Result: Steam will not download background updates of Fallout 4. F4SE does not boot the game with Steam, so you have successfully bypassed any issue/mod breaking caused by the update.
Why shouldn't I update? Sounds counterintuitive not to update, but mod authors are hobbyists and regular people like you and me; it will take time for authors to "catch up" and release updates.
When to update Fallout 4 on PC again: Up to you. Many people playing Skyrim SE still play on an older version to protect the mods they have, many mod authors have released newer versions of mods to catch up with the update.
New to modding, don't use Vortex/MO2/F4SE, but you are worried about your mods? Now's the time to install F4SE! I'm not affiliated with them, but I can attest The Midnight Ride's recommendations will give you a great basegame vanilla+ experience. If anything, it sets you up with utilities and fixes that you may not already know about.
Other things you can do, not necessary but useful: Update your current modlist! Take the time to ensure things are working. It is better to have things fixed up now and workable than having an updated game and a bunch of mods that suddenly no longer work. Look into using tools like CLAS and xEdit. These can help troubleshoot and resolve conflicts.

Modding Fallout 4 is fun. Whimsical, even. You can turn Boston into a playable YTP. Colonize every inch of the map and drown in eternal settlement help requests. Anime? Hell yeah. Dogmeat becoming a 800 pound gorilla? You bet your sweet bippy you can do it!
But unfortunately it also pretty much requires a computer science degree to understand the crash logs so you can pinpoint what made the game crash for the millionth time.

Found a mod that adds Scribe Haylen as a settler, it makes her available after the Blind Betrayal quest! Which makes perfect sense ofc, she’s not massively into the brotherhood anyway but after what they did with Danse I could see her easily being persuaded to leave them behind to follow wherever Danse went to, or maybe just to join a new group like the Minutemen or Railroad.

Going to play Fallout 4 again with mods. What mods do you like to use?
Ooh! I have a few old favourites that I can reccommend for sure!
All-in-one Settlement Solution/AIO-SS: this one is great if you're the type who just wants to build and not worry about your Settler's needs
it also pairs really nicely with Sim Settlements 2, if you prefer to let your settlers do all the work most of the time. It's highly configurable if you have the Mod Configuration Menu, and it also has its own storyline of quests with fully voiced NPCs and tbh it blends into the world really well!
Speaking of quests and NPCs, you might also want to check out Atomic Radio and Tales From The Commonwealth, which also adds some quests and new companions (Audrey, R4-04, and Birdie who I still haven't met yet) and includes a custom radio station!
And if you get tired of listening to Atomic Radio, there's the Old World Radio mods, which add even more radio stations, some featuring real world audio dramas and some featuring music with their own hosts.
If you want to add some variety to enemy spawns and such, I highly reccomend:
