All the notes/rambles about some of my first clan gen leaders!! They're so dramatic.

Weedstripe / Weedstar

His strange trait made him very silly. He kept falling out of trees.

Actually liked hanging out with Fogpaw because he was very "quiet"

“Hey Fogpaw! Why the long face?”

“It’s nothing.”

“Did you know I caught a huge vole today? And mother said I'm doing amazing for my second hunt! Really, I just saw where the vole was going.” [basically talks for 2 more paragraphs]

“That’s nice.”

His mother, Snapstar, and his overall popularity inflated his ego a bit too much.

Literally became deputy after one moon of becoming a warrior

Unaware of the two siblings that died as kits. No wonder Snapstar cared for him too much.

As a leader, he does make good plans... In concept. They only work based on his perception.

If the rogues valued honor like IrisClan cats, then the peace talk would have been a perfect solution

Overall very outgoing and happy to help

...As long as it’s not too much trouble for him

“Oh, of course I have time for you!”

“You can go speak to Fogtail about it. I’m busy.”

“What? It’s not working? Then you’re doing something wrong.”

OOC Notes

Honestly, started as a joke leader because. Weed.

Then he started making horrible decisions / half the clan started dying

At some point StarClan struck him with lightning TWICE and a bunch of cats were disappointed in him

Fogtail / Fogstar

Cold and angry outside (withdrawn, takes things more seriously than others, will lash out when rage builds)

As an apprentice, he gets fed up with Weedpaw and Snapstar but… Okay. His brother was nice to him. Fogpaw felt guilty about it

Once he’s a warrior (especially deputy), he’s a bit more mature and that’s when he develops closer relationships with his clanmates.

Had an apprentice Heathpaw. She was late-bloomer among the other apprentices, and he could see parts of himself in her. Despite his initial coldness, he was absolutely the best mentor to her. Sadly died to the Rotting

Deep down, cares a lot and knows his clanmates well

He sees battles as part of a warrior’s life, but wishes he didn’t have to cause cats to lose their loved ones.

The start of his leadership was bloody because cats did not trust him after he killed Weedstar.

Goes to StarClan despite that because the morality in these clans are... different. There is a positive perception for killing in battle and technically he fixed a bunch of things during his leadership.

Skyfall: RiverClan Leaders Part 3

Leader of RiverClan during the Song of Stars (I promise I'll post an era-explanation eventually once I've hammered out the details):

Ospreystar (Ospreyclaw) - Took over after Rainstar's untimely death at the claws of Beechstar of SkyClan. He was among the cats to approve Code #8 after Maplestar succeeded Beechstar. The pair worked to repair the rift between their clans.

Fogstar (Fogtail) - Fogstar was leader when Code #9 (deputy must be selected before moonhigh) was introduced. While initially skeptical and worried about the leader rushing the important decision of selecting a deputy, they reluctantly supported the rule.

Reedstar (Reedwhistle) - Reedstar was leader of RiverClan when Ripplestar viciously attacked the other clans during a gathering. Several of his cats were seriously injured in the brief battle and he wholeheartedly supported making the gathering truce a law of the Warrior Code.

Meadowstar (Meadowheart) - Meadowstar came from the unusual position of being a doctor before switching to the protector role and being promoted to deputy of her clan. She was the first leader to have been in a healing role prior to becoming leader.

Ivystar (Ivytwirl) - Ivystar was leader during the creation of the 11th law of the warrior code (protecting kits, regardless of origin). It was introduced by her priest, Graywing.

Talonstar (Talonswoop) - Talonstar supported the 12th law of the warrior code, making the leader's word law. This proved a controversial decision that angered several of his clanmates.

Willowstar (Willowsway) - Willowstar led RiverClan following Talonstar and continued some of his more authoritarian policies. Upon her death, the clan insisted that her deputy, who was deeply unpopular, be removed and replaced with Molefoot, a cat the clan much preferred.

Thrushpelt x bluestar hypokits?

Another three in a litter. This one I think has the highest survival rate of all I’ve done so far.

I was super tempted to just reimagine Stonefur, Mistystar and Mosskit as Thrushpelt’s kits, but eh I kind of felt like that was cheating.

I’m not gonna make a story this time since I’m really drained, but these three can exist alongside the other three as the relatively younger half-siblings. Probably around Longtail’s age perhaps.

Dovebelly likes to harass his sibling Fogtail a lot. And probably picks on Firestar when he joins at first. Fogtail probably followed Longtail in being a butt, but probably ignores Firestar mostly.

Palekit got sick a month or two before apprenticeship, but if he’d survived let’s say he’d be… Palewhisker. It sounds nice.

Once again sorry for no story- just not motivated right now :( which might be clear in the posing a bit. They feel so stiff.

Okay I did some shit with my family tree.

Tiger is now brothers with Leopardstorm (Whitestorm). Thistleclaw is now the son of Pinestar and Shanty, grandson of Oakstar and Cloudberry. Tiger is now also half siblings with Mossthorn (Mosskit) and Fogtail (Longtail).

Fogtail's Challenge

Why should you hold the power of the stars

If you cannot even feel their weight?

Ignoring the looks of his clanmates, the gray tabby brushed past the vines and rushed into the leader’s den. 

“Fogtail?” Weedstar whined. “You know I’m having my alone time…” 

“We need to talk.”

The brown tabby didn’t move from his nest.

“Not now.”

“Weedstar—“

“I said, not now!” The leader bristled, making his scrawny body bigger than it truly was. “Fogtail, you’re more than capable— Wait, what happened to you?”

His whiskers twitched in frustration with the blood trails in his den, but he inspected his brother’s wounds. There were claw marks along his back and his eye… was now gone. 

“The rogues ambushed us! Dappledsky is dead, and we couldn’t even bring her body back!” Fogtail growled, trying to keep his frustration from showing. “This is what I’ve been telling you. Why would they pass the opportunity to attack when our clan’s been dealing with the sickness!?”

Weedstar stayed silent for a moment.

“Well, they clearly breached our agreement,” He sighed. “For now, get yourself patched up and tell her family. I’ll think of a plan.”

“Foxdung, a plan!” Fogtail snapped. “Your solution is always talking and thinking, but you never do anything! Did talking fix the rogues? Did thinking fix the sickness?”

“There’s nothing wrong with peace talks. It’s not my fault that the rogues betrayed us!”

The leader stepped to the exit as he continued.

“And I’ve told everyone to stop catching prey near the river, yet they still end up eating something sick. Why do I have to make the solution to their mousebrained decisions?”

“You think an apprentice can see it?” Fogtail growled. “You think it’s their fault the poison is scentless?”

“Shouldn’t you think you can do something more, Weedstar?”

“Ugh, here we go again. Your apprentice is going to be fine!” He scoffed. “She’s young and she’ll survive. The only ones we’ve lost are old bags of bones. It’ll be fine—”

“You call cats losing their clanmates fine?” Fogtail stepped into Weedstar’s gaze, forcing him to look at his bloodied face. “You call this fine!?”

“Death and injuries are part of a warrior’s life. Stop acting immature and get over yourself.” 

Fogtail’s claws dug deeper into the ground.

“Why are you always—“

“I am the leader. You are the deputy,” Weedstar’s voice lost its smooth and carefree tinge. There was no longer any emotion left. “Now, go see the healer. Let Dappledsky’s family know she died nobly. And get those noon patrols—”

He staggered back, surprised by the blow Fogtail had delivered. 

Fogtail took a deep breath as the cheek of his brother started to bleed. He shouldn’t do this. He had to stay calm. He could stay calm, like all those years ago.

“You…” He shut his eyes. “You never knew what a warrior’s life’s like.”

Weedstar raised a brow as his brother stayed still, not taking the steps to the den’s exit.

“Fogtail,” He sighed. “I’ve been doing everything I can—”

A blur of gray and black crossed his vision. Weedstar found himself being dragged out the leader’s den, and he hit the hard ground below. Surprised gasps and yowls echoed throughout the camp.

“Weedstar,” Fogtail growled from the top of the clan’s hightree. “I’ve had enough of your bullshit!”

“Is Weedstar okay? Where’s Dappledsky?”

“What’s going on?”

“I’m caring for enough sick cats! Why’d you throw him off the tree!?”

The deputy disregarded their whispers and yowls. All he could see was how feeble Weedstar looked.

Was this worthless cat fitting to be called leader? Was this the cat IrisClan looked up to? 

The one mother oh so loved dearly?

“By my right under the skies of StarClan, and for the sake of our clan…”

“Is he…?”

“But Weedstar’s an alrigh—”

“Finally!”

“I challenge you for the leadership of IrisClan!”

The leader’s ears flattened. 

“You…! You can’t do this, Fogtail!” His meow was suddenly laced with fear. “You know I have seven lives—”

The gray tabby didn’t care as he jumped down, coming face to face with his brother. 

“Once the challenge has started, there’s no turning back,” Fogtail growled. “Fight me. Show me what warrior’s life you’ve lived. Show me what mother taught you!”

Weedstar gazed around the camp.

“Isn’t he gonna move?”

“No wonder the rogues attacked us…”

“…Fine! If you die, it’s not my fault. You’re bringing this upon yourself!”

He shook his pelt and leapt at Fogtail. The gray tabby dodged the blow. Ignoring the pain from his slashed shoulder, he pinned Weedstar down and ripped through his throat.

“That quickly..!”

“But he mentioned seven lives. Fogtail isn’t going to last…”

“Are Weedstar’s kits even old enough to be deputy?”

Coughing up the blood from his healed wound, the leader staggered up. His eyes narrowed.

The next lives were all a blur.

The second— Weedstar pinned Fogtail down. A moment of hesitation flashed in the tabby’s eyes. His deputy raked through his belly.

Third— The leader fought harder, giving Fogtail several scratches. He clamped his jaws around Weedstar’s throat.

Fourth— He didn’t let go, but the taste was overwhelming.

Fifth— The blood clung to his fur—

Sixth— Shaking paws—

Seventh—

The last. At last.

Weedstar’s body was covered in red.

The clearing was nearly red.

Utter silence filled the camp.

Everyone was afraid.

Fogtail was… 

Afraid.

Was this really what he wanted..?

If he really didn’t care for Weedstar, why did he spend all that time to help him? To cover for him?

Weedstar wasn’t all that bad. His brother had even made him deputy.

A decision made in rage.

But this time, one he couldn’t take back.

“StarClan has not intervened,” The healer, Rimethorn, snapped Fogtail out of his trance. He stood before the tom, herbs ready. “The moon remains uncovered, and to have had the strength to fight… It is undeniable that Fogtail is IrisClan’s new leader.”

With a nod, Fogtail allowed him to start wrapping his wounds.

“We can’t follow a murderer!”

“Young one, these challenges are nothing new to the history of IrisClan.”

“We needed a strong leader, anyway!”

“I haven’t heard of kin doing it before…”

“Given everything maybe they weren’t true fami—“

“Weedstar may be imperfect, but he treated me like a real brother,” Fogtail’s voice silenced them all. “I’m sure some of us do… care for him deeply. I do not expect you to forgive nor understand my choice. But I will let you know I have done this for the good of the clan.”

The only response from his clanmates was silence. If anyone still disagreed, they didn’t make any moves. Not yet.

“Rimethorn will need to focus on the sick. I will travel to the Moonstone with only… Dogweb and Moonfleck. Until my kin is of age, Gravelpelt will be the acting deputy.”

A spotted blue she-cat stepped forward. Gravelpelt’s expression was stern— even disapproving. But she was one of the few cats he could trust.

And he knew no cat held any malice or grudges against her.

Under the wary gaze of his clanmates, his group departed. 

“…Was it necessary to challenge Weedstar?” Moonfleck meowed softly. The sand-pelted tabby wasn’t afraid, but his green eyes showed concern. “To kill him?”

“…I don’t know.” Fogtail blinked. “I… I just… It’s…”

He stomped through the forest, trying to get rid of his guilt.

“Ugh! Weedstar’s always put so much work on me! Why should he have nine lives when I’m always putting myself on the line!?”

“I had to do it, Moonfleck,” He hissed. “I’ll prove to our clan why.”

“Some of them will put up a fight, Fogtail,” The senior warrior, Dogweb, meowed. “Are you prepared for that?”

“If that’s the cost to be leader, so be it,” Fogtail lashed his tail angrily. “Once we return, do not enter the camp. If I have received my lives, then I should fight.”

stonekit (stoneleap) - gray tom with dark gray flecks on his back, a lighter belly/tailtip, and green eyes

fogkit (fogtail) - pale gray molly with a darker stripe on her forehead, a dark tail, lighter paws/tailtip and blue eyes

brindlekit (brindlewhisker) - gray-brown tortoiseshell cat with a lighter chest/paws/muzzle and green eyes

backstory/au idea under the cut!

canon is pretty much the same up until the end of a shadow in riverclan. this is a minor detail but i headcanon that whitestorm isn't the sire of fern and ash; brindleface had a little fling with a kittypet from twolegplace instead but HEY that's an au for another day

just a note: feathertail is a bi trans girl and ferncloud is a lesbian :)

instead of randomly turning on ferncloud because it's "the right thing to do" to hate your neighbors or w/e. feather actually faked the argument at the border to resolve any suspicion her clanmates might have about her and fern

ferncloud was in on the 'fight' but she's a good actress and everybody buys it

featherfern start meeting up at sunningrocks at night and gradually take the steps from girl friends to girlfriends :)

but whoops! feathertail is getting called to go on the journey to the sun-drown-place. she doesn't tell fern the whole story, mostly because she doesn't really know why she's doing this yet. she just tells her that starclan is calling her and she has to go

fern understands but misses her gf :(

just to clarify, feathercrow isn't a thing. maybe crow had a crush on her after she helped him to warm up to the group but it was probably short-lived and definitely one-sided

since they deserve a happy ending (plus i haven't even gotten to the kits yet lmao), feathertail doesn't die saving the tribe! she does hurt one of her back legs pretty badly though, and the travelers have to stay in the mountains longer than they'd like until she's better enough to travel

feather does walk with a limp on that leg for the rest of her life, but she doesn't want to wait in the mountains any longer because she knows the clans must be suffering at home

and they are

in canon, there's a lot around this part of the series where ferndust's kits are pretty much dying left and right. but since ferndust didn't happen in this au, i'm gonna say that dustpelt just. found some orphaned kittens on the edge of thunderclan territory and ferncloud volunteered to take care of them. those kits end up being spiderleg and shrewpaw.

the birchfall/hollykit/larchkit litter doesn't exist in this au whoops

shrewpaw still chases after the pheasant, but dustpelt shoves him out of the way just in time, sacrificing himself. shrew and spider take it really hard bc he was basically their father figure, and fern takes it hard too because dustpelt was not only her uncle but also her friend

the travelers return home and everything proceeds somewhat according to canon (besides the fact that ferndust wasn't a thing and feathertail is still alive)

feathertail is heartbroken when graystripe is taken by the twolegs, but she does believe that if there's a way for him to return to them, then he will. it's just the kind of cat she is

ferncloud is still grieving dustpelt but she's very glad feathertail came back and they spend a lot of time together on the journey to the lake. like. a LOT of time

stormfur does end up staying in the mountains with brook as per canon, not bc feathertail is buried there (she's still alive), but bc he loves brook and the mountains and he never really felt at home in riverclan.

by the time they find their new home, cats are starting to notice that ferncloud is pregnant.

y'know that meeting in the marsh where squirrelflight gets her warrior name? right after, feathertail goes up to leopardstar and tells her to her face that ferncloud is her mate and expecting her kittens. to her Face.

leopard literally stood there and allowed tigerstar to tell stonefur to kill feather and her brother, and she does still feel guilty about that even though they're mostly on a truce. so when feather tells her she wants to join thunderclan to be with fern, she's not really surprised or angry, she just. gives her blessing and lets her go

feathertail and ferncloud tell firestar together. he's impressed by their honesty, plus he's not a little bitch about half-clan relationships. not to mention he'd do anything for graystripe's kits! so he accepts feather into the clan

squirrelflight is probably excited that her time with her friend won't be coming to an end, but brambleclaw is getting into his "hawkfrost isn't evil" phase and they're not real close at this point

fern gives birth a little before sorreltail, and she has three kits: stonekit (named after stonefur, who feather credits with saving her life), fogkit (sorta after mistyfoot, her former mentor, but also cause she just looks like a fogkit lol), and brindlekit (after fern's mom)

featherfern fight like lions to protect the kittens when the badgers attack, and their little family manages to come out intact

stonepaw is apprenticed to cloudtail, fogpaw is apprenticed to thornclaw, and brindlepaw is apprenticed to brightheart!

at this point featherfern is fully open about their relationship for obvious reasons. spiderpaw becomes spiderleg and shrewpaw becomes shrewnose and over time they both come to view feathertail as their mother alongside ferncloud

ferncloud decides to stay in the nursery full time and feather supports her wife <3

as a permaqueen who's raised 2 litters, fern's experienced with kittens and she knows leafpool's pregnant when she sees it. she doesn't call her out though and she doesn't tell anyone, but she's not shocked when feathertail confronts her about it

squirrelflight privately pulled feather aside earlier and told her leaf was pregnant with crowfeather's kittens. she'd volunteered to take them but since she's aroace and not in any relationships the clan might not buy it

feather catches on and tells squirrel she'll tell fern. which she does. after some discussion featherfern agree to raise the kittens

leaf and squirrel return with the kittens on the way back from their 'journey' and say that starclan led them to them so they wouldn't starve/freeze to death. fern immediately tells firestar she'll take them and he figures it was all part of starclan's plan so he buys it

the three grow up knowing that featherfern aren't their bio parents, but they do see them as their moms and they grow up happy and loved

graystripe returns!! woo!!! and he has a new wife

feathertail is thrilled to see her father again and he's thrilled to have grandbabies :)

feather doesn't see millie as her mom and millie doesn't see feather as her daughter, but they generally get along up until briarlight's accident, at which point feather steps in to fill millie's role as a mother figure to her half sister. she also probably knocks some sense into graystripe and he visits briar often

ashfur does threaten to kill holly, lion, and jay in the fire, not because he believes they're squirrelflight's kits, but because she helped rescue them in the first place and she loves them

when the truth comes out about their parentage, they're shocked and hurt that leaf, squirrel, fern, and feather never told them. holly runs away/is presumed dead in the tunnels and featherfern grieve for her.

the foxleap/icecloud litter still happens but probably a little later than in canon! foxleap is dark gray (think gray fox instead of red!) and icecloud is super pale gray

since birchfall was never born, he and whitewing don't become mates. ashfur starts paying attention to her out of nowhere and unfortunately she's charmed by him. once she finds out he was only trying to make squirrelflight jealous, she drops him like a hot rock. but she's already pregnant with dovewing and ivypool. she raises them without ashfur and only tells her daughters the truth once they're warriors

ferncloud ultimately dies as in canon, defending the nursery from brokenstar :(

feathertail is heartbroken and blames herself for not being there, but she carries on for her kin and her clan

she eventually drowns in bramblestar's storm, helping briarlight escape the camp. silverstream is the one to fetch her to starclan, where she reunites with ferncloud again :)

here's some notes specifically on the hypokits i designed:

stoneleap is a huge ladies' man but for both toms and mollies (he's bisexual)

his mentor was cloudtail and he picks up a lot of cloud's traits, including his religious feelings, though he's probably more agnostic than atheist

he's pretty laid back and chill. i really get a stoner-that-skips-class-but-still-aces-every-test vibe from him. he follows the warrior code unless he thinks it's dumb (he doesn't attack anyone who obviously crossed the border by accident)

he definitely has a lot of little flings but ends up falling hard for a riverclan molly and leaving thunderclan to be with her. i don't know who the molly is but she's definitely riverclan

mistystar lets him stay because feathertail used to be her apprentice and stoneleap is feather's son. also bc he's a skilled fighter and the clan could use more of those

fogtail is sassy and doesn't take anybody's shit. she's bisexual and grayromantic; i can see her having some flings but she never does take a mate of have kittens

her mentor is thornclaw and she gets her loud mouth from him lmao. she's definitely not afraid to speak her mind at all

she likes to help out in leafpool's den (kinda like brightheart) but never trains as a medic. she's just helping

she and stoneleap bickered a lot as kits but it never really evolved into serious fighting, they just have different personalities that tend to clash sometimes

she follows the code to a T, but when stoneleap goes to riverclan she supports him and doesn't let anybody from anywhere talk shit about him for following his heart

brindlewhisker is born as a molly but later comes out as nonbinary. she uses she/they pronouns and she likes mollies :)

they loved training under brightheart and when it's clear jaypaw isn't going to be her apprentice anymore, they vouch for her mentoring skills. firestar ends up letting brightheart mentor hollypaw due in part to this

they think a lot about the cat they were named for, brindleface, and see her as a role model despite never knowing her in life

she loves flowers but is tragically allergic

not sure if i can see her having kittens, but she slowly falls in love with hazeltail and they become mates later on

Ratstar is the daughter of a clan cat and a loner, hence why she's a lykoi lol. cause of this she's very open minded and accepting. she's always seen having separate clans and borders as rather silly. overall she's very upbeat and welcoming.

Fogtail is a senior warrior and is more old fashioned. he has a very dignified air about him. he's one to go on long boring lectures n stuff. he's fairly respectful though. he'll generally leave you alone if you leave him alone.
