Something we don’t talk enough about is the fact that the folklaw of the paopu fruit isn’t inherently romantic (And before I go any further I want to make clear that this is not trying to discredit ships or claim kairi and sora are not in love. You ship what you ship and I’ll ship what I ship and never the two shall interfere.).
The fact of the matter is, that what we hear about the folk law of the fruit is this:
“If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They’ll remain a part of each others lives no matter what.” - Riku, KH1
NOW! I am aware that within the context of the scene rRku is teasing sora over his crush on Kairi - anyone with eyes could see that. However, despite the obvious romantic ideal of having a shared destiny, it is not a wholly romance based idea.
You could share the fruit with just about anyone you knew if you wanted to be in their lives forever. Say, a best friend or a family member, or a particularly precious family pet.
Anyone you wanted to stay with, you could share one with.
Which raises a question about this mystical fruit. Is it’s sharing symbolic in KH law or is Namora really out here basing the entirety of sora’s connection to his friends on the basis of -what essentially boils down to- a magical star shaped mango?
The way I see it is that Sora’s intention to share the Paopu with Kairi can absolutely be read as romantic. The narrative clues are there, we can see them. However, arguably Sora has just as much reason to share the paopu with all of his friends as he does with her.
His fate is so intrinsically intertwined with that of ventus, Roxas and Xion, That he could share one with them. He has deep connections with Donald and Goofy, that he holds incredibly dear to him. After all his friends are his power, his strength to carry on. So he could share one with them.
He spent so long looking for, finding, loosing, and looking all over again for Riku, that he has every reason to share one with his best friend, even if it simply means never loosing sight of him again.
Sora’s motivations to share one with kairi may stem from romance, but that doesn’t make the law of the fruit specifically romantic.
In a way the paopu fruit is a bit like a pinky swear. It’s a promise to never loose sight of the other person and to share their destiny with the other person.
Perhaps the magic goes simply as deep as the intention of sharing one or the visualisation. Perhaps in simply handing a person the fruit with the intent to share is enough to bind one another.
The only three people that we ever see holding the fruit are Kairi, Sora and Riku. Perhaps that is where the bond starts.
In KH 1 Riku throws the fruit to Sora, who catches it. That is, in itself an act of sharing. In the cave sora draws himself feeding kairi and she then draws herself feeding him. That is an intent to share.
Therefore, by this logic, Sora is inextricably linked to both of them. Because they, all three, passed the fruit/ visualised passing the fruit to another.
And I can hear you say, ah yes, but flo, Riku and Kairi never shared a paopu in any capacity. And, dear reader you’d be right. However, they both shared one in different capacities with Sora, and thus are both linked to him, and by extension each other.
Now, Riku and Kairi are a odd little conundrum that has often bothered me. They are friends, they obviously care for one and other. And in KH1 it’s clear that there’s a little bit of show boating going on between the boys as to who can impress Kairi more.
Its something Naminé plays on in CoM, and it’s obvious that at one point or another, Riku’s priorities were the same as Sora’s. Protect Kairi. Yet, there is an extremely noticeable point at which that changes.
That place being Rikus journey in CoM. It is here that Riku shifts his focus from protecting Kairi to protecting Sora.
There are many reasons and possible theories for this. If your are on this app as frequently as I think you are then you probably know about most of them. So I’m not going to delve too deep into that one.
The point remains though, that Kairi and Riku’s destinies both diverge/ and converge at the same time. On the one hand, they diverge as Riku moves his focus from protecting her and making up for his actions as Ansam’s puppet; while simultaneously converging on one single fixed point that is their only meaningful connection to each other for the entire story.
Sora.
He is what binds them together, he is their destiny and he is what intertwined their destiny’s with each other.
Sora -as mushy as it sounds- is their star shaped fruit. They chose to share the paopu with him and thus inadvertently shared him between them. They both hold a piece of his destiny and his heart. Regardless of what you ship that can’t be denied.
Because the folk law of the paopu fruit is not an inherently romantic.

the kraken
The Kraken is a legendary sea monster from Scandinavian folklore, particularly in Norwegian and Icelandic traditions. While there isn't a specific "folklaw" related to the Kraken, there are many myths and tales that describe this fearsome creature. Here are some key elements of the Kraken legend:
Appearance: The Kraken is often described as a massive sea creature with enormous tentacles. It is said to be so large that it can surface from the depths of the ocean and drag entire ships and their crews beneath the waves. Habitat: The Kraken is believed to dwell in the deep, dark waters of the North Atlantic Ocean, particularly off the coasts of Norway and Iceland. It's known for lurking in the treacherous waters of the Nordic seas. Destruction: The Kraken is said to cause chaos and destruction at sea. It can be summoned by storms or other natural disasters, and its appearance is often considered a bad omen for sailors Origin: The word "Kraken" is thought to have originated from the Old Norse word "kraki," which means "an unhealthy animal" or "twisted." The legend of the Kraken has roots in Norse mythology and may have been influenced by sightings of real marine creatures, such as giant squids Literary References: The Kraken has appeared in various works of literature, including Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and Tennyson's poem "The Kraken." These references have contributed to the enduring popularity of the Kraken in modern culture. Folklore Variations: Different regions have their own variations of sea monster legends, some of which are similar to the Kraken. In some stories, the Kraken is more serpent-like, while in others, it is more like a giant octopus or squid.
While there isn't a specific "folklaw" associated with the Kraken, it has remained a prominent figure in seafaring folklore and continues to capture the imagination as a symbol of the mysterious and dangerous depths of the ocean.

Oh, Lily....
“Steven Universe” was never this magical-space stone version of “Star Wars” you wanted, nor was it ever, ever about “forgiving fascists” or “hugging Nazis!”
You see, “Steven Universe” was always about “learning to loving others and yourself”, “accepting imperfections”, “mending broken family bonds”. True, it’ not perfect (nothing ever is) but overall it’s a beautiful show about love, acceptance and hope.
Yet for you to attack personally attack Rebecca Sugar while calling her-a non-binary, bisexual Jewish woman- “a creep”, “a thoroughly loathsome person” and, worst of all, “a fascist sympathizer”. All because, in spite of all of the openly positive LGTBQ+, PoC representation and diversity, it wasn’t, in your eyes, “perfectly woke enough.” Plus, you were fuming mad that Steven didn’t fight White Diamond a la Luke and Vader.
Let get few things clear:
No, the Diamonds are not “genocidal fascists”, they are metaphorical stand-ins for estranged family members who push away others due to their obsession with perfection and order. Steven was making peace with his distance relatives by loving them so that they, in turn, could learn to love back.
No, Rebecca Sugar didn’t create Stevonnie as excuse to “sexualize kids.” Steven and Connie became Stevonnie as way of exploring their own identities and the world around them.
No, Bismuth was not an “angry, black brute character”, Her anger and vitriol towards the Great Diamond Authority was a metaphor for coping with past trauma and abuse but most of all, her anger was not the “end-all-be-all” of her character. She developed by learning to express herself more better while channelling her energy by using it help others.
And there’s so much more I could say but I’ll leave it here by saying how interesting it is when-for example- “Avatar: The Last Airbender”*, a show created by white guys borrowing from East Asian culture and folklaw, had little to no LGTBQ+ representation yet you give it a flying pass. “Steven Universe”, made a by diverse, multicultural team, was bursting with LGTBQ+ positivity yet you label it as “problematic, crypto-fascist propaganda” because it “didn’t do representation right” i.e. “representation done your way.”
Holding marginalized creators to harsh, unreasonable double standards? Thinking there is only one way to do representation right? *sighs heavily* We are done.  *For the record I also adore ATLA

“Twelfth-century European jurists, in the process of assembling modern legal systems for the emerging states of Western Europe, were thus indebted to canon law as a model. Equally important was the content of canon law, whose scope was so sweeping that it contributed to the development of Western law in such areas as marriage, property, and inheritance. Berman cites "the introduction of rational trial procedures to replace magical mechanical modes of proof by ordeals of fire and water, by battles of champions, and by ritual oaths [all of which had played a central role in Germanic folklaw]; the insistence upon consent as the foundation of marriage and upon wrongful intent as the basis of crime; the development of equity to protect the poor and helpless against the rich and powerful."1”

Carlos: "I like the type of folklaw where you'll have say for example some guy who goes through a trauma at the hands of cruel people who wouldn't accept him cause he's sorta quirky in some way... lets say for example sake he feeds the crows. So the towns people heckle him and dude runs away like- you laugh now, but you won't be laughing when I come back and eat your kids! And from that point on when ever anyone sees crows around they lock up their kids like- oh no! Crows! Dave the birdman is here to eat our kids! And it just goes on in legend forever more even if nobody's kids actually got ate"
"What do we learn from these legends? Don't be a prick! Fuckers wouldn't be dangerous if people had been a little nicer to em!"

The Birth of the Nephilim (Giants) and the fate of their Human Mothers
The Book of Genesis and Apocryphal literature tells us the sons of God (angels) descended to earth in antediluvian (pre-flood) times during the days of Jared (father of Enoch), taking material bodies and human wives who bore them angelic-human offspring who grew into mighty giants known as Nephilim. The Book of Enoch reveals that God caused the great flood in the days of Noah (great grand-child of Enoch) to destroy the Nephilim (giants) and wipe away the corruption the fallen sons of God caused humanity, which included revealing forbidden secrets to their wives. Furthermore after the flood the deceased spirits of the giants became demons bound to the earth, and their human mothers became sirens (female evil spirits).
According to the Ethiopian tradition and text The Kebra Nagast (The Book of the Glory of Kings) the wives of the Watchers (angels) died during child birth being unable to bring forth the over-sized bodies naturally, some of the baby giants died, and others survived by splitting open the stomachs of their mothers coming forth through their navels.
In Jewish Talmudic and Madrash folklaw the human wives of the angels gave birth to many thousands of giant children and some of their wives survived the births, later becoming demons. At first the angels and their wives rejoiced, because these hybrid babies were astoundingly beautiful. But before long their joy turned to horror, when their babies grew into monstrous giants. Other stories say there were much less giants born, who were shining, tall and handsome with extreme strength. And the fallen angels bore children who at birth stood up, spoke the holy language, and danced before them like sheep. These giants had such great appetites that God rained manna on them, so that they might not eat flesh. But the giants rejected the heavenly food in favour of slaughtered animals and human flesh.
~And it came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and they took them wives of all which they chose.
~There were giants (Nephilim) in the earth in those days and also after that when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
-The Book of Genesis
~And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another, 'Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.'
And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells. Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.
~And Uriel said to me, "Here shall stand the angels who have connected themselves with women, and their spirits assuming many different forms are defiling mankind and shall lead them astray into sacrificing to demons as gods, here shall they stand, till the day of the great judgement in which they shall be judged till they are made an end of. And the women also of the angels who went astray shall become sirens.'
-The Book of Enoch
~Let us move to the story of the people of the flood. In those times, the Watchers (angels) came down from the sky and after they took the flesh (or bodies) of men, the madness of sin took hold of them they were expelled from the mysteries they had seen in heaven.
~It is because of them that the earth was flooded. Seven in the heaven and seventy on earth, such were the waterfalls that were opened on those days. The mischievousness was big and it had filled the earth. Great impurity reigned, the animals themselves were gone astray. The father didn’t recognize his son anymore, neither the son would recognize his father; humans were sinning with animals.
-The Book of the Mysteries of the Heavens and the Earth
~And straightway there were given unto them with His word flesh, and blood, and a heart of the children of men. And they were content to leave the height of heaven, and they came down to earth, to the folly of the dancing of the children of Cain with all their work of the artisan, which they had made in the folly of their fornication, and to their singings, which they accompanied with the tambourine, and the flutes, and the pipes, and much shouting, and loud cries of joy and noisy songs. And their daughters were there, and they enjoyed the orgies without shame, for they scented themselves for the men who pleased them, and they lost the balance in their minds. And the men did not restrain themselves for a moment, but they took to wife from among the women those whom they had chosen, and committed sin with them.
~And the daughters of Cain with whom the angels had companied conceived, but they were unable to bring forth their children, and they died. And of the children who were in their wombs some died, and some came forth, having split open the bellies of their mothers they came forth by their navels. And when they were grown up and reached man's estate they became giants, whose height reached unto the clouds.
-The Kebra Nagast
~Rabbi said, 'The angels who fell from their holy place in heaven saw the daughters of the generations of Cain walking about naked, with their eyes painted like harlots, and they went astray after them, and took wives from amongst them, as it is said, "And the sons of Elohim saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all that they chose"
~Rabbi Levi said, 'They bare their sons and increased and multiplied like a great reptile, six children at each birth. In that very hour they stood on their feet, and spoke the holy language, and danced before them like sheep,' as it is said, "They cast their young like sheep, and their children danced"
-The Madrash
~The children they bore were the giants of old, known as the Nefilim, or Fallen Ones. They bore six children at each birth, and in that very hour their offspring stood up, spoke the holy language, and danced before them like sheep. There were said to be sixty in all. These giants had such great appetites that God rained manna on them in many different flavors, so that they might not eat flesh. But the Fallen Ones rejected the manna, slaughtered animals,
and even dined on human flesh. Still others say that the offspring of the fallen angels were tall and handsome, and had greater strength than all the children of men. Because of the heavenly origin of their fathers, they are referred to as “the children of heaven.”
-The Star Madien
~"For many angels of God accompanied with
women, and begat sons that proved unjust, and despisers of all that was good, on account of the confidence they had in their own strength;
for the tradition is, that these men did what resembled the acts of those whom the Grecians call giants."
-Flavius Josephus
~they knew the secrets of [ . . . ] [ . . . si]n was great in the earth [ . . . ] and they killed man [ . . ] [ . . . they begat] giants [ . . . ] everything that the] earth produced [ . . ] the great fish [ . . . ] the sky with all that grew [ . . . fruit of] the earth and all kinds of grain and the trees [ . . . ][ . . . ] beasts and reptiles . . . ~( . . .) your strength ( . . . ) Thereupon Ohya (said) to Hahya (. . . ) Then he answered, It is not for us, but for Azaiel, for he did ( . . . the children of angels are the giants, and they would not let all their poved ones) be neglected ( . . we have) not been cast down you have strength ( . . . ) . Day 7- futakuchi-onna
These guys are pretty cool actually, mawile is based off of them.
They’re a type of yokai. They aren’t necessarily evil either, often their stories involve the punishment of greed (mostly relating to food). As you can see, they often appear as an ordinary woman, however they have a section at the back of their skulls that splits open to allow a second mouth to feed. Apparently they can also manipulate hair as limbs, which I think is pretty neat.

My favourite thing about ‘my tears ricochet’ is that we don’t here the end of ‘stolen lullabies’, because that’s just it. There’re stolen. They have made it so difficult for Taylor to sing old songs, and there was no rythem or reason to it. She just couldn’t sing her songs when it suited them.
It’s probably the hardest part of the song to listen to, but it so so beautiful the way she showed what has been going on.

if we were villains, dead poets society & wine! ☺️
hi olivia! thanks a bunch for sending these!
if we were villains 🎭: are you into theatre? who’s your favourite shakespeare character? would you or do you smoke weed or cigarettes?
i’ve always liked theatre, but never looked beyond school plays until a few months ago; i’m just starting to immerse myself in its world! and of shakespeare’s plays, i’ve only ever read julius caesar, so from that, it’s marcus brutus– i think he’s a very complex character with a fascinating arc. also, i want to try weed (and/or edibles) at least once, but i’m not that interested in cigarettes.
dead poets society 🖋: do you prefer poetry or prose? do you get along with your parents? do you resist authority or do you deal well with it?
i prefer poetry over prose, but not by a large degree– poetry feels more freeing and vivid, for some reason? and i don’t get along with my parents, at least not as much as i want to (it’s just. a Hot Mess™). i typically deal well with authority, almost to a point of blind obedience; but i’m improving and learning to resist when the situation calls for it.
wine 🍷: how far would you go to help yourself? what about to help other people? do you think humans are inherently selfish?
if something is very high stakes for me, as long as i’m not stepping over or hurting other people for it, i can go against my own principles to help myself (it’s not something i’m proud of). on the other hand, i believe i would do everything i can to help the people and/or causes i care about. i think i’m a generally kind person and am willing to go out of my way to help strangers too. also, i do think humans are inherently selfish— but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. i think we’re born with enough of selfishness to help us survive a constantly changing world and it’s instrumental in our growth. it can’t be helped, it’s pure instinct. but as we grow older, there starts adding up a conscious element to it. we’ll think of ourselves, and we’ll think of others— but it’s who you end up making the choice for that actually counts.
