Does anyone else have a hard time taking Baela and Rhaena seriously on that show?
They have no personalities, they barely speak and are overall insignificant. They just stand there.
Wasn’t Baela supposed to have short cropped hair? Wasn’t she supposed to wear pants and act all boyish?
Why is she wearing dresses, acting all proper and her hair is all long? Is there some kind of rule that black women on screen can’t be boyish? Am I missing something?
Instead of catering to “political correctness” and “imposed diversity”, they could have made the effort to actually give them the personalities they were so clearly described to have in the book!

Me: Vibing with a movie adaptation I'm watching purely because it is inaccurate and barely recognizable from the plot of the books.
Movie: Slams the exact same ending as the books into the last part.
Me: "wtf? What was the point of setting up this whole world and plot like a fan fiction if you're just going to cram in the tragic ending? At least commit to the bit."

More fun with German DISCO EYLSIUM: Historical "Strong Names"
Let's take a look at what "strong names" from the Revolution were:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ironhide → Eisenhaut (Iron Skin)
"Ironhide" is clear, "Eisenhaut" (Ironskin) is pretty straightforward, sounds like an RPG skill or a kight's name.
But I *love* the two other ones: "Nimmermüd" and "Faust"!
Undying → Nimmermüd (Never-tired)
"Nimmer" sounds rather old-timey and fairytale-like, and today pretty much only used in the fixed "nie und nimmer" ("never ever!") expression. It evokes the oldschool names of god-fearing Germans, basically first names from the 1700s during lutheranian Pietism (which practically no one nowadays has).
Like "Fürchtegott" (Fear-God) or "Glaubrecht" (Believe-Justice) or "Eckhard" (Hard-Edge).
Nimmermüd, Never-Tired, fits perfectly in that old feeling. Especially with the abbreviation on "müd'", instead of the modern "müde", Never-Tire' being the *very* correct translation then.
Boxer → Faust
"Faust" is probably most known as the play by Goethe, "Faust", about a scientist making a deal with the Devil, after God and the Devil make a bet. He gains a devil companion who grants his every wish, making him pretty much unstoppable (but power doesn't save you from consequences and drama). Highly philosophical and influential for the 16th century, still pretty dope today, I had to read it in school!
But it also straight up means "fist", so there we have it. Boom 👊
Boxer → [Fist] [philosophical] [stronk power]
It's such a straight-forward localisation with a great irl reference, I am honestly shocked how clean it is as translation. Boxer? Faust!
PHILOSOPHICAL FISTICUFFS IN ZE FÄCE, STRONK NAME 👊👊👊

@a-mag-a-day So-
As far as I know, there's no canon answer, and I don't actually know if there's a fanon consensus on this? Or if it's supposed to be obvious and I'm just missing something... I'd love to read any theories y'all have

You ever think about how in both TLT and SOM Percy thinks that someone dies only for them to come back and then TTC hits and people start dying for real.
Like yeah TTC is like the turning point for a lot of things. We get our first deaths, Percy actively chooses the prophecy for himself (even though he doesn't want it, even though it stresses him out so much, he takes the weight of the world once more, this time metaphorically, just to protect Nico from it and I'm-), the gods finally acknowledge Kronos and the coming war etc
But man. I didn't realise how often Percy thought people died even in the first two summers dkdndmdmdn

JUST READ YOUR FUNKY (/POS) BIO AND YOU LIKE GOTHIC LIT TOO?????? YAAYSYAYDUAUAYAYAYSYYAYAYAYY
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YESSS!!! i haven’t read any gothic lit in a WHILE (last one was the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde which i loved and still have brainrot for), but i DID recently read a really good book that was somewhat based on the style of gothic literature!!! it’s called Our Wives Under the Sea and god it is so good. sorry this is gonna be a rant so i’m gonna try to tell you about it without spoilers
reasons you should read it:
1. it starts in the middle and there’s a lot of mystery regarding everything, so if you like a story where you sort of have to figure things out or theorize it’s great.
2. time jumps a lot, mainly reminiscing. It makes for a really interesting development because you see what the two main characters were like before the incident.
3. dark theming with a pinch of what may or may not be considered surrealist or eldritch horror.
4. if you like junji ito, you’ll really love it. it’s like something straight out of one of his books.
5. BODY HORROR. SO MUCH BODY HORROR
6. religious theming and imagery (not the main focus but still very cool)
7. it’s queer! it centers around the relationship of two lesbian women trying to work through each other’s trauma.
8. amazing characters
9. some parts are really unintentionally funny. like really funny. not any of the horror aspects obviously but some other stuff
10. it follows a dual perspective setup.
11. it has a sketchy corporation so i mean that’s always fun.
reasons you may not like it:
1. slow pacing. mainly focuses on the memories of the two characters.
2. bittersweet ending leaning more towards sad.
3. not every question is answered.
4. has very mild mentions of nsfw, they typically don’t last longer than half a page and aren’t detailed.
5. goes heavy on the gore when you hit a certain point
6. has upsetting topics such as suicide, religious hallucinations and guilt, death, animal death, terminal illness, schizophrenia, drowning, extreme isolation, body horror, loss of flesh(?), and i think that’s all.
I would totally recommend it, it’s incredible even if at some points i wasn’t fully engaged. the body horror is delicious if you like that stuff. i actually picked it out because it reminded me of my friend’s (ray) ocs (grenadier and amitie)

I started reading EragonxRed QueenxFrom Blood and Ashx--oh, shit sorry.... 4th Wing today, because everyone in my reading group said I had to, and... I'm 7% of the way through and I'm already so tired. Did no one edit this book? Did no one... read this book out loud?
Me currently finishing chapter 1 and going through the 5 stages of grief because I know this whole experience is going to RUIN my reading for 2024.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, I'm writing a whole ass review that is pretty much line by line my thoughts XD If I make a google doc of it I'll let people read it. Might be more entertain than the book. 🤷🏼‍♀️ plus I'll only put like 0.1%-1/4 of it on Goodreads so think about what you might miss out on (me being upset and cranky and rutheless (((: ) Updating that doc might actually help me get through reading it faster.

i think that the fact that daniel started on the right with claudia’s journal even though Louis by proxy of Armand told him to start on the left—the beginning (“you’re jumping ahead” / “let the tale seduce you)—had a lasting impact on the way he [daniel] viewed claudia and her circumstances. He didn’t start from where she was doomed to this life. The first thing that really impacted him was reading about her feeding off of POWs and recording the experience and he seemed really put off by it, considering the way he says “wow”. it’s definitely giving: I would care about this tragic young life you describe if they weren’t breaking laws and going against my morals and all that. i don’t know that he was going to ever be able to empathize with her. but he definitely took a boohoo you’re doing all these bad things cause your childhood was sad. boohoo approach to learning about her that i think louis wanted to control/avoid going into it. im not really saying anything that hasn’t been touched on i’m sure and not much more to say really just thinking thoughts on yet another rewatch 💭
