PRINCE FONSI DEMANDS PATERNITY TEST
Uh-oh... Is trouble brewing for the soon-to-be husband and wife?
The latest buzz from Selvadorada reveals that not only is Prince Fonsi rethinking the whole wedding thing (which has been "pushed back" at least twice), he also seems to be doubting whether or not he's gonna be a daddy.
Multiple Selvadoradan news outlets reported that Prince Fonsi is unsure whether his fiancée is telling the truth. A source reportedly close to the Prince shares:
"Fonsi, to begin with, agreed to marry Felicity because she claimed she was pregnant. He didn't want to leave his child fatherless, so he stepped up. He was convinced he could fall in love with her eventually, but what was important was he would be there for the baby. Even his brother, the King, advised against it, but Fonsi was adamant. He would be a good dad to his kid.
But then suddenly, shortly after the engagement was announced, Felicity said she wasn't pregnant and that it had been a false positive all along. The King immediately recommended that his brother call off the engagement, but Fonsi thought it would be a huge embarrassment to Felicity and her family to announce it so soon after their engagement was made public. He agreed to announce the end of the engagement a few months after, which was why it was "rescheduled" multiple times.
But lo and behold, Felicity was pregnant again, this time complete with a doctor's note. At first, Fonsi was pleased, but considering recent events plus rumours of Felicity's alleged infidelity, he's now demanding that a paternity test be conducted before any wedding will take place. This has, of course, the full stamp of approval of the King. The King is convinced that something doesn't seem right and the 'math' doesn't quite add up."

The Selvadoradan King, who happens to be Fonsi's older brother, has always been protective of his younger sibling. The source further reveals:
"The King hates this situation. He loves his brother to pieces, but he's just really frustrated that he's once again in trouble. It's not the first time Fonsi has been put in a difficult position because of his impulsive character and hard-headedness. The King acknowledges that his brother's heart is in the right place. Sadly, Prince Fonsi isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, if you know what I mean. That's why His Majesty is always on the lookout for his brother. He can be a little gullible and short-sighted at times. He means well, but I'm afraid he's just not very bright."
Despite the dramatic turn of events in the Fonsi+Felicity saga, it looks like the Prince is putting a brave face. His Royal Highness made a solo engagement today to the Selvadorada Polo Club, and was photographed looking every bit like his jolly and carefree self.
Only time will tell if this royal wedding will take place!

fun facts
when asked how he wrote Despacito, Luis Fonsi said: "I woke up one morning with “Despacito” in my head. It was just that simple and that obvious to me. For some reason, that melodic sequence right there and that word “despacito” just popped into my head. And then the first thing that came together was with that little last chorus about Puerto Rico. It was the rhyme between despacito, Puerto Rico, and “Ay! Bendito,” which is an expression that we say a lot in Puerto Rico. That was like the nucleus of it all. Later on that afternoon I had a writing session with a great friend of mine, a songwriter named Erika Ender. I was like, “Hey, look. I have this idea to do this fun, uptempo song. Let’s write this real sexy lyric around ‘despacito,’ which means slowly. And let’s do this lyric where it’s kinda borderline, maybe even double meaning, but just being really respectful.” And I think we found that happy medium, but everything just revolved around that one word, “despacito""
"Smooth" was originally conceived by Itaal Shur as a song called "Room 17". The lyrics were stripped off and the track was given to Rob Thomas, who re-wrote the lyrics and melody and re-titled it "Smooth", then recorded the song as a demo to play for Santana. After hearing the song, Santana decided to have Thomas record the final version. Rob originally had George Michael in mind to sing the song

It's easier more than ever to see the effects of streaming on the pop charts. As electropop and club music become a distant memory, the pop music of the late 2010's works better with individual listening. As mentioned before, streaming works better for album listening, much more than the iTunes era which encouraged the purchasing of individual songs (which was great for singles artists, but not necessarily for albums). Some artists were able to hack this system. For example, Drake's Views (featured on the previous poll) was notable for having 20 songs on its tracklist -- which is a lot for a pop release. Unlike the iTunes era or even the CD era before, longer albums with shorter songs flourish more in the streaming landscape.
Streaming also helped to continue blurring the line between genres and audiences. Without going too much into it (because this is a topic I could ramble on about endlessly), genres were not handed down to us from Mount Olympus or something. Genre is a tool of marketing, and the lines drawn between them can have a variety of cultural, racial, economic, gender, religious, and other variables between them. These lines were more prominent in previous years before streaming made it easier to access just about every kind of music at once. This is when we start to see the rise of a concept known as the "monogenre". In order to cater to as wide an audience as possible, everything starts to sound like everything. A little rock, a little indie, a little trap, a little tropical house, a little festival EDM. There were also those who criticized the streaming era in how it promotes a more "passive" listening style, since playlists and algorithms could continue playing ad infinitum without the listener needing to seek out new music themselves. While I certainly see the evidence of that on the charts, I don't think this tells the complete story.
As a less cynical counter-argument, streaming has made it easier for listeners to find music that otherwise wouldn't have been marketed to them. I believe that this could be one of the factors behind reggaeton finding a growing audience among English speakers. Obviously reggaeton did not originate this year. The roots of the genre can be traced back to the 1980's in Panama where it would later grow an even larger audience in Puerto Rico. The genre would grow in popularity in the States as well, especially in the early 2000's. But if you weren't paying attention to Spanish language music (and you didn't grow up in the Southwest), it was easy for mainstream audiences to miss it. Reggaeton includes influences from dancehall and hip-hop, so it makes sense that the genre would find a mainstream English-speaking audience when those two genres were also shaping pop music. Because Despacito wasn't just big for a reggaeton song. It wasn't even big for a Latin pop song. Despacito led to Daddy Yankee becoming the sixth most listened-to artist on Spotify in 2017, and led to an influx of Latin and reggaeton artists who were able to cross over without English language remixes. Billboard magazine has an article here about the "Despacito Effect".
