I think Peeta needs to see Katniss eating, after everything they go through. When they’re growing together. He needs to make sure she gets enough. Not in a weird way, just. She was starving for so long and then she would go through periods when she wouldn’t eat and seeing her eat means she’s okay. She’s safe. She’s feeling better. He bakes entirely too many things. Endless cheese buns and sweet rolls and cookies. He gets nervous if she doesn’t finish something(which is rare; it’s not like Katniss to not finish something). When they get the bakery going he brings her back treats while she’s doing the books. If he leaves in the morning without her he writes a note and sticks it under a glass of tea and a plate of cookies. Once the sweet shop comes back he buys her candy all the time. Anything she wants. He is incapable of saying no to her.

Jason gets a weird phone call from Tim.
Prompt: "You owe me." Word Count: 500 Genre: hurt/comfort Characters: Jason & Tim Setting: Minefield AU
🍅
“First of all: you owe me.”
It was a bold way to start a conversation, he’d give Tim that.
“That right,” Jason said, skeptical. He pinched the phone between his ear and shoulder while he laced a boot. “Mind refreshing my memory on how I incurred this particular debt?”
“I convinced Bruce one of his batarangs ricocheted into that nitro, remember? And blew up the evidence incriminating you in that drug ring case?”
Jason chuckled. “Just for the record, I sold them one batch, and it was strategic planning that Bruce went and screwed all to hell.”
“And who made sure he didn’t know that?… Me,” Tim said firmly. “I’m here to collect.”
Jason leaned back on his couch. “This better be good if you’re already this defensive.”
“Well,” Tim started, then stopped.
Jason waited.
Strangled, Tim said, “…One sec,” before a tap and silence.
The screen still showed an active call. Jason put it back to his ear.
A prolonged moment later, Tim came back on mid-throat clearing. “’Kay. So anyway.”
“Did you just put me on hold?”
“So anyway,” Tim repeated. “You know the soup you made? The one you put with the grilled cheeses?”
“Tomato,” Jason supplied. Then, pointedly, “the one I showed you how to make.”
“…Yeah.” Tim cleared his throat again. Another pause. “Actually. On second thought—”
The tap and silence happened without warning this time.
“The hell,” Jason muttered, checking the screen twice to make sure the call hadn’t ended. He got up and pulled his keys off the hook, hovering by his apartment door while he put the call on speaker and pulled up his tracker app. Tim’s dot was at the Manor with Damian’s, which wasn’t that reassuring considering the conversation they’d had last week about fooling trackers.
“…Still there?”
“Are you dying?” Jason demanded. “Because if you are and you didn’t lead with that—”
“I’m fine,” Tim said, sounding not fine. “In fact, I changed my—“
Another tap and silence, but this time the sound came back a half second later to loud coughing. Tim gasped and hacked some more.
By the time he groaned wearily and came back to the microphone, Jason was halfway to the ground floor.
“Your services… are no longer required,” Tim said roughly.
“The hell they aren’t,” Jason said. “You sound like shit.”
Another, comprehending, pause. “Oh. Huh.”
Jason sighed. “I’m coming over.”
“Everybody’s gone,” Tim said, defeated. “I’m supposed to be watching Damian and doing food this one night. And…”
Mounting his bike, Jason paused to listen.
“I have all the stuff,” Tim mumbled. “It’s the only thing that sounds edible. And I tried, I just… stared at a tomato for like, forty-five minutes, and then accidentally napped, and—” He stifled a cough. “Damian can eat cereal. I’m going to bed. Don’t come.“
“Tim,” Jason said. “I meant it when I said to call if you need something.”
“I don’t need this,” Tim said sullenly. “I want it.”
Jason started the bike. “That’s good enough.”

like blue flame over my fingertips
by tangerinechar
T, 37k, Wangxian
Part of the 2020 MXTX Mini Bang
Summary: Lan Wangji’s roommate is brash, noisy, messy, annoying, and — absolutely terrible at feeding himself properly. (Or: food as a metaphor for love, featuring Lan Wangji’s A++ cooking skills, five times Lan Wangji cooked for Wei Wuxian, and one time Wei Wuxian reciprocated.) Kay's comments: Lan Wangji falls in love like a cat falling into a filled bathtub or however the saying goes, but ah, I absolutely love this! Wangxian college roommates and we have Lan Wangji's POV of him coming to know Wei Wuxian slowly and starting to care for him and showing that care by cooking for him. This story feels like a comforting bowl of soup for me, tbh. I just really like it. Excerpt: Lan Wangji is, he realizes, stabbing into the slim shoot of a scallion, annoyed. Really, truly, annoyed. Why won’t Wei Wuxian just take care of himself? Another stab, but well placed, so he can pretend he meant to slice the scallion up all along. Why does Wei Wuxian insist on doing these self-destructive things — why does Wei Wuxian not sleep, and not eat well, and laugh it all off — why is Wei Wuxian so smart and good and amazing, yet so infuriating — Oh. Lan Wangji’s water is boiling over. He slides the udon into the pot with a vague sense of detachment. If this itching, antsy feeling is annoyance, then what has he been feeling for Wei Wuxian, the past month and a half? Because this — this is something Lan Wangji can easily categorize. It’s a version of the distant annoyance he’s felt at his classmates, at loud and garish places, at people talking in libraries. A version that slices his tendons with iced knives and slams against his ribcage with the force of a typhoon. But for the past month, there have been silkworms in his lungs and mulberry leaves crested along his collarbone, a nervous and inevitable explosion of feeling from his trachea that Lan Wangji is too scared to acknowledge. And now. Now, Lan Wangji is cooking at 9:45 PM in the silent frost of winter for his irresponsible, irritating, incredibly and irresistibly beautiful roommate. When, Lan Wangji thinks, draining the udon and scattering the garlic-ginger-oil mix in the wok to sizzle, did I start caring this much about Wei Wuxian?
pov lan wangji, modern setting, modern no powers, college/university, roommates, mutual pining, 5+1 things, food as a metaphor for love, jin zixuan & lan wangji friendship, strangers to lovers, getting to know each other, falling in love, college student wei wuxian, college student lan wangji, living together, domestic fluff, fanart

Thinking about mlc because I just finished writing the modern au (the hanahaki au has been done for a few weeks, we'll see if I ever get around to posting them) and actually, I know exactly what the show tastes like. It's lotuses and blood and candy and sword oil and wood and tea. It smells like the sea and bitter medicinal herbs and also the terrible sweetness of death and sick. The texture is solid like chewing on a blade but also gritty like sand. It's a dish of love and confusion and hate and bloodlust and betrayal and tiredness and longing.
It's also a meal that, from the outside, seems completely normal. But when you take the first bite it's all off. None of the food is rotten, sure. And objectively it's not bad to eat. But none of the flavors match and the textures don't either and as a whole it's incredibly chaotic and jarring. When you try and wash it down with wine the wine is sour - again, not exactly in a bad way, but just odd enough to be off-putting.
But you eat all of it anyway, because someone you care about made it.

sharing an orange with someone you love, it feels like you're sharing your soul. your hearts are intertwined in ways that are too sweet to describe. every bite you take tastes like heaven — the taste of both sweet fruit and sweet love. being able to share such a precious, tender moment with someone who means so much to you is one of the most beautiful things in the world. it's almost as if life itself is showing you how to love and be loved in turn

To add onto the sharing food headcannon I would like to suggest that if they ever go out to eat at a restaurant they might order different meals but with the understanding that they’ll be eating both together - so Peeta will order food he knows Katniss will like and she’ll do the same in return!
Oh they have a full discussion over the menu, asking each other which sounds the best. If one of them is caught between two dishes that they both know they’ll both like they’ll get both and share. If they ever need to swap it’s no big deal. They’ve only had to do this once or twice but one time Peeta orders something and it’s just. Not to either of their tastes and he’s about to just suck it up and eat it but Katniss makes him send it back.
All leftovers are always fair game, which takes a bit for both of them to get used to. Peeta came from an ingredients house so if he randomly ate something it might’ve been what was planned for dinner. Katniss is just unused to having things in the house period. I actually think right at first they might accidentally let some things go bad because they were both too afraid to eat it, both saving it for the other. Neither one of them wanted to take it from the other. They have to learn to trust that food will always be there now and it’s okay.

Summary: "I was just wondering what snacks or sweets Hanguang-Jun prefers with his tea." Wei Wuxian laughs, opens his mouth, and then has the horrible realization that he really, truly, doesn't know. It takes a moment to sink in. He's known Lan Zhan ever since he was fifteen, had saved the Cultivation world together with him twice over, is actually married to the man, and Wei Wuxian doesn't know what his favorite tea snack is.
Kay's comments: This story is so sweet! In which Wei Wuxian sets out to learn Lan Wangji's preferences for food and drinks after realizing that he doesn't know these things. He makes him many snacks and drinks to test out and it's just the epitomy of food as a metaphor for love.
Excerpt: "We should eat out too! Say, Lan Zhan, anything you want in particular?" Wei Wuxian asks, studying Lan Zhan's face carefully, even as he gets the feeling that he already knows the answer that's coming. "Whatever Wei Ying want is fine," Lan Zhan replies as if on cue - gentle and familiar and completely honest. Wei Wuxian's eyes narrows, and he considers.
pov wei wuxian, the untamed compliant, post-the untamed, established relationship, married lan wangji/wei wuxian, chief cultivator lan wangji, food as a metaphor for love, tea, food, childhood memories, domestic fluff, light angst, fluff, sweet

Just thinking about how food is such a good metaphor for love. You can't live for long without either of them. Both nourishes you, one your body and one your soul. When some people are hungry for a long time, they start to get nauseous. Just like how some people deprived of love get repulsed by the very idea of it. But that doesn't stop you from craving it. You may feel a sense of control refusing to eat when you're hungry or power when you try to convince yourself you don't need others' love. But in reality you're desperate for it. If you're starving, you won't care about the taste of the food or whether it's good for your health. You won't care if it hurts and they're bad for you as long as you feel loved. Because there's nothing more appalling and terrible than hunger.
