If you’re on your way to slay the dragon and reclaim your homeland, these honey cakes are a must-have food supply on your journey.
Based on the cakes that are given to Thorin, Bilbo & company by Beorn, this muffin-like dessert contains a lot of honey and a little bit of ginger, to warm you up during cold nights on the road.

I wasn’t expecting to make a delicious breakfast today, but we had leftover rice to use and some frozen vegetarian sausages so I made a vegetarian Tapsilog (though it doesn’t compare to my wife’s).
Really in a rut mentally and emotionally, but I’m trying to enjoy the slower mornings when I can. I’m rifling through Blakwork by Alison Whittaker again, as a poem was set by my lecturer last week, and of course it was brilliant. I never did finish this collection because my brain wasn’t in the right headspace, but I’m determined to start again right from the beginning.
Whittaker is a fantastic Gomeroi writer and researcher. I honestly can’t believe I put this one down at all. Her collection Lemons in the Chicken Wire is one of my favourite poetry collections. Queer, First Nations poetry that’s the best parts of memoir, satire and interrogation of the world.
