okay this is a bit of an abstract piece that I kinda sped through just to have a concept that looks half decent, but hopefully it makes sense once I explain it. it's a shot reverse shot (cinematography term for showing a character, what they're looking at, and then their reaction) of this woman looking at a strange piece of jewelry on display in her girlfriend's house. the reflection in the glass of the display case shows the collar lining up with her neck, which is some extremely unsubtle foreshadowing, but I think it looks cool so whatever
also here's a close up view of the collar; a golden band with an intricate locking mechanism, and a rose engraving on the front.

I'm writing a story called Fool's Mate. it's a spin off of The Matron's Handmaiden by Clairanette, which is one of my favorite stories of all time.
Fool's Mate is a story about Rosa DiAngelo, and her slave, Mava Fitzgerald. with a locking shock collar around her neck, Mava is forced to obey her Mistress's every demand. but both feel the weight of their past relationship, and even though they both hurt each other, Mava secretly wishes that they can learn to love each other again.
there's only two chapters right now, but I'm working on a couple more right now.
I plan on making FM into a huge story, and I'm gonna try and get a new chapter out at least every month if not more frequently.

Chess Blog Day #21 - Fool's Mate
Fool's mate is called that because it only happens if you play especially bad moves.

It happens when one player only moves the f and g pawns.

It's a very unusual type of checkmate since only one piece is involved, the queen. Most checkmates require two or three pieces.
It's checkmate since even though the knight and bishop are near the king they can't do anything to protect it.

The shortest possible game of chess (aside from instant resignation) is a fool's mate, and is the only way a player can be checkmated in two moves. Even though white usually has an advantage by being able to move first only black can deliver a two move checkmate.

One possible game is 1.f3 e5 2.g4 Qh4# 0-1.
Fool's mate is a bit more of a fun fact than a real threat - you shouldn't be moving the pawns around your king anyway.
However, some checkmating attacks in the opening can be quite dangerous if you're not careful.

R.E. Seraphin — Fool’s Mate (Take A Turn/Safe Suburban Home)

R.E. Seraphin said of his new album, Fool’s Mate, that “on the surface, they are love songs but there's a suggestion of something more ominous.” To set aside the ominous for a moment, you can get a lot out of the surface alone. It’s an immediate, intricate record that satisfies with or without a deep listen. Take, for instance, the streaming “Lips Like Sugar” grandeur on “Virtue Of Being Wrong,” the warbling bass and sunny trumpets on “Argument Stand,” or the shaggy, shimmering guitar solo on “Fall.” The band displays a sure-handed coherence and magnetism developed and then recorded live – with the exception of piano overdubs. The result is a set of dynamic, buoyant tracks that snap together a wide enough rock and roll tent to encompass Tom Petty, The Clean and a dash of Mark Lanegan Band, among others. Taken as a whole, Fool’s Mate is also reminiscent of Wilco’s Summerteeth, another bright, powerful album with lurid desperation creeping in from the edges.
Seraphin’s voice holds the center, bending lines into hooks. It’s a quality he shares with great power pop annunciators like Michael Stipe and Matthew Sweet, though, as a vocalist, he more so evokes the melodic hush of The Clientele’s Alasdair MacLean, Lloyd Cole’s breathy deadpan or, at times, the muted viciousness of The Jesus & Mary Chain’s Jim Reid. Like Yo La Tengo’s Georgia Hubley, too, Seraphin wrings a great deal of energy and melancholic drama out of his stage whisper. In contrast to the mix of 2022’s more blown-out Swingshift EP, Seraphin’s voice is given a great deal of room on Fool’s Mate. For all the robust buzz of music around him, here Seraphin’s lightly-fuzzed words always stand out. And it’s in both what he says and how that we return to the ominous something underlying everything.
It’s put most succinctly on “Clock Without Hands” (not a Nancy Griffith cover): “The sun is big and bright but the clouds keep on rolling in” —  just one example of a preoccupation with a gathering storm. If that observation is a good working hypothesis for how the stories on Fool’s Mate are likely to unfold, then it’s the album’s more macabre lyrics that provide the most convincing evidence of how innocent tips into sinister. On the pleading “End Of The Start,” Seraphin twists and abrades familiar moments of pop song romance to grotesque and captivating effect. Rather than get lost in someone’s eyes, the narrator’s love has “a smile [they] really want to eat” and skin that isn’t just perfect, a la Cole, but “glistening” and, further, glistening with a “dew” they “wanna feel.” Consuming, somatic details like these, conveyed by Seraphin’s earnest, stricken delivery, leap up through the album’s gleaming surface to show the human weirdness wriggling underneath, and hint at trouble to come. The brief, sparkling “Bound,” an album highlight, works against type from another direction. Rather than strain against entrapment, the line “no matter what you do to me/I will not be bound” sounds, coming from Seraphin, arch, flirtatious even, a protest that is itself bound to submit, and happily, given the interplay between the song’s characters. Here, for once, the foreboding is stalked by the joyful.
The album closes with a cover of Sinéad O’Connor’s “Jump In The River.” It trades some of the ragged, gleeful openness of the original for a focus and a steady rhythm, driven by a melodic bassline, that foreground the lyrics and, in doing so, create a different kind of intensity. You get the same sense of abandon to a bad idea that O’Connor delivers but from, perhaps, a more calculating place. In Seraphin’s hands, it feels somehow more intimate. Less a fight you’re overhearing than a conversation, or relationship, you might want to get out of. Put another way, “on the surface, [it’s a love song] but there's a suggestion of something more ominous.” In discussing the conception of Fool’s Mate, Seraphin also noted that the “sense of corporeality [was] intended to unsettle the listener.” As a coda, “Jump In The River” completes that welcome intention and bolsters what came before — it’s not hard to imagine “like the times we did it so hard/there was blood on the wall” being a line of Seraphin’s own — and works just as well as an introduction as Fool’s Mate starts over, pulling you back in.

Un sueño inagotable
¡Este mes se inicia la serie de entrevistas personales de Nightmare, en la que cada miembro tendrá un diálogo con el artista que él mismo haya elegido! En esta memorable primera entrega tenemos a Hitsugi (G) y Aki de SID (B), que tienen muy buena relación también en su vida privada. Un diálogo como salido de un sueño entre ellos dos, que forman parte de grupos que lideran actualmente el mundillo, se hace realidad. Ambos, que de hecho han vivido juntos un tiempo, hablarán el uno del otro, de sus grupos, y también sobre el mundillo... ¡Aquí, recrearemos los 90 minutos en los que acabaron sacando a la luz todos sus pensamientos sinceros sobre los que normalmente no hablan!
--La sesión de fotos ha finalizado sin problemas. A: A pesar de que acabamos riéndonos tanto que al principio no podíamos avanzar con la sesión de fotos (risas). H: Los dos estábamos poniendo caras que nunca habíamos visto en el otro excepto en revistas, así que daba vergüenza mirar (risas). --¿Entonces salís tanto en privado? H: Sí. A: ¿Cuándo fue? Una vez te quedaste en mi casa una semana, ¿no? H: ¡Sí! ¿No fue a finales de 2006? --Hasta teníais fiestas de pijamas, eh (risas). ¿Qué hacíais de comer? A: Yo cocinaba, ¿no? H: Sí. Aún tengo fotos en mi teléfono de Aki cocinando. Las de él sujetando una sartén y diciendo "¡Ya~y!" o algo (risas). A: Decía cosas como "ya pronto va a estar" (risas). --¿¡Qué eres, su novia!? (risas). A: En realidad sí que se sentía así. Le decía "¿quieres comer curry?" y hacía curry (risas). --¿Cómo se conocieron dos personas como vosotros dos? A: Hay alguien llamado Tatsuro de MUCC (risas), nos dijo, vamos a comer todos juntos. Hitsugi estaba entre esas personas. ¿Cuándo dices que fue? Fue cuando sacamos "Renai", así que, ¿hace 5 años? H: Sí. --¿Y vuestras primeras impresiones el uno del otro? A: Antes pensaba que sería más en plan "¿¡an!?" [sonido agresivo], y me daba la impresión de que iba a ser un poco maleducado, pero cuando todos fuimos de compras en grupo, hizo cosas de forma inesperada, como tomar la iniciativa para cargar con las bolsas. Al ver eso pensé "anda, ¿¡no es así!?". H: En cuanto a mí, solía pensar que Aki sería más reservado y callado, o más bien que daría la imagen de ser guay. Pero en realidad es alegre y alguien con quien es fácil hablar. A: ¿Y luego supongo que ambos empezamos a quedar para beber sin darnos cuenta? --También haríais buenas migas debido a vuestros numerosos piercings, ¿verdad? A: Sí. H: Me pregunto cuántos tenemos en total. A: Puede que en torno a 100 (risas). H: Eso es imposible (risas). --Hitsugi, ¿por qué te hiciste tantos piercings? H: Para empezar, porque no me gustaba mi cara y es interesante cambiarla (mediante los piercings). También es por eso que llevo mucho maquillaje. Incluso ahora, sigo pensando "¡guau!" a veces cuando me quito todos los piercings de la cara en casa. No es que odie a mis padres, es solo que no tengo confianza en mi propia cara. --¿Qué tipo de cara te daría confianza en ti mismo? H: Una como la de Aki-sama (risas). A: ¡Otra vez no! --Gracias por darme la respuesta exacta que estaba esperando (risas). H: Sakito también lo dijo, que quería "nacer con esa cara". A: Probablemente está medio de coña, ¿no? (risas) H: ¡No! En realidad, cuando te presenté a Sakito, él también apreció lo estiloso que es Aki y dijo "yo también quiero llevar un chaleco así". --¿¡Estás diciendo que es debido a la influencia de Aki que Sakito lleve chalecos a menudo en su vida privada!? H: Ya tenía chalecos antes de eso, pero supongo que solo empezó a llevarlos tan a menudo tras conocer a Aki. A: Dejemos de hablar de estas cosas (avergonzado). --¿Por qué Aki empezó a hacerse piercings? A: Creo que quería parecer de otro mundo, o más bien, que me vieran como a una persona extraña. --¿No es porque tuvieses un complejo como Hitsugi? A: No, yo también tenía complejos. Me hice mi tatuaje por la misma razón. No me gustaba mucho a mí mismo. H: Decir que no te gustas con esa cara que tienes, ¡qué desconsiderado! (risas) --¿Cómo os veis el uno al otro como músicos? H: No es como que esté haciendo comparaciones, pero Ni~ya es nuestro héroe no reconocido. Creo que eso es lo que siempre sucede en un grupo de 5 integrantes, pero como Aki toca solo en la parte izquierda del escenario, eso realmente marca la diferencia. A: Nunca había tocado en un grupo de 4 integrantes antes de formar SID, siempre eran grupos de 5 personas con guitarras dobles. En ese caso, había 2 personas en la parte izquierda del escenario, por lo que la disposición del escenario y las frases musicales eran totalmente diferentes, al igual que la forma de expresarse en el escenario, así que entiendo lo que quiere decir "un bajista es así cuando está en un grupo de 5 miembros". H: En ese sentido, Aki es un bajista que está más cerca de ser un animador, así que cuando le miras te emocionas en plan "¿¡qué será lo próximo que haga!?". A: Eso me pone contento. Después de todo, hay un montón de gente capaz, pero solo unos pocos molan, ¿no? Es por eso que prefiero que me digan "molas" o "no me canso de mirarte", en lugar de "eres bueno". Eso es en lo que me quiero convertir. No obstante, yo tampoco pudo apartar la vista de Hitsugi cuando veo un concierto de Nightmare. Este tío, no hay ni una parte de él de la que se pueda decir "se parece a esto o aquello", ¿verdad? Lo mismo se aplica a su maquillaje, y también a su presencia sobre el escenario. No hay muchos otros guitarristas que muevan así la cabeza. Pero él ha creado bien esa imagen. Cuando ojeas revistas y eso, salen muchas personas que llevan maquillaje como el de Hitsugi, ¿no? En ese sentido, parece que ha abierto un camino. H: Dejemos de hablar de estas cosas (avergonzado). A: Pero oye, pero si no es con alguien con quien compartes estos momentos que te roban el corazón, no puedes tener una relación tan estrecha, ¿no? Creo que seríamos más bien conocidos, y si algún día discutiésemos... H: Seguramente nos alejaríamos. A: Así es. Sin embargo, cuando ves el concierto de otro grupo, sientes como que estás controlando al enemigo, ¿no? Pero no tengo esos sentimientos respecto a Nightmare. H: Nuestros compañeros de grupo se llevan todos bien unos con otros. A: Sí. H: Hablando de eso, no pude evitar ponerme muy contento cuando SID llenó el Yoyogi (Daiichi Taiikukan). A: Bebimos a la vuelta, ¿no? Y luego este tío se puso a llorar y me sorprendió. --Más que enemigos o rivales, ¿sois como camaradas? H: Además de ser camaradas, me hizo increíblemente feliz que le fuese tan bien en algo así a un amigo tan valioso. Viendo el concierto, me empezaron a entrar ganas de llorar y pensé "¡no, no puedo llorar en los asientos VIP!" (risa incómoda). --SID anunció su debut como major en el concierto de Yoyogi, como persona con experiencia en el mundillo major, ¿tiene Hitsugi algunas expectativas en lo que respecta a Aki y a SID? H: Al final, quiero que vendan. Porque no puedes mantener el mundillo con un solo grupo. Al propio Aki le gusta el rock, y es una persona rockera en varios sentidos, pero al mismo tiempo es fácil que SID te agrade cuando los escuchas, por lo que me gustaría que siguieran por este camino. En cuanto a Nightmare, creo que nos hemos embarcado en lo que podría llamarse el camino fácil. Pero SID tiene la capacidad de recurrir también a elementos pop, así que me gustaría que explorasen a partir de ahí. A: Este tío dice "camino fácil", pero yo de verdad creo que Nightmare hace cosas bastante interesantes. Como por ejemplo cambiar de repente el tempo de la canción en el estribillo. Aparte de Nightmare, no creo que ahora haya muchos otros grupos que hagan esas cosas, las canciones que contienen cierta oscuridad definitivamente son las principales (del visual-kei), ¿no es cierto? Creo que eso es algo bueno. --¿Quieres decir Nightmare es más hardcore mientras que SID es más pop? A: Pero no creo que seamos tan diferentes. H: Creo que también hay aspectos en los que coincidimos. A: Simplemente nos gusta el rock, ¿no? Aquellos que consideran cosas como el maquillaje como algo guay reciben la etiqueta de visual-kei, pero todo lo que hacemos es tocar la música que nos gusta, dando la imagen que nos gusta. No lo hacemos bajo unas condiciones inmutables. No es que vayamos a tomar el control del mundillo, pero creo que sería divertido si pudiéramos hacerlo todavía más emocionante. De verdad que creo que podríamos hacer muchas cosas. --¿Muchas cosas como cuáles? A: Como dos grupos haciendo un tour nacional juntos. H: Si SID y Nightmare hicieran una gira conjunta, eso sería de locos (risas). --Beberíais hasta el alba todas las noches (risas). A: Eso acabaría convirtiéndose en lo principal (risas). --Y daríais los conciertos para pasar la borrachera (risas). H: Diríamos "¡hoy también vamos a tomar buenas bebidas!" (risas). Pero me gustaría que nos subiéramos al mismo escenario. ¡Quiero probar a organizar un evento con dos grupos! --¿Por qué no lo hacéis para el primer día del concierto de dos días al aire libre de SID en abril? H: ¡Vaya cosas más disparatadas estás diciendo otra vez! A: Pero sería genial si pudiéramos hacerlo (risas). --Podríais formar un grupo los dos, ¿qué tal eso? A: Me gustaría probar solo por hacer el tonto (risas). Añade un batería, pon un micrófono en el centro y los 3 lo rodeamos y los dos cantamos, ¿qué te parece? En plan "¡no vamos a introducir nada más! ¡Esto es todo!". Me gustaría tocar el tipo de música que surgiría de una situación como esa. Algo como rock sin impurezas. H: ¿Como que va todo de una? A: Sí, sí. Una cosa así (risas). --Ahora ambos estáis en activo en el mundillo major, ¿creéis que se producen cosas como menosprecios al visual-kei? A: No me lo parece, pero... H: No nos lo parece, ¿eh? --Por ejemplo, aun ahora, es un hecho que a los grupos visual-kei no los invitan a festivales de verano. A: Si cosas como el maquillaje son la razón de que no se nos invite, me parece estúpido. Es una barrera que tenemos que romper. Pero, personalmente, en lugar de conseguir que el visual-kei tenga ese lado mainstream, me gustaría que mantuviese un cierto lado underground. En cuanto a los looks. --Es cierto que no me gustaría que el visual-kei fuese apropiado para festivales de verano (risas). A: Es por eso que digo que el mundillo no va a tomar fuerza si la gente no se une... H: Cuando se le dé bombo al mundillo, ¿por qué no hacemos un festival de visual-kei? Reunimos 10 grupos que den conciertos en solitario en el Budokan. --¿Hitsugi también cree que es necesario para el visual-kei tener un cierto lado underground? H: Sí. Creo que de esta manera los fans tendrán también, no un sentimiento de superioridad, sino un sentimiento de "¡estoy familiarizado con esto!". A: Algo que te pertenece solo a ti. H: Sí, sí. Entiendo la opinión de que eso hace falta. Como cuando los chavales de instituto no les enseñan a sus padres que están escuchando este tipo de música. --Entonces, en otras palabras, si no podéis ser aceptados por la generación de los padres, no crearéis un revuelo en las listas de ventas. H: Quiero revolucionar las listas de ventas. Pero está bien no salir mucho por televisión y eso, ¿no? Aunque, para que las cosas salgan así, creo que tendríamos que salir mucho en televisión por lo menos una vez, y luego retirarnos. En vez de que se nos pueda ver por televisión constantemente, me gustaría más que sea como algo especial. A: Yo querría tener un carisma que haga que la gente diga "¿¡estos tíos salen por la tele!? ¡Genial!", supongo que eso es lo que quiero decir con lo de tener un lado underground. No me disgusta salir en los medios, pero quiero ser alguien que pueda crear adecuadamente un mundo incluso cuando es apartado de esos canales. Esto se relaciona con lo que dije al principio sobre querer tener un punto de diferencia, o con lo de que tenía complejos, así que creo que es por eso por lo que me gusta especialmente este género. H: Quiero seguir adelante valorando estos aspectos. --Pero también queréis vender, ¿no? H: Más que decir que quiero que vendamos, me gustaría lanzar hits y tratar de conseguir una presencia que pueda ser considerada de estrella, pero quiero seguir apropiadamente los pasos que llevan a ello. Incluso si me dijesen "a partir de mañana, serás una persona súper famosa", eso no me valdría. Tienes que llegar hasta ese punto habiendo adquirido la experiencia adecuada, sin recurrir a los métodos equivocados. --Volviendo al tema del lado underground, tanto Hitsugi como Aki mostráis vuestras facetas más naturales en revistas como esta o en la radio, etc., ¿verdad? ¿Es este también uno de los "pasos"? H: Eso es porque no me impacta la gente que son únicamente guays. Si todo de ellos es perfecto, acabarás pensando que no puedes igualarte a ellos independientemente de lo mucho que lo intentes, además creo que también tendrán sus puntos flacos porque todos somos humanos, así que está bien no esconderlos todos. A: Los grupos de rock dan la impresión de que nunca puedes mostrar estas facetas, ¿no? No te rías, no hables. Pero ahora hay muchas personas que también muestran esas facetas. Yo mismo he mejorado en mostrarlas respecto a lo que hacía antes, decir que he "ganado confianza en mí mismo" probablemente es la mejor manera de expresarlo. Poco a poco, creo que estoy empezando a gustarme a mí mismo, aunque antes me odiaba. Más que esa parte de mí que está armada hasta los dientes con ropa y maquillaje... Ahora soy capaz de concebir que está bien que me guste esa otra parte de mí que se los ha quitado, mi yo al desnudo. Supongo que es por eso que me puedo mostrar ante otras personas, y también creo que está bien no ocultarlo tanto. H: Especialmente porque es cansado ocultarlo. Además de eso, siempre y cuando mantengamos una mentalidad ambiciosa, diría que nos irá bien.

Nightmare's Hitsugi x SID's Aki*
An Inexhaustible Dream
Nightmare's personal series, in which each member will have a dialogue session with the artist he appointed himself, starts this month! Featured in this commemorable first installation are Hitsugi (G) and SID's Aki (B), who are on very close terms even in private. A dream-like dialogue session between these two, who belong to bands leading the current scene, becomes reality. These two who'd actually lived together for a period of time will talk about each other, their bands, and also the scene...... Here, we'll re-enact the 90 minutes in which they finished saying all the honest thoughts they don't usually speak of!!
――The photo session has concluded without trouble. A: Even though we ended up laughing so much that the photoshoot couldn't progress at first (laughs). H: We were both putting on expressions that we've never seen on each other except in magazines, so it's embarrassing to look (laughs). ――Is that how much you hang out in private? H: Un. A: When was that? You've stayed over at my home for a week before, haven't you? H: I did! Wasn't it towards the end of '06? ――You even had sleepovers huh (laughs). What did you do for meals? A: I cooked, right? H: Un. I still have photos of Aki cooking on my phone. The ones of him holding a frying pan and going "Ya~y!" or something (laughs). A: Saying things like "it'll be done soon" (laughs). ――What are you, his girlfriend!? (laughs) A: It really was that sort of feeling. I'd go, "Want to eat curry?" and make curry (laughs). ――How did two people like you meet? A: There's someone called Tatsuro from MUCC (laughs), he went, let's all go eat together. Hitsugi was among those people. When was that again? It was when we released "Renai", so 5 years ago? H: Un. ――And your first impressions of each other? A: I used to think he'd be more like "An!?" [sort of a belligerent sound], and have a slightly insolent feel to him, but when we all went to shop in bulk, he unexpectedly did things like taking the initiative to carry the load. Seeing that, I thought, "Ah, he's not like that!?" H: As for me, I used to think Aki would be more reserved and quiet, or rather have a cool image. But he's actually cheerful and easy to talk to. A: And then I guess the two of us started going drinking before we knew it? ――You hit it off due to your numerous piercings too, didn't you? A: Yeah. H: I wonder how many we have in total? A: There may be around 100 (laughs). H: That can't be (laughs). ――Hitsugi, why did you get that many piercings? H: Because I didn't really like my own face to begin with, and it's interesting to change my face (by getting piercings). That's why I wear heavy makeup too. Even now, I think "Uwa!" sometimes when I remove all my facial piercings at home. It's not that I hate my parents, somehow I just don't have confidence in my own face. ――What kind of face would give you self-confidence? H: One like Aki-sama's (laughs). A: Not again! ――Thank you for giving me the exact answer I was anticipating (laughs). H: Sakito said it too, that he "wanted to be born with this kind of face". A: He's probably half poking fun at it, isn't he? (laughs) H: He isn't! Actually, when I first introduced you to Sakito, he also looked at how fashionable Aki was and said, "I want to wear a vest like that too". ――Are you saying it's due to Aki's influence that Sakito often wears vests in private!? H: He already owned vests before that, but I guess he only started wearing them that much after meeting Aki. A: Let's stop talking about things like that (embarrassed). ――Why did Aki start getting piercings? A: I think I wanted to look otherworldly, or rather to be seen as a strange person. ――It wasn't because you had a complex like Hitsugi? A: No, I had a complex too. I had my tattoo inked for the same reason. I didn't like myself very much. H: To say you don't like yourself with that face of yours, that's so immoderate! (laughs) ――How do you see each other as musicians? H: It's not like I'm drawing comparisons here, but Ni~ya is our unsung hero. I think that'll happen in a 5 piece band no matter what, but since Aki plays alone on the left side of the stage, that really does make a difference. A: I've never played in a 4 piece band before we formed SID, it was always a 5-man group with twin guitars. In that case, there'd be 2 people on the left side of the stage, so things like the stage set-up and phrases [as in bass/guitar phrases] would be completely different, as would the way you express yourself on stage, so I understand what it means to say "A bassist is like this when he's in a 5 piece band". H: In that sense, Aki is a bassist who's closer to being an entertainer, so you'll get excited when watching him, like "I wonder what he'll do for us next!?" A: That makes me happy. Afterall, there are lots of skilled people, but the cool ones are few, right? That's why I'd rather be told "you're cool" or "I don't get tired of watching you", rather than "you're good". That's what I want to become. However, I also can't look away from Hitsugi when I'm watching Nightmare's lives. This guy, there isn't a part of him that can be said to "resemble so-and-so", is there? The same goes for his makeup, and also for his stage presence. There aren't any other guitarists who move their heads like that. But he created that sort of aura well. When you look at magazines and such, they feature many people wearing makeup like Hitsugi's, right? In that sense, it feels like he has opened up a path. H: Let's stop talking about things like that (embarrassed). A: But hey, if it isn't someone who owns moments that steal your heart, you can't get this close, can you? I think we'd probably be more of shallow associates, and if we were to argue one day...... H: We'd probably say bye-bye. A: That's right. However, when you watch another band's live, you'll definitely feel like you're keeping tabs on the enemy, won't you? But I have none of those sentiments towards Nightmare. H: Our bandmates are all friendly with one another. A: Un. H: Speaking of which, I was so happy I couldn't help myself when SID filled up Yoyogi (Daiichi Taiikukan). A: We drank on the way back, right? And then this guy cried and surprised me. ――Rather than enemies or rivals, I guess you're like comrades? H: Besides being comrades, I was terribly happy that a very important friend succeeded at something like that. Watching the live, I just started feeling like crying and thought, "No, I can't cry at the VIP seats!" (awkward laugh). ――SID announced their major debut at that Yoyogi live, as a senior in the major scene, does Hitsugi have any expectations of Aki and SID? H: I do want them to sell after all. Because you can't create a scene with just one band. Aki himself likes rock, and is a rock sort of person in various ways, but the way SID itself is easy to listen to, I'd like them to push onwards along that route. For Nightmare, I think we're taking what they call the foolproof path. But SID has the power to support pop elements too, so I'd like them to expand upon that. A: This guy says "foolproof path", but I seriously think Nightmare does some pretty interesting stuff. Such as suddenly changing the song's tempo at the chorus. Besides Nightmare, I don't think there are many bands doing stuff like that now, songs that have a proper darkness to them are definitely the main (part of visual-kei), aren't they? I think that's good. ――You mean Nightmare is more hardcore, and SID is more pop? A: But I don't think we're that different. H: I think there are aspects where we overlap too. A: We simply like rock, right? Those who treat things like makeup as something cool are labelled visual-kei, but all we're doing is play the music we like, looking the way we like. We're not doing it under fixed conditions. It's not that we're going to throw our weight around in the scene, but I think it'd be fun if we could hype up it up even more. I really think we could do many things. ――Many things, for example? A: Like two bands going on a nation-wide tour together. H: If SID and Nightmare do a coupling tour, that'll be wicked (laughs). ――You'll drink until morning every night (laughs). A: That'll end up becoming the main point (laughs). ――And play live to sober up (laughs). H: Going, "we're gonna drink good liquor today too!" (laughs) But I'd like us to stand on the same stage. I want to try a 2-band event! ――Why don't you do that for day 1 of SID's 2-day outdoor show in April? H: You're saying such unreasonable things again! A: It'd be amazing if we could, though (laughs). ――You two might as well form a band, how's that? A: I want to give that a try just to fool around (laughs). Add a drummer, place a mic in the center, have the 3 of us surround it, and have both of us sing, how's something like that? Like, "We won't add anything else! That's all!" I want to try playing the kind of music that seems like it'd originate from a scene like that. Something like rock without impurities. H: Like it's all in one go? A: Yes, yes. That sort of feeling (laughs). ――You two are currently active in the major scene, do you still feel that there're things like visual-kei bashing? A: I don't feel it that much, but... H: We don't really feel it huh? ――For example, even now, it's a fact that visual-kei bands aren't invited to summer festivals. A: If stuff like makeup is the reason we aren't invited, I think that's stupid. That's something we have to break down. But personally, instead of visual-kei having that much of a mainstream feeling, I want it to have a certain kind of an underground feel to it somewhere. Image-wise. ――It's true that I wouldn't want visual-kei to be suitable for summer festivals (laughs). A: That's why I say the scene won't be invigorated if people don't gather...... H: When the scene's hyped up, why don't we hold a visual-kei festival? Gather up 10 bands playing one-man shows at Budokan. ――Does Hitsugi also think that a certain sort of underground feeling is necessary for visual-kei? H: Un. I think that way our fans will probably also have more of, not to say a sense of superiority, but the feeling that "I know about this!" A: Something that belongs only to yourself. H: Yes, yes. I get the feeling that's necessary. Like how middle school kids wouldn't show their parents that they're listening to this kind of music. ――So in other words, if you can't be affirmed by the parents' generation, you won't create a stir on the charts. H: I want to stir up the charts. But it's fine to not appear much on television and such, isn't it? Although, for things to turn out like that, I think we must appear a lot on television once, then withdraw. Instead of being able to be seen on television anytime, I'd rather have a premium sort of feeling. A: I want charisma that will make people go, "These guys are on TV!? That's awesome!" I suppose that's what I mean by an underground feeling. I don't dislike getting exposure in the media, but I want to be someone who can build a world properly even when he's been tossed aside by such channels. This ties back to what I said at first about wanting to go to a point of disparity, or how I had a complex, so I think that's why I particularly like this genre. H: I want to go on valuing that. ――But you also wish to sell well, don't you? H: Rather than saying I want us to sell, I'd like to slam out hit songs and try becoming a presence that can be called a star, but I want to properly follow the routes leading up to that. Even if I get told, "From tomorrow onwards, you're a super famous person", it won't do. You have to become that by accumulating proper experience, without using the wrong methods. ――Returning to the topic of an underground feeling, both Hitsugi and Aki show your unadorned aspects in magazines like this or on radio etc, don't you? Is that one of the "routes" too? H: That's because I don't feel charmed by people who are nothing but cool. If everything about them is perfect, you'll end up thinking you can't catch up no matter how hard you try, plus I think they'll have some weak points since they're only human, so it's alright to not hide them all. A: Rock bands give the impression that you can never show such aspects, don't they? Don't laugh, don't talk. But now, there are many people who show those aspects too. I've also gotten better at showing them than I was in the past, saying that I've "gained self-confidence" is probably the closest way of putting it. Little by little, I think I'm coming to like myself, whom I used to hate. More than the me who's armed to the teeth with clothes and makeup... I can now think it's fine to like the me who's taken that off, my bare self. I guess that's why I can appear before others, and also think it's fine to not hide that much. H: Especially since it's tiring to hide. In addition to that, as long as we maintain a hungry sort of mentality, I'd say we're fine.
