Day 3 - What’s your favorite episode(s)?

torchwood is a weird show for me in that i dont have traditional fav episodes bc even the ones i like most are like 70% good and 30% terrible 😭 but! i have episodes that have driven me the craziest + that i love the most. and those are...

for starters, the last four eps of s1 are MY episodes. i call them the owen mental illness arc. FHDSK jk but like, i love how it's a cohesive arc for him. he loses diane, goes off the deep end, and it culminates in him nearly destroying the world. i think about the whole latter half of s1 far too often it makes me crazyyyy. ppl give s1 a lot of shit but i think the storyline is (possibly accidentally) brilliant. there's a whole subtle overarching theme (torchwood breaks people) that i adoreeeee. and owen's the best example of it. (cjh + eod both specifically make me fucking nutssss. cjh is the episode ever but only the owen&ianto plot. i do not care abt jack and his boytoy. yawn. owen & ianto doing bi on bi violence was 10x more homoerotic than jack making out w a man btw.)

a day in the death. aaand the other owen arc fhsdjkf. torchwood is rlly owen's show for me ngl. at least s1 n s2. dmw pisses me off (more on that tomorrow... and the next day actually) but the undead arc as a whole still makes me bonkers, and aditd's easily the best, and one of the best eps of the whole show actually. additionally, it's one of the eps that like, has something substantial to say thats enhanced by the sci fi elements, like, it's something i'd wanna show someone on its own. i think it's a fantastic metaphor for mental illness and depression and watching owen go through all that on screen for the first time was kind of life changing, and it's come to mean a lot to me. did not expect i'd get a well-done and thoughtful and non-accusatory suicide episode from torchwood of all shows.

other ones im particularly fond of are countrycide, kkbb, tkks, gbg, sleeper, fragments, and, excluding the ending bc it hurts, reset.

yes! dw enjoyer!!! i mean im not up to date w it & i prefer the spin off shows but jdgsjdhd fav doctor has to be tennant bc hes the one i saw first like that one i started watching, best doctor compantion dynamic is so obviously tenth/donna bc. donna. im not sure abt my fav companion overall bc theyre all different in their own ways and like. yeagh. (i would say captain jack but. ifk if he counts jdhdjdbd) i dont think i have a fav seties but fav episode is the one which is that big crossover one where theres rose & sarah jane & torchwood in iy its fucking amazing. i havent watched any classic bc i wasnt sure where to find it but i might now bc its on bbc iplayer now i think(?) and UAGH. ianto jones my fucking beloved. im still mad u died </3 u didnt fucking deserve that

and also torchwood miracle day is. interesting concept but. uagh so fucking poorly executed and rex becoming immortal at the end and fucking. the blonde one uuhh ester(?) shouldnt have fucking died either!!!! although gwen is badass as hell in that season and so fucking valid for her to be mad at jack but still caring about him bc they have such a weird fucking relationship and it had to have gotten weirder after literally everyone else died uagh. torchwood.

“Hm?” Ianto turned over sleepily.

“Mandy, from the Ferret.”

“She did. She was there for me, after the Brecon Beacons. I was going to try and kill myself.”

“And you called her?” Jack was hurt. “Why didn’t you call me?”

Then it seemed to sink in. “Wait, you tried to kill yourself?”

“No, I was thinking about it. I didn’t. And I didn’t call you because, well, Jack, we weren’t exactly close.”

“It’s just, I care about you. I don’t want you to feel like that. I want to be there for you.”

“And you can be. But back then my feelings toward you were… complicated, to say the least. Not that they aren’t complicated now, but you had killed Lisa, and then suspended me instead of killing me or retconning me. I didn’t see you as anything more than an acquaintance and a boss. You weren’t someone who came to mind when I thought ‘who would care if I was gone’. None of the Torchwood team were.”

“Oh. And now?”

“I don’t think I’m likely to feel that way anytime soon, but if I do, I’ll call.”

Jack vowed to do everything he could so it would stay that way.

Grand Torchwood Rewatch 1x10

its the continuation of the saga that no fucker asked for!!!! Today we have torched wood 1x10 “out of time”, which also happens to be personally my favourite episode of the show so far

- ah, this episode!!! which has stayed with me, but not in the same way that the fucking infamous “cyberwoman” did. no, i originally began to rewatch a little of torchwood back in 2013-4, but after this episode i was Deeply Upset and had to stop for a while....... and kind of never picked up the rest of the series from there. so basically! this is the last episode that i’ve actually seen more than Once, In 2006, when it originally aired.

- anyway.... it begins. here lands the plane, time travelled from 1953. oh no im already sad!!! this is a sad episode, guys

- Owen Very Goblin Tier at the beginning of this ep

- does anywom remember Sugar Rush??? or Girls in Love, the series they made based off that jacqueline wilson book?? i had to pause to go imdb the young one the find where i knew her face from and it got me all nostalgic. but, i digress,

- just remembered that toshiko gets literally fuck all to do in this episode lmfao. even ianto gets more stuff in this one

- i dont know why but its really tickled me that the hub is covered in tinsel its just like a regular office fffghgdgh

- VERY FORTUNATE that the 50s man would turn on the radio to radio 3 apparently, like this was 2006, imagine if the first thing he heard was a blast of “sexyback”

- the idea that theyd need fake 2006 names is v odd to me bc like.... who would. who would go “WOW you have the same name as a generic man of no historic significance who disappeared in 1953!!!” like..... d. does it matter. idk

ok ok ive been lazy abt liveblogging torchwood so um,, update time :)

i finished s1 and im now onto s2 (dunno what ep im on, but ik owen just got shot. most of this was made before that part, so it's a bit inconsistent)

im glad gwen and rhys got themselves back on track and that rhys (finally!!) knows abt torchwood. i do miss the Sweet Moments between gwen and owen, but ik tosh is pining for owen and they're probably gonna get together, so hopefully there are Sweet Moments between them too.

i just got the scoop on jack's backstory, and all i really have to say is yikes. that dude in the ugly marching band jacket (john hart?) said that he found grey tho, so im excited for their reunion. i still think jack is a dick.

ianto seems to be comin outta his shell!! i mean it might just be that he's getting more screentime, so idk. but that kickass scene with the telephone lines? when they were all talking abt that lump alien and ianto was like "and guess who has to take care of it?? [bitchy sip]" ? and when hE KiSsEd jACk???? hfsdbjfsjlvkl god. and when he stood up to owen? there are a bit more, but i dont have them hangin out in my brain rn. anyway im glad ianto's having a good time (except for all the murder and violence).

um oh yeah, speaking of ianto, im coming around to the idea of him and jack's relationship. still dont get how ianto could fall in love w jack after the cyberlady ep, but im just choosing to ignore that for now bc i think they're cute. like, the Hug Scene?? god that will haunt me forever. jesus.

oh and owen is. dead. i heard abt his death earlier, and i thought it was like,, slower?? prolonged?? a lot later in the show???? idk, i was wrong tho, cuz he just kinda died very suddenly and that was that. the person im watching the show with has a strong (and justified) hate for owen, so she watched that and was like "oh good. i was hoping that would happen," like hgdssjkhdsk damn okay.

and tosh!! poor tosh. she feels underappreciated, she's dejectedly pining after owen, she got "remember"ed into a romance with adam. and THEN, when she wad finally getting somewhere with owen, he croaked. like man she's really goin thru it. hope she gets a break.

so uh those are my torchwood thoughts. heckling is appreciated. sorry about the longness of the post, i have two braincells and neither of them know how to put a "read more" thing in a post on mobile lol.

Unpopular opinion: i think he is one of the best characters ever to come out of doctor who. i also think he was good since the very first episode, he didn’t even grow into it. his arc is absolutely amazing and his sense of self worth makes me want to cry. he treated rose well even when he was hurting, and though he could have done better, he didn’t purposefully guilt her into anything. he’s such a compelling, relatable character

A wish: that ppl would appreciate him more. also that he and rose still found some way to keep in touch when they were in different universes (I KNOW BUT LET A GIRL DREAM)
