JYL was supposed to be betrothed to Emperor NMJ but she is inlove with JZ.Not wanting his sister to be a part of a loveless marriage and a possible harem no less! JC crossdressed as her to give them time to elope. When secrets out,why was NMJ still interested in him?! Why was his mom being weirdly proud of him?! Why does this MY keep thanking him and giving him food out of sheer relief?!(MY dont want to listen to NMJ drunk rant bout love)By god he want his normal life as a imperial soldier back
“Somewhere along the line, you must have thought this was a good idea,” the emperor said. His voice was low and deep, dangerous.
Jiang Cheng kept his eyes fixed on the wall in front of him – the harem wall, where men were most decidedly not allowed to go – and said nothing. There wasn’t any point. No matter how he’d gotten here, he was here, violating ancient rules for which the punishment was clear: castration at best, execution at worst.
His sole comfort was that at least he didn’t have any family to be executed alongside him for his crime.
After all, women married out, which meant Jiang Yanli was no longer part of his family, and Wei Wuxian – well.
Wei Wuxian had made his choices long ago.
The emperor prowled around him, looking at him through narrowed eyes. He hadn’t summoned the harem guards yet, but then, he didn’t really need to. The current Son of Heaven was a giant of a man, broad-shouldered and powerful and massive – Jiang Cheng was considered a tall man, and yet he was dwarfed by his imperial master – and his skill with the saber that would leap to his hand at his command was famous throughout the Central Plains.
He did not need the guards to defend himself against Jiang Cheng – or to deal with him.
“There’s only one thing that’s wrong with this,” the emperor finally said. “And it’s that you’re not nearly stupid enough for a scheme like that. You wouldn’t have had such a successful career in the imperial guards if you were.”
Jiang Cheng’s back stiffened, though he tried to hide the reaction. Surely the emperor couldn’t have guessed –
“My harem is not so empty that it requires forcing girls to join,” the emperor said. He stalked closer and closer. “Your sister could have said no at any time without losing face – and yet she didn’t, and now here you are…were you forced?”
Jiang Cheng didn’t say anything. He couldn’t. The consequences…
Even if Wei Wuxian no longer cared for them, thinking only of his happy new life in Gusu, neither Jiang Yanli nor Jiang Cheng would risk harm coming to him.
“Very effectively, too,” the emperor murmured. “I think I see the hand of my dear Prime Minister here.”
Shit.
Jin Guangyao was going to kill him, no, do worse than kill him –
“I’ll have to have another talk with him about that,” the emperor said, his tone almost conversational, and he reached out and put his hand on the back of Jiang Cheng’s neck. “Do you want to live?”
Jiang Cheng swallowed.
“Answer aloud.”
“Yes,” Jiang Cheng said, forcing the words out through stiff lips.
“Good,” the emperor said. “If you listen to me, you may yet manage it. Now – tell me what you know about what Jin Guangyao is planning…”
