Prominent external occipital protuberance is called occipital knob or spur or occipital bun. Though it was a persistent feature of early modern Europeans, it is extremely rare in the present modern era. Occipital spur was found to be one of the characteristic features of the ancestral Neanderthal trait. Variant anatomy of occipital region forms differential diagnosis in conditions associated with unexplained occipital pain. The present study has been done to evaluate the different morphological forms of occipital knobs. 56 skulls including partial and complete skulls were examined in the department of Anatomy. Broken and incomplete skulls were excluded from the study. 5 8.92 skulls were found to exhibit different forms of occipital knobs. 3 skulls had type 1 flat occipital knob. Type 2 crest and type 3 spine variants have been observed in one skull each. An inca bone was found coincidentally in a skull with flat type of occipital knob which also had three accessory emissary foramina located near foramen magnum. The skull with crest type of occipital knob had two accessory emissary foramina at the external occipital crest and near foramen magnum. Knowledge of variant occipital knobs is an example of application of basic sciences in clinical correlation, one of the goals of the new competency based medical education. Though asymptomatic, discomfort in the occipital region due to occipital spur has to be notified in the differential diagnosis. When symptomatic it could be one of the etiology of occipital headache, mandating surgical excision. To conclude, our study presents occipital knob which is a rare variant of occipital bone near external occipital protuberance that exhibited three forms flat, crest and spine. Coincidentally inca bone and accessory emissary foramina near foramen magnum also have been observed.

when did endothermy first evolve in synapsids?
That's the million dollar question, isn't it?
Short answer, we don't know. There are many proxies for endothermy and they appear all over the place - fibrolamellar bone goes back to edaphosaurids, nutrient foraminae consistent with endothermy are found in almost all therapsids, nasal turbinates go back to therocephalians, isotopic evidence for elevated metabolisms suggest Eucynodontia, hair probably was around by Probainognathia, tooth cementum deposition rates seem to suggest Mammaliaformes. Keep in mind endothermy is a gradient, so stem-mammals probably plotted all along the ectotherm-endotherm axis. A confluence of evidence (hair, fibrolamellar bone in the entire body, ossified nasal turbinates, and tooth deposition rates) seems to suggest that modern mammalian levels of endothermy were gained within Probainognathia and no later than Mammaliaformes.
And some studies suggest that certain dicynodonts (cistecephalids and dicynodontoids) independently developed full endothermy from the mammal line.

Would spinosaurids have exposed teeth or lips?
Most discussion of dinosaur lips is speculative by necessity, so I can't give you a concrete answer but I tend to go with fully lipped spinosaurids. Generally, if all the teeth can fit within the margins of the jaw then I don't see any reason that they wouldn't have had lips.
The configuration of how those lips would have looked is unclear, and I've drawn a few different options:
Tumblr media
Personally I'd go with a variation of C to D, lips don't necessarily need to conform to the profile of the tooth row and it shouldn't hinder the ability of the teeth to capture prey since the teeth still project far beyond the margins of the lips
Tumblr media
I have also seen half-lip sort of reconstructions like on the left. Honestly it strikes me as coming more from an attempt to compromise more than any actual scientific plausibility, like the memes about compromising between Round Earth and Flat Earth with Cube Earth.
The final interpretation on the right is totally lipless, which I honestly just do not buy. The main argument behind this is drawing comparisons between spinosaurs and crocodiles, but there are issues with this.
Tumblr media
Crocodiles and spinosaurs have very similar jaw profiles, but where they differ is in the texture of the bone surface. The tight skin of crocodile jaws clings to the very rough bone on the skull, which is absolutely packed with nerve foramina. Spinosaurs also have foramina, but they are much sparser and the surrounding bone of the skull is smooth. It just isn't the same bone texture as that which supports the cracked, lipless skin of crocodiles.
There are also plenty of examples of water-dwelling tetrapods that do still have lips. Water monitors and marine iguanas are semiaquatic reptiles that still have enclosed teeth, and hippos and cetaceans all keep their teeth inside their mouths too.
Honestly I think the fact that crocodiles are related to dinosaurs gets very over-emphasised in comparison to modern crocodiles being crazy outliers in terms of their anatomy. They're a result of hundreds of millions of years of divergent evolution from their shared ancestry with dinosaurs.
So, when it comes to lips on spinosaurs, personally I would go with something like this:

Siamraptor
Tumblr media
Siamraptor was a genus of carcharodontosaurian dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous period. Its type species is S. suwati. The holotype was found in the Khok Kruat Formation in northeastern Thailand. Siamraptor is the first and currently only definite carcharodontosaurian known from Southeast Asia.
"Siam" is derived from the original name of Thailand, "raptor" is Latin for robber, and the specific name suwati refers to Suwat Liptapanlop, a supporter of the Northeastern Research Institute of Petrified Wood and Mineral Resources.
Its autapomorphies include a jugal with a straight ventral margin and a deep anterior process below the orbit, a surangular with a concavity and four posterior foramina, a groove along the suture between the surangular and prearticular, an articular with a formen at the suture with the prearticular, a cervical vertebra with an additional foramen that is excavating the parapophysis, and the presence of a pair of foramina at the base of the neural spine on the cervical and posterior dorsal vertebrae. Another possible autapomorphy specific to the genus may be a deep concavity excavating the posterior end of the lateral shelf.
Siamraptor is known from its holotype, consisting of a posterior right mandible including the surangular, prearticular, and articular; as well as referred material from three other individuals including three right premaxillae, a right and left maxillae, a left jugal, two posterior parts of the left mandible, three cervical vertebrae, a caudal vertebra, a manual ungual, a right ischium, a section of the left tibia, and a left pedal phalanx. Siamraptor was recovered as a definite carcharodontosaurian, though its relationships within the clade are uncertain. It may have been a derived member of Allosauria outside of Allosauridae or a basal member of Carcharosauria in a polytomy with Eocarcharia, Concavenator, and Neovenator.

interlusio (Abyssal Hunters)
AK/Kinktober 2023, Day 11: “Symbiote”
It is not that Gladiia has never conceived of it.
Landwalkers by Oripathy are blighted; she by blood is bound. A welt developed there upon her side; now pushed under, it remains lesser than a welt, suppressed by liefsome technological advancements. Her blood itself, now bound in return.
As her Hunters envelop her, as they close upon her naked neck, she recalls with great distaste a dream.
Her blood became flesh. Gladiia lived a hollow body and naught flowed through her, her knee cold against the floor in an empty court.
On her shone a spotlight. The comedy was her. The scene was established and faded. She could only kneel before it, and it writhed before her.
It writhed at her throat and disgusted her. It writhed at her jaw and disgusted her. It writhed at her nostrils and disgusted her. It writhed at her eyes.
It writhed at her ears and revulsed her. It writhed at her ramus and revulsed her. It writhed at her nape and revulsed her. It writhed at her epidermis, cervicalia, thoracicae, lumbaria, each and every of the foramina through which her nerves punctured the sacrum in her loins.
It writhed at her breast and sickened her. It writhed at her sternum and sickened her. It writhed at her interior chest and sickened her. It writhed at her aorta, through her ventricle, through her atrium, vile flesh slipping counter about her heart.
It writhed into her pulmonaries and filled her. It writhed into her air sacs and filled her. It writhed into her lobes and filled her. It writhed into her bronchi, upwards through her trachea, upwards through her larynx, upwards through her oral and nasal cavities, and out through her entrances.
It writhed into her oesophagus and sealed her. It writhed into her stomach and sealed her. It writhed into her small intestine and sealed and sealed and sealed her. It writhed into her ascending, then her transverse, then her descending, then her sigmoid, then shot down with great satisfied ferocity as though it could not fill her any further and plunged through her exit and sealed her.
Blood became flesh. Flesh became occupant. Occupant became one. She was bloodless. She was her occupant. She was replete.
Her chambers hosted flesh. Her arteries hosted flesh. Her veins hosted flesh. She was twined into a new state of lifeform, carbon in sublime configuration latent with eternal reconfiguration, unbeating and unabating.
It had left only one intactness in her. There was the one place Gla-dia had effected no change.
Broodmother.
"Captain? You're not all there," the voice of Shark chides, cooing at Gladiia's ear.
Ah. It is her Hunters' warmths, Skadi, Laurentina, Andreana, that caress sharingly, lovingly over her body as she reclines here. She soaks in the sensation of care, of bodily instincts strung down from higher, infinitely more arbitrary, complex, human sets of directives. Of selves that love each other in selfish ways.
She has conceived of this, entertained the possibility. But she has never, admittedly, entertained believing it would come. She is so, so very lucky, and it makes her mind quiver that she might be feeling this luckiness too.
"Shark," Gladiia snaps.
"Yes?" she responds, pulling away from her ear, listening.
"I trust you remember what 'fingers' means."
And Shark sing-songs her way to between Gladiia's legs, and her five digits press together to make her hand one sleek thickness, and it presses into Gladiia and lights up her cunt and her brain with another feeling, the pleasure of her subordinate's fingers exploring and caressing and widening her wet folds and the two that flank her playing at her clit and stroking her thighs and devoting themselves to her together as intimately as they can, and Gladiia closes her eyes in satisfaction, content to be awash in this dream she so very fortunately lives.

for your judging pleasure! From the 'Tombeau de Phelypeaux de La Vrillière'
Ooooo these fellows seem really familiar to me! The carpals are too regularly shaped and the top fellow has too few. Because of the thickness of the forearm bones they've lost some of the shape, also the end of the humerus doesn't look right, but it's not a position I can picture well enough to know what's wrong for sure. Think I can spot some foramina on the skulls, nice 5/10

opinion on sacrum lacing? (Not sure if you've brought it up before)
I haven't brought it up before! But it's definitely under-utilized and I had way more to say about it than I thought I would haha
Weaving ribbons or chains through any part of them is under-utlized, probably because it's not something we have a real equivalent for that we're able to personally experience. Yeah, sure, we have shibari, but there is nothing actually close to whatever it must feel like to have something woven through all those gaps. Through ribs, around clavicles, through radius and ulna, through fibula and tibia, through sacral foramina, through obturator foramen. The closest equivalent I could think of would be weaving it around individual fingers or toes and trying to get it as snug to the webbing as possible, but certainly that isn't anywhere close.
(Not being able to imagine things like that does end up causing avoidance or augmentation sometimes. It's one of the various reasons one might turn to ecto bodies instead. Goodness I wish we had more bare bones though. Really glad there's some who go that extra mile.)
I'd urge everyone to try and imagine it thoroughly!! When I try, it feels incredibly intimate and sensual.
And like shibari, I'd guess it's also a very slow and sensual activity. So many different intricate patterns you could weave, depending on the area. And not only the sensation of the ribbon itself, but of course the hands manuevering it. Without the intent to restrain, there's also the opportunity for the one being laced to hold on to the one doing the lacing; for their hands to wander, or grasp tightly when something especially sensitive is brushed. Or if it's all easy-to-reach areas, it could even be mutual, with both weaving their own patterns into each-other.
And when it's all done, it's basically really pretty lingerie. ゚☆;。+(*pq′ー`)+。;☆゚ This bow is part of the present, so don't unwrap it!
Or it really could be treated like nice undergarments, where it could be something they do for themselves rather than others. Wake up in the morning, feel kind of down about themselves, take the time to lace some ribbon through themselves to look really nice, and just wear it under their clothes to feel a little better all day. (Don't underestimate the mood boost from wearing cool or pretty undies! If you only wear plain undies, try something just a little fancy sometime.)
On a possibly less comfortable side of it, you could also weave them through all the openings in the skull. In and out of the mouth, nasal aperture, acoustic meatus, every gap of the mandible. Depending on how you view sensations in their skull to be, that could either be equally nice or torturous, haha
I've recently been testing different lacing styles for my boots. Each style can help with different problems depending on the style of boot, like adding support to different areas. I wonder if different lacing styles would feel distinctly different on the sacrum? What the standard criss-cross lacing would feel like compared to ladder or bar lacing.
I'm going to go write a few short sentences about a few brothers partaking in this lacing now ♡ Thank you, Anon

So I've been working on a European mount, macerating it. Now I definitely did a sloppy job in the start, it was December (although I'm in Texas) and didn't have a freezer up and running so I had to toss it in the bucket before I could deflesh it. Of course, that means that 6 months later I'm just now taking it out. I had to restart the process about twice because of the temperature, but I knew I was gonna have those issues. Anyway that's the process so far.
Now I've got it mostly macerated except for some flesh stick at the back of the orbital socket through some of those fragile holes there, and it isn't releasing easily. It won't seem to macerated off, and I think it's covered in a layer of grave wax that's made it harder. I don't have access to beetles and it's going to be hard to get all of it for sure with my fingers. Do you think just chucking it in my dawn solution would be helpful or harmful? I really value your expertise on this, as I've never had this specific issue before and your specimens are gorgeous.
Thanks for asking, and for your kind words! By Euro mount, I assume it's a deer of some sort.
Maceration works wonders, sure, but it can be messy (as you've found out). Cold temps don't only slow it down, they also form much more corpse wax. If it gets cold enough to freeze, it can kill all that hard-working bacteria, and possibly damage the bone.
Corpse wax has to be removed by hand. In deer skulls, it's often found where nerve tissues go, like in the foramina (holes), inside the cranium behind the auditory bullae, and the main nerve channel in the jaw. The brain is basically fat, so leaving it in makes more grease.
In addition, the skin slows things down, though not too much. I often macerate skin-on mummified things that are too rigid to be skinned. The worst part about that is the hair. It gets into everything. Maggots especially can stuff hair into crannies you didn't even know existed.
My solution to these problems is to let stuff sit in bags or bins until it stops freezing at night. Then after a week or two of maceration, the skin is often soft enough to pull off, hair and all. After removing it, I let the skull macerate more to finish up, which also helps degrease.
Hope this helps!

The only people permitted to attend the wedding were Nightterror’s gang + Sigil and Digit. Nightterror made sure of that.
————————————————————————
I loved drawing this one and all its little details, it was just so much fun. I love Nightterror and his overly done regal garb, while Mocha and Stalker are pretty casual. Mocha didn’t want it to be a big deal, just something for them.
Fluffynightkiller week belongs to @help-im-a-gay-fish Stalker, Cleaver, and Sigil belong to @bobateaboo Nightterror, Mocha, DB!Cross, and Soot belong to myself Digit belongs to both myself and @/bobateaboo
Day 2 Prompt: Something Old, Something New
More info and individual pictures under the cut
Tumblr media
[Panel one: a back view of Nightterror at a three quarter angle to his right. He is adorned in a cape that covers his right shoulder with a suit and moon shaped cufflinks. His hands are raised above his head holding his original crown, about to put it on. “Something old…”]
Tumblr media
[Panel two: a down view of Mocha’s left hand, an engagement band on his left ring finger. He is wearing a glove that covers his thumb with a loop on his middle finger, covering his wrist and arm. A skirt can be seen along with a wooden floor. “Something new…”]
Tumblr media
[Panel three: a front view of Stalker’s chest and soul. He is wearing an unbuttoned suit jacket and a button down shirt, using his left hand to straighten a necktie, a target shaped cufflink adorning his sleeve. His target shaped soul has a section in the upper right that is glitching slightly. “Something borrowed…”]
Tumblr media
[Panel four: three flowers are set out on the table. The flower furthest to the left is leaning on its side, with three large petals and two smaller petals in the back. It is labelled Lobelia erinus, commonly known as a Lobelia flower. The middle flower is sat facing front, with five petals of even size. It is labelled Plumbago auriculata, commonly known as a Plumbago flower. The flower furthest to the right is lying on its side facing inward, five large folded petals surrounding an internal funnel with foramina sticking out of it. It is labelled Gentiana acaulis, commonly known as a Gentiana flower. All the flowers, though uncolored, are blue in nature. “Something blue…”]
Tumblr media
[Panel five: Nightterror, Mocha, and Stalker are stood together. Nightterror’s head is facing fully profile to his right, standing with his right arm tucked behind his back which is covered by his cape, holding Mocha’s right hand in waltz fashion in his left. His body is facing fully forward, stiffly. He is dripping with corruption, tentacles tucked so they remain unseen. His legs are crossed in a classic ballet fifth position. He is wearing a high collared suit and tie, his lobelia pinned to the right chest area of his suit coat. His original crown adorns his skull. His expression is neutral, eyeing Mocha with a faint blush, mouth downturned. He is the furthest to the left from audience view. Mocha is facing fully front in the center. He is wearing a short sleeved button down shirt with puffy sleeves and a high rounded collar underneath a strapped flowing dress, along with long fingerless gloves with a v cut connected by a loop to his middle finger and an area of fabric covering his thumb. He has a flower crown of periwinkles adorning his head and a plumbago pinned to the right chest area of his dress. His right hand is rested in Nightterror’s left, while his left hand is clasping Stalker’s right. His expression is giddy and excited while slightly nervous, looking up and forward with a soft smile and a blush. Stalker is facing 1/4th quarter his left, his head turned to look toward Mocha. He is wearing a button down loose collared shirt, a long untucked necktie, and an unbuttoned suit jacket, as well as a pair of suit pants. His target shaped soul is at the center of his chest, no longer glitching with the Gentiana pinned to the right chest area of his suit jacket. His left arm is bent as he has his left hand in the pocket of his pants, his right hand clasped with Mocha’s left. His expression is amused and somewhat empty, left eyebrow cocked, his smile sharp. His empty sockets are leaking with corruption. His left eye socket has a small crack toward his cheek, and he has a second crack coming down from the left corner of his mouth. “And a sixpence in your shoe.”]
Who is Nightterror? Nightterror is a version of Nightmare created and conceptualized by @/bobateaboo and myself, designed by myself. His storyline is very similar the original, with its own twists and turns to it. He’s unintentionally involved in project Ra by his brother, Daydream, and his on-again-off-again ex-partner, Dapple (the Ink of the AU).
Who is Nightterror’s Gang? Nightterror’s gang is similar to Nightmare’s gang with its main components: - Cleaver (the AU’s Horror) - Soot (the AU’s Dust) - Stalker (the AU’s Killer) Now, things get a little mixed up once we get on the subject of Cross. The original Cross of the AU was Sigil, but Daybreak (another variant of dream, a swap this time) took quite a liking to him and “exchanged” (forcibly took and replaced) him for his own AU’s Cross, a smaller, poutier version of Sigil. Digit (the AU’s Error) is not exactly a part of the gang, but he comes in and out.
Who is Mocha? Mocha is this AU’s version of Ccino!Sans. He follows the main concepts of the original AU, but strays a bit in personality and actions. He still owns his little cat cafe, he’s just got a completely different fleshed out story outside of his work.
This AU does not as of now have a Mimic!Sans. Mimic!Sans is used with the actual versions of the characters, not the nightterror and daydream versions.
I do not claim to have created the characters, just these versions of them and the ones @/bobateaboo has made
Dream and Nightmare were created by @/jokublog Killer was created by @/rahafwabas Dust was created by @/ask-dusttale Horror was created by @/sour-apple-studios or @/horrortalecomic Cross was created by @/jakei95 Ink was created by @/comyet or @/myebi Error was created by @/loverofpiggies

Dushyant Verma Shillong - Spinal Stenosis – Causes, Symptoms, Treatment
Tumblr media
Dushyant Verma Maharani Bagh - Spinal stenosis is a condition that affects the spine and can cause pain, numbness, and difficulty in movement. It is important to be aware of its symptoms and causes as well as its different treatment options. In this Blog, Dushyant Verma Southern Avenue, explains what is spinal stenosis - what causes and symptoms are spinal stenosis, and which treatments are available.
What is Spinal Stenosis?
Dushyant Verma Shillong says, Spinal stenosis is a condition that occurs when the spaces in the spine narrow, putting pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots. This can result in leg and arm pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness. Spinal stenosis is most common in the elderly.
There are two types of spinal stenosis: central and foraminal. Central stenosis occurs when the central canal, which contains the spinal cord, narrows. Foraminal stenosis happens when the foramina, which are openings where nerves exit the spine, become narrower. Both types of stenosis can occur in any part of the spine.
Causes of Spinal Stenosis
Dushyant Verma Maharani Bagh says, The most common cause of spinal stenosis is aging. As we get older, the spinal column can narrow and the discs between the vertebrae can deteriorate. This can result in the growth of bony spurs, which can further narrow the spinal canal. Other causes of spinal stenosis include:
Herniated discs
Arthritis
Degenerative disc disease
Spinal injuries
Bone diseases
Tumors
Aging and wear and tear on the spine
Symptoms of Spinal Stenosis
The symptoms of spinal stenosis vary depending on the location of the stenosis and the severity of the condition. According to Dushyant Verma Southern Avenue, Some common symptoms include:
Back pain
Leg pain or cramping
Numbness or tingling sensations in the legs or arms
Weakness in the legs or arms
Difficulty standing or walking for extended periods of time
Weakness in the limbs
Bowel or bladder incontinence (in severe cases).
You should see a doctor if you have any of these symptoms.
How is spinal stenosis diagnosed?
Spinal stenosis is typically diagnosed through a combination of medical history, physical examination, imaging tests (such as X-rays, MRI, or CT scan), and possibly nerve function tests (such as electromyography (EMG) or nerve conduction studies). The doctor will review the symptoms, evaluate the range of motion, and feel for any tenderness in the affected area. Imaging tests can help to confirm the diagnosis and determine the extent and location of the stenosis.
Treatments for Spinal Stenosis
There are a number of treatments that can be effective in managing the symptoms of spinal stenosis. Depending on the severity of your condition, your age, and other factors, your doctor may recommend one or more of the following:
Physical therapy to benefit improve flexibility and strength
Anti-inflammatory medications to help reduce swelling
Corticosteroid injections to help reduce inflammation
Surgery to remove the bone or tissue causing the stenosis
Alternative Treatments for Spinal Stenosis:
There are many alternative treatments for spinal stenosis. Some of these include:
Chiropractic care: This is a form of manual therapy that can help to relieve pain and improve mobility in people with spinal stenosis.
Acupuncture: Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the skin. It is said to help with pain relief and circulation.
Massage: Massage can help to relax muscles and relieve tension in the back and neck. It can also improve blood flow and reduce inflammation.
Exercise: Regular exercise is important for overall health, but it can also be helpful in managing symptoms of spinal stenosis. Low-impact activities such as walking, swimming, and yoga can all be beneficial.
Dushyant Verma Maharani Bagh says, Spinal stenosis is a common condition that can cause significant impairment and pain if left untreated. Fortunately, this condition can be managed with the help of medications, physical therapy and/or surgery. It is important to be aware of the causes and symptoms of spinal stenosis so that you can take steps to prevent it or seek treatment as soon as possible. CERVICAL STENOSIS & MYELOPATHY MANHATTAN, NY
Cervical Stenosis is a relatively common condition affecting the neck region of the spine, known as the cervical area. Cervical stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal or the openings known as the foramina, that allow the spinal nerves to exit the spinal column. This narrowing happens for a variety of reasons, most commonly degenerative disc disease, arthritis, or other spinal compression issues. The narrowed area, and lack of space, causes compression in the spinal cord, and its surrounding nerves. Cervical myelopathy, sometimes known as Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy (CSM) is a condition in which the spinal cord becomes severely compressed, causing pain and other symptoms in the neck and upper part of the body. Often, as a result of the normal wear and tear of aging, the spinal discs and vertebrae begin to deteriorate and breakdown. As they deteriorate, they are forced out of alignment and become damaged, causing them to press against the spinal cord.
