hi mr flanagan
im from uruguay and ive always felt like even though i love horror movies, theres a different sort of feeling urban legends, folklore and just the exploration of horror (in literature mostly) when it comes to latin america.
while im sure this is completely normal to everyone whos not from the u.s because well, culture and heritage, i was wondering if you like any foreign horror films? if so, which are you favourites?
english is not my first language so im hoping ive got my point across...
much love
Oh my gods yes - I think overall that they represent some of the most exciting filmmaking out there. Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order: A TALE OF TWO SISTERS THIRST MARTYRS THE ORPHANAGE THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE REC THE WAILING RINGU AUDITION LAKE MUNGO LET THE RIGHT ONE IN THE HOST CRONOS SUSPIRIA TRAIN TO BUSAN JU-ON A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT HOUSE (1977) PULSE And I'm certain I'm forgetting a ton of great ones, sound off in the comments

Secrets in the Hot Spring is a modern Chinese Scooby Doo episode and everything that implies. A sweet story about family and friendship and shirtless guys. There’s a sight gag early on that made me laugh my full ass off.

Impetigore (Indonesian name: Perempuan Tanah Jahanam)
Tumblr media
This thrilling horror movie came out in 2019, written and directed by Joko Anwar.
The plot follows a woman named Maya. She decides to return to her home village with her friend/ business partner, Dini.
Without spoiling the plot, I wanted to talk about the beautiful representation of Wayang, meaning the dramatic performance of puppetry (originating from Java island). The puppeteer is accompanied by orchestras and usually performs behind a cotton sheet with a lamp behind it to create shadows. The Dalang, who is a spiritual leader and puppeteer, will usually perform from midnight to dawn. The audience members are able to watch from both sides of the cotton sheet.
Tumblr media
The puppetry featured in Impetigore is specifically Wayang Kulit. It features beautifully painted two-dimensional leather puppets.
I can't stress how much I love horror movies that give me cultural insights. Whether it involves traditional art forms/customs or current day cultural norms. It's fascinating, especially as an asian american.

The Mark of the Devil vomit bags I love. The movie not so much. Oh it’s good, I love a witch hunter movie and Lom and Kier are great, but it’s a (relatively speaking) realistic look at period torture which is a lot for us right now. Maybe not as much of it this year. 2 for 2 so far Germany, let’s keep that up…

31 Nights of Halloween Horror: day 30
My choice for today was a movie that’s been on my list since it came out, but came back to mind when it was recently mentioned to me, mostly because the other person didn’t know how to feel after seeing it lol, Lamb (2021)
Tumblr media
Well..... what to say about this movie lol. First off, I rated it 6/10. Decent indie horror movie. Very on A24′s vibe lol. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I started this movie, but I could have never guessed how it would end lol. I have so many unanswered questions lmao. Ok I’m not sure what else to say, so I’ll end it here. Watching the trailer, you’ll probably know if you’ll like this movie or not. I watched the trailer and knew it’d be weird and artsy and I’d kind of like it, which is exactly what happened lol.
