It's not always easy to discuss PTSD to even my loved ones. After all, PTSD is an illness associated with war and calamity survivors. I'm none of those things. So it's understandable that people, well-meaning or not, still find it difficult to understand the experience.

To future me, send this document to people who ask about PTSD. You're horrible at explaining when you're emotional, soo....

(For other hijackers, disclaimer that these are my personal experience. You're welcome to use this post as well, though.)

Being triggered is like this: you're aware that you can move. You're aware that you are in your room. You're aware that nothing in the room can hurt you, that whatever event that was is so far behind you.

But you don't move. You can't move because your hands and feet are consumed by pins and needles and the cold. It feels like you turned the aircon on at night while there's a downpour outside your window. No matter how many layers of blanket you wrap around yourself, you can't shake away the cold. What's worse is the sheer amount of pins you feel in your limbs. Every finger, every hand and foot is mercilessly assaulted by so many pins. There's so many needles going at you that you feel numb. It's like holding a massager on your hands and keeping it there.

mental/ emotional

Fear dominates you first. You are scared, for absolutely no reason. There is no immediate threat, no upsetting media on your TV. Regardless, you are scared shitless.

Then anger follows up. You think thoughts like:

It's unfair that I was treated unfairly.

It's unfair that I have to deal with this now.

It's unfair that I have to stop whatever it is I'm doing. There's so many shit I have to do, but I can't move and can't finish them.

It's unfair that I'm being called a liar.

It's unfair that there are so little people who can relate to you completely.

The anger, like I said, fills you up. The worse part about this is that your anger is justified. It is unfair that you have to go through this.

But you can't stay in this state forever.

Luckily, someone taught you how to.

You practice your mindfulness techniques.

Or you wait it out.

Or both when it's really bad.

It's legitimately a shitshow. It's bad.

But it stops, eventually.

I there! I am looking for a fic where Katniss has been captured by the capitol and Peeta is lifted by the hovercraft along with Finnic. He assumes the role of the mockingjay. I haven’t read it in a while so I’m hoping that you can help me out! Oh! And I think he might’ve lost his leg in this one, but I might be mixing it up with another fic. For some reason I remember him being in a bomb shelter with children and drawing on the walls?
