Hi! I was wondering, do you think you’ll ever write for she ra again? Your best friends squad series is probably my favorite thing ever.

This is a good question! And I'm deeply flattered you're asking - I'm delighted you like the series so much!

The short version is: yes. I have too damn many drafts and already-written-words that I love to never come back to spop and the BFS...

...but (and here's the longer version) I have no idea when I'll be able to do that. The thing about She-Ra is that I love it, and more than that I respect the hell out of it. It has gorgeously drawn, fascinating, consistent characters with fantastically distinct voices embedded in a brilliant narrative and an intensely creative world, and I've spent a lot of time and energy trying to do it justice. For me, that means spending a lot of consecutive hours getting into that place mentally and just kind of...living there. It's something I love doing. It's something I absolutely have not had the time to do this year.

Almost everything I've written and posted in the year 2022 has been compulsively drafted in about 48hrs, poked with a stick for about a week, and then dropped on the internet. It's all about pieces of fiction that I don't really respect enough to care if I get entirely right. (Not to mention, writing haphazard and inconsistent is basically the only way to show respect for Riverdale, glorious nonsense clusterfuck it is.)

There's other stuff there - some life events, a bit of psychology around validation and lack thereof - but that's all more personal and complex. The tldr here is that I love She-Ra too much to never write for it again, but respect it too much to post anything I've written for it anytime soon. I cannot in good faith tell you to stay tuned, but I can say that as long as I have a comedically massive WIPs folder for it, it's on my radar.

(i kinda fell down a hellcheer rabbit hole a few weeks ago lol) to keep with the theme of giving everyone two fics from different fandoms, there's An Antonym for Serenade by ForsythiaRising which is a riverdale fic with aro-spec betty!

🧠: guess what i'm going to talk about. just guess. (hint: it's riverdale again)

listen listen listen the fact that if you watch season one after you finish season seven it almost feels as though you're supposed to do that. they really said 'we will make a show about being trapped in the narrative' and they did!!! all the parallels btwn s1 and s7 are honestly too many to count and while i've seen some people say "watching s1 after s7 makes s1 seem so realistic" and like sure there isn't an angel who had to fight with time itself in order to keep a mass extinction event from happening but also in some ways s7 is looking at things in s1 through a looking glass where maybe sometimes some of the people will do the right thing or do the wrong thing but minus the murder or things are fucked up and murdery/nuclear bomb-related but it didn't completely rip the town apart the way it did in the presentpast of s1 and etc or what if more of them were explicitly queer actually. like yes several things are worse in s7 than s1 (arguably veronica's parents, obvs the homophobia and racism, the threat of the cold war, etc.) and there's no "but" to that sentence so yeah! the parallels!!! the returning to old plotlines!! cheryl trying to use archie as a beard/way to win her parent's approval kinda, mrs grundy appearing (altho the dynamic is completely different), mr blossom being the murderer, cheerleader leadership drama, mrs cooper wanting betty to act perfect to make up for polly's "mistakes", archie's struggle between balancing sports and art, etc etc etc. and then they all die and go to heaven (back to riverdale as teenagers again) and jughead is the one narrator to rule them all (since the other jugheads have presumably all been destroyed when tabitha merged everything into one single timeline) and maybe they're taking a position on how time travel works (the philosophical position that time is actually a circle and that the heat death of the universe will lead to the big bang and everything will play out the same way all over again) but they're definitely taking a stance on determinism and AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! absolutely buckwild anyway.

while i really love when they do something about a fucked-up town (17 at the end of the heathers ep was particularly poignant) i’ve gotta go with my bestie s7e14 Chapter One Hundred Thirty-One: Archie the Musical!! probably my favorite episode of s7 so far (although i wish tabitha was in it but that’s me about all of this season 😔) & it gave us archie going left archie going right + beronica cosmic destiny kiss + more layers of meta about being trapped in the narrative than you can shake a stick at which is what riverdale does best

five nothing kisses... unless? by peraltiagoisland - a fic where catra and adora have actually been kissing the whole time not just that time in the heart (the author has a massive ego especially about this fic. and it’s warranted bc it’s well written and has perfect characterisation. it has angst, fluff and pining yk, all that good shit. there is smut tho be warned. it’s also dedicated to me hehe 😌)

buried a hatchet it’s coming up lavender by erce3 - it’s a fic where catra and adora are stuck in the portal instead of angella (this one is absolutely fantastic, the author is really good at writing the fake portal realities and the tension and pining is god tier)

constant as the northern star by rushvalleys - a fic where adora dies and catra has to train the new she ra, there are many flashbacks (i found out on twitter this author and emollience are actually gfs, and they’re both amazing writers. what a power couple. anyway this fic is one of my all time favourites, it’ll make u laugh and cry and it’s just perfect)

learning curve by forsythiarising - a jealous adora fic (i actually haven’t read this one yet but it got quite a reputation and i’ve seen so many people sing praises about it so i’m reccing it solely bc it’s been recommended so many times)

seconds that i cannot replace by mogatrat - a what if catra and adora were falling in love the whole time but shadow weaver kept erasing adora’s memories fic (beautifully and Painfully written. pain. a lot of it)
