Cell phone notes:
I found a fossilised leaf last night that looked like an arrowhead on my evening stroll to collect materials for my art pieces from the abandoned stretch of highway near to where I live.
I started thinking about interventions I could make in the landscape there, sketched out a few ideas and began a piece which I'll go back to and finish on Sunday and photograph in black and white film with my 6×6 camera.
I'm still feeling rather shy about some of the bigger ideas I had yesterday and may wait until September to start making them.

From Madagascar, this rainbow ammonite has a beautiful iridescence and amazing texture. Around it, I have created a sterling silver prong frame to keep it secure in this rustic pendant with other handmade and nature-made treasures from my travels. It is an ode to all that is earthy and raw. Above the ammonite is a salvaged citrine quartz stone that I have wrapped in sterling silver and it connects to one of my own ceramic beads that I handmade at a small pottery in Nottinghamshire. It has an organic shape inspired by pebbles you'd find on a beach. In between is a chalcedony geode that I have cut and drilled myself and above that sits a matt finish Jasper fossil bead with crinoid inclusions and beautiful textures. Available in my Etsy shop. . . . #ammonite #rainbowammonite #iridescent #rainbownecklace #fossilnecklace #citrinequartz #ceramicbead #handmadetreasure #chalcedonygeode #jasperbead #crinoid #primitivejewellery #necklaceforhim #fossilhunter #rainbowiridescent #pearlessence #rusticstyle https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnm8eDet8rr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Fossil Hunting in Spiti Valley: The Ancient Secrets
Tumblr media
Nestled amidst the mighty Himalayan ranges, Spiti Valley stands as a geological and archaeological treasure trove waiting to be explored. Fossil hunting in Spiti Valley is a unique and thrilling adventure, offering enthusiasts the opportunity to unravel the mysteries of ancient life forms that once roamed this high-altitude desert. In this comprehensive exploration, we delve into the geological history of Spiti, the significance of fossil discoveries, the methods employed in fossil hunting, and the impact of these findings on our understanding of Earth's evolutionary past.
Fossil enthusiasts can engage in exciting expeditions, exploring remote areas of the valley to unearth fossilized treasures hidden within sedimentary rock layers. Spiti Valley bike trip can be an adventurous experience, which most young adults prefer to do. The beauty of Spiti Valley can be witnessed best on a bike trip.
There are more options to travel to Spiti Valley such as busses, trains, or private transportation.
Geological History of Spiti Valley:
Spiti Valley, situated in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, is characterized by its rugged terrain and extreme climatic conditions. The region's geological history dates back millions of years, with evidence of marine deposits, sedimentary rocks, and tectonic activities shaping the landscape. The valley was once submerged beneath the Tethys Sea, leaving behind a rich fossil record that serves as a time capsule of ancient life.
Tumblr media
During the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, marine organisms such as trilobites, brachiopods, and ammonites thrived in the Tethys Sea. The gradual uplift of the Himalayas, driven by tectonic forces, led to the emergence of Spiti Valley as a high-altitude desert. As the sea retreated, it left behind layers of sedimentary rocks, preserving a diverse array of fossils that capture the evolution of life over millions of years.
Significance of Fossil Discoveries in Spiti:
Fossil hunting in Spiti Valley has garnered international attention due to the exceptional quality and diversity of fossils found in the region. The fossils provide crucial insights into the evolution of marine life during different geological epochs. Researchers have unearthed fossils of extinct marine reptiles, ancient fish species, and plant remains, painting a vivid picture of the ecosystems that once thrived in this now-arid landscape.
One of the most significant finds in Spiti is the discovery of marine reptile fossils, including ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs. These creatures, resembling prehistoric dolphins and sea serpents, offer valuable information about the Mesozoic marine environment and the adaptation of life to changing conditions.

Living in the Paleozoic Era 🌿🦕🌏
Welcome to a journey back in time to the Paleozoic Era, a period of Earth's history that spans from about 541 million to 252 million years ago. It's a time of ancient landscapes, bizarre creatures, and dramatic geological changes. Let's dive into what life was like during this fascinating era!
🌍 Ancient Supercontinents: During the Paleozoic Era, Earth looked quite different from what we know today. The landmasses were joined together in the supercontinent Pangaea, surrounded by a vast Panthalassa Ocean.
🌋 Volcanic Activity: Volcanoes were a common sight, and they released massive amounts of greenhouse gases, creating a warm, tropical climate. Sea levels were much higher, with shallow seas covering large portions of the continents.
🌿 The Dawn of Life: Life was thriving, but it was vastly different from the species we see today. The first land plants appeared, bringing greenery to the barren landscapes. These early plants laid the foundation for terrestrial ecosystems.
🐚 Marine Wonders: The oceans were teeming with life. Ancient creatures like trilobites, nautiloids, and jawless fish ruled the seas. Corals began building reefs, while the first fish with jaws emerged.
🦗 Invasion of Land: One of the most significant events of the Paleozoic was the colonization of land. Arthropods, like millipedes and scorpions, were among the first to venture onto the continents. They were soon followed by amphibians.
🌅 Mass Extinctions: The era was marked by multiple mass extinctions, including the Ordovician-Silurian and Permian-Triassic extinctions. These events shaped the course of life on Earth and paved the way for new species to evolve.
🦕 The Age of Reptiles: By the late Paleozoic, reptiles had emerged, including the iconic sail-backed Dimetrodon. These reptiles were the ancestors of the dinosaurs that would dominate the next era.
🌄 The End of an Era: The Paleozoic Era came to a close with the Permian-Triassic extinction, the most devastating in Earth's history. It wiped out nearly 95% of marine species and marked the end of many Paleozoic life forms.
Today, we marvel at the remnants of the Paleozoic Era, from the fossils of trilobites to the geological formations that tell the story of this ancient world. Studying this era helps us understand the evolution of life on Earth and the forces that have shaped our planet.

June is inspired by my findings on the beach. We spend a lot of time in North Myrtle Beach and the beach is one of my favorite places to be. Shells are so interesting and beautiful. Their colors, patterns, textures, and shapes are incredible. I also really, really love to hunt for shark teeth/fossils. They are just so cool! In total, I've found 8 so far. I love picturing what the shark might have looked like, how old is the fossil, and when I find the next one?! The tiny fish are always swimming with the tide and when they brush up on you it feels terrifying, but they're so tiny and silly. Sandpiper birds are extremely entertaining to watch. How they sprint up and down with the tide in a frantic search is entertaining. I feel like I look like a Sandpiper when I'm searching for my shark fossils! I included my favorite picture of Gabe, Mark and I at the beach too 😊 #livejoyfully #beachlife #whimsicaldecor #illustratedart #beachshells #sharkteeth #beachfinds #wallart #wallcalendar #sandpiper #beachdecor #beachfinds #fossilhunting #beachartwork https://www.instagram.com/p/CmWunMcJQsN/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🦖🦕 It has been my dream to go #fossilhunting and I finally did! Andrew took me to #Ladonia for the weekend as an anniversary gift - was this the year of the #fossil?? So weirdly cold, but SO FUN! My best find was probably a fossilized bone, #fossilized vertebrae, and a mosasaur tooth. My #jurassicpark seems have come true!
