Fota / Cobh
This semester I joined first year animation on a tour to Fota Island wildlife park and Cobh town. We were to draw the animals at the park, and while I did do that, I found myself enjoying the wild crows of Cobh, as they approached me and let me feed them.

As I could not attend the Fota Island Trip, I used a much more convenient subject - my dog, Willow. I used charcoal in order to catch her very fleeting poses. I found it very difficult to draw her live and it took everything in me to not just use a video slowed down or photographs to draw from. It was a good gesture exercise regardless and it had me really study how Willow was moving and taking a mental picture of sorts. I also had to fill in blanks or wait until she made a similar movement to finish the pose.

Fota Island Drawing Trip
Our Fota Island trip was really nice, at the begining I was a little overwhelmed by the quantity of animals there it's to see, I sincerely didn't know where to start or how to do it.
I have never done live sketching with animals, it was hard beacuse unlike a model you can't aske them to hold the pose or anything.
What helped get the hang of it was just getting the basic shape of the pose in wanted, see where are the shadowsan lights, so then if the animal moves its fine because I already have the shape i just need some details, so i would study the animal to do the detailed part. This allowed me to not only sketch them but because i would spent some time looking at the animals for the detailes i appreciated theyre movement more.
I think it was a great creative exercise and I definetelly steped out of my comfort zone, It was nice to change the ambiance too, i think it gave us a fresh perspective and personally made me realized that i actually don't need much when it comes to drawing just paper and a pen. I am looking forward to keep live sketching not only animals but people, etc.

Drawing trip to Fota
Tumblr media
Our animation class went to Fota island for a drawing trip.
I enjoyed drawing the animals, it was my first time drawing animals in person so it was interesting.
There were some difficulties drawing the animals that moved a lot, and some animals were out of sight.
I also enjoyed the group bonding part of the trip. It was a good experience to get to know the group better, and to see how other drew the animals in their own style.

Step into the Garden
Step into the Garden
After last Monday’s post about the house on Fota Island, County Cork, it is worth noting that the immediate demesne, including one of Ireland’s most important late 19th/early 20th century arboretums, also survives and can be visited. To the rear of the main building lie a series of walled gardens which have been well-maintained by the Office of Public Works and at the top of these the Irish…

01|05|22| Project Statement
Tumblr media
This semester was dedicated to learning some basic foundational animation work and I enjoyed every bit of it.
I've been having a lovely time these last 5 weeks. From getting to know new people to team building activities and to Fota island, I think there was at something for everybody this semester.
Tumblr media
My favourite project to have worked on this semester mustve been the animated poster. There was something about the process of finding a poster and brainstorming ideas then leading to the puzzle filled activity of actually bringing the piece to life, that really instilled a confidence of what I can actually achieve in the medium with enough patience.
I'd pick a least favorite but it wouldnt do justice to how much fun I had in the several areas we worked in, everything had something to like.
I know next year wont be as "easy" but I'm really hoping I can keep up the confidence and enjoyment I carried throughout this semester into the future.

Drawings from the trip we took down to fota island in cork. I found it hard to draw the animals from real life as they moved around a lot and I would have to guess the angles I was drawing. The first two drawings on this post I done with photos I took after I came back from fota island I found it was easier and I was able to get a more accurate drawing of the animals

Trip to Fota island
This week we went on trip to Fota island in Cork. Our objective was to explore the zoo, and occasionally sitting down to sketch the animals in movement.
This exercise is to help us get used to drawing animals in motion in a primary setting. Seeing the animals up close instead of on our phones was fascinating.
I really enjoyed seeing everyone’s individual styles come through in their drawings. During the trip and near the end, we all traded sketch pads to see what each other had done and I loved seeing all the different interpretations.

Here some sketches I made from the trip to Fota Island trip yesterday. I found interesting to try and draw models that were continuously moving around, Its not something I've ever tried doing but I had fun doing it even though some of my drawings might not be the best. I also tried to use some different mediums when drawing but since I was new to drawing animals I mainly stuck to pencil as it's what I'm most comfortable with.
