This is not my cat.

This cat is a chattery fat boy who has decided he lives here, and is now inside the house. He's not a feral, he's too talkative and affectionate, and comfortable inside a house, so I guess there's a trip to the vet in my future to get him checked for a chip.

This morning I saw a young cat race across my yard to flee a brief rain shower, hiding under my shed.

I went out with a bowl of cat food to see if I could snap a picture.

Instead, I got about 3 pounds of mostly fluff and bone, the skinniest little cat I’ve ever laid hands on rubbing her whole fleatbitten head into my palm.

She seems to be unsure what sounds to make, alternating between the kitten-growl of trying to speak while eating, earnest whines and growls, mixed with enthusiastic purring.

She was so friendly. But also so scared, she kept leaning into pets, then flinching away and then creeping back to headbutt me as long as I didn’t make a sound.

Her tail is nearly as big as her whole body.

We brought her inside. I gave her a flea treatment, her own room to hide in, litter, food and water.

Posted about her on the lost/found pets boards of my town. She looks identical to a new feral kitten litter someone found, but she’s too old to be a litter mate and shows no sign of recent pregnancy.

When I went in this evening to check on her, she was more enthusiastic about being pet.

She hasn’t touched her food dish - now only eating if I was kneeling next to her, laying a hand on her somehow. Despite her noisy snarls and vocalizations, her other body language is open and curious, and she hasn’t lifted a single paw to scratch at me.

After dinner, she kept nuzzling my hand and demanding more pets (very itchy face)!, until she crawled into my lap and stuck her face into my elbow to purr and purr and knead into my lap. Relaxing into my arms. Utter confidence in her desire to be a lap cat.

This child-

I can’t keep her, I know I can’t. I already have two cats, plus other animals in aquariums and not enough space as it is.

She so thin.

She’s so affectionate, eager to feel safe and loved despite her obvious anxiety, and fear of humans.

She’s so beautiful! Even covered in flea dirt, she is a gorgeous cat.

I really think she’ll have a good chance of being adopted.

I’m going to give her a flea bath tomorrow, and try to socialize her as much as I can before we give her up.

For now, her name is Taquito. 🥰

We found a lost kitten and she's incredibly tiny. She has two collars (why?) so we know she's someone's. Unfortunately she's not chipped (vet thinks she's too young) so she's staying with us til we can find her owners.

She's VERY affectionate and keeps trying to suckle on my neck, which is weird but sweet.

Anyway if she looks familiar dm me and I'll give you more details, not gonna dox myself here 😅

After a very, very long 2 months... Mazda is home.

It would be two months today that she went missing. The neighbor called and said they thought they saw her in their yard this morning, so I set up a cat trap. Went back this evening to set up a camera and she was sitting beside it. Took a bit of calling and convincing and patience, and I finally have Mazda home again.

I'm gonna bring her to work today to get her checked out and make sure she's actually okay. Run some bloodwork. Maybe send out a viral panel because we dont have FIV/FeLeuk snap tests right now. Make sure she is actually healthy and okay.

I can not describe the feeling I have right now.

I got my flu shot/Covid booster yesterday with the intent of just being lazy this weekend but then a lost cat showed up at my door this morning. My older cat was very upset about this and has been hiding, even though I took her to a shelter hours ago.
