arranged | benedict bridgerton
pairing: benedict bridgerton x reader
authors note: forgot i had this in my drafts so i roughly edited it so i could post it. so if it’s a bit messy at the end, sorry about that! also i’m not very good at bridgerton dialogue or vocab so sorry if that’s also a bit rough :)
summary: benedict bridgerton has been in love with you since your were kids. and he will not stand there and watch you ruin your life with an arranged marriage.
warnings: angst, arranged marriage, gross old men
words: 3000+
Tumblr media
you had never been one for the fuss and feathers of which was a ball. you found it so very demeaning to women and not to mention, two-thirds of the men at every ball you found yourself at, were almost double your age. even though with each season passing, you grew older, the men still stayed at their very old age. it seems as if the ton were never running short of old men looking for young women to marry.
your very own debut seemed like it was forever ago; in reality, it really was. but every year you managed to pursue to the end of the season without a possible suitor wanting to court you, let alone want your hand marriage. your mama didn’t mind either. your father had left a large inheritance for you both after his passing, so she knew that when she did pass away, you would have enough money to support yourself for many, many years to come. so however you decided to spend your time at the many balls that you attended each year, whether it be finding a love match, or hiding away in the shadows, then so be it. it was your choice, and she would support you with whichever path you would take in life. she didn’t care what other people thought about your love life, which was a hard thing to do in high society.
your disinterest in balls and marriage was probably how you had become so close with the bridgerton family. the idea of marriage for a few of the family members was a displeasing one, to say the least. eloise was so very opposed to the way in which men and women became married in today's society. anthony barely even wanted to marry for love for the many years he had been out in the world and then there was the second eldest, benedict, who just hadn’t found his way in life and hadn’t even thought of marriage for many seasons. you had both found yourselves in similar predicaments and maybe that was why you had become close with the bridgerton man.
for the many years that your family had been friends with the bridgerton family, you had always gotten along with the second-born child of violet and edmund. you were closest in age to him, and basically growing up together, you had almost been attached at the hip since you could both walk. whenever you had found yourselves in each other's presence, there was never a dull moment nor a pause in conversation. you were truly grateful to have such a gentleman in your life to make up for the lack thereof in high society.
benedict had always been the one to stop you from being whisked away by strange men at every ball you both attended, and you to him. you would always be there with an excuse as to why he couldn’t dance with women you knew weren’t the right match for him. especially when you knew he wasn’t interested in anyone at the dance to begin with. some of the excuses benedict would make to rid the male suitors for you were absolutely outrageous at times, but he knew that they would always get a giggle out of you, and a sour look from them. you were truly grateful for how benedict would respect your wishes and help you with the tasks of turning away possible candidates. he was also thankful to you for helping prolong the happenings of another wedding in the bridgerton family.
though not even the actions of benedict bridgerton would be able to help keep away the old men of the gentry anymore. last week your mama passed away, pneumonia getting the best of her. you had been a mess, cooped up in your own empty house for the past couple of days, mourning the loss of your beloved mother. you knew that now that it was just you left in the house, that would mean that one of your forgotten relatives would be joining you in your home, to become the new head of the house. uncle roger, your father's brother, had always tried to weasel his way into your house, into your money, ever since your father had passed away. though your mother always opposed it and would find a way to keep him away. whether he was afraid of losing his connection to your family and the money, or your mother had something over him, he stayed away. up until now. you were now living alone in your house, without a husband or a head of household, so he was to move in. and you knew your days without a husband were soon to disappear.
-
“are you sure you are ready, y/n?” benedict asked you as you sat on the seat opposite him. the formalities of proper titles were dropped years ago, as you were all basically family. except you still insisted on still calling lady bridgerton by her title, because it felt right.
lady bridgerton had insisted you come to your first ball back, with her and her family, just so you felt some comfort being surrounded by people you knew, not sir y/l/n. “yes benedict. i promise.” you gave him a small, unconvincing smile, before standing to follow eloise out the door to get to the carriage.
“she can take care of herself…” lady bridgerton mumbled into benedict’s ear once you were mostly out of earshot.
“yes i know- it’s just as soon as she heads to that ball, i know her uncle will have suitors lining up for her out the door.” he sighs, placing his hand over his mama’s.
“she has avoided married life her entire adulthood, i am sure she can do it for another season. but if lord y/l/n arranges someone for her, there is nothing you can do about it.” lady bridgerton exited the room, hoping not to keep the rest of the family waiting.
“there are plenty of things i can do about it.” benedict mumbles to himself before following behind his mama.
-
benedict, eloise and yourself, once again found yourselves surrounding the refreshments table, not one thought crossing any of your minds to head to the dance floor.
you and benedict sipped on your champagne, as you both eyed uncle roger over the rims of the flutes. before you knew it he was making his way over to the three of you, well really you, with another gentleman following behind.
“miss y/n, i would like you to meet sir buford.” your uncle introduces the old man next to him, grabbing hold of your upper arm, “he would like to have this dance with you.”
“i would rather poke my eyes-” before you could even finish your sentence, your uncle was squeezing your upper arm with such a force, you were sure it would already be turning purple. “oh i’m sorry! of course i would like to dance with you!” you strained out, a fake smile plastered across your face
benedict almost spat his champagne out, becoming a spluttering mess. he looked to you to hopefully find humour in your reply, but all he was met with was a hurtful smile as you took sir buford’s arm. you didn’t even look back at benedict, hoping to seek refuge in the remarks he usually made to save you from your possible suitors. benedict was bewildered as to why you wanted to take to the floor with such a decrepit old man.
he reached out to grab your arm, turning you around whilst trying to be dragged off by sir buford. “what are you doing?” benedict slightly laughed, confusion etched over his face. he obviously knew you didn’t want to dance with this man, so why were you even entertaining the fact? but all you did was give him a pitiful smile before being dragged off even more.
benedict watched on as sir buford’s hands got a little too close for comfort against your lower back, a look of disgust formed on your face. he hadn’t seen you dance in such a long time, and it made him think back to the last time you probably did grace the floor. which was with him. he remembered how your face was much the opposite to what it was with sir buford’s hands on your own. it made him think how if he had ever had the courage to ask you to the floor again, you wouldn’t be in this situation. it wouldn’t be buford’s small hands slowly making their way lower on your back, it would be his own holding you with the respect you deserved. he would hold you so delicately in fear that you would crumble under his touch.
benedict quickly shook the thought from his head, scorning himself for thinking of you like that. he had always had held such adoration for you, always wanting there to be something more between the two of you. but he held too much respect for you and your feelings towards marriage. he would let you find your own way in the world, and if there was no room for another in your life, then so be it.
benedict had been so caught up in his selfish thoughts, he hadn’t only just managed to turn his attention back on to you as you had stormed out of the hall, a gloved hand raised to your teary eyes. without even thinking twice, he followed after you, mere seconds after the door had closed behind you. he opened it back up, calling out your name, the edge of your dress just slipping around the corner, out into the backfield.
“y/n!” he called once more, watching you rush out into the grass, not once turning back to look at him. you stopped at the edge of the dam, just as benedict had finally caught up to you. “y/n? what is the matter?”
you turned around, the look of your glassy eyes reflecting the moonlight, caused benedict’s heart to shrink in its cage. he had never seen you this distraught in your life. “uncle roger..he uh-“ you stammered on your words, trying not to let the tears fall down your cheeks. “he’s arranged for me to marry sir buford. the wedding is next week!” you sourly laughed at how daft you sounded.
you watched as benedict’s jaw went slack, his eyes widening momentarily. he swallowed deeply before replying, “he what?” was all benedict could muster the courage to say. the words failing him in front of you for the first time ever. you and him always had so much to talk about, but for this once he could not think of a single word he could allow to leave his stupid mouth.
“i cannot,” benedict clears his throat, stammering over his words just like you, “we cannot allow that to happen.” benedict obviously knew how arranged marriages worked and how there were very few ways to escape them.
“what do you mean, we cannot let that happen? there is absolutely nothing anyone can do.” you choked out a laugh, which quickly turned into a sob rattling throughout your chest.
your sobs quickly turned into sharp and painful breaths being pulled from within your lungs, your skin suddenly feeling as if it was on fire. you paced back and forth along the bank of the dam, your chest screaming for more air than it was possible to allow it. your hands were aching to be freed from your gloves, reaching up to your arms to try to pull the silk off.
you groan in frustration when there was no ease to getting them off, “ugh why won't they come off!” before you could ruin the fabrics by ripping off the expensive piece of clothing, benedict is at your side helping you slide them off.
“here let me help…” you look up at him as his face is mere centimetres from your own. as he pulls the last of the second glove off, he looks down at your face, his breath tickling your cheeks.
you feel his arms around your own, causing you to shift a little, but benedict’s face never looks away from your own. you quickly snap out of your daze, pushing benedict off you with your now glove-less hands.
“stop.” you let out a shaky breath, raising your hands to your eyes, to wipe the remnants of the tears that were on your cheeks.
“stop what?” he looks at you as if he’s done nothing wrong, his stupid doe-eyes looking back at you, and you swear you could’ve kissed the smirk off of his face right then and there.
you had always had feelings for the man in front of you, but you never had them as strong as you did right now, as he stood there, with only the moonlight illuminating his figure. you weren’t sure if it was because you had such an emotional week from your mother's passing, or if it was the sudden arranged marriage you had learned of 10 minutes prior. but you had never felt more love towards benedict than you had at that moment.
“someone could see us…” you mumble, stepping away from him, looking around in hope that no one was near.
“that may not be too unfortunate,” he replies, that smirk still on his face.
“what could you mean by that, benny?” his nickname falls off your tongue and you regret it straight away. given your current situation, you felt as though it wasn’t appropriate to use. you slouch forward, fiddling with your gown in your hands.
“when have you ever cared if someone was watching, y/n?” benedict laughs, stepping closer to you.
“it does not matter what i used to think anymore, benedict. all my thoughts and feelings are irrelevant now that i am to have a husband.” you laugh again for the third time that night. “i do not know what i am to do.”
tears well in your eyes as benedict makes his way over to you, “i think i know what we can do.”
“you keep saying we, benny.”
“yes, because i can help you.” he smiles, placing his hands on your cheeks, using his thumb to rub your skin. you frown up at him as he leans in to passionately place his lips against yours. at first you freeze, taken aback by his actions. but it doesn’t take long before you’re putty in his hands. you relax against his frame, kissing him back as his hands move to the middle of your back.
you both pull away breathless, your arms still around each other, “how does that help in any way, mr bridgerton?” you smile up at him, him mirroring your expression.
“because i am very well sure that you cannot get married if you are already courting someone. especially if no one has actually proposed yet.”
“that would never work.” you wave him off dismissing his thoughts, knowing that your uncle would never allow it.
“yes it will.” he grabs ahold of your hands, getting down on one knee, the biggest grin you’ve ever seen gracing his face. “will you marry me?”
your eyes go wide as you grab hold of his upper arms to try to hoist him back up off the wet grass, “what are you doing?!” you laughed.
“y/n i know this is outrageous, but i’ve never been more certain of anything in my entire life.” he grasps your hands even tighter, studying your features for any changes to suggest he really should shut up. “i have loved you ever since i knew what true love was. i have loved you all the times we had been together and all the times we’ve been apart.” he stands back up, needing to be eye level with you to finish what he was saying.
“i know i have had our entire lives to confess my feelings to you, but i knew you did not want marriage. it has never been on your mind. but i cannot stand here and watch you throw away the rest of your life, married to a man who will not care for you nor show you the love that i will.”
you stood there, so unbelievably shocked at his confession. you always had a hope in you that your feeling towards benedict were reciprocated and now he was really here in front of you, proposing. you could’ve sworn it was all a dream.
“yes.” was all you say back to him. maybe his little plan would work. and even if i didn’t, you didn’t care. you would run away with benedict bridgerton and never come back if it meant that you could spend the rest of your life with him, and not with a man who didn’t allow you the time of day nor show you any respect. something you knew benedict was capable of because he had been the best man in your life since forever. there was never a day that went by where he didn’t care for you and show you the respect you deserved.
“yes?” benedict let go of the breath he was holding in, his face lighting up.
“i mean there are worse things in the world.” you giggled causing benedict’s face to drop, a hurt look playfully replacing the last.
“i beg your pardon?” he dramatically gasps, lightly pushing your shoulder.
“i am only kidding. all in good laughter.” you smile at him, taking your hands in your own, “i could not think of any better way to live my life, than to be with you. i could not envision my future without you by my side. i never have.”
you think deep down you had always seen your future being spent with the brunette boy you had grown to know and cherish ever since you were little. so when all of that had been taken away from you in the blink of an eye, you realised how badly you wanted to be with him.
“neither have i. you have always been in my life, and you always will be.”

State of the Fic
This month, I’m very proud of myself for managing to write exactly 3000 words for five straight days. It might seem like a little thing, but I really like the way it makes my daily word count graph look; it gives me a little serotonin boost when I look at it. I’m still working my way through the birthday prompts and on the last of my MTH fics, so lots of fun stuff coming up in the next month!
WIPs
No WIPS!! Or at least, nothing that goes in this category. I’m still writing FoNY, but that goes in the Coming Up section.

We Stand, Fate-Tested: Final Thoughts
You thought you’d seen the last of that title? Never! I may have been distracted by Sylvgrid Week for a while, but I finally got this cleaned up enough to post.
So, to those of you who haven’t read We Stand, Fate-Tested, this post is going to spoil practically the entire fic, so do yourself a favour and read the fic HERE. This post is also very, very long, so I apologize if you read the whole thing aha.
Anyways, continuing on, I wrote over 70 000 words for this story and this was after two solid weeks of story editing to get the fic not to come across as incredibly clunky. I want to use this post to discuss my favourite and least favourite things about writing the story and to talk about some of the things I had planned that never made it into the final draft or things that were changed to fit the flow of the story better.
Let’s start with my favourite and least favourite things!
Favourite Chapter: VII - What’s A Little Fear (I loved this chapter. It was a blast to write, creating the duality of the attacks as well as finally tapping into the mystery genre I stubbornly tagged this fic with. It’s also one of my favourites to reread).  Favourite Present Scene: Either Byleth/Claude in the coffeeshop (Chapter III), the car crash scene (Chapter VII) or the Byleth/Claude scene in the bathroom (Chapter VIII) Favourite Past Scene: Either Byleth/Dimitri’s first reunion (Chapter II), the Sreng fight scene (Chapter IX), or Dimitri’s death scene (Chapter X) Favourite Character to write: Past!Dimitri, Present!Edelgard, Present!Claude (probably no surprises there haha) Favourite Plot Detail: Byleth having a flashback in the tomb and then going to the lab and having that scene play out later, in Chapter XI, in the past.
Least Favourite Chapter: XI - No Rest For the Weary (Don’t get me wrong, I like how it turned out. I just had so many things that were scrapped for this part and something about it still doesn’t sit with me as well as I wanted it to. It was hard to write a past section without the anchor for the past: Dimitri) Least Favourite Present Scene: Probably the lab scene with Byleth (Chapter I) where she looks up Claude because it was written so early and it still feels a bit info-dump-esque to me. Least Favourite Past Scene: Hands down Byleth’s final scene (Chapter XI). I do feel like it came out alright, but I really struggled with this scene. It was tricky to highlight everything I needed to in that scene without removing all the development Byleth had gone through.  Least Favourite Character to write: Many of the undergraduates in the present. It’s not that I didn’t like them, I was just frustrated because the future was focused so heavily on a few key characters that none of the background characters had the voices I wanted to give them. Least Favourite Plot Detail: The Scorch and the Riots. I specifically crafted them so that there would be a plausible excuse for the physical records to have been destroyed and yet I feel like I relied too much on them in some cases.
Now let me talk about plot details that almost appeared!
Starting with some general facts:
The Golden Deer were supposed to be MUCH bigger characters in the present. I had programs, relationships, interactions and plot points hinged on their interactions with Byleth and Claude, but I ended up scrapping a lot of it when I moved forward with the undergrad dig team plot and decided to bring in Edelgard and Dimitri more.
They were supposed to go to Shambhala. Instead of at Garreg Mach, the final attack was actually supposed to take place while at a dig site in Shambhala. After research into archaeology more as a whole, I realized this didn’t fit, so I removed it.
I considered having Jeralt be alive in the present.
I was going to write more dreams for Byleth and actually have them as independent scenes.
Byleth was supposed to make two separate trips to Almyra in the past.
The fic was originally only 10 chapters and would have ended abruptly in the past.
Rhea was supposed to make an appearance in the present.
Chapter Specifics:
Chapter I
Ironically, the only real trick with this is I considered renaming the university, but ended up leaving it.
This chapter was actually mostly written before much of the plot was hammered out so it can read a tiny bit inconsistently to me now, but there’s not much I left out of it.
Chapter II
Initially, I had all three of the reincarnated lords in Byleth’s tutorial, but then I remember that that never happens in university courses so I fixed it. I hadn’t planned on introducing the Guardian’s Sword here, but I did accidentally and then just rolled with it.
Byleth and Dimitri’s Chapter IV argument was originally in this chapter. They were also originally married in between Chapters I and II, something which changed to between III and IV once I changed this chapter.
Chapter III
Dimitri was supposed to tell Byleth that he was having odd dreams before he found out about the dig project in the present. This chapter also would have had a vivid dream scene before Claude and Byleth’s tea conversation lasted 3000 words.
Claude was supposed to be a cause of strife in Byleth and Dimitri’s relationship in the past, but then I decided that was stupid and changed him to play the voice of reason. Additionally, this chapter changed a lot as a result of the moving of the wedding.
Chapter IV
This chapter was, again, supposed to feature a Byleth-brand dream, but I changed it to the scene in her office with Claude to set up the Almyra trip. This was the moment in the story where I had decided to make Claude the Almyran Prince. Before this, he was just an ambassador’s son.
Claude in the past was supposed to give a wedding gift to Byleth and Dimitri, but this was changed when I had him attend the wedding. Byleth and Dimitri were supposed to argue about Byleth and Claude’s friendship, but as I already said, I didn’t want Claude to be a source of jealousy.
Chapter V
This chapter actually stuck fairly close to the points of the outline I made. The only point I struggled with was having the tapestries be mostly ruined or preserved and I eventually landed on preserved.
The council meeting was an addendum to the chapter written after the heavier scene at the end. I added it to give a bit more background to Byleth being in Fhirdiad and the way that her relationship with Seteth and their friends would become a bit more strained in the future.
Chapter VI
This chapter was supposed to highlight the argument alluded to in the chapter between Dimitri, Edelgard, and Claude. There was supposed to be a little bit about how the tomb seemed to be dragging up animosity that didn’t previously exist. I removed it because I wanted more space to discuss the dream and the scene with the TV.
The past section was supposed to feature more political drama. There was supposed to be a cabinet meeting that showed the progress of divorcing church and state and siphoning the power away from the nobility, but I came up with the idea for the Rhea scene which I ended up liking a lot more, so I rewrote the chapter, almost completely removing the politics.
Chapter VII
This chapter actually almost exactly follows its outline. The four go to Fhirdiad and deal with their pursuers and end in a car crash.
The only change in the past was that it originally ended with the infirmary scene from chapter 8, but I changed it to create a stronger parallel between the past and the present by ending both on relative cliffhangers.
Chapter VIII
The present section of this chapter was actually one of the first scenes I ever outlined for this fic. Naturally, there wasn’t much that was left out. I scrapped a few interactions with people including Dorothea, Sylvain, and Mercedes in order to give Byleth and Claude more time to chat in the bathroom. Basically, the point of the party was to really highlight the fact that while reincarnation had occurred, everyone had ended up in different situations with different people.
Originally, Byleth was supposed to have recovered well from the assassination attempt and it was supposed to be Dimitri who took longer to heal. Because I was already leaning into the dying-goddess idea though, I swapped them to make it more impactful when Byleth still tries to go against all of her advisors to get Claude to take her to the Slithers.
Chapter IX
Byleth, here, was only supposed to begin to suspect Flayn. I considered having her not even speak to Seteth and Flayn, but I changed that because I think I wanted her to know at this point. However, it was only when I began writing the chapter that I realized that Seteth would know the Archbishop’s full name, so that tidbit was actually the very last thing added to this chapter.
I wrote the past section of this chapter first. It was fairly cut and copy from the outline so not much was left out here, just one small scene where Byleth and Dimitri saw Claude off when they were still mad at each other and they would have been awkward.
Chapter X
Originally, Leonie was going to be the one to find Claude and Byleth in the alley, but I liked Edelgard and Hubert for it better. This is where Rhea would have appeared in the Modern section. She would have come looking for Seteth before the send-off party started and would have had a crypt conversation with Byleth, but instead, I changed her simply to be the mysterious benefactor that funded the original expedition and removed her physical appearance for flow purposes.
The only big change seen in the past section here, was that Claude and Byleth were supposed to bring Dimitri outside of Shambhala before he died and he would have died seeing the rising or setting sun. When I wrote the cave-in this was changed to match that.
Chapter XI
Since Byleth was originally supposed to have had a different conversation with Seteth in chapter 9, when the four of them were running for the gunman, they would have revealed their ancestry and connections to the past lords which would have been the point that Byleth actually connected all the dots.
Byleth and Claude were supposed to be en route to Almyra after dissolving the monarchy when she started to die, causing him to take her back. I changed this because it didn’t fit with the futility of so many of the actions that Byleth had taken after Dimitri’s passing. I also just really wanted her to have the ‘I never intended to return to the Monastery’ and the ‘I hadn’t planned on living this long’ lines.
Chapter XII
Claude was supposed to be with Dimitri and Edelgard when they said goodbye. There was supposed to be strange tension between them, but it didn’t fit with their interactions inside the tomb, so I just sent him back to Almyra to coordinate his abdication instead. Originally, there would have been a shootout in the tomb as well, resulting in Byleth actually killing the gunman, but instead I used their escape to give Seteth and Flayn a reason to disappear. This is one of the points I was most tentative about changing and is one of my least favourite things that I changed in the whole story.
The past section was originally just supposed to have been Claude admiring his commissioned tapestries, but I couldn’t resist adding a Hilda in because I love her.
That’s pretty much it for all the plot details and changes. And that’s pretty much everything I have to say about the story. This fic was a labour of absolute love and it has given me an incredible appreciation for the writers in fandoms who can continue stories into the tens of chapters because I found my plot tied up in a neat little bow at 12 chapters.
If you have any more questions, please shoot them to me on Tumblr, in the AO3 comments, or even on Twitter (@nicolewrites37) and I’ll be happy to answer them.
Thank you so much to everyone who read, commented, and left kudos on the fic because knowing that there were people waiting to see more was the reason I was able to continue writing and finish the fic. I hope you enjoyed the story overall and that you might find something else you like amidst my other Three Houses works.

1826 Wednesday 19 April
7 20/60
11 1/4
Read over and sent by George the note I wrote last night to Washington and the 4 notices I desired him to deliver today one to each of the firm of Messieurs Walsh, Hinchcliffe, Oates, and Green, saying that my father’s tenant John Bottomley had complained he could not get them to fence off the coal-road as was agreed, and if they did not do it ‘within the space of 10 days from the date hereof’....John Bottomley should be ‘empowered to keep the gate locked and to prevent their making any use of this said road’ - Read over and gave to George for the P.O. (at 7 3/4) my letters written yesterday to ‘Mr Murray Bookseller Albemarle Street London’ and to ‘Mr Colburn Bookseller Burlington Arcade London’ vide the last few lines of page 167.
James Sykes came - Charles Howarth junior cannot will not have the rail-posts gas-tarred there - I shall go and see by and by how the matter is - Sent James Sykes off (at 8 3/4) to seek hollys at Huddersfield of wherever he thinks he can get them - wrote the above of this morning, and set off to Halifax at 8 50/60 to see Mr Parker about Mrs Lees’s note - (having 1st gone to Charles Howarth’s to ask about the rail posts - young Charles civil - said he wanted them to be reared against the shop end for fear of the children’s [?] themselves - thought it best to seem satisfied, and said I had ordered William Green with the cart to take the posts and rails too immediately into Lower brea lane) - about 1/4 hour at the office of Messieurs Wiglesworth and Parker - Mr Parker had just sent me a note along with a form for the risiduary account of my uncles will - by George which George seeing me go there brought back to me - ‘Mr Scatherd does not seem inclined to give anything like an adequate rent for the premises’ at Northgate that we have done with him - Mr Parker to ask Mrs Lees £60 a year for the house and coach house - mentioned to him that while times continued so bad, we might might make some allowance, some return of rent, but this to be talked of after we knew what Mrs Lees would give - Briggs refused to honour the draft - neither Mr Stocks senior nor junior would pay it - but Mr Parker had this morning got the money (a man brought it while I was at the office - from Briggs’s bank I suppose) and I received it, £15.16.1, on behalf of the commissars of the Brighouse and Denholme gate road, the remaining £50 being to be secured on the road - Messieurs Wiglesworth and Parker had sent up John Williams the appraiser to value the furniture plate etc etc previous to making out the residuary account belonging to my uncle’s will - Mr Wilkinson of Heath, surrogate, will meet me here respecting the probate -
Returned as I went along the old bank and got home at 10 25/60 - Mrs Firth and her 2nd daughter came almost immediately afterwards she brought her bill, at 2 months, for £25 for me to accept and which I did accept - Told her very civilly I was going to leave the country, and should leave orders with my steward to pay her her money at the day, as it became due - while she lived in Halifax this would be the best plan - my late uncle wished it - She begged for time begged me not to do it all at once - I said I would do the best I could for her, and would settle this matter with my steward, but must have the money paid on the day it was due - there was now no occasion for bill-drawing - she leave Halifax she might again have this accommodation, but not otherwise - She wishes to get her oldest daughter aetatis 22 and of whom she speaks most highly the place of a companion in some family - she could instruct young children - I set my face against this - mentioned a lady’s maid place - promised to let her know if I heard of one, and, if on making inquiries respecting her daughter I found them answered to my satisfaction, promised to recommend her - said I could give her no hope of succeeding, but I would remember her - Had wine and biscuits in and was as civil as possible - both Mrs Firth and her daughter seemed much affected, and behaved very well and properly - said I was much engaged and left them at their wine and water - (they went very soon afterwards) - and sat down to breakfast at 10 55/60 -
Read, partly aloud, the 1st 34 pages Matthews’s Diary of an invalid - came upstairs at 12 5/60 - wrote the last 26 lines - settled my accounts which too me till one - then came downstairs - Mr Parker soon afterwards came bringing a written list of all Mrs Lees would want doing at Northgate house for which, all these things being done which will cost at least £100, she will give £80 a quarter - a new entrance to be made to the cellar - a window to be broken out under the stair case window into the little back court, and a new cabinet d’aisance to be there made, etc etc to meet Mr Parker at Northgate (to look about all these things) at 3 1/2 -
Went down into the fields - the 2 young men gas-tarring the railing round the bottom of the Dolt wood - got to Northgate about 3 - settled in my own mind - Mr Parker came as appointed - thought Mrs Lees would be well satisfied - the house to be ready for her to enter upon the 1st of September - she wants to have a lease for 10 or at least 5 years - so advised by Mr Edwards of Pyenest - if she did not live, it would be a home for her grandchildren - said we did not like to tie up our property for so long - would agree to a lease for 5 years, but Mr Parker was not authorized to say for longer - Staid talking to my father and Marian, and looking about - Mrs Lees will not have the walk which we think of throwing to the field, nor the room and chamber over it next to the stable which it struck me let off as a cottage -
Got home at 6 20/60 - Mr John Williams the appraiser had not quite done - Dressed - dinner at 6 55/60 - Mr Williams sent in his valuation - I noted the following items silver plate £160.7.6 - Farming stock, including our gig horse, £165.5.6 - my uncle’s wearing apparel £15.4.3 - Books in the library £30 - Drawing room furniture £18.9.6 - Furniture in my aunt’s lodging room £27.9.6 - etc etc making altogether a total of £675.4.2 - the furniture at Northgate is still to be valued - I fear we cannot make the personalty come under £3000 - tea and coffee at 8 3/4 - Afterwards wrote the last 16 lines - very fine day - Barometer 1 degree above changeable Fahrenheit 52˚ at 10 p.m. at which hour came up to bed - my aunt not so well today - bad night last night after being out yesterday in Mrs Rawson’s (of Stony royde) Bath chair - much shaken - very rheumatic (acute rheumatic pains) today, and hardly able to stir - Told Mr Parker I would rather meet the surrogate at their office - did not wish him to come here on account of my aunt - the occasion would only distress her - to meet him probably on Tuesday next - wrote a note to Mr Freeman to go early in the morning to ask him to fix an early time for calling here - I want to settle about the stone, and want ‘£500 or more, or less, at present as may best suit Mr Freeman’ -

Hello! I've recently found your blog after I read through a lot of your fanfics on AO3, and I wanted to thank you for all those fantastic works of yours. You put so much love and care into them; not to mention the huge amount of talent that you have for writing is just amazing on it's own. (I'm actually considering playing RDR mainly because I want to read your fanfics about it.) But since this is still an 'ask': Have you got any advices or tips in general for beginner writers? Have a good day!
aaaaAAAA THIS IS ;___; SO SWEET
Thank you so much 💗 I’m always so touched when people follow my work through different fandoms, it’s the biggest compliment you can give a fic writer!! and please enjoy RDR2 it’s a great game hhh
As for writing advice, I feel everyone’s on their own unique journey when it comes to writing and creative work in general. Over the years I’ve noticed a few things about my own writing process that might help y’all out though:
✒️ You know those little lines that occur to you late at night or on the go? Carry a little journal with you and write them down! You never know what may come from one (1) good line.
✒️ Writing is more than just the physical act of putting words on a page. Everything you do - thinking about your story, worrying about the next twist, daydreaming about dialogue and future scenes - is all part of the process. Being productive isn’t tied to a certain word count at the end of the day.
✒️ Writer’s block? Usually it means you’re working on something outside of your comfort zone. That’s good! Challenges enable you to grow. Don’t despair and keep thinking about your story, you will find a solution and it will feel so good when you do!
✒️ Research, research, research. Writing almost automatically involves writing experiences that are not your own. Listen to and learn from marginalized voices - good representation is worth every bit of effort you invest in it.
✒️ In general, use mixed media to get some writing done. If that blinking cursor is putting too much pressure on you, try writing on a scrap of paper, or type a little on your phone, or work with post-its to visualize where you’re going! A change in format might jumpstart your thought process so you can continue later on. (I tend to keep my newest draft/prompt/idea on a google doc to access it over my phone and be less dependent on my laptop to make progress on a story.)
✒️ Finished, not perfect. Try to wrap up your projects and accept their faults as part of your journey. For example, I struggle to finish anything longer than 3000 words, so I’ve changed the way I structure my stories to accomodate shorter chapters and prevent getting stuck further down the road. It doesn’t mean you’ve given up on more challenging projects, just that you’re taking a more pragmatic approach until you’re able to tackle them head-on.
✒️ Scared your dialogue sounds stiff and/or unnatural? Reading every line of dialogue out loud will help you spot those bits that sound a little off. Otherwise, try to pay attention to the speech patterns of people around you. Note e.g. that repetition is completely normal and helps with the flow of what your character is saying.
✒️ It’s okay to write things that have been done before. It’s okay to base a story on a cheesy trope you love, or an AU that a fandom has seen 1000 times already. Creative work is largely based on citation, whether implicitly or explicitly - it’s the way you use those citations and transform them with your voice and style that makes your story unique.
✒️ Be inspired, not jealous. Viewing your peers not as competition, but as a source of inspiration and mutual support helps you focus on what’s important. Fandom spaces are collaborative in nature, and it’s up to us to keep it that way. Beta-read a stranger’s story, share your knowledge and experience, credit those who helped you along the way and always, always uplift your fellow writers with kudos, comments, and by sharing their work.
✒️ Last but certainly not least, be self-indulgent! Write the stories you want to read. Life’s too short to write anything but what makes you happy. Everything else will follow when you’re doing what you love.
I started writing fics because I couldn’t find what I wanted to read and I decided to do something about it. In the end it all boils down to saying “fuck it” and just going for it! There’s not much to be lost, and everything to be gained after all.

My Favorite Writing Stuff
One of the best things about writing is that all you need is a pen and paper!  But we all have our favorite tools and luxuries, and I thought it might be fun to talk about mine below the cut.  Lotsa pics, long post.
Word Processors
Scrivener
The single writing item I use most is my word processor, Scrivener, by Literature and Latte.  At some point waaaaaay back in 2012, I found myself writing Growing Up with You in Microsoft Word...  And having to wait ten seconds for the screen to adjust and load new text as I scrolled.  It was just too danged long for the program to handle.  Just reading my manuscript was a nightmare, let alone copying and pasting to move text, shuffle paragraphs, etc.  Making a new doc for each chapter quickly became a clunky chore.
THEN I FOUND SCRIVENER, AND IT’S THE BEST.
Scrivener is... not very user friendly; there’s definitely a learning curve.  But it was immediately so much better for writing long fiction than Word that I bought a book on the program and read it from cover to cover, which...  I don’t think I’ve ever done before.  That’s how much of a game changer this was.
The feature I rely on most is the binder.
Tumblr media
This is the binder for Four Years, which currently has...  Forty-eight chapters.  I corralled the chapters into two folders, one for the first year of college (1), and one for the second (2).
Tumblr media
If I click folder 1, all of the chapters appear, each snug in their own folder.  Once the Scrivener file loads, there is no further loading time.  Each folder can be moved by clicking and dragging, as can each text file inside each folder.  FREEDOM!
This feature alone was worth the price of the program.  They offer a free trial, so please check it out if you’re interested!
Portable Word Processors
I’ve mentioned these before, but I have two portable gadgets that allow me to write on the go, distraction free.
Alpha Smart Neo 2
Tumblr media
This might look like the baby of a toddler’s toy computer and a keyboard, but it’s actually my baby.
Just kidding!  Sort of!  The Alpha Smart Neo 2 is a portable word processor that boots up in a second, is powered by three AA batteries for eons, and weighs about 2 pounds.  They are no longer in production (which is a crime), but there are oodles available on Ebay for about $20-30.
(I used to own and talk about my Alpha Smart 3000.  The Alpha Smart Neo 2 is the latest model before the company shut down, and the keyboard is nicer; it’s quieter and easier on the fingers).
I honestly can’t say enough about this device.  I rarely draft on a computer anymore; it’s just too easy to find yourself surfing the web, falling down a research vortex, or even reading your manuscript instead of writing.  Alpha Smarts can remember what you wrote until you delete it.  That’s it.  That’s all they do.  It’s beautiful.
I write about 800 words/hr on a computer.  I write about 1,500 words/hr on an Alpha Smart.  Distractions are so, so real.
When you’re ready to port your writing from your Alpha Smart to your word processor, all you have to do is connect a printer cable to your Alpha Smart, then plug the usb end into your computer.  Open your word processor, turn on your Alpha Smart, select the file you want to transfer, and hit send.  If you forget any of this, it’s written on the back of the Alpha Smart.
I know that no one should blame their success or failure on their tools, but...  I wouldn’t be able to write nearly as much without my Alpha Smart.  And if you ever do writing meet ups, you’ll be the only person who isn’t fighting for a power outlet!  It also fits easily into a tote bag or backpack.
Oh, Alpha Smart Neo 2.  My partner and friend!
Freewrite
The Freewrite by Astrohaus is... um.  Well, it’s a lot like the Alpha Smart Neo 2, except that it’s waaaay more expensive, much harder to use, and has terrible firmware.
There are cool things about it, for sure!  For one, it has this weird...  Pseudo typewriter feel.  It’s much larger and heavier than an Alpha Smart, and I’m not sure that I actually consider it portable...  But the thick, angled base practically functions as a lap desk.  It’s comfortable to use and has a nice mechanical keyboard.
Tumblr media
It has wifi capability, so you can send drafts directly to your dropbox/cloud/email, no cords or transfers needed.  The screen is an e-ink scree, like a Kindle Paperwhite, easy on the eyes and readable in the sun.  It’s also backlit, which is the one major win over the Alpha Smart.
I bought mine used off ebay for a fraction of the list price (this thing is NOT worth $600 on any planet, goodness gracious mercy dang!  I paid about $180), and, um...  I still don’t know if it was worth it, not when I can buy an Alpha Smart Neo 2 for $30 tops.  I mean, I like the e-ink and the backlit screen, but...  There’s a lag between typing and the words populating on the screen.  There are no arrows to fix a typo.  I had to send 10 emails back and forth to tech support to get it updated and working.  It was not broken, and I understood all the directions...  It’s just god awful firmware.  I also lost a draft because it wipes your device if you open their Sprinter program while using your Freewrite.
I still use it, though!  The tactile sensation is really nice, the keys make a satisfying clickety clackety, the E-ink screen is lovely, I adore the option to write in a not-that-well-lit room, and the wifi transfer is faster than my Alpha Smart’s wired method.  But I still can’t recommend it as long as Alpha Smart Neo 2s are available, not unless you’re some combination of the following: a writing nut who writes so gosh dang much that these toys are worth it, someone who is big on tactile sensation, someone who likes hipster stuff, or someone who would love an Alpha Smart but can’t read the electronic screen well.  If this is you, make sure you also have a strong grasp on how to talk to and understand tech support, because you will need them.
Just never ever EVER open Sprinter...
Notebooks
Leuchtturm1917, hard cover, A5, dotted
MAY I INTRODUCE YOU TO MY LOVE, THE LEUCHTTURM NOTEBOOK.
Tumblr media
WHERE DO I EVEN START.
The Leuchtturm is...  Just the best.  The hard cover takes abuse well, stickers hold onto it nicely, it has two ribbon bookmarks and an elastic closure, there’s a folder attached to the back inside cover...  The dot version is unobtrusive and encourages smaller writing, which helps the notebook last.  And it is available in a rainbow of colors!
The paper is lovely, the pages are numbered, and IT HAS AN INDEX.
Tumblr media
I’m a scientist, and working in a Leuchtturm is just like working in a fancy, expensive lab notebook.  The set up is done already, man.  You just gotta jot down what pages contain what.  IT’S SO ORGANIZED, with almost zero effort!  Mi amor.
Sure, I could make an index page and number all of my pages manually...  But I’ve met myself.  I won’t do it.  When you combine all of these lovely features, you have one unbeatable notebook.
Plus, they’re easy to obtain in the states!  I order them off Amazon or buy them at my local Barnes & Nobles.
Midori MD Notebook, A5, grid
The Midori has even nicer quality paper than the Leuchtturm, but the cover can’t take abuse, and it lacks the nice features.  I truly appreciate the paper quality, but the other features bring me back to my Leuchtturms every time.
It’s a Japanese item and is more difficult to import to the states.  You can get them off Amazon, though!
Pens
I use Uni-ball Signo 207 gel pens.  They write comfortably, and using them feels satisfying.  They should be available in most Walmart/Target type stores, at least in the states!
It should be noted that I’m just not a pen buff.  I tried fountain pens, and it was more trouble than it was worth for me.
Folios/Traveler’s Notebooks
Okay, so you found the perfect notebook!  Wanna make it SUPER DUPER FANCY PANTS?!  Well, you could try a traveler’s notebook.
I only learned what a traveler’s notebook is about a year ago, so if you’re also in the dark...  It’s a leather cover that holds notebooks inside with elastic.  I own these chic sparrows, one for my Midori notebook (or whatever notebook I’m using at the time), and one for my journal.
Tumblr media
My full name is etched into them, so please pardon my censorship XD
The chic sparrow traveler’s notebooks are so elegant and decadent and...  I won’t lie, I literally move one or both around the house with me, just so I can look at them.
The one on the left is a Mr. Darcy deluxe, size A5, in the Wickham color.  The one on the right is an Enchanted Woods deluxe, size A5, in the Elderwood color.
Tumblr media
They have lots of pockets on the inside, a pen loop, and elastics to hold multiple notebooks.  This one is strung with a Midori notebook.  I also have a smaller B6 one that I use as a wallet!  It holds a small notebook, so I can write down those ideas that always happen when I’m out and don’t have paper.  The pockets hold IDs, credit cards, and cash.
It’s just this... magical, opulent item.  While it’s likely the least practical thing on this list, it’s very special to me.
Lap Desks
I HAVE A HARRY POTTER RAVENCLAW STORAGE DESK FROM POTTERY BARN AND I FEEL LIKE A WITCH WHEN I USE IT.
Tumblr media
Oh dear, I took a terrible picture, it looks so lovely in person.
The top can slide in both directions, revealing enough storage for several A5 notebooks, pens, and more.  It’s a great way to cart your stuff into your favorite cozy nook for a writing session.  Plus, you’ll feel like a Hogwarts student!  It’s available in all four house designs, plus a Hogwarts crest version.
Pottery Barn puts these on sale occasionally.  I’d aim for 25% off before buying.
My Writing Bag
Tumblr media
I decked out a tote bag in writing pins to carry my Alpha Smart, thesaurus, a notebook, and pens.  You can use any bag, as long as it accommodates what you need!  Here are my fave sources for writing-related pins:
Literary Emporium, who makes my favorite pin, “Still I Rise,” a Maya Angelou quote.  They have the most gorgeous pins.
When life gives you lemons, read them, advice for the ages
And fandom:
Digivice pin
My beloved Sailor Moon pin, the loveliest pin I’ve ever seen (not shown because it lives on my Sailor Moon jacket!).  All of the inner senshi are available!
THAT’S ALL, THAT WAS SO MUCH.  Please let me know if you try any of these out!

Don't know if u ever answered it, but I must know more on the goblin kitty that is Ham
Tumblr media
No I have never answered anything about Ham, don’t think I have ever even gotten any asks about him in fact xD like I do have an ask from you in my drafts but that is just asking for Ham in a hat which I am all for, but actual facts I have not, tho the first ever post I made about him got som facts but they are like 2 years old and kinda outdated at some points, so here have some new ones!
Stretch found Ham as a kitten about 2-3 years before Stabby, aka Chara, fell into the underground, he found this tiny wrinkly little goblin of a cat in Snowdin forests pretty much freezing to death, so Stretch quickly scooped the poor thing up, shoved him into his hoodie and quickly found a shortcut to Freck’s, Undyne’s.
Where the two did all in their power to save the poor thing and they succeeded, and Stretch ended up taking the cat home and adopting him as his own.
He named the cat Haminator 3000 because he found it funny, but just calls him Ham as the cat looks like a big piece of wrinkly ham, so Ham it is.
Ham pretty much lives in Stretch’s hoodie, mostly at home though as Stretch don’t want to bring him out in the cold while he and the rest of monsterkind lived underground, but when above ground on the surface he starts bringing Ham with him more and more everywhere he goes. And Ham is all too happy to just lay all curled up underneath his hoodie, or in his hood or pocket, snoozing away af.
Ham is usually a very chill and cuddly cat who just is on Stretch all the time, just sleeping, but whenever Stretch is away or Ham’s sleeping meter has reached maximum, Ham will set off into a chaotic playing spree, climbing everything, playing with all the things he can reach and pushing shit off off things.
He is a pretty well behaved cat and loves to be social with ppl, but he immediately runs off to Stretch whenever he is around as Ham just really prefers his company above anyone else. He purrs really, really fucking loudly like he is this tiny purring machine, and he is just very talkactive overall Stretch often talks with him and Ham answers back.
Ham has a habit of sleeping on top of Stretch’s face when Stretch sleeps, or sleep in Stretch’s pelvis or ribcage which like doesn’t hurt or anything but it sometimes tickles, and when Ham is in one of his playing moods there might be some biting pfft
Ham has a habit of scaring people but suddenly pouncing them, or appearing at random places like someone going to the toilet and sitting down and then looks up to just find Ham ontop of the bathroom mirror somehow.
Ham is completely ok with dressing up, so he often wears tiny hoodies, shirts, bandanas etc. Stretch got a shitton of photos of Ham in various outfits.
Stretch obviously adores his cat, his own personal little heat flask gremlin, Berry likes Ham too but he do sometimes feel like the cat got it out for him somehow, like there has been way too many times when Ham has almost pushed something off of a table or something and Berry catches him, and while keeping eye contact Ham slowly pushes the thing off. Berry is more of a bird person actually, and they also technically got the very helpful dog pretty much living with them too, whose extreme need to help them out do have a habit of causing havoc, though neither Berry or Stretch can really say anything as both of them are ultimate pranksters and causes way too much havoc in their home alone so they don’t get to complain pfft, not that they do but still.
But yeah got sidetracked there but hopefully these will satisfy your need of this Ham boy UwU❤

Annotated edition for latest Week in Ethereum News
So last week I mentioned the annotated editions and then...didn’t do one.  Just got too busy.  So we’ll see how this one goes.
One thing to note: Edcon and EthParis both got cancelled.
Original Week in Ethereum News issue.
Eth1
Geth v1.9.11. DNS peer discovery, EIP2464 implementation, faster Geth console
Latest core devs call. Notes. Lots of next fork planning. EVM subroutines likely happening pending Solidity benchmarks, ProgPoW back on the agenda, lots of eip1962 precompile talk
Draft spec for block witnesses
Stateless Eth1 update
draft EIP to add BLS12-381 precompiles to the EVM
Implementing account abstraction via new PAYGAS opcode
Rich transaction compile draft EIP. allow transactions from EOAs to bytcode directly
Literally nobody:
A few people on core devs call: ProgPoW!
I don’t really get it.  The reason ProgPoW keeps being so controversial is that core devs don’t publicize it much, and then they suddenly announce that it’s going in a hard fork.  Add to that the fact that every time miners advocate for ProgPoW, they show themselves to be outside of the Ethereum community, and you can understand why it produces such strong reactions.
Add to this the fact that one ProgPoW proponent (though oddly he sometimes says he isn’t) has told me explicitly that he doesn’t think the community can evaluate ProgPoW so he doesn’t even try to convince the larger ecosystem.
I go back to what I wrote a few weeks ago:
at some point there is going to be (another) fight over ProgPoW.  It’s an odd beast where both sides are convinced that they have already won - meaning that anger and disgruntled ragequits are almost guaranteed.
It only gets worse when you just announce forks and don’t try to set a process and make sure people are heard.
I have more thoughts on governance, but that’s it for now.
Meanwhile, lots of very interesting work going on for stateless Eth1, which is currently necessary to turn off proof of work (though I don’t think it should be)
Tumblr media
Eth2
Latest what’s new in Eth2
Update on fuzzing the beacon chain clients. Finding bugs, expanding capabilities
A short history and a way forward for phase 2
Automated detection of dynamic state access
Casey Detrio’s simple protocol for cross-shard transfers
Quick demo on getting an eth2 EE up and running using Quilt’s SEE tool
Lots of phase2 stuff this week.   An overview is that we’re still not particularly close to phase2 as there are plenty of research and design decisions to be made even before all the nitty gritty of engineering tradeoffs.
The flipside that I don’t think many people understand is that once we get data availability on phase1, then we have all the scalability we need for years and years.  64 shards which can each process 3000 rollup transactions per second, means we get to 200,000 transactions per second.  and 3000 is probably low, as we can further reduce the gas cost of opcodes used by rollup, and add a few more shards too if we need to.   [Caveat: we still don’t have a rollup chain live, but....soon™.  Check out Daniel Goldman’s state of optimistic rollup below]
Furthermore, when we have phase1, we can turn off PoW which will cut issuance way down and stop wasting so much electricity.
tldr: phase2 is hard and not near, but phase0 is imminent and phase1 has a spec for review.
Required reading: Casey Detrio’s phase1 and done, which was the first writing of this.
Layer2
Daniel Goldman: the state of optimistic rollup
Celer working on optimistic rollup using its State Guardian Network as block producer
Replay protection in rollups by including networkID
Cheaper zkrollups by using generic snark circuits for state maintenance
Channelizing an Eth app using an API
Rollups are all the rage right now, as indicated above, but state channels are still happening.  They’re hard as we’ve found out over the years from attempts on Bitcoin and Ethereum - doing channels is easy but channel networks are hard.
Stuff for developers
dEth node: claims to be 60% faster than Ganache
Security considerations around flash loan patterns
Austin Griffith video on flash loans
Patterns for computing/accumulating interest
Samczsun and Mudit Gupta find Nexus Mutual bugs
Email notifications in dapps
Solidity unit testing using Remix tests, part 2
Loredana’s ChainLens contract searcher is available as a Remix plugin
A video intro to studio.ethereum.org IDE
Revert comments in Brownie
Embark v5.2 – proxy contract support and scripts execution
Math in Solidity series: Numbers and Overflow
Realtime websocket integrations via API, aimed at devs new to Eth
composable Airscript v0.7
Eth2 things you can hack on at hackathons
This week’s issue was pretty late.  One thing I often do is roughly group things by subtopic under a header.  This week that didn’t happen, things just got thrown into “stuff for devs” with no rhyme or reason to placement.
I’m very interested to see if people check out the eth2 list for ETHLondon.
That Sam Sun is a machine!
Ecosystem
Ethereum Foundation’s wishlist for ecosystem support
EthDenver finalists
Waku spec v0.4
Last week I mentioned annotated versions of Week in Ethereum News and then…got too busy to do one. It’ll happen this week.
Register a .kred DNS domain, get NFT that controls ENS and DNS records
Etherscan’s 2019 year in review charts
The DAObacle of EthDenver judging means the submissions got put together today, so they will be in next week’s issue, along with here.   I don’t think anyone was shocked that the DAO judging didn’t work, but if you never have a few failures, you aren’t taking enough risks.  Cheers to John Paller and all the EthDenver stewards for making the American Devcon a great event year after year.
Check out EF’s wishlist and see if EF wants to fund something you want to work on.
Enterprise
4 key things PegaSys Orchestrate fixes for enterprise blockchains
Using Eth mainnet, CargoX approved as bill of lading provider by shipping reinsurers
Utility Settlement Coin to work with Adhara on commercial bank money as alternative to central bank digital currencies
Enterprise on mainnet means that the line between enterprise and app layer is blurring.  I should probably move this section.
Governance, DAOs, and standards
Submit your startup to TheLAO for funding
MolochDAOs on Aragon (Dandelion orgs) are live on mainnet
ProgPoW returned as a debate topic this week, as core devs scheduled a separate hard fork for just ProgPoW. Meanwhile my Twitter feed is decidedly against ProgPoW, eg here
ERC2520: Multiple contenthash records for ENS
ERC2525: ENS login
It’s fairly well known that I was a skeptic of TheDAO in q2 2016, but I’m very interested to see how these reincarnations of TheDAO go.
bZx hacks
bZx hack using flashloans was the topic of the week after two attacks, here is bZx’s post-mortem of the first attack. Meanwhile here is Peckshield’s analysis: within one transaction, get a 10k eth flash loan from dydx, use as collateral on Compound to borrow wBTC, shorts on bZx which uses Kyber’s liquidity and inflates the price, sell the wBTC at that inflated price, repay the 10k flashloan for ~1300 ETH profit

This section took a surprisingly long time to put together, but it’s definitely what people in the community were talking about all week.
I’d say it’s bullish for NexusMutual to pay out, especially because the mutual members first denied the claim but then paid out the claim when the facts of the matter became clear.  It’s also bullish for Opyn - NexusMutual and Opyn aren’t competitors exactly, they have different tradeoffs for people looking to hedge or protect themselves from risks.

SEO Writing: How to Write for SEO (10 Easy Steps for Writers)
Tumblr media
Writing for SEO is an art. The job of an SEO writer is to write content for both search engines and users and to do that successfully, you need to know how to apply basic SEO content principles in practice.
In this guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know about SEO writing. I will explain what is SEO writing and the 10 steps to follow to ensure that each content you write is search engine friendly.
You don’t have to be an SEO specialist to write for SEO, but you need to have basic SEO copywriting skills.
Let’s dive in.
What is SEO Writing
SEO writing is the process of writing content that search engines can easily understand. This is done by intelligently adding search phrases or keywords in your content without doing keyword stuffing. SEO writing is also known as SEO copywriting or search engine optimization writing.
How to write for SEO
To become an SEO copywriter, you can follow the 10 steps below.
Step 1: Choose your keywords (both head and long tail keywords)
The first step before writing new content is to decide which keywords to target.
This process is known as keyword research and its very important for a simple reason. You need to write content around topics that people search for and keyword research will tell you that.
When you do your keyword research, the outcome will be a set of SEO keywords both head (or focus keywords) and long tail keywords that people type in search engines.
The easiest way to do this is to:
Go to Google and search for your chosen topic (general).
Visit the top 5 pages and analyze the type of content they provide.
Take each URL and using SEMRUSH or other tools (ahrefs, ubersuggest, etc) find out for which keywords those pages are ranking and the traffic they get.
Then depending on the results decide which main keywords you will target in your content.
Take those keywords again and using a tool, find out the associated long-tail keywords and LSI (or semantic keywords)
Example
Here is an example of how I followed the above steps when writing this post:
I did a general search on Google using “write for SEO”.
I analyzed the first results using SEMRUSH and found out that the keyword that has high volume for my chosen topic is “SEO writing”
Tumblr media
I then used the Keyword Magic tool (utilizing the advanced filters feature) of SEMRUSH to find other related long-tail keywords.
Tumblr media
If you take a closer look at the content, you’ll that these keywords are used in different places throughout the article.
By following this process every time you write new content, you help search engines understand your content better and if your content satisfies what users want, this will eventually translate to higher rankings, social media shares and more incoming links.
Step 2: Craft your page title
The next step is to start thinking about your page title. Choosing a good page title is critical for the success of your page or post, so allocate the necessary time to come up with a title that:
Includes your target keyword
It’s unique for your website
It’s interesting for users to click
It’s around 160 characters
It’s not the same as the existing titles on the first page of Google.
Don’t omit any of the steps, especially the last one. Before deciding on your title go to Google, type your target keyword and analyze the first 10 titles.
Your goal is to create a title that is unique otherwise you limit your chances of getting a top-10 position since Google rarely shows pages with the same title in the first 10 results.
As an example, look at the title of this post and notice how the main keyword and related are part of my post title.
Step 3: Create an SEO Friendly URL (add your main keyword)
The next step is very easy to implement. When creating the permalink of your post, make sure that is includes your target keywords and eliminate any unnecessary words.
Step 4: Write the content (long enough)
Now it’s time to get your hands dirty and write the content.
You already know what your competitors have published, you have your title, you know which keywords to include in your content, what else do you need?
What is the user intent?
You need to make sure that you understand the user intent. In other words, your content should match what users want to read for the particular keywords.
One of the ways to find out is to go back to the Google search results and look for patents.
For example, if you are writing an article about ‘SEO tools’, you will notice that almost all results are about lists with ‘Free Tools’.
This means that Google has found out that when users search for tools, although they don’t include the word ‘Free’, their intent is to browse lists of Free tools.
This also means that if you are targeting this keyword, you need to adjust your title and content accordingly, otherwise you minimize your chances of rankings for that term.
How long to make your articles?
Besides the user intent, you also need to make your content comprehensive enough so that users can get accurate and in-depth information about the topic.
Despite what you might have read, there is no magic number when it comes to word length.
It all depends on the topic and keywords. For some topics, you might need to write articles that are over 2000 words, for other topics you can provide a comprehensive answer in 800 words.
Content length alone is NOT a ranking factor. What matters is the quality of the content and how good it can satisfy the real intent of the user.
To avoid any confusion, a number of studies have showed that the ideal article length for SEO is around 1800 words and this is true for many cases.
Longer articles give you the opportunity to use more keywords (without keyword stuffing) and they tend to do better in social media.
But, this is a general guideline and not applicable for all cases. My recommendation is to find the average length of the first 10 results and try to provide a bit more content but better than what is already published.
There is no reason to write a 3000-word article if you can have the same result with a 1500-word article.
Step 5: Add your keywords in the first paragraph
Here is a nice tip that most SEO writers fail to follow. Once you are done with the first draft, you need to go back and revisit your post introduction.
Your goal is to make sure that your target keyword is included in your opening paragraph.
The reason is that Google always considers that content that is above the fold and high on a page is more important than content found down the page.
By adding your keywords in the first paragraph, you give a big clue to Google as to which keywords to associate this page with. It’s also good for the users since you can help them understand that they are on the right page.
Step 6: Create headings using long tail keywords
One of the characteristics of SEO friendly content is that it’s easy to read by both search engines and users, and headings help towards that direction.
Don’t be surprised but the majority of users won’t read your content, they will scan through it. By having meaningful headings, you help them find the part they want faster.
Search engines follow the same pattern, especially for long form content. They scan the page and they look for certain elements to understand how a page is structure and what topics or keywords the content is covering.
To make their job easier you can use predefined heading tags in your HTML like the H1 tag, h2 tag and h3.
Usually a page has only one H1 tag and this is used for the title and then the rest of the content has H2 for the main headings and H3 for the sub-headings.
To further improve the SEO friendliness of your copy, try to use some of your long tail keywords in the headings. Take a closer look at the headings of this article and notice how I have added long-tail keywords in my headings.
Step 7: Add LSI related keywords in your content
With the introduction of machine learning to Google search algorithms (known as RankBrain), Google is trying to truly understand what the searcher wants by using natural language processing.
This means that for a given keyword, Google will look for the deeper meaning of the query and not just for exact match keywords.
For you as an SEO copywriter it means that you need to add semantically related keywords in your content, to help them during this process.
Semantic keywords are keywords that have the same or similar meaning. You can find these keywords using tools like LSI Graph. Here is a screenshot of the LSI keywords for “SEO writing”.
Tumblr media
So, you need to go back to your copy and enrich it with LSI keywords in a natural way. You may have to re-phrase some of your sentences but it’s a step that can improve the relevancy of your content.
Step 8: Link to other pages on your website using relevant anchor text
One of the SEO principles most SEO content writers tend to forget is internal linking. An internal link is a link that points to a page on the same website.
Why is it important?
When you publish a new page, it has to match your site’s topics. This improves relevancy and rankings. One of the ways to ‘tell’ Google that your content is relevant with the rest of the site, is to use internal links.
Internal links although they are not as powerful as SEO backlinks, they are still used by Google as a way to understand what the linked page is about, especially if the right anchor text was used in the link.
They also help users learn more about a topic (look at this article again and notice how I have used internal links to give users a way to find out more information about a topic).
Last but not least, internal links are followed by search engine crawlers and this leads to better crawling and indexing of more site pages.
Step 9: Demonstrate your Expertise and Authority on the subject (E-A-T)
There is a lot of content published on the Internet and in order to protect the quality of their search results, Google algorithms can detect which pages demonstrate Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness on a given topic.
In the SEO world this is known as E-A-T and it is a critical factor of SEO content and an indicator of content Quality.
How can you improve your SEO copy for E-A-T?
Follow these simple guidelines:
Each and every page should have the author name and bio published (see how I’m using this on all my posts).
A page should have outgoing links to trusted sources
A page and website in general should have incoming links from other trusted and related websites.
As an SEO copywriter, you cannot control the last guideline (incoming links), since this has to do more with the content promotion part but you can control the first two.
So, revisit your content again and ensure that it links to other trusted websites and that the author bio is clearly shown on all pages.
Step 10: Add and Optimize images
Before you hit the publish button, make sure that your content includes optimized images.
Adding images within your content makes it more interesting and easier to read. While this is not directly related with SEO writing, it can help in a number of ways:
Users are more likely to share content with high quality images in their social media networks than content with no images.
You can use the image alt text to give more clues to search engines about your content
When you properly optimize your images, you have more chances in appearing in Google image search for your target (or related) keywords.
Key Learnings
Anyone can learn to write for SEO. It’s a skill that can be easily mastered through practice and by following some basic SEO principles.
If you are working as a freelancer, there are a lot of SEO writing jobs you can apply for. If you’re doing SEO for your own website, learning how to write content for SEO, will make your content to get found on Google.
The steps to follow are outlined above, what you should not forget is to always put the user first. Your primary concern is to provide content that users want to read and then optimize it for SEO.
This is the reason that I have separated the process into a number of steps that involves writing the content first naturally and then revising it for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes.
You also can use the same process as a checklist when optimizing content written by non-SEO writers.

Donald Ressler X OC Maggie Waters.
Chapter: Seven.
Chapter Index
Story on Wattpad
Maggie
I always considered myself a good judge of character, I had always been able to tell if someone was lying to me, using me. I don’t know how I didn’t see this things about Raymond.
They all felt real, like he was a client who really wanted to get to know me, one with who I could swap stories, have a coffee, be a friend.
It was all a lie, he did it all with a purpose. Now that I think about it he always had a curiosity for Don, who he was, where did he work at. He knew Don was my only weakness, besides my family there was no one I cared more than him. His whole life story, everything about him made me want to earn that place where he only let a few in.
I was still sitting at the interrogation room, defeated, disappointed.
The door opened again, and I expected Elizabeth, but it was Don.
I stood up quickly and he closed the door behind him
“Donald I swear I didn’t know”
“Maggie” he said motioning at me to sit down
“I would’ve never agree to work with him if I knew who he was”
“I know”
I interrupted again “I feel so bad, I feel like i-”
“Maggie” he walked a step to me and held me by the arms, I took a deep breath “let’s make this clear. I don’t resent you, I don’t feel betrayed, none of this is you fault”
I let out the breath and relaxed my shoulders. He gave his watch a quick look and looked at me again.
“You have 45 minutes to explain everything about your work with Reddington, and then you’re going to take the call”
I nodded, Don opened the door again and led me down the hall.
“By the way, I didn’t lie, we affectionately call this place the ‘Post Office’”
“Ah, I see” I said with a smile.
The place where he led me was an open one, there were several desks strewn around, people on computers, it had an upper level with some offices, and one that had a panoramic view.
There were TVs hanging to a wall above our head, and some clear panels with pictures in them, information written in sharpie.
“Aram will record the conversation you have with Reddington. We have him under surveillance with a chip implanted in his neck”
I gasped at the sight of Aram. I heard about him from Ressler’s short comments. I quickly sat down next to him and gave him a smile.
“It’s a pleasure Aram. Agent Ressler speaks highly of you”
His eyes light up and he looked at Don, who just have him a little smile.
“So, Maggie, let’s begin with the basement.”
“The basement, the only specification I was given was that it needed to be soundproof. I designed it for it to look the exact same of what it looks now”
“Do you have any pictures?” Agent Keen had joined us, and we were all converged on Aram’s desk.
“It’s on my drive”
“A flash drive?”
“Google Drive” Aram pressed some buttons and my drive account showed itself on the screen. I frowned “should I be worried that you can do that?”
“We have access to this types of platforms, we usually override the password algorithm.”
I motioned at one file and he opened it.
“It’s unnerving to know” I muttered. “See this is the architectural design. It’s got sound absorbing foam in between the wooden panels, the door also has this type of foam in the door, reinforced with a type of wood that makes it almost impossible for the sound to filter. The roof was the challenge, it has a double layer of this wooden plaque and the foam”
“And how effective is it?” Keen asked skeptical.
“A usual soundproof basement could cost you up to 3000 dollars, with the specifications Raymond gave me, it went up to 100 thousand. You can blow two C4 explosives attached to the ceiling and you wouldn’t even feel the impact tremble under your feet” I replied “this is serious shit guys.” I said moving my eyes on the members of the team. Keen looked worried and surprised at the same time.
“And what about the cabin?” Don asked.
“The cabin” I pointed at another file that Aram opened. “I don’t have much info on that just yet, Raymond was going to call me to specify a location, for now he just told me a four bedroom cabin, independent generator, security and surveillance equipment for a 10 mile radius.”
“A safe house” Don concluded.
“This isn’t uncommon, I already had some drafts and this was the most accurate. He asked for it to be reinforced to be bulletproof, so I have to check the windows too, which was about to do today before I came here.”
“We still have 20 minutes until the call” Don said giving his watch a quick look “we need a location”
“For what?”
“The basement”
“St. Louis 3457”
“And the safe house” Don continued
“That’s what he has to tell me today”
“OK, we’ll be listening, I want his current location now” he looked at Aram, who quickly began typing.
“And what happens now?” Keen asked “are we going to let her continue work with him?”
My eyes diverted to Don, whose own ones were on Director Cooper.
“Whether we like it or not, you’re now his associate, Miss Waters. If you agree to cooperate with us and provide any substantial information about this safe houses, we will look after your safety.”
“And what happens when he finds out I talked to you, that I’m playing double agent? Who’s going to protect me from getting a bullet in my skull? I think I should get out of this situation before it gets worst”
Don made a little grimace, he knew that I was right, but I also knew he wanted me to help, badly. I had gotten to a place where no one on this task force would, a little seat in Raymond’s little trust circle.
The phone began to ring, Aram had taken it and set it up to trace the call to match it with the already established location they had on Reddington. I took a deep breath and took my phone in my hands, sweeping to answer the call, I put the phone on speaker
“Raymond” I said in a calm, yet cheery voice.
“Maggie my dear, how is everything?” Raymond said on the phone
“The walls of the basement are quite literally coming down nicely. We’ll have to wait to continue this luck streak when the ceiling comes down, there could be some setbacks regarding the wiring but it’s not going to be a problem. If everything does run smoothly we could finish early, leave it a few hours more to not leave any smell of paint.”
“That’s just wonderful Maggie, I knew I had gotten the right person for this job”
I smiled a little, then grabbed a pen.
“Besides that, we need to discuss more oppressing matters. The safe house, I need a location”
“I’m afraid that will have to wait, I want to oversee this project myself and I won’t be in town for a while”
“Did you get the blueprint I sent Luli?” “I did”
“And what did you think about it?”
“We’ll talk about this later Maggie”
He wasn’t giving in, I look at my phone, as if I was looking directly at Raymond.
“Let me explain you how this works Raymond. I receive a project, I oversee it with design and security, and present the outcome. Once I’m done I get another project right away, and if I drop the cabin for later I will have to take another project with an undefined time lapse that could inevitably delay your project when you do decide to do it. The point is, of you want me to drop it, I will, but I don’t want to leave you hanging for so long, I can have everything specified, permits redacted….”
I continued to look at my phone.
“It will more than likely be somewhere in the outskirts of DC, there’s a lot of open ground where we can build”
“Somewhere in the skirts off DC doesn’t really do it for me”
“We can meet for show and tell”
I looked at Donald, who nodded at me.
“Sure”
“Excellent, unfortunately I still have something that needs my undivided attention, but I’ll talk to you next week”
“Ok, I’ll meet your for show and tell on the basement by the end of the week”
“Excellent Maggie, keep up the good work”
“Remind me to Dembe and Luli please” I said moving my finger to hang up as soon as Raymond said his goodbyes.
I looked at Don and let out a sigh. I hope I did well.
“Ressler, Keen, to my office please”. Cooper said. I looked down at the phone and took it, sending a message to Gina letting her know that I was still interested in knowing the developments of the basement. Don and agent Keen followed him, and it was just me and Aram
“You did good, Miss Waters” Aram said, I gave him a little smile and rolled my eyes.
“It’s Maggie, and I hope I did, I know it wasn’t good info but at least we know he’s not planning to trick me into buildings this thing in a remote place to have me killed there.”
“I think Mr. Reddington values your knowledge enough to notice you’re an asset to him”
“Do you think he knows about me opening that vault? His vault?”
Aram was about to answer me, but instead we were interrupted by Don, agent Keen and Cooper walking back to us.
“We have discussed your current situation Miss Waters. If you agree to inform us of the developments of every thing Reddington asks you to build such as location and purpose, we will see to your immediate safety. We have this tracking device to keep tabs on you” he showed me a pair of earrings “you just have to let anyone know that you feel like you might be in danger and we will have a team dispatched to cover you”
“And if I don’t agree?” I still took the earings and put them on
“The best thing would be to stop any and all work contracts with Red, all communications, and try to avoid him as best you can.”
“And what about my work with him?”
“I trust you’ll tell us the information you picture relevant when it is presented to you”
I nodded once again, looking up at Don. I was kind of really nervous about this. Not only had I found out that my employer was a crimnal, but that I suddenly was an instrument of his devilish acts, and the FBI was expecting of me that I continued down this road of pretending so they can catch him, while getting myself in danger and in risk of being shot then dumped in a field.
But I did it for Donald. He deserved some piece of mind.
Of course, I didn’t make the simple connection of 'the criminal Donald has been trying to catch and now I’m working with’ to that criminal being Raymond. But now that I was standing in front of him, and recalling that one time Don had said 'Red’ back at my house, it clicked.
It wasn’t that Donald was trying to catch him, they already had him, and my little work with them was to tell them any and all contingency plans Raymond may have for when this thing he had with the FBI was over.
Raymond knew, he knew I had spoken with Donald, that I was obligated to tell any detail of what we were doing. But he waited until I was back and the front door of my apartment building to talk to me.
“I know that you spoke to Donald Maggie. I know you know who I am, but by any means can anyone know I’m in this little deal, working with the force”
I swallowed hard.
“I know you opened my vault, that the FBI asked you to inform them of my doings, and I know you’re doing it because of Donald. But trust me Maggie when I’m telling you that I mean no harm to you, you’re a valuable worker for me. And the things I do, the things I ask you to do, I do them in the hopes I never have to recure to them, but I prefer to be safe than sorry. So I trust that you will be diligent with the information you give to the FBI, if things do go south they will go south for everyone”
By everyone I didn’t know if it meant for him and I, or for the guys Don worked with. But at the time all I could do was nod.
“I’ll dispose of the information you allow me too” I said quietly, Dembe, once a very friendly face for me looked very intimidated now.
“Good” Raymond said as he turned around “I’ll contact you when I need the cabin, in the meantime get everything settled Maggie, talk to Luli if you need a signature”
I nodded, even though he didn’t see me.
I entered my apartment and leaned on the door once I closed it.
OK, recap. Raymond knows everything, but he said he isn’t going to kill me, I’ll take that win. But now I have to be very careful with what exactly I tell Donald, that’s a loss. That means lying to Donald, which is the last thing I want to do.
I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

WEALTH IS AS OLD AS FORUMS, BUT WE'RE GOING TO MAKE THE IMPLEMENTATION EASIER TO PORT, BUT IT COULD BE
They'll pay attention next time. It started decades ago, only famous people and professional writers got to publish their ideas, it's not because liberals are smarter that this is the main reason is that software is best developed by teams of less than ten people. Different publications vary greatly in this respect may be stuff you don't—you may just conceal your talent. Both Blogger and Delicious did that. It's when you can bear the risk of failure. Spending Too Much It's hard to predict which startups will succeed implies that big companies will start to shift back. The essay is mostly an opportunity to solve the problem with the labels and studios is that the customer doesn't want what he thinks he wants. I realized, more from internal evidence than any outside source, that the cause is not some sort of padding to protect their children from by raising them in suburbia? And yet within a month it had happened again: an aggressive west coast VC who had met the founder of a startup. It's not enough just to raise up the poor.
Was Amazon supposed to say no. Not Leonardo. A timeslice selected at random would more likely find me tracking down a bug in code you just wrote. If coming up with ideas for startups? Sites of this type on the cover. But you can't have, if you had grown up there and remembered how nice it was. If someone sat down and wrote a web browser that didn't suck. The first thing I want is for the founders, to understand what a conceptual leap that was at the edge of what could be manufactured. When languages are designed for other people, it's a sign they've lost the real battle, for users. They won't be offended.
The problems are different in the early stages. In the past when I bought things from. I better work then. We paid $3000 for a server with a 90 MHz processor and 32 meg of memory. It's not considered insulting to say that YC's most successful companies have never been swarms of beggars in the streets of a big company is like a compiled program you've lost the source of the problem is that in a modern society, increasing variation in productivity increases with technology, then the post-money valuation of $2 million. And you know, Microsoft is remarkable among big companies in the first half of the eighteenth century as they are, because it's rare for a program will be perfect. Your program is supposed to do what they want, and b don't just like whatever they grew up in the small Welsh seacoast town of Pwllheli. There is more to be smart in distinctive ways. And a particularly overreaching one at that, with fussy tastes and a rigidly enforced house style. _ Arc: def foo n: lambda i: n i and my guess is that a lot of them, so that we can become smarter, just as someone used to dynamic typing finds it unbearably restrictive to program in college was all wrong.
It's that we won't let the people who had them to continue to the point where startups can least afford in a startup is to try to figure that out. Thanks fred to: Fred Wilson to: Paul Graham cc: Nathan Blecharczyk, Joe Gebbia, Jessica Livingston, Robert Morris, Geoff Ralston, and Harj Taggar for reading drafts of this. The third was one of those 10,000, then you've done the deal at a pre-money valuation of your last funding round. After about ten sentences I found myself talking recently to a group of your peers? If you say: I'm going to talk about it publicly till long afterward. But looking through windows at dusk in Paris you can see your email, why not work there? Now we think of now as cancer. And yet I think I can fix the biggest danger of not being prime?
I write great software, but not his name. And because the points are independent of one another, as in war, surprise is worth as much as possible. Partly because the unions were monopolies. When you're writing desktop software, because so many bugs occur at the boundaries between different people's code. The book should be thin as well. This kind of thing people said at first about starting a startup is more than you'd endure in an ordinary job. No one is sure what research is supposed to mean that a deal is going to be, but it is a good trend and I expect this to be a hot deal. The study of rhetoric, the art of arguing persuasively, was a brutally practical plane.
The world changes fast, and consulting just can't scale the way a startup feels is at least nominally preserved in our present-day spam acceptably well using nothing more than create a new, much more analytical style of thinking. He showed how, given a handful of startups have some kind of primitive, multi-celled sea creature, where you can spend as long thinking about each sentence than it takes to write a paper about it, because they only have themselves to be mad at. Most good hackers have bad business ideas? If you're working on a hard technical problem. Our hypothetical prim miss from the suburbs. Surely by now we all know the amounts being raised in series A rounds, the investors in that round will get. I doubt what we've discovered is an anomaly. The big dogs don't have to buy anyway because there are no versions. These alarms are almost always the same. While we're at it, with dramatic results. That will change if you get rejected by investors, but there will be a great thing.
So there is a lot less than the inconvenience of signing an NDA. I'd recommend having the debate after meeting them instead of before. Why does this happen with religion and not with Javascript or baking or other topics people talk about being acquired, we had this startup on the side of safety: when someone offers you a term sheet, and then only in a vague sense of malaise. 27meg. So if you choose stability—by buying bonds, or stocks bought for the dividends they pay. VCs: let founders cash out partially by selling some of their own programs need to be moderately smart to succeed as a startup hub, because economically that's what startups are really like will at least conceal the problem.
