Trying to romanticise being stuck in stormy Paris weather, at least a 15 minute walk away from my metro stop. No umbrella, but happy to have a hot drink and colourful book.

"This is for the air conditioner, you can have it on rear, or front, or both..."
"And what's this big red button for?"
"That's the self-destruct button, don't press it!!"
"Wait, for realsies?!"
"Ah! Gotchu! Nah, it's the hazard lights switch. Still don't press it unless you need to!"

that's a lot of followers for a single day here ... thanks!
i want to take a few hetalia doodle requests for now so i can fill up this canvas. if you'd like to have me draw a [canon] character in particular, feel free to send me an anonymous ask [for a surprise]. :)
i'm taking up to 7 characters [that i haven't already doodled in this style].
they'll look like this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(also i don't really know how asks work so far, but i'll figure it out somehow. i just want to doodle)
if this doesn't really work out, it's alright. i could pick the characters myself later but i wanted to hear suggestions ahah
once again thank you for the support :)

Holy fuck, I have just learned that starting from today, your Allocation Adulte Handicapé (French state's allowance for disabled adults who can't work) is no longer tied to your partner's income!
This means disabled adults can now live with their partner and even get married without losing part or all of their allowance, as it was before!
This will help so many of us. So many of us who had to live with their partner because they needed their help everyday and so couldn't get governmental financial help and had to scrap on with only one person's income. So many of us who had to stay with their abusive partner because they didn't have any income of their own. And so many of us who had to live alone because we couldn't afford to lose our allowance
That's the best news I've heard this year. Disability benefits being tied to your partner's income is still the norm in most countries. I hope it'll spread to the rest of the world quickly

After watching the Hetalia english dub, the disparity between the interpretations of the Western and Eastern fandoms suddenly make a lot more sense… a lot of the lines were changed so much to cater to localization to the point that the characters’ personalities became completely warped from the Japanese version. 😯

star-struck lovers / sambucky
One of the most baffling things Bucky Barnes ever had to witness was himself change into a version of someone capable of loving. It was terrifying. Dare he say, scarring; if it was a physical change, there would be scars all over him— he could not recognize himself, but there were bits and pieces that he remembers was from his previous self.
For example: he remembered how tender he loved, how ever-lasting his feelings exist and the ways he could showcase this. And when Bucky found Sam Wilson, he knew that this love would last longer than the lifespan of any star.
The way Bucky loved Sam, it was without hesitation. He bought flowers "just because" and pulled the man close just so he could hold him any time he wanted. Bucky would ask permission for any kiss, and Sam's affirmations would only taste sweeter with every answer. It was wonderful. They both feel ecstatic.
You might think that the way Sam loved Bucky was kind of scary, because he's seen him at his worst, at the edge of inhumanity, and at the end of all things happy; then Bucky got better, he learned to smile again, and the way he says Sam's name birthed universes on his tongue. It's not scary at all; in the moment, it made sense to fall into each other's orbits. They made sense, is the thing. Everything made much more sense in their lover's presence.
Sam is star-struck, loving like a romantic with an affinity for words and Bucky, who has all the time in the world to match his man's energy, has whole constellations in his eyes. What a pair they make.

"As boys and men went out on the boats — “my grandfather was nine when he started,” said the local historian Arlette Julien — girls and women were in the canneries, some from the age of eight, some up to 80. They’d be called in at any time of day or night, whenever the boats came in: in pre-fridge days, sardines needed treating fast.
Dressed in long heavy skirts and clogs, the women would work up to 18 hours non-stop, go home at midnight and then be called back in at 4am. The floors were filthy with mud and sardine guts, the women’s hands wrecked by brine, toilets often a distant rumour … all for 80 centimes an hour. That 80 centimes was just enough to buy a litre of milk, half the wage of a professional washerwoman. All ages earned the same amount.
The strike struck on November 21 and within days 2,100 people were out, 1,600 of them women. The Communist mayor Daniel Le Flanchec pulled the town council behind the strike. He called in Communist support from all over France.
Thus was assured a level of organisation not experienced by earlier French strikes. Funds were raised, soup kitchens sorted, Christmas presents for children arranged and marches assembled. The strike became a national issue.
Finally, though, and after six weeks, the cannery owners were forced to negotiate. They conceded overtime payments, a ban on work for girls under 12 — and a pay rise to one franc an hour. Men got 50 centimes more. “Equal pay wasn’t an issue. The movement was born of desperation,” the history teacher Françoise Pencalet said. “The women simply wanted a little more than what they had.”

April 13, 2023 - Hundreds of union railway workers stormed the Paris headquarters of LVMH, the enormously rich French multinational known for producing luxury brands like Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and Moët & Chandon.
The railway workers chanted "money, there is money in the coffers of the employers!". The owner of LVMH is the richest man in the world: Bernard Arnault, with a personal wealth of over 200 billion euros. Less than a tenth of this sum could easily finance the pensions of the entire French population. [video]
