Artist Profile: Francis Bruguiere
Multiple exposure, solarization - portrait and still life, c.a. 1925 Abstract study, c.a. 1927
Francis Bruguière was an American experimental artist whose contemporaries included Alfred Stieglitz. The style of his work helps me to envision what it would be like to be an American artist in the '20s/'30s and makes me want to be there doing that, as well. The colors, highlights, and shadows bring about the sensations of both illuminating reflection and bright lights as well as mistiness, fog, draftiness, and labor.
