Note
do you have any good resources for 2d animation programs? :0
YES I HAVE SOME!
(WINDOWS/MAC)
open toonz is a good AND FREE program to use, easy enough interface, I've only used it a couple times but I've had a few friends who loved using it!!
https://opentoonz.github.io/e/
(WINDOWS/MAC/LINUX)
krita is pretty much a good FREE natural-feeling program that uses frame by frame animation, some buttons were confusing to me, but through trial and error i understood more of it!
(WINDOWS/MAC/LINUX)
synfig is a FREE animation program that specializes in tween-based vector animations!! i've never tried it before, but it's something that may be interesting to experiment with if you're looking for something like that!
https://www.synfig.org/
(ANDROID/iOS)
flipaclip is probably one of the most popular, FREE animation apps for ipad/tablet users!! it's very easy to use, frame by frame animation, you can preview your animation VERY easily, etc. however, you'd have to pay to remove ads and the flipaclip watermark i believe!
https://flipaclip.com/
(PROGRAMS THAT COST $)
CLIP STUDIO PAINT
clip studio paint is a program i've bought in 2018 and have been using it religiously for art in general, but it also offers animation features! the way in which you animate in clip studio is a cel animation format that may seem intimidating at first (i was definitely intimidated) but after following an easy to follow youtube video, it was immediately easy to understand what to use and what buttons didn't need to be fiddled with!
in my opinion, i'm content enough with having the limit to 24 frames, but it's up to you!
PRO - up to 24 frames for gifs or short animations (i have this one)
EX - UNLIMITED FRAMES!
THERE'S A SUPER SALE THAT ENDS DECEMBER 13 AND YOU CAN GET PRO FOR $29.99(usually $49.99!) OR EX FOR $129(usually $219!)
https://www.clipstudio.net/en/purchase/
(there are even more listed here in this reddit post that i found after typing my own list! )
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
i only listed clip studio paint in the programs that cost money because honestly i haven't done much research on others except for ones that are very pricey 馃ゴ

The Roombabot Diaries
"Even without full scan function, I still had my dark vision filters and my own mapping data, so with the fixed point of the corridor hatch, I could retrace my steps to the ramp. It just looked awkward and stupid because for the first part I had to navigate like a floor-cleaning bot." - Martha Wells, System Collapse (Video and audio description below the cut)
VIDEO ID:
An animated video of Murderbot, in a full environmental suit (featuring a little 'Perihelion' logo on its chest and an opaque helmet).
Murderbot is wandering around a dark space, the sound of its footsteps on the stone floor are audible. It walks in a straight line to the right until it hits a pillar with an audible 'thunk' noise and stops. A grumpy smiley face appears next to it.
It recalibrates, making little chirping calibrating sounds, then turns and moves towards the viewer until it seems to hit the camera (again with a 'thunk' noise and a little frowny smiley face next to it) and recalibrates again.
It turns its back to the viewer and starts walking again, this time seemingly hitting the wall in the back. It recalibrates again, then turns to the right and starts walking again. After a few seconds it stops briefly, two exclamation marks appear next to it along with a beeping noise, then it quickly walks out of frame.

It鈥檚 really fucking hysterical at this point how much I don鈥檛 know about my own drawing software.
I mean I've been using Krita for what, five years now? And I'm still learning just how much I don't fucking know about this program and its capabilities. I only discovered it has stabilizers half a year ago. I had to look up a video that showed me what dockers to enable for animation and how to use them. Not to mention the dozens of blending modes which I鈥檓 still trying to figure out what exactly they do an how to use them. This program is a marvel of engineering but I鈥檓 using like, 5% of it at most. I feel like the Doctor being scolded by River Song about improper use of the TARDIS every time I learn that there's a feature in Krita that makes what I want to do five hundred times easier and more efficient.
There's this one guy on Youtube called David Revoy that has in-depth tutorials specifically about Krita, and I have never felt this indebted to one man鈥檚 thankless work before. It鈥檚 thanks to him that I learned that something called a coloring mask is even a thing, and it has improved my life DRAMATICALLY ever since I鈥檝e learned about it.
However I do need to watch his videos one at a time with breaks because my brain is being blown with the sheer amount of information in each one. It's just me going "wait you can do WHAT?!" every five seconds for the entirety of the 15-minute video every time.
Every time, every fucking time I鈥檓 stuck trying to painstaikingly draw something manually, and then learn about another feature Krita has that鈥檇 make the process a thousand times easier and better, it鈥檚 basically:

god, the new Walten Files episode has been so fucking inspiring to me as a 2D rigs animator
like. I've wanted to make rigs of my OCs for ages now, but I've always hesitated on Actually Doing It because working in the industry got me thinking that there's only one correct way to actually Do It. and then seeing TWF4 use 2D rigs the way it does, seeing how fucking successful it is at it despite being so far removed from what the industry would consider "the right way to do things/make things look" kinda made me realize. ah. right. we do it that way in commercial projects because we need to be marketable. not because it's the ONLY way to do this shit. you can actually get way cooler shit when you're not trying to make it to industry standard.
