I originally posted this on my old blog. Since posting that, I've found other foods, drinks and ingredients. As of now this list is updated with everything found in media released as of Oct 2023.
Like the original, this is still a very long post that contains all canonical desserts, dishes, drinks, ingredients, and sauces. Unlike the original, I could not list canonically suggested food and ingredients, nor every codex, item, letter, ect in the sources. Because it was too long. I did add them to the individual post.
Like in the individual posts, the list has the country of origins next to each item and any relevant information. Such as ingredients, use, notes, or trivia. For the canonically suggested foods and drinks I list what their real world uses are for your reference as to what they might be used for in Thedas.

Poison Stings - "Poison stings" is the colloquial name. Orange peels coated in chocolate, a crunchy yet chew texture that is both sweet and sour. A favored snack of Dorian Pavus when traveling from Tevinter to Ferelden. (Tevinter)

The Blessed Apple - A pie made by a small cloister of Chantry sisters tending to the orchard, they use the windfall apples and share the pies freely; as well as the apples. The ingredients are flour, salt, butter, water, apples (golden apples from Lady’s Orchard preferred but others are acceptable substitutions), brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Blancmange - A white pudding made of milk or heavy cream, its name is Orlesian for "white eating". Because of the mild, sweet taste it can have a variety of toppings such as toasted almonds, ribbons of fresh mangos, red grape compote, cherry saus, or Vivienne's preferred plating of white chocolate curls with whole jasmine flowers. Dragon’s Piss - The name is probably figurative, but no one knows for sure. BioWare gives the “recipe” for Dragon Piss as “1 oz light rum, 1 oz dark rum, filled with iced tea”. "Dragon's Breath" is offered as an alternative name for this drink as it is served while lit on fire in the glass and burns on the way down.
The Golden Nug - Made with a base of effervescent white Seleney wine, sweetened with a dash of West Hill brandy and a splash of pomegranate juice. Muddled with raspberries and garnished with a sprig of Royal Elfroot. The goal is to imitate the soft pink colour of a nug.
The Heart of Spring - A “restorative” drink from Verchiel made with violets. (Orlais)

Candied Citrus
Perfect for bribing children.
Ingredients
Two to three each of large oranges and lemons, thinly sliced, seeds removed
Two-and-a-half cups of sugar
One cup of water
Additional sugar
Directions
Bring the water and sugar to a boil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the fruit slices, gently stirring to separate and coat with sugar water. Bring back to a boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer for about forty-five minutes, stirring gently once in a while.
While the fruit is simmering, line a tray with parchment paper and spread a cup or two of sugar over, enough to create a layer.
Remove pan from heat and remove fruit slices from the syrup, allowing excess to drip back into the pan. Arrange the slices on a cooling rack and allow to drip and cool for half an hour or so. Flip and allow to rest a further half an hour.
Dredge fruit slices in sugar from the parchment paper, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Arrange on the rack once more and allow to dry overnight.

Dragon Age Iconic Patterns: The single spike

The single spike or horn has been a constant pattern throughout all games of Dragon Age in general and in DAI in particular. There are several things that may be linked to it, from Mythal and Andraste to Dragons. In this post we explore how many of these objects present such pattern and how this may be related in an integral way.

Andraste

The main figure we see with a single-spiked helm in DAI is Andraste, who is depicted in numerous pieces of art along the game and books. Although she doesn’t wear this single-spiked helm in all of them, it’s an iconic representation of her [to the point that some followers are depicted with similar tiaras/helms such as Meredith]
In DAO we only have one unequivocally representation of Andraste, which is the statue we see at the end of the Temple of Andraste where her ashes are supposed to rest. In this case, the helm has the shape of a “moon” or similar. This form will be changed since DA2, and it will turn out to be the iconic single spike. We can attribute this inconsistency to the many difficulties in resources and environmental telling that DAO had.
Most of the time, Andrastian art represents Andraste with this single spiked helm/tiara [more details in Andrastian Statues].
In the illustrations found in the Chant of Light we can suspect that such a single spike is related to the shape of one single sun ray.
Wyvern

These animal statues appear all over Ferelden and in some parts of Orlais and in the Frost Back Mountains. In the tag Ferelden Wyvern we can track their presence along DAI. That they appear in Ferelden is not surprising, but the fact that they are inside ancient Pre-Blight Tevinter ruins [check Western Approach: The Still Ruins, Main Chamber and Hall of Silence and Western Approach: The Still Ruins, Viridis Walk and Inner Sanctum] is very disconcerting, specially taking into account how central it is in The Still Ruins, which appears even in the loadscreen of the zone. One could suspect this may have been product of the Dragon fascination that Tevinter culture had/has. Still, it seems odd to honour a lesser creature such as a Wyvern when they usually worshipped the true Dragons.
This statue appears in the Fade as well, but it has a clear design choice: the game shows us a wyvern in front of a head of Andraste, pushing us to ask why such an irrelevant statue would be in front of something so important as it is Andraste. The answer is solved later in the book World of Thedas, where we find that there is a Ferelden Tale which related wyverns with Andraste:

Now, this Tale is quite curious. If we always keep in consideration that this piece of lore is highly unreliable since it’s a tale spread in a population via oral narration, and subjected to changes over ages without records, we can highlight several details:
Andraste goes to the Mountain to “reach the Maker”. In the Chant of Light, we know that she speaks with the Maker, who is described Mountain-like. This reinforces the idea that Maker=related to Mountains. I assume this is a cultural remnant of the alamarri/avvar origin of Andraste, who had a deeper relationship with Korth, the Father-Mountain.
Andraste sang, and with this song, a “wyvern” appeared. This may potentially bring some relationship with the Dragons and the original song I talked about in posts like The Silent Grove, Those Who Speak, and Until We Sleep. We can even suspect that maybe instead of a Wyvern, the original event that inspired this Tale may have related a true Dragon. After all, we know that this single spike in the wyverns may, potentially, have some relationship with the dragon shape of Mythal. We also know that Tyrdda had an elf lover who sent a dragon to help her people, so I wonder to what extent the Alamarri and Avvar had also some level of relationship with mountain dragons.
It’s still a big question to understand how this wyvern statue, so related to Ferelden culture, appeared in pre-blight Tevinter buildings, when Ferelden did not exist as it is now. This is what reinforces my question: are these wyverns potentially creatures related to the Great Dragons? So far, we have no answers.
Mythal

Mythal, in all her representations and shapes, also wears an iconic single spiked helm. Even in the Concept Art, where we can see wavy sided horns that did not make it into the game, we cannot mistake the single centred spike. In dragon shape or in her humanoid form, this spike is constantly present.
It is unclear how this design choice may potentially speak to the player to relate Mythal to Andraste. One can speculate that, maybe, a fragment of Mythal appeared to Andraste. Maybe the Maker that Andraste claims to hear was, in fact, Mythal’s fragment. It would have been very convenient for Myhtal to instruct Andraste to make her Exalted March on Tevinter if we keep in mind that Flemeth [another fragment of Mythal] has been altering History to push it into a direction she has been planning for ages. 
Flemeth’s Tiara

Flemeth���s tiara also has a structure that shows a single central spike in a very prominent way. The relationship is obvious: Flemeth is Mythal. Or at least, a surviving fragment of her.
Her dragon shape is different in DAO than in DA2. In DAO it’s the model of a general high dragon [as usual, DAO didn’t have the most variety of visual resources so we can’t read too much in it], while in DA2, Flemeth has a clear dragon shape with a single spike in its horns that can be related to that tiara.
The red lyrium idol

The Red Lyrium Idol also shows a prominent central spike in the head. It’s a constant symbol that allows us to do some speculations: in the post Attempt to rebuild Ancient Elvhenan History  I speculated that Mythal's assassination may have inspired this idol, and therefore, this single spike seen in the idol is what relates it to Mythal herself.
It’s curious that even when Meredith turned into a piece of Red Lyrium, she also displayed a single spike in her head. This may have been just a consequence of the helm she was wearing in that last battle, which was clearly a helm trying to emulate Andraste’s.
From a design point of view, I think it’s clear that the game is telling us that this idol is related to Mythal/Flemeth, even though we are still blind about the “how”.
Tevinter or Venatori outfits

We know that Tevinter has a long history of dragon cults, and until the moment the nation turned into the Andrastian Faith, the Old Gods Cult was its strongest religion. The fact that a dragon [Mythal] has a single spike horn, and Andraste also has this icon in her art, makes us hard to understand the origin of the symbol in Tevinter Design. It could have been due to the Dragons, but also, as a design choice once they were converted into the Andrastian Faith. Let's remember that Dorian tells us that Tevinter thinks that Andraste was a mage, so more reasons to have her icons among the Tevinter Warriors since they have mage-inspired armours.
I also explained that it's hard to differentiate the Venatori from non-Venatori Tevinter design simply because the Venatori are nationalist, so they will always use the most iconic symbols of their nation.
There is a strange link between this design and the one I called “The Free Marches Andrastian Warriors”, which display a strong Tevinter-like style, but remaining Andrastian. These statues may keep that single-spiked helm as a representation of Andraste, but also as a remmant of Tevinter design [more details in Andrastian Statues].

For completion’s sake, I add this detail: these typical Tevinter dragons display a single horn. At some point one wonders if these statues are related somehow to the design of the Wyverns or are a development of worshipping Mythal-dragon.
Tevinter golems

These Tevinter golems trigger the codex the Gate Guardians . They are metallic statues that, we are told, were powered at some point by bars of lyrium.
They also display a single spiked helm, that, due to the general looking of the golem, looks like a Tevinter representation of Andraste herself.
The golem in general has resemblance to some pieces of the armour of the Humanoid Mythal.
Let’s remember that Golems were developed by Dwarves during the First Blight, and due to their trade relationship with Tevinter, they sold some [Golem and Legend of the Juggernaut] that were displayed on the entrance of Miranthous, inactive. So it seems that, historically speaking, makes sense that these golems may have been developed into resembling Andraste since Tevinter embraced the Andrastian Faith after the beginnig of the First Blight [check all this in the integral post The Chantry and the Mythology of the Chant of Light]
Tevinter Colossus

Among the Tevinter sculptures, we find one of the most mysterious one: the colossus. They are found closer to the structures that belonged to Tevinter in pre-blight times.
In game there are three different Colossus, found in Western Approach: Coracavus;  Front Corridor and South Entrance, in the open of Hissing Wastes: scattered objects and ruins, which was being co-opted by Orlesians to make it into a sculture of an Orlais Emperor, and inside the Frozen Gates in Frostback Basin [DLC]: Frozen Gate.  
The book World of Thedas gives us more concept art about these structures, which seem to be related to “guiders” and, maybe, to astronomy too.
The fact that we can see one of these in a concept art, showing up a certain star over its hand, makes me suspect these statues belonged to the ancient Dreamer times, that the codex Astrariums claims that Tevinter was under before the Magisterium was the mandatory political system.
The heads of these colossus are not exactly single spiked heads, but one of them [The Coracavus' one] has one single spike that fuses with the bridge of its nose, while the other two, have "horns" backwards. Maybe we can suspect some dragon inspiration in them? I find their profile very similar to the Qunari ones’.
Andrastian Free Marches warriors

These were seen for the first time in DA2, and they decorated The Chantry of Kirkwall. They look similar to the Tevinter Warriors thanks to this spiked helm and pointy shapes, but this may be attributed to the fact that Free Marches have a strong Tevinter influence.
However, these statues have an unmistakable robe identified with the ones worn by the Chantry priests in DA2.
This single spike in their helms may be related to Andraste herself and her own helm/tiara, but also having some inspiration from Tevinter.
Conclusions
I think it’s fair to say that the “Single Spike” is an unequivocally symbol of Andraste that may have an inspiration or a relationship with dragons in general, or with Mythal in particular. By extension, and due to Mythal’s dragon nature, this Single Spike also appears in Tevinter culture, even in elements that are suspected to be pre-Blight, and therefore, impossible to be inspired in Andraste herself. So, as it happens with DA lore, and assuming what we did in the post Attempt to rebuild Ancient Elvhenan History, everything comes to primordial dragons that may have inspired this icon in Tevinter Culture and later, in the human tribes, from where the Andrastian Myth and her religion raised.

Highmire
A bustling trade city nestled deep in the mountains and intersecting the border passage between the Free Marches and Nevarra. The city sits sloped along the mountain side, flowing down into the fields of grain and livestock. Feel free to use this resource, or to take parts of it your inspiration in your DA RPG campaign!
You can find detailed map and district descriptions under the cut.
The Old Valley: A section of land on the far side of the Donnastall River. This was the original settlement of Highmire when it was nothing more than a trade-post between the two territories, but now it has much outgrown that side of the cliffs. This area holds many merchant warehouses and one of the town guard offices.
Carborough District: This district is home to the merchant nobles and other high-class citizens and artisans. The expensive merchant shops and collectors operate out of this district. There is a higher count of patrols in this area because of that.
The Citadel: The home of the Merchant’s Guild, the head elected officials that oversee the running and operation of Highmire, with the main focus of trade deals with the Cumberland merchants.
The Green: Is a highly prized outdoor park where many of the city’s elite flock to admire. Special care is taken into the landscaping and upkeep of the park, which holds a plethora of exotic plants and intricately carved sculptures.
Midderton: Is the working-class district, where you’ll find trade shops and workers-for-hire. Anything from ironwork to herbalism, you can find it here. 
The Wheat Fields: Is mostly open farmland and range. The main crop in Highmire is wheat, and so the fields flow with golden waves of wheat. 
Trebberton: An unkept and unguarded District that the rest of the city has tried to forget. The city’s poorest people live here, but it’s also home to shops of oddity and free-lancers that will do anything for coin.

The Dragon Age Vibes™️ I am getting from every game are just so... fundamentally different from each other, it's amazing. I don't know shit about music, BUTT!
DA:O ist just giving of this Dark Fantasy Vibe, like you and the people in your camp are the only people left in this world. I have these strong feelings of loneliness when playing this game and the fact that Ferelden itself is just this typical medival fantasy-europe with low population density is not helping. They have their lords sitting in their freezing castles and their uncharted territory in the south, populated by clans who don't follow the crown and just... live there, I guess.
Ferelden is just this fantasy-pseudo-Britain and they love wardogs and bland stew and have bad weather and it's cold and every foreigner and their mother disses Ferelden for it's love for dogs and it's plainness. Which makes me defend this country even more! Also they defeated the evil frenchmen with an old witch being a dragon!!!1!
The plot is just this typical "you are the chosen one to save the world!" And that's ok! It fits the theme!
Also the whole entchanted feeling I am getting from the old ruins of long lost civilisations combined with the music is STRONG in this game.
Anyway MUSIC is a very good point! The music in DA:O is just... amazing. Inon Zur gave it such a specific vibe (from epic and gloomy to the nice clarinette elven-theme) and I love it.
Dragon Age 2 on the other hand... Boy. First I thought it was just similar to DA:O (same composer) BUTT!!! I was wrong! After playing DA2 again I think it might have similar tunes and style, but the vibe is different.
DA2 is more... homey(??), the scale of the world is smaler. You're not anymore a hobo living in the ferelden countryside. You're a ferelden refugee living in the Thedas-Version of You Can't Have Shit In Detroit Gomorrah. Kirkwall is an actual big city, there are actual people there and the feeling of isolation isn't as strong as is was in DA:O. The apocalyptic danger is over, the world was already saved and you are NOT the chosen one.
I love, love, LOVE that you have an actual family. You have your mum, your sibling and a ton of friends from different backgrounds who live their own lives! You are not forced to chill in the same camp every night, they actually have own goals in live! The plot develops over 7 years which always gave me the feeling that these friendships I build actually solidified over a long time.
And the music... The thing with Kirkwall is: it's not Ferelden. It's not this medival-esque city. It in fact has a forging industry. It's almost like I took a step from the 1400s to the industrial revolution during the 1800s.
And the music OH GOD, THE KIRKWALL THEME! It's sooo unsettling because I can't really place it anywhere in my brain! It's nothing I ever heard before with these string instruments (sorry, I'm bad at recognizing instruments) and I think it's supposed to be all towering and mighty and gloomy, uwu I'm a big city of the Free Marches!
But no. All this Theme makes me feel is... Kirkwall. This music is just this sleezy, dirty, dangerous, criminal-ridden fugly city and nothing else. It makes me feel kinda hopeless, like you're never gonna make it in this horrible, gloomy place but that's ok. That's Kirkwall, I'm supposed to hate this place.
And the Qunari... Omg. The theme for the Qunari/Arishok has something so foreign, fresh and NEW! The wind and string instruments in their theme give them an foreign (almost oriental-ish(??)) vibe, like they're from a far away place (they are. DUH!). And also the Kirkwall-Theme itself is NO typical pseudo-medival-europe-theme. It's something completly different, something of it's own.
I don't care how much hate DA2 got, I love it! Just the vibes are... chefskiss.

Trever Morris also did a good job in DAI.
I LOVE THE LOST ELVE THEME AND THE THEDAS LOVE THEME! THE LOVE THEME IS BEST OF ALL LOVE-THEMES, FIGHT ME!

DA HISTORY NERDS HELP
so in my worldstate post da4 (yes we're that far ahead) orlais disintegrates and at least one part of it becomes the dales. now i havent decided if we get total orlais destruction It's All The Dales Now a la french revolution of the elven servants + dalish orrrrrr if a smaller part of it is still orlais and the elves get the rest. because a big part of it is a religious war between the circle-abolishing, templar banning chantry of ferelden (who's head is the monarch) and the orlesian chantry who's obviously trying to exalted march them for this. also rivain is involved (on ferelden's side) via marriage and i can see nevarra getting involved (anti orlesian sentiment) and the free marches (varric in kirkwall, trevelyan's family in ostwick, and a cousland in starkhaven)
and like. i will be honest im a history nerd but not a war history nerd i have no idea how that would play out. would orlais just become smaller and have a ruler instated by the winners? would it be absorbed into the various countries? would the entire thing become the dales?
maybe it gets fractured and absorbed into the various countries and anora gives the dales (which falls under her new juristiction) to the elves. but then youve got a whole bunch of orlesians suddenly under ferelden/nevarran/marcher/possibly rivaini rule. how would that work. orlesian nobility are so different they just wouldnt work under the ferelden freeholder system for example. WHO would be put in charge of Smaller Orlais if it did remain an independant country post-war???

I’m back on my Dragon Age bullshit and I’m trying to pinpoint what cultures the countries of Thedas are based on but I’m not sure. Here’s what I have so far.
Ferelden: England with Celtic influence
Free Marches: Scotland tho maybe it varies based on each city state?
Orlais: Mostly France but I like to imagine some regions being based on Sub-Saharan Africa,
Nevarra: Northern Africa, ie Morocco, Algeria, Egypt etc with some southern Spanish influence though I keep seeing people say it’s based on Prussia
Antiva: Italian city states
Rivain: Caribbean, with some Western African influences
Tevinter Imperium: Roman Empire, with a wide range of cultures from Greco-Roman to North Africa to Western Asia
Seheron: No idea maybe Southern Asia
Par Vollen: Again no idea, I’ve heard it’s based on the Ottoman Empire and I’ve heard it’s based on South America
Anderfels: German? Russian? Scandinavian?

Thanks for answering my ask about Vivienne, I really appreciate it! Can I also (anonymously) ask for your opinion on the Free Marches and what you speculate each city-state is like?
Thanks for asking! Tbh, this is one where I don't have a lot to offer you as it's not an area I've dug deep into. I tend to avoid getting heavily invested in one idea of a location we haven't seen yet in canon but might in the future (though at this point I think the games are probably done with the south).
I might at some point have some headcanons about Wycome, as I have an unfinished fic that is set there... but for the moment, it's all pretty up in the air to me.
If anyone else has thoughts they'd like to reblog and share, by all means do so!

The sea greeted Hissera with a blue horizon, parading warm waters which lazily hit a rocky shore. Maybe the whole Free Marches could feel grief in the air, allowing the clouds to cry faintly over a lonely dwarf who observed the waves; his mind, however, was lost to memories.
As Hissera approached, she searched her mind for the right thing to say. It didn't took her long to realize there was no such thing.
"How are you holding up?" she asked, standing just a few steps behind Vennik. He, in response, took a deep breath.
"I'm alive," Vennik noted as sincerely as he could. After a moment, he looked over his shoulder and noticed the Tal-Vashoth had a white flowed in her hand. "Is that for me?"
"For your father. I didn't... I didn't know where he'd be cremated."
"He won't," Vinnek tried to growl, not to Hissera, but to the idea of his father's death being treated in an Andrastian way. However, the attempt just made his scar hurt like it's burning; stubborness once again bringing him only pain.
Vinnek grabed his waterskin and took a sip before continuing. "My father is-- Was... A staunt believer in the Stone."
"I thought dwarves were not religious." Hissera steps closer.
"Not usually, we're not. Many dwarves are Andrastian, but Orzamaar is very different. They love their ancestors, talk about them all the time if my father is anything to go by." A faint smile showed in Vennik's face. "And when they die..."
Hissera paciently waited for Vennik to go on. She sat by his side, laying the flower over her lap. "When a dwarf dies in Orzamaar," Vennik continued, "their body is supposed to be buried deep into the Stone."
"The stone?" Hissera asks.
"The Stone is this... Loving being, like a deity. She's literally the earth under us, and I guess around us too if you're in Orzamaar... But the Stone is also the culmination of all of Dwarven history. It protects and communicates with the dwarves in the underground. When you're burried, embalmed deep in the rock, it's said you either strengthen or weaken the Stone depending on your value in life."
Hissera took a silent moment to digest what she'd just heard. "Sounds quite religious to me."
"Are you religious, Hissera?" Vinnek asked bluntly. He was not one for subtlelty.
"Not very much," she shakes her head. "Andrastianism is not a big thing in Rivain and my parents abandoned the Qun a long time ago." Hissera stops for a moment and smiles to herself, as if agraciated with a pleasant memory. "You know, I had a... A friend back in Rivain. She was amazing and she always talked about the Natural Order; that's a thing in Rivain. I would tell you about it, but... I never really got it. And despite that, I would stay up late, listening to her talk about the nature and spirits for hours on end. And even though it didn't feel like something I could ever fully understand, I felt how important it was for her. It's like appreciating a song even if you don't understand the lyrics. The shine in one's eyes need no explanation."
The Tal-Vashoth noticed a smirk in Vinnek's face. "Point is," she explained, "we don't need to understand someone to respect them, or even admire them for that matter." She rests a hand over Vinnek's shoulder. "What would your father want, Vinnek?"
He turned his gaze south, back to the old waters of the sea. "My father left Orzamaar with honor. Despite it all, he still believed in the Stone... Being buried in Orzamaar: that's what he would want."
Hissera smiled and handed him the pale flower. "Then I guess you'll know where to put this."

Heraldy of Thedas, Red Schism AU.

Kingdom of Ferelden: The ascension of Prince-Consort Evar Cousland and the confirmation of Queen Anora Mac Tir meant the end of the Theirin and the start of a new dinasty. To avoid inheritance issues with the Teyrnir of Highever, the royal family took the name of Mac Cousland for the new dinasty. The flag of Ferelden changed with them, including a combination of the laurel of the Couslands and the wyvern of the Mac Tir in their families -now united- colors. The Kingdom of Ferelden lived trought a new of aggressive foreign policies, declaring a chantry of Ferelden and annexing land from Orlais in a reversal of fortunes during the 9:39-9:41 Dragon period. Before the birth of the Fereldean Chantry, the kingdom declared token loyalty to Justinia V as Divine, but claimed neutrality in the mage-templar war.

The Free Republic of Orlais: In brown and white to rapresent the peasants of Orlais, who took their "mud" origins as a sign of pride and to show the people loyalty to the teachings of the white Chantry, the Free Republic of Orlais was born from the destruction of the Orlesian Empire and the teachings of The Iconoclaust, elevating the people and destroying the nobility but bringing with them a strong current of religious zealotry. As of today, Orlais remains the worst country for a mage to live in, even with the end of the Templar Order and the chantry sun in both gold and black -a reminder of humanity sin and the teachings of the Iconoclaust- proves it.

The Dales: With the fall of the Orlesian Empire, crushed by civil war, lack of leadership and the dissolution of much of it's armies -bogged down by enemies or recalled in the attempt to stop the spreading of the Iconclaust teachings- the elves of "Ambassador" Briala repeated the exodus of their ancestors, reclaiming the Dales for themselves. If not for the extraordinary circomstances of the conflicts that were ripping down the status quo of Thedas, such a move wouldn't have been possible, but it was. While the symbolism of the colors and the bow is obvious to who knows elven history, the addition of the stars over it represents the merging of dalish and city elves, for the dalish quickly discovered they had to live with their lost people in order to claim the land that the city elves had succeedee in taking back.

The Grand Duchy of Serault: The Marquis of Serault had already taken prisoner his rival and neighboor, the Marquis of Aloyns, before the fall of the Empire. When the teachings of the Iconoclaust -a native of Serault- started to spread the and nobles started to be viciously ripped apart by mods, The Glass Rose of Serault marched on as much territory as possible and closed the borders, declaring indipenndeance from Orlais and trying to avoid to share the father of many other nobles trought her wealth. The Grand Duchy of Serault is the smallest nation in Thedas, but also incredibly rich thanks to their glasswork. Originally bearing the emerald stag of her family, The Marquis turned Grand Duchess and ruler of Serault added a golden circle and purple colors to show her wealth and status, comparable to that of royalty.

UMA: The United Marcher Alliance was born at the end of the mage-templar war, when Divine Justinia V's Exalted March ended with the victory of the schism of the Red Chantry and all of the free marches either allied to or occupied by Kirkwall rebel forces. Viscountess Selby of Kirkwall decided to invest in the rebuilding of the overthrown and defeated enemy and the monetary sacrifice was repaid by political capital and the prospect for unification in a Federal Republic, giving strenght and unity to the divided marcher states without breaking their oath to have no crown above them. The UMA was born by the blood of a revolution who affected all Thedas and such truth is painted in the red of their flag. But more importantly is their magical identity, for while maged are now free in all the continent (bar Par Vollen) only the Free Marches new Arcane University, an institution created by Ignis Hawke, teaches every possible branch of magic, included blood magic and how to safely bind demons. Such identity is rapresented by the University presence on the nation flag.
