CTV directed journalists not to use the word “Palestine” and has cultivated a “culture of fear” that is suppressing critical coverage of Israel’s war on Gaza, according to internal emails obtained by The Breach and interviews with several employees. The journalists said senior producers and senior editors across the platforms of CTV’s parent company Bell Media have disparaged Palestinian guests, told employees that protests calling for a ceasefire should not be reported on, and blocked or delayed stories that included too much contextual information about Israel’s military occupation and regime of apartheid in Palestine. The journalists, who are not being identified for fear of retribution, described a widespread bias at the media conglomerate against Palestinians that’s resulted in one-sided, incomplete coverage of the violence in Gaza that does “a huge disservice” to Canadians.

Until January 28th ends, I will only be rebloging and posting Palestine related content. If this is the only way I can participate in the global strike for Palestine, I’m gonna do it.
Noble followers, raise your voices and don’t back down! And don’t stop once January 28th ends! Keep talking about Palestine and other countries going through genocide! Liberation for one means liberation for all! From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!

Yemen: When journalism is a case of life or death!
At around 3am on 9 June 2015, while bombs were pounding Sana’a City, my colleagues and I were working to document the Huthi takeover and the wave of their reprisals and violations against political activists, journalists, and members of civil society by the Huthis. There were nine of us, all devoted to one cause: we had a nation to save. As journalists it was part of our duty to expose Huthi crimes.
I also had a wedding to attend. Mine. It was a month away.
We were working in a hotel room because our previous two offices had been confiscated by the Huthis. We did not want our equipment to be damaged in another raid. A few days after moving to the hotel, I heard knocking on the door and then my name, and within seconds the armed militia stormed into our room. With no office to destroy, this time the Huthis came for us.
All nine of us were kicked and brutally beaten before we even entered the militia’s van. Little did we know, this was just the start of the unfathomable evil to come. I was beaten in and out of consciousness during interrogations and their so-called ‘punishments’, but I had no crime to confess. I was a journalist!
Since they seized power, the Huthi de facto authorities have waged an all-out war on media professionals.
In one of his speeches, Abdulmalik Al Huthi, leader of the Huthi movement, described journalists as “more dangerous to this country than traitors and mercenary security fighters”

Polish Justice extends for the sixth time the provisional detention of Basque journalist Pablo González
A few days after journalist Pablo González completed a year and a half in prison in Poland, the appeals court handling the case has decided to extend the reporter's preventive arrest to which he has been subjected since he was arrested on February 28, 2022, a few days after the invasion of Ukraine began.
Now, Pablo González's defense may appeal the decision, although no changes are expected.
Tumblr media
Pablo González was arrested by agents of the Agency for Internal Security (ABW) on February 28, 2022 in the town of Przemyśl, on the Polish border with Ukraine, when he was covering the humanitarian crisis after the Russian invasion of Ukraine for online newspaper Público and other media. Polish authorities then accused the journalist of spying for Russia.
Since then, despite the fact that no evidence against him has emerged, the Polish courts have been prolonging the reporter's preventive detention over and over again at each assessment hearing of the case. In fact, this is the sixth time.
Both Pablo González's defense and his family have been demanding since the beginning of the case that the journalist's rights be respected and that he has a fair trial as soon as possible. Oihana Goiriena, mother of his three children, recently denounced in a statement that one of the things that most concerned the reporter - apart from not being able to communicate with his children - was that a specific accusation against him was not yet put on the table.
Pablo González will continue in prison sine die while waiting for a date to be set for his trial.

Shame on the Polish Justice system, quite honestly. Human rights who?

We need to keep speaking up, keep reblogging and posting and spreading information especially now that they are trying to take down "controversial posts" off social media. That is our freedom of speech our freedom of press. If you're in the U.S and you're seeing this happen, keep speaking up and posting. We need to be louder. Keep helping each other stay educated and teach each other the history and present of Palestine. There are kids having to report that their family and friends are gone. We can't lose faith, we can't rest. The ppl of Gaza who can't speak up need us. The ppl who were murdered, need ppl to remember and stand up for them. We can't just be like "oh they're not gonna make it" or "it looks like a lost cause" like what??? They are still fighting!! They are still trying to report and let ppl know!!! I don't give a shit if you're not Palestinian, you get to sleep more peacefully than they can, you get to wake up and be able to spread information easier than them!!so do it!!!!
It is absolutely insane that ppl don't want to help in any way. The "it has nothing to do with me or it's not harming me or it's not affecting me" phrases are complete bullshit. The fact that it's not affecting you is why you should put in effort, it's like looking at a kid fighting cancer and being like "they should be out in the streets asking for donations instead of being in the hospital and getting treatment" it's insane. It's fucking insane. And it's insane that I even have to give that example just so ppl can get the fucking idea of things.
"Oh but they're not my kid etc"
Be fucking glad
Be fucking glad and stand up and support and be fucking thankful that it's not you. Because I know damn well the ppl that say "it doesn't affect me or it has nothing to do with me" are the same fucking ppl that would not be able to last a fucking day with their loved ones gone, with necessities gone, and with the most powerful countries in the world disregarding their pain, funding their pain, mocking their pain, and not even seeing them as human beings.
Be fucking glad and stand up and stand with those ppl.

The more democrats beg for someone to stop Tucker Carlson the more they make Fox News look good. It’s honestly rather pathetic.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's office lashed out against the CBC on Wednesday, calling the news outlet's recent reportage regarding the provincial government "defamatory."
Smith's office demanded a retraction and an apology for its reporting on allegations of judicial interference.
The CBC responded to the demands in a statement.
"We stand by the story, which transparently attributes the allegations to trusted sources and provides context to the allegations," said Chuck Thompson, CBC head of public affairs.
"As is our practice, we gave the premier and her office an opportunity to react and we included that response prominently in the story, including the sub-headline."
Despite denials from Smith's office and the Crown prosecutor's office, CBC Calgary reported a Smith staffer challenged prosecutors via email on cases related to the Coutts border blockade and protests.
Previously, Smith said she hadn't been in direct contact with prosecutors, walking back comments made to Rebel News saying she asked prosecutors to review and reconsider pursuing the cases. [...]

Florida Sen. Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) wants bloggers who write about Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and other members of the Florida executive cabinet or legislature to register with the state or face fines. Brodeur’s proposal, Senate Bill 1316: Information Dissemination, would require any blogger writing about government officials to register with the Florida Office of Legislative Services or the Commission on Ethics.
In the bill, Brodeur wrote that those who write “an article, a story, or a series of stories,” about “the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, a Cabinet officer, or any member of the Legislature,” and receives or will receive payment for doing so, must register with state offices within five days after the publication of an article that mentions an elected state official.
If another blog post is added to a blog, the blogger would then be required to submit monthly reports on the 10th of each month with the appropriate state office. They would not have to submit a report on months when no content is published.
For blog posts that “concern an elected member of the legislature” or “an officer of the executive branch,” monthly reports must disclose the amount of compensation received for the coverage, rounded to the nearest $10 value. If compensation is paid for a series of posts or for a specific amount of time, the blogger would be required to disclose the total amount to be received, upon publication of the first post in said series or timeframe. Additional compensation must be disclosed later on.
Failure to file these disclosures or register with state officials, if the bill passes, would lead to daily fines for the bloggers, with a maximum amount per report, not per writer, of $2,500. The per-day fine is $25 per report for each day it’s late.
The bill also requires that bloggers file notices of failure to file a timely report the same way that lobbyists file their disclosures and reports on assessed fines. Fines must be paid within 30 days of payment notice, unless an appeal is filed with the appropriate office. Fine payments must be deposited into the Legislative Lobbyist Registration Trust Fund if it concerns an elected member of the legislature.
For writing about members of the executive branch, fines would be made payable to the Executive Branch Lobby Registration Trust Fund or, if it concerns both groups, the fine may be paid to both related trust funds in equal amounts.
Explicitly, the blogger rule would not apply to newspapers or similar publications, under Brodeur’s proposed legislation.
In additional to the blogger regulations, the bill also removes provisions of state statutes to require judicial notices of sales to be published on publicly accessible websites, and specifies that a government agency can publish legally required advertisements and public notices on county sites if the cost is not paid by or recovered from an individual.
Should the bill pass, it would take effect immediately upon approval.

Who the fuck thinks it’s a good idea to kill journalists?!
Ever!
Aside from Turkey, maybe. And some other authoritarian places like Iran or Syria. Among others.
Fucking hell.
