Another student in Canada was suspended for voicing her opposition to genocide. Please send an email to support Arij Al Khafagi, disciplined for opposing Israeli violence.
ACT NOW
Arij Al Khafagi, a fourth year nursing student, was recently suspended from the Bachelor of Nursing Program at the U. of Manitoba, with a five-year reprimand on her academic transcript! Despite being an exemplary student, and president of the Nursing Students' Association, Arij was harshly disciplined for social media posts she had made which were critical of Israel's violence against Palestinians. With no concern for the trauma Arij felt as an Arab student, and without consulting neutral experts on racism, the U. of Manitoba caved to vague criticisms that Arij's posts opposing Israeli violence were antisemitic.

Go to the link below to send an email to the President and executives of the U. of Manitoba. Arij must be reinstated, and free speech at the U. of Manitoba must be protected.

Among recently passed state laws, 19 enhance penalties for or make it a felony to engage in protest on or near energy infrastructure— a clear reaction to the mass protests over the Dakota Access Pipeline at Standing Rock in 2016. After 2020’s Black Lives Matter protests, five states enacted laws — and nine others have pending legislation — that impose harsh penalties for individuals who block traffic or even sidewalks. Some states added laws granting immunity to drivers who strike protesters and extending liability for crimes committed during protests to any organizations that support them. This January, in response to growing opposition to the war in Gaza, Democrats in New York proposed a bill that would expand the definition of domestic terrorism to include blocking public roads or bridges.

Why We're Interviewing Vladimir Putin
Tucker Carlson
“Most Americans have no idea why Putin invaded Ukraine and what his goals are now…Americans have a right to know all they can about a war they are implicated in, and we have a right to tell them about it because we are Americans too,” Tucker explained

The Debate From the Agora to the Hashtag: The Evolution of Political Debate
In the golden era of antiquity, when philosophers in flowing robes strolled through the Agora, political debates were a feast for the mind. Imagine: Sharp-witted men like Socrates, armed with nothing but stunning logic and a sharp mind, laid the cornerstones of democracy. These debates had style, substance, and not a trace of trolling.
Jump to the Middle Ages: Political debate shifted to the halls of power, where the word 'intrigue' carried more weight than a dozen heavy armors. Here, in the shadows of castle walls, the word was often a plaything in the hands of nobles, whose idea of 'freedom of expression' was limited to the king freely expressing his opinion.
The Renaissance marked a return to the roots of critical thinking. In academies and at humanistic princely courts, surrounded by artworks reflecting the legacy of antiquity, scholars and thinkers ignited new debates about politics, art, and science. These conversations were marked by a revival of humanistic ideals and contributed to the emergence of modern political philosophy. In this era of awakening, the discussions were not only a matter of the mind but also an expression of Europe's growing cultural and intellectual self-confidence.
In the 19th century, as Europe was seized by the waves of industrial and political revolutions, coffeehouses and salons experienced their golden age. In these spaces, found in cities like Vienna, Paris, and beyond, intellectuals and artists sparked lively debates on the pressing issues of the time. The debates in these coffeehouses and the discussion circles in the salons, often led by cultivated hostesses, were characterized by wit, satire, and a profound influence on Europe's cultural and political landscape. In this atmosphere of openness and exchange, many thoughts and movements that shaped the modern world emerged.
In the Age of Enlightenment, debates became somewhat more civilized, though no less heated. Parliaments and public forums became the stages where ideas clashed in gladiator-style. Here, modern ideals of freedom of speech and representation were born - and sometimes the not-so-modern ideals of political theater.
Then came the 20th century, and with it, the media. Political debates were now conducted in the living room, broadcast live and accompanied by charming moderators. Charisma began to trump content, and debate mutated into a television sport, where points for style were as important as those for substance.
Today, in the age of the internet and social media, political debates have entered a new, digital arena. Twitter/X, Facebook, Reddit – these are the modern Agoras. Here, hashtags fight instead of heroes, memes instead of manifestos. The political debate has turned into a 24/7 online battle, where everyone with a smartphone is a gladiator of rhetoric. Ironically, in a world where everyone can share their opinion, the screams seem to get louder, while listening takes a back seat.
In a bizarre twist of fate, we have gone from the Agora to the avatar, from Platonic dialectic to digital dispute. Have we lost the art of civilized conversation? Perhaps. But one thing is certain: Never has the political conversation been more alive, louder, and, well, hair-raising.

The targeting of journalists on the ground – more than 100 journalists have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza (not to mention +110 UN staff members) — and the communication and internet blackouts, ALL compound and make it that much harder to keep the public informed about the facts on the ground during this unfolding genocide.
Seeing accounts like Shaun’s, filling the void intentionally created by the mainstream media in NOT documenting or discussing Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing is a frightening reality to confront.
Many of us who are using our accounts to document the war crimes found that when users tried to engage with our accounts they received the message, “this account has repeatedly posted false information that was reviewed by independent fact checkers and/or went against our Community Guideline.”
This prompt is inaccurate, misleading and particularly damaging to the pursuit of truth in a war mired with disinformation, particularly from the Israeli authorites.
Despite having never been notified by META about any posts that were flagged as “false information”, I lost access to my Instagram account on 5 separate occasions since Oct 7th.
Each time I was booted off the platform it was without ever being notified that certain posts had allegedly violated guidelines, let alone the opportunity to complete the due appeals process.
The third time I lost access, I finally saw a prompt that said I posted content flagged as “misinformation”on October 19.
But when I clicked on the prompt, it didn’t provide any additional information about which post, or what the violation was.
To apply a blanket prompt warning users of my account "repeatedly posting false information" is damaging, given that there are too many news organizations publishing interviews and information on their meta accounts featuring a slew of disinformation on a daily basis from Israeli officials of claims that have been discredited and debunked.
Meta has an obligation to be transparent about its enforcement, which must be proportionate, particularly given its own admitted track record with censoring Palestinian perspectives & content.”

KOSA UPDATE:
(I made this it's own seprate post since the original is so long)
I saw someone reblog the original post whomst is from another country and is unsure of how to help.
So if you're in another country, here's how you can help:
If you have ANY friends that live in America, tell them about this bill. You can show them my original post talking about it if you want to because it's now pinned to the top of my page.
I have seen not a SINGLE person outside of tiktok besides myself on ANY other social media platform talking about this bill even though this thing literally spells the end of social media and the internet itself as we know it. and that's SCARY. I've been doing everything I can to spread it, but I'm just one person and it's still not enough.
And unfortunately, looks like my statement in the orignal post about how it will also effect those that don't live in the US has been proven correct in more ways than one. I was notified an hour b4 I made this post that a mass internet censorship bill similar to KOSA just got passed in the UK. It hasn't gone into effect yet, so there's still time for public outcry to overturn it, but the fact that a KOSA copycat bill got passed in another country is scary.
So yes. If you live outside the states, tell EVERYONE. Use your own platforms across all your social to spread the owrd if you have any. and ensure any friends or mutuals you have that live in the US are notified. Share the links to the petitions and resources and action items in my original post. we CANNOT afford to let this fascist nightmare come true
And I should also add another tidbit i recently found out. The right wing organization known as The Hertiage Foundation that authored what is essentially a Mein Kampf 2.0 style manifesto of how republicans plan on destroying our democracy if a republican wins the presidency in 2024 called The 2025 Project (which you can read on their website) has stated that KOSA is directly aligned with their goal which makes this even worse. again. When I say we cannot afford this Fascist nightmare to come true, I'm not exaggerating

An open letter to the U.S. Senate
The Senate must not pass the TikTok “ban” bill!
2,544 so far! Help us get to 3,000 signers!
I strongly oppose the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, a bill that could ban TikTok in the US. First, it violates our free speech. Second, it targets one social media company over others that have the exact same issues. A better way to safeguard our data would be to create comprehensive consumer-privacy laws that would require apps like TikTok, as well as American companies like Facebook, to face more restrictions on how they handle user data. If the Senator supports this bill they will lose my vote. Thanks.

Smack about Free Speech.
Smack is a mini podcast in which I try to tackle topics with common sense and logical reasoning, without bad intentions or ulterior motives. If a take happens to align with any political, religious or other kind of ideology, that is purely coincidental. It will inevitably upset someone, but please hear me out and remain civil.

Beyond the pragmatic considerations, this bill — should it pass and should TikTok refuse to divest — would result in the largest removal of speech in US history, and by several orders of magnitude. Other notorious instances of government infringement affected far fewer people, from the two dozen writers sanctioned under the Alien and Sedition Acts to the several thousand readers who lost access to Communist newspapers because of postal service restrictions during the Second Red Scare. There is simply no precedent for the sheer quantity of speech involved.
