I'm a little behind in posting this, but in June I finished up a second mural at John MacLure Community School.
I decided to illustrate he salmon life cycle in almost a story book or colouring page theme. The mural is located in a large "nook" in the hallway at the main entrance featuring two spawning sockeye. Trailing behind behind the mural is additional flowing imagery of salmon eggs, fry, and alevin. It was a challenge taking a full photo of the space due to limitations of the hallway space and lighting. You can also see the Thunderbird mural I created last year out the window.

Finished with a couple of murals the other day for a drama school (apart from the squirrel one, that needs paint I don't have). Fairly pleased with how they turned out I guess. The two geometric designs took maybe 20+ hours or so but the moon only took about three. Getting all those lines nice and clean took absolutely forever. I was mainly inspired by this gorgeous work by @frettchanstudios. I thought their bright colours and bold lines seemed so perfect for that environment I couldn't help but try and imitate it.

"CONNECTIONS"
Chantelle Trainor-Matties and JoLean Williams-Laborde
In 2022 the New Orleans Mayor, the Canadian Consulate, and Arts New Orleans partnered to highlight the many historic and cultural connections between Canada and Louisiana. Canadian artist Chantelle Trainor-Matties designed this depiction of the Acadians' journey south. A heavy reliance on blue and green tones depicts the importance of water to both peoples and the mural incorporates wildlife important to each, including some from their shared folklore. In New Orleans the design was painted by JoLean Williams-Laborde at Ursulines Ave and N Peters St, behind the popular French Market.

Momo crossed the rainbow bridge on this day three years ago now... I've spent the last few hours trying to go through photos which is always so incredibly hard... Taking photos of wiggling noodles was always a huge challenge and its so disheartening to know that I only have what I have (which I know is a lot and I'm lucky I blogged their lives and took as many photos as I did, but it's never enough). Knowing I cannot set up another photo shoot to take pictures of my angel makes me so sad.
Mummy misses you Momo, so much. I wish we could all curl up on the couch together again. This isn't a perfectly clear photo of baby Momo, but I love it so much. Dook in peace baby girl, love you.

If I make an enamel pin of this, would you buy one? What variations of this design would you like to see? colors?
Someone already suggested that the ferret wear a tutu.
Maybe an albino ferret? A dark ferret?

Some 4" x 4" paintings. The two on the left were a part of The Big Tiny exhibition at the @karitonartgallery and the two on the right I brought with me to the @newwestcraft Indigenous Market. All are sold! But I still have a few of these tiny canvases lying around for future use!

Something to think about. Thank you @vancitycu for having me be a part of this. Repost @vancitycu • • • • • • As we get ready for the long weekend, we took a deeper dive into what Thanksgiving means to Indigenous peoples and how we can bring Reconciliation to the dinner table this year. Thanks to @Frettchanstudios for the beautiful artwork.

This was a fun and informative collaboration with the Invasive Species Council of British Columbia @iscbc. My design features a child removing invasive plants allowing native species to thrive. It will be used as a part of ISCBC's education program in the form of stickers and signs posted in areas of stewardship work.
You can read more about it here: https://bcinvasives.ca/news/knowledge-sharing-and-storytelling-through-stickers/

Another series of paintings from this year (sorta).
I poured the colourful latex paint on these 12" x 12" canvases back in 2019 for a university project. This year I decided to add some of my Indigenous art on them to create one of a kind pieces featuring Raven, Frog and Otter. All are sold.

Last week I finished up a very large mural for the Chilliwack Library. It's located right by the children's section and it was such a lovely environment to work in. I really enjoyed watching the families come in, everyone so eager to play and learn and it inspired me to make sure I spend more personal time in a library. The theme of the mural is parents and their babies, so I've incorporated three different animal species. Of course, I snuck otters in the water, eagles in the air, and wolves on the land surrounded by a beautiful mountainous landscape all calling to British Columbia. I've called the mural "Nature and Nurture". Thank you for having me Fraser Valley Regional Library and thank you to the Chilliwack Friends of the Library for sponsoring this project.
Thank you Jenna Hauck from the Chilliwack Progress who wrote a lovely article about the mural.

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day!
Repost @heu_in_bc (on insta)
National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to honour, celebrate and stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples. The demand for massive systemic change and real progress on Truth and Reconciliation must not be ignored. HEU proudly represents thousands of Indigenous health care workers across the province. I'll Have a Sazerac with That, Acrylic on Panel, 24" x 36", 2023
This piece was inspired by my experience in New Orleans in the spring of 2022. I had the most incredible opportunity to design a mural for a levee in the French Quarter, which was then executed by Louisiana artist JoLean Barkley. The mural project was put together by the Consulate General of Canada, the Office of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, and the Arts Council of New Orleans. I was flown out to the Big Easy last year by Canadian Consulate for the unveiling of the mural. I saw gators in the swamp! In fact, it was the same bayou that inspired the artwork for Princess and the Frog which is one of my favourite Disney films. The alligator’s reflection is of Indigenous design, a call to the mural itself, all surrounded in the flora of a Louisiana swamp and framed in an oyster shell. I will never forget my first experience eating oysters (I haven't had a good once since) with my mother, Noella De Maina – Consul, Foreign Policy and Public Affairs and Consul General of Canada, Dr. Rachel McCormick who also was the one who suggested I paint something inspired by my experience and told me to try a Sazerac with that.
