dunno if this is an unpopular opinion but i actually prefer dimension 20 a lot more to critical role. just for me, personally, it’s more my style of story telling where it’s being committed to, but the humor is more light and prominent. and generally i find brennen lee mulligan to be more engaging— not that matt mercer isn’t excellent at what he does. but i think this could all come down to if u prefer a comedy actor’s take to a voice actor’s take on the game.
this also might be a bold statement that hopefully doesnt get me crucified, but i think if the majority of dimension 20’s stuff wasnt behind a paywall theyd have the potential to be more popular than critical role. (though i understand why they have the paywall, their sets are elaborate and no doubt expensive)

Sinema is up for re-election in 2024 in Arizona.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Friday ripped into Sen. Kyrsten Sinema after the Arizona senator announced she changed her party affiliation from Democrat to Independent.
"Not once in this long soliloquy does Sinema offer a single concrete value or policy she believes in," Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter in response to a two-minute long video Sinema posted on Friday morning laying out her decision.
"She lays out no goals for Arizonans, no vision, no commitments," the New York Democrat continued. "It's 'no healthcare, just vibes' for Senate."
Ocasio-Cortez joins a number of Democrats who criticized Sinema on Friday over her bombshell decision to leave the party and register as an independent. The Arizona Democratic Party blasted the first-term senator, saying in a statement that her "party registration means nothing if she continues not to listen to her constituents."
Sinema's announcement comes after Democrats expanded their Senate majority in the midterm elections, allowing the party to move more quickly on legislation and nominations. Since President Joe Biden took office, Sinema has faced attacks from members of her party over her policy positions that have at times halted Democrats' agenda in the 50-50 Senate. Sinema's breaks from the party include refusing to eliminate the Senate filibuster to advance voting-rights legislation and rejecting corporate tax increases. She's experienced low approval ratings among Democrats in Arizona. 
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the White House responded to Sinema's decision on Friday by declaring the Senate's new 51-49 power balance remains unchanged.
"I believe she's a good and effective Senator and am looking forward to a productive session in the new Democratic majority Senate," Schumer said in a statement. "We will maintain our new majority on committees, exercise our subpoena power, and be able to clear nominees without discharge votes."
"We understand that her decision to register as an independent in Arizona does not change the new Democratic majority control of the Senate, and we have every reason to expect that we will continue to work successfully with her," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. But AOC has done nothing for NY or America so how is this hypocrite allowed to be like this?
If I had any reason to believe AOC could find Arizona on a map, I might be more inclined to care about her opinion

EDITOR:  Many wonderful people in our community have similar goals for good things in our area.  I have said before that I am not a social media person.  I like my news printed.  People have shared with me some negative and untrue things that are aired in public.   I’m always sorry to hear of those things and never understand why some insist on running people down.  My Daddy used to say  “If people are talking bad about me, they are letting someone else rest.”  My Dad taught me a lot in his short 54 years on earth.  I cherish his lessons  that live in my heart.  So, the next time you hear of others tearing each other down, just think of the time they are wasting and how that same energy could be used doing something good.   And if you are a social media writer, remember another lesson we should all live by:  “If you can’t say something good, don’t say anything.”   Maybe a face-to-face conversation makes clearer understanding than socializing to all.    LRM

Jottings from Jeannie:  Mrs. Hall's Birthday Tradition Good friend, Susan, shared this tidbit with me. On her birthday, Mrs. Hall, an elderly widow, always invited neighbor Susan, a busy graduate student, over for a cup of tea and fancy cupcake. "OH! Susan, it's so nice to share time just with you!" Mrs. Hall would declare.An exquisitely wrapped birthday gift and fresh flowers decorated the tea table. Susan's contribution to the yearly celebration was usually a cookbook. Don't feel sorry for Mrs. Hall.  She had friends and family who took her out to eat and brought her tokens of their affection.  However, THE BIRTHDAY GIFT and THE FRESH FLOWERS were gifts that Mrs. Hall presented to HERSELF.  Susan remembers one celebration in particular.   It was bitterly cold, but  yellow roses brought sunny joy to teatime. And her present to herself?   Mrs. Hall had it wrapped and waiting to be opened since last summer! It was a delicate child's tea set!   " I couldn't resist this! We would also write letters to the ladies, thanking them. . .I also cut stencils and ran the mimeograph machine in the office. We never knew there was such a thing as a computer. . .Most of the girls who came back to work during the summer stayed in the South Carolina Building. Sometimes after work we would go to the attic and bring old mattresses down and put them on one side of the living room floor to do our exercises. We had a lot of fun but the next morning we would have aching muscles. Fortunately, all of the soreness would be worked out as we did our jobs. . .THE SCHOOL HAD A GLEE CLUB and I wanted to join, but prospective members had to try out before a group of judges. The first time I tried out I was not accepted, but I didn't give up. I tried out two more times, and the third time I was accepted. . .I thoroughly enjoyed Glee Club. Letha: Analyse Thropic, Miss Royal Tea. You picked a great color palette for this look, as the colors of gold and purple go with royalty while not necessarily borrowing from a specific monarch in particular. I love the ruffs as well as the belt, and from the waist up, I like the outfit, but I don't love the bottom half as much, the length of the gold skirt makes it a bit too business fish for my taste. The hair is a bit of a wash as far as styling goes, but the crown on top does help to make it more regal. Love the nails on gloves, they're the best kind of tacky. I like parts of the makeup, the lips and eyes are great, and the pearl forehead/eyebrows are also good, but the rest of the pearls on the face doesn't read as glamorous for me. Your winning speech was inspiring and you talking about your growth and journey throughout Charm School and Cycle 9 really illustrates how far you have come, and I can only hope that someone watching it becomes motivated to follow their own drag and begin a journey like yours. You should be very proud of your work, Analyse, because I know I am.

Just a few things thought: Your hair is really confusing looking at it, im not totally sure what its doing but I don’t like it. I also wish that the lining went all the way down to the floor because it would have made it very much ROYAL and I think it’s a bit missing. The speech was beautiful and well spoken. It was funny when it needed to be, serious and heartfelt when needed, and I think it really went over well and gave you a strong platform. 
Gluttoni:  What a beautiful queen you make Analyse! This look is quite stunning and I think my favorite reason why is because of your color palette you chose. The golden champagne color along with that royal deep purple is honestly such smart choice girl! I’m obsessed with the design of your crown and the amazing negative space of it. It’s honestly a gorgeous look but it’s lacking in some areas for me. The hair is definitely you signature color and great length but it need some serious styling in my eyes because it just looked too fried with this polished look. Also you lose me a bit with the underskirt length because it’s just a tad awkward with the sheer panel.  Good job regardless. Your speech was very well spoken and honestly you gave very solid points that really moved me. You should be proud my favorite skin cavity.

Lila: UGH. This concept is so smart and I get your convention that you set out to achieve. Your hair is so good, literally love this hair on you and paired with this makeup, you LOOK SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL. The makeup is fucking stunning Avana - STUNNING.The colours are strong here, if your silhouette was more of a flair than a ball - shape, then I would’ve enjoyed this a lot more. But without that - I feel your concept is superb. I foresaw this being the route you took, your Mexican heritage should be a proud staple and the chance to express it like this, like I’m proud of you. You have such a great presence when you’re on camera, you have the ability to make me laugh, make me cry, and make me believe that you believe that you can win this. Your points in your speech came across really genuine, I feel such a strong connection to those who go through TDR in a way that you have - you seemed anxious at times, you undermined your work when nothing was really wrong with it, and now, you’ve overcame a sort of renaissance period where you are good enough and you are the one to watch - you’ve acknowledged some of your “mistakes” and you’ve managed to overcome them. Look where you stand. You are such a warm glow in a community that could be watching their Next Drag Superstar. One of the biggest points of TDR is growth - personal growth and growth in drag - and your potential is starting to shine brighter than you know it!
Letha: Avana Noir, or is it just Avana???? Either way, Queen. This look is really great and I love your thought process for it, making it regal but also about your heritage. The color scheme is great, but I do wish you had a strap to hold up the top and stop it from flopping, because otherwise it'd be perfect. The hair goes very well with the look, and the makeup is STUNNING, you really knocked that part out of the park. Your speech was entertaining and funny, as you always are, and you discussing your growth during your time here, as well as you finding your community here, is always so great to hear that someone has gotten that out of their cycle. Know that these friendships will last beyond this competition if you want them to, and that just because we may all live in separate places, we're all sisters and having a network of such fabulous and creative people is like nothing else on this Earth. I am so proud of you, Avana, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for you.
Toni: I love love love that you went in and made a whole fucking ball gown for this!!! Its rough around the edges but it’s totally amazing for a first try!! I think if you had slowed down and focused on making more ruffles and make sure the lace looked nice this would have been stellar!!! I also think that this could have helped with straps because right now it looks like its barely holding on to your chest. Your speech was so very very very you!!!! It was fun and light hearted but had the slight seriousness that I’ve come to appreciate from you ❤
Gluttoni:  Right in time for Cinco De Mayo, you give it to us with this beautiful Mexican queen look. I love that you pick something so close and meaningful to the person that you are. I love the mug and you really look like doll that you would get as a souvenir for visiting Mexico. Your speech was hilarious. I really got some good hardy laughs out of it and I’m so glad you are owning everything that you are and really bringing what you had along to the competition. Good luck henny.

Lila: I like your Marie Antoinette a lot - The colour scheme is almost very Cinderella as Marie Antoinette, and truly the makeup is just such a standout. Your costuming is coming across for me, very halloweeny store at the bodice line, however with the flare out it’s extremely draggy and it balances out the Yin and Yang pretty much. Your hair is so good and I just think the powder blue is just so fucking beautiful for this scheme like wow. Another success story comes from culminating, well, success, in TDR. Your speech made me choke up a bit and I’m really glad you explained yourself in your reasoning for your personal situation. It sucks to be in such a tight spot and obviously knowing your passion and determination to win this, it must’ve been such a dire situation to be in. For me, you really hit home about some of your points - remember to relax on camera too - we’re only behind the screen and that lense isn’t an eye for the CIA to stare at you through! Touching on your success restored a lot of your achievements in this cycle and I think you should really be proud of what you’ve managed to achieve and succeed in through your journey in this cycle - the amount of friends you’ve made, the new challenges you’ll face afterward, and the support system that you can always turn to. Really, you’ve done such a great job this cycle, Lexi. Don’t forget about it.
Letha: Lexi Lamour, are you you gonna finish that cake or can the children have some? This look screams ROYAL and is so opulent, I am amazed. Even if you didn't make it, you sold the garment and it's so fabulous. I don't love the petticoat underneath, as it creates an odd shape underneath the skirt, but that would be my only crit for the gown. The hair is also incredible, and the makeup is honestly so beautiful, you look so soft and delicate, even if it isn't totally the typical Marie Antoinette style. Your speech was so heartfelt, and your drag journey is much longer than many of ours, with so many ups and downs, but the fact that you are still here is a testament to your strength and resolve to push through and commit to your drag, and I am so proud to see it. I am happy to have helped you through this cycle with my tough love, and I cannot wait to see what's next. 
Toni:I love love love love love adore love this rococo inspired outfit and I think you did a good job of styling it, I just wanted two things form this. It needed a different  hoop skirt, one that went more side ways like rococo gowns do, and I wanted you to be drenched in pearls. I love your speech so much because you really talk from the heart and its something from you that I haven’t seen before and I really enjoyed it and fell in love with you during it. that this
Gluttoni: I love anything referencing French lifestyle and culture so this look is quite the slam dunk for me. I love the soft pastel blue for this look and the hair up to the gay gods. This makeup is probably the best you’ve ever looked in my eyes and the styling was fantastic as well. Nothing bad I can say about this look. You gave us the cake and we got to eat it too. I couldn’t help but tear up during your speech because I heard all the passion and drive in your voice and it was very reminiscent of when I had to do my speech. I was literally boohooing while watching. I just want to you to know whatever comes of this. THIS NOT THE END OF YOU. You have so much more work and passion for the whole world to see. You have the platform, now what are you going to do with it?

Lila: Because this is the finale and you are all battling for a crown, I’m going to be outright with this. I do not like this at all and I was expecting a lot more than this. If you are going to do a Marie Antoinette look, the hair needs to be sculpted up, there needs to be more accessories, and certainly, there needs to be more cohesion. Your makeup has the conventions of Marie, but more of a clown inspired rather than beauty inspired. I would’ve done a lot more white paint all the way down to your clavicle, and certainly tried to make the arms look a lot more white too. Your speech made me soooooo sad. As soon as I opened your speech, I didn’t expect you to give into your own negative thoughts so quickly. Even if you think of all those things - The argument that you didn’t expect to make it this far, the argument that you did this for yourself - you did this like every other person standing in those positions at the finale. You all have reasons for and reasons against winning this competition. Any person in this cast could’ve came to the finale, and you all have potential to win this thing. I say this in a critique so that people can see it - you beating yourself up isn’t going to change how you perceive yourself, nor how others see you too. If you can go through being low, being bottom 2, and still make it to the finale? You have as much right as anyone standing up there with you to plead your case. So Sugar, read this now: You are a great queen. You deserve to be here, and you should celebrate it. Good job in this competition, and good job in this finale.
Letha: Sugar, I have to admit that I'm not loving the look. Beyond the makeup, I don't get too much "royal" so much as "holo", which could work for say... a future queen? but it doesn't have that typical futuristic sleekness. The hair is pretty nondescript, and the makeup throws me a bit. It's very Marie Antoinette, but the contour meeting the cheek kind of muddies the shapes a bit for me. I like the lip/eye, though. All in all, it is a bit hodge-podge and not very cohesive for me. Moving on to your speech, there were some good parts, but you seemed to have felt very defeated. Your confidence didn't carry through the speech, but I want you to know that you and your drag are so valid, and that your growth here is so evident in these challenges. When we started together on Cycle 8, I had no idea we would end up here, but now that we have, I can only say how proud I am of you and how much I look forward to your future in drag. I love you, Sugar. 
Toni:I really loved your speech, I love how you talked about your personal growth and how you really showed us passion for who sugar was and your art, and proving yourself to others as well as yourself. The look is a bit of a let down im afraid. I think if you had done an updo for your hair it would have helped a lot. Maybe adding more stones or jewels, a crown, or even a septar, just something to show us your royalty because other than I’m not getting queen from any section of this. I think your makeup is interesting, I’m not sure if I like it or not. I think if you ahd softened the blue a bit it would have made it a lot better. very you!!!! 
Gluttoni: I feel like I got the vision of the parts of royalty you were trying to reference but I must admit I’m kind of lost with the whole picture of it all. The good parts like the beauuuuutiful holographic fabric seems dulled by the uneventful and plain juxtaposed top. I’m also obsessed withe shoes but it seems a tad too modern for the silhouette's sake.Something about the sullen clownish mug and flat hair really doesn’t spell out opulence and queen-like regalness in my eyes. Not to say any of this is at all bad because it not but I wish you would have though out more about the whole picture which is why this is hard because you can’t explain for yourself your thought process. Your speech was definitely the embodiment of your growth and testament of your hardships overcome by your triumphs. I know this isn’t the end of you journey and my hopes is the that really own your star quality.

ive gotten a CRAZY amount of comments between my two fics telling me im amazing at characterization.
and i wish i could answer to every single one of them “thank u! its the autism” bc it truly is. i have spent my entire life— and still spend a lot of it— over analyzing people and their behavior so i know what’s appropriate in any given situation. that entire thing was subconscious up until the last year or so when i realized im autistic, but becoming aware of it didnt make it stop, so much as make many other things make a LOT of sense.
i wouldnt say this is an inherently bad or good thing. it makes me very observant and an excellent writer, among other things, but it can also lead to burnout from masking. all this to say when ppl comment that they wish they could write like me, i sometimes get an imposter syndrome bc i didnt… work to earn this skill.
ok like i did, ive been writing since i was eleven and u gotta be REAL cringe at writing before ur halfway decent, but the parts i seem to get praise for most is knowing how people are people. which maybe IS a skill in itself, but still.
also none of this is to say i dont like those comments— i LOVE those comments, very encouraging— but its made me reflect on WHY im good at the things im good at. and i guess heres the positive thesis to this ramble: a lot of the reasons im good at the things im good at is autism. and i spent probably 98% of my life thinking being autistic could only be some horrible, life-ruining thing. needless to say, ive been elated to find out thats not the case.

Sticking With the Schuylers (15)
Honestly, as much as I hate snow bless New England and bless snow days. Because while I’m not excited to clean the 16 inches of snow from my car at 6 tomorrow morning, I was blessed with this snow day.
So because I ignored course work again, here’s another chapter because I can’t get my life together outside of this AU anymore and I’m still trash.
In this part, there’s another game night. Which means Alex will be there. Which means Eliza can’t avoid conversation as long as she’d hoped.

Alex isn’t there when the sisters show up at the downtown apartment.
Lafayette opens the door with an immediate teasing insult thrown Angelica’s way. He’s holding an eraser, which he’s taken to carrying around from the day she’d surpassed him on their scoreboard. Now he waves it in her face, handing her a drink before escorting her inside.
“Today’s the day, mon ami. Take a good look at that scoreboard before I destroy you.” Angelica scoffs and accepts her drink, rolling her eyes as they follow their French friend into the living room. Herc waves from his position on the couch, only getting up to take the tray of treats from Eliza’s arms and thank her.
               And then there’s John; he pokes his head out from the kitchen upon hearing their voices and coasts to Eliza’s side, giving her a hug with one arm wrapped around her shoulders. She squeezes him back-just light enough for him to feel-before stepping out of it. She smiles, cheeks upturned and lets her eyes wander.
               “He’s not back yet-got kept late in debate because he was trying his own version of filibustering. I mean, those aren’t the exact words he used but let’s be honest, it’s Alex.” This makes Eliza chuckle, wrapping her arms around herself. But her eyes are still wandering, looking anywhere else but at John. “Hey-are you alright?”
               “I’m fine. It’s game night, I’m here to win. Or, I’m here to watch Angelica win, she’s pretty hell-bent about it. There’s sugar cookies in the kitchen, you’d better grab one before Herc eats them all.”
               “Eliza,”
               “John.”
               “If you need anything-you know, even just a minute alone,”
               “John.” She focuses on him, widening her eyes and shaking her head. Her lips curve up into the slightest of smiles, and she places a hand on his shoulder. “It’s okay, really. What you saw…that was just a moment. Don’t worry about me, please. Just enjoy your night.”
               To the untrained eye, Elizabeth Schuyler’s gentle, carefree demeanor is almost believable. But as she crosses the kitchen to swat Herc’s hand away from the cookies teasingly, John bites his lip. If she were an actress, she would have won an Oscar by now. He can only watch as she takes a drink from Lafayette, grinning and mingling with his roommates and her sisters completely effortlessly.
               It was going to be a long night.
               Alex can hear the noise coming from his apartment through the closed door; boisterous laughing and loud voices shouting through the dense wood.  He smiles and takes a breath before entering, kicking his shoes at the door and announcing his entrance. His friends look up at him and wave before turning their attention back to the game, stopping only to make teasing comments about his missing the first match of the night. When he’s finally settled he finds his seat next to Eliza, kissing her cheek before wrapping an arm around her.
               Something isn’t right.
               She doesn’t turn to chat to him. Her eyes aren’t alight with the gentle and peace-making glow that is usual of her demeanor on these nights. Although she’s smiling her cheeks aren’t lifted; her blissful mood doesn’t feel infectious…it doesn’t feel right. The warmth that usually encompasses him from being beside her doesn’t hit him. Instead, it’s replaced with something slight and barely lifted. Something that doesn’t quite translate. It’s worrying, immediately and powerfully. And he can’t let it go.
               “Hey,” He reassures his presence by pulling her closer, kissing the top of his head. She tenses against him. Slightly, but just enough for him to notice. Alexander pulls away immediately, shifting on the couch so that he’s facing her. He drops his voice to a whisper. “What’s wrong?”
               “Don’t worry about it, not now.” A switch flips and she’s alight again, leaning herself back against his chest. But it’s hesitant, shaky. It’s not right. But she takes another sip of her drink and smiles at him through the mask of her shining eyes, an attempt at comfort as she puts the now empty plastic cup on the coffee table. Lafayette, gracious host as he is, flies to her cup to refill it. Eliza smiles. Alex sighs.
               He wonders if he can worry about her now.
               She’s sitting in the middle of the coffee table, legs crossed, nursing her umpteenth drink-he’d tried to keep track but had failed, stopping his own drink count at two when he sensed she wasn’t going to. And she doesn’t seem to care, letting out a raucous peal of laughter as she furiously attempts to steer her little kart on the TV. (She’s going backwards, and not even on the same track as everyone else.) It’s ridiculous, he thinks, that nobody else has said anything. Or that his roommates are only perpetuating the situation, Lafayette cheerfully refilling cups as if he hasn’t realized the pace at which Eliza has gotten herself numbingly drunk. He wonders if she’s doing it on purpose. He’s sure she is.
               He’s known her to be very composed; even out of the public eye, when it’s just them…she’s always had an air about her that’s poised and presentable, as if every moment was recorded. But it was her personality, infectiously and effortlessly kind and blissful. This-the slamming of her plastic cup on the table, the darkness that has consumed the undertone of her shining eyes-this isn’t normal. And the way she’s let herself get to this place…
               Every piece of this night has been a warning sign. But he hasn’t been sure what to do, until now. Watching his girlfriend stumble through the night, completely unaware of herself…it sets his anxiety ablaze as he carefully plans his next move. That is, until he can no longer take the agony of watching her, of feeling the sensation of his crawling skin and an intuition that there was more to her night than just the usual stress release of their games.
               He has his hand on her arm before he can go over his plan in his head, dipping his head closer to her so that he knows she can hear him.
               “Come take a walk with me, let’s get out of here for a minute.” Eliza smirks, accepting his offer by lacing her fingers through his, pulling herself from the coffee table and grabbing her jacket. He watches as she throws a mischievous smile back to their friends-none of whom seem to pay any mind to it. None, that is, except for John. He looks on with an expression Alexander can’t quite read; Concern? Apprehension? Nonetheless he leads Eliza out the door as she wraps an arm around his waist, drawing herself as physically close to him as she can. And when they’re outside, and the brisk night air hits them, she slips her hand into the back pocket of his jeans. She giggles. He draws in a breath. He pulls himself away.
               “Eliza,”
               “What?” She’s grinning wildly now, hands grabbing the lapel of his jacket as she attempts to pull him in again. “We’re alone now, aren’t we?”
               “Eliza, that’s not-you’re drunk. Not just tipsy. You’re completely wasted. Even if I thought we were ready, if I knew that’s what you wanted…I could never take advantage of you like that.”
               He watches as her face falls; as her hands drop from his chest and hang heavy by her side. And then she wraps herself in them, head bent to her chest, before her entire body convulses. He doesn’t move to her at first, just puts a hand on her shoulder; gentle, tentative. The movement of her body is more violent-involuntary.
               “Hey, it’s okay. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. You’re beautiful…you’re gentle, and kind…Eliza, in my life you’re the sun. You’re the thing that keeps me warm, and happy, and sane. And I’m so happy around you, all the time. It’s not that I don’t like you like that. Because I really fucking like you. But you’re upset, you’re crying…”
               “Thanks for telling me, I had no idea.”
               “You’re crying, and you’re drunk. I would never forgive myself if I even thought about taking advantage of that. Now tell me what’s wrong so I can help you. You’re killing me, I can’t just stand here and let you cry. I would never.”
               There’s a concentrated moment of hesitation; she can’t seem to bring herself to a point where she’s able to speak. She’s sucking in air with rapid and shallow breaths, holding herself with shaking hands until he’s holding her as well. And when she feels his arms around her, her own wrap immediately around his waist. And she’s squeezing him, through the convulsions of her body and the shaking of her breath. So he holds her tighter, burying his head in her hair and whispering the first words that come out of his mouth, a rapid succession of apologies and security and kindness that hits her in a sobering flurry.
               “I haven’t been completely honest with you about things…I mean, I haven’t been lying but I’ve also been avoiding you this week so I don’t have to tell you which is probably worse, because being honest Is really important to me, and-“
               “Whoa, okay, take a breath for me. Take a breath, count to nine, let it out, count to nine. Then we’re going to get you some water. And some fries, the ones from the truck on 22nd-fries that are loaded with cheese, and meat, and whatever else we can get. Or the s’mores ones, I know those are your favorite. And then, we’re going to go to bed. We can talk in the morning, when I’ll know for sure that you’re ready to tell me whatever it is that’s going on.”
               She nods through his speech, face buried in his jacket as her grip remains tight around his waist. And when he’s finally done she picks her head up, and his hands immediately find their way to her cheeks. He’s gentle, always gentle as he wipes her tears away with her thumbs before kissing her forehead. She smiles.
               “I’m sorry. God, I’m such a mess. We can go back now-to game night, I mean. I don’t want to ruin all the fun.”
               “Elizabeth Schuyler did you not just hear a word I said? We’re getting fries. Fries, and water. Come on, let’s go.”

Invention
Expressions are funny.  Obviously.  Demetri Martin has proved as much.  I wonder about the phrase “Reinvent the wheel”.  FIrstly, I formally object to the term “reinvent”.  I believe that this word is nonsensical.  You cannot invent something again.  Once it is invented, it has been invented.  Same with rediscover.  You just can’t do that twice.  These subtle inaccuracies are important to those of us that choose to focus on irrelevant things.  I guess decide if this applies to you.  Also, I question the convention of using the wheel in this phrase.  Why is the wheel considered mankind’s best invention?  Clearly it was important, but clearly not the most important.  
Just a quick though, how about snacks?  They are a universally beloved invention.  Do you realize what people did before snacks were invented?  They would sit around between meals waiting for the next meal.  Lots of them apparently would sit at their dining table, usually the unemployed or people dishonestly taking a sick day, as research suggests that this is the demographic most affected by the invention of snacks, anyway they would sit at the table, usually waring an adult bib with a slogan like “where’s the beef?” or “my other bib is my bare chest”, with a fork in one hand and a knife in the other, held vertically and resting on the table, watching the clock until it was time to eat again.  They did not want to miss it, for if they did, they would have to wait until the next one, because there was no such thing as snacks.
While some people took it upon themselves to take all the measures necessary to ensure they never missed a meal, others would get caught up in their work and forget to eat or pack only a small lunch for work or forget their lunch altogether.  They would sit at their desk, stomach rumbling, palms sweating, trying to steady their jittery body until it was time to eat again.  Inevitably a coworker would happen by, witness their current predicament, and slap them clear across the cheek.  “Get a hold of yourself, man!  You know we don’t have snacks!  Just focus on your work and get home safely before it’s time for dinner.  You’ll eat again soon.  I promise.”  People talk about withdrawal these days but few knew what it’s like to suffer withdrawal from basic nutrition.  People would think, “Man, I only ate a salad for lunch an hour ago and I’m hungry again.  But it won’t be time for dinner for hours.  I wish there as something I could do.”  Unfortunately, there was nothing anyone could do.  
Can you imagine when snacks were invented?  What a life-changing event for everyone alive at that particular time period (per various sources, around 400 B.C.).  People could eat when they wanted.  They could eat what they wanted.  No longer was life lived in the meticulously managed time periods in between meals.  This was a renaissance.  Then came vending machines, which to this day remain a revolutionary concept, as well as mixed nuts, blow pops, and soda cans.  We really gained our freedom when we invented snacks.  We could make drives longer than 4 hours without fear that we would go hungry.  We could filibuster.  We could sleep in.  We could watch long foreign films in their entirety.  
I really don’t know of any modern day invention that even comes close.  People bring up the smart phone, but really nothing you receive through text message or by pedometer is actually relevant.  Someone once said that if smart phones had been invented earlier, 95% of the plot lines in Seinfeld would not have occurred.  I think it’s true, and it’s a little sad too.  In a similar occurrence from my own life, I remember one time I went over Joe Macci’s house for his birthday party.  I didn’t like him that much, he was generally a grump and not fun to be around, but when you’re a kid and a classmate invites you over for a party, at the very least you’re looking at cake, activities, and a looty bag.  I remember I went to Joey Bartozzi’s birthday party once and there were no looty bags!  I think it was a sign that we were growing up.  But at the time it just seemed ludicrous.  I remember we had cake, played touch football outside, and ended the day watching a movie.  Then, one by one our parents showed up to pick us up.  The first kid to go didn’t receive any party favors, I know because we were all watching to see what they would be.  That’s when we got worried, but I thought, “Maybe that kid had to leave early and they hadn’t gotten the looty bags ready yet.”  But then other kids were picked up and also received nothing.  I was one of the last to leave, and because I was one of Joey’s closer friends I thought that maybe they were only giving the bags to his close friends.  I got up, said goodbye and thank you, wished Joey a happy birthday one last time, and ran to the car trying to hide my tears.  It was awful.  
Later that year, Kiran, my best friend, had a party at Milford Amusement.  We played arcade games, ate cake and fries.  Again, no looty bags!  Kiran and his mom did address this growing controversy, at the very least.  They said that we received extra tokens in place of looty bags.   Af course there was absolutely no way to verify this proclamation.  Kiran said something like, “It’s better than a goody bag, you get to play more games instead of going home with stupid toys you won’t even use.  Would you rather get a pencil in a little bag?”  Yes, I want the fucking pencil!  Geez, these people were crazy.  And so self-righteous.  
 Anyway, I went to Joe Macci’s party and I skipped a little league game to go, I remember that was a dilemma a bunch of us discussed earlier that week, but I decided to go to the party.  My mom dropped me off and I walked up the walkway to his house, dressed in my party shirt and holding a neatly wrapped gift.  I didn’t see anyone else getting dropped off, but whatever, maybe they were all running late.  I rang the doorbell and no one answered.  I thought this was weird, because Joe’s mom worked at our school and she always wore pantsuits and looked professional, so I assumed she would be running a tight ship at home and enforcing prompt doorbell door answer.  Joe finally opened the door himself, dressed in a matching maroon sweat suit.   This was my first clue that something was askew, as it seemed like a strange birthday outfit.  I wished him happy birthday and he looked at me odd.  We both stood there for a second, me, wondering why he wasn’t inviting me in to the party, and Joe, just staring at me for some reason.  He told me to hang on and went inside for a minute and I continued to stand there in my party outfit, starting to get worried.  Then he came back and said that his party was cancelled, I guess he had gone in to double check with his mom, as if he wasn’t sure now that I had shown up.  I asked him why he hadn’t told me earlier, and he said that he thought I told him on the phone that I couldn’t come.  I said no, I told him that I could come.  We stood there for another few seconds, then I turned around and went back to the car.  No, I didn’t give him the present anyway.  My mom asked if I wanted her to drop me off at the baseball game after all.  “I can’t go in my party shirt,” I told her.  We went straight home.

idk man there are a lot of things wrong with tik tok dont get me wrong but like… not significantly more than most social media. also… idk how to tell yall that its algorithm is (scarily so) the best ive seen anywhere, so if ur getting an abundance of shitty, annoying videos (as opposed to a few here or there), u might be due for some some reflection. and lets not forget the sinophobia that goes into a lot of the hate it gets, which was pushed by trump yet for some reason (racism) a bunch of so called leftists are fine playing into it.
and for those talking about how the constant flow of content rots ur brain more than other social media, let me remind u that tumblr literally did that first. it was, for awhile, the only social media u had with an endless stream of things to consume. only recently as less ppl used it did u lose the amount of “endless scrolling” that it used to have in 2012-2015
