Trek friends, the Delta Flyers has started their DS9 rewatch with Terry Farrell and Armin Shimerman, Robbie Duncan McNeill and Garrett Wong.
I'm SO excited to hear Terry and Armin's thoughts, because they are both two of my absolute favourite actors in the Trek worlds.
Hint- for those like me who are deaf/HOH, run this on google with auto captions. It's not perfect, but it's good enough. Or, if you have the money, become a patron. I'm too poor, but it looks worth it.

Listening to the Delta Flyers podcast, finally reached the iconic line: “It’s pon farr night at the Vulcan nightclub!” And of course Garrett Wang and Robbie Duncan McNeill, the hosts, absolutely LOST THEIR SHIT about this. What would it look like? this sounds uncomfy? who wrote this?
Friends. This episode was written by Carl Sagan’s son.
PS. In case you, like I, forgot the context: Chakotay is going on a surveillance date with an alien in a simulation of Starfleet Academy who is practicing acting like a human for a planned invasion of earth. This line is spoken by the alien. (ST:VOY S5E4 “In The Flesh”)

Robert Duncan McNeill at Destination Trek 2018
Robbie did an interview on Saturday on a little side stage that felt very low-key.There was a guy who interviewed him and at the end the audience got to ask a few questions. I took notes during the interview and finally put them into a form that can hopefully be understood :)
Here are some things that he said. I am paraphrasing since I suck at writing down actual quotes. Forgive me.
Tumblr media
As a joke he kept being referred to as the guy who played Nic Locarno on TNG, which caused lots of laughs in the audience.
Regarding the difference between Nic Locarno and Tom Paris he said that Nic seems nice but isn’t a good guy, which makes him the opposite of Tom, who is a bit difficult to get close to but a good guy at his core.
(There was a little bit about Masters of the Universe. He is going to be in a documentary about the movie)
He doesn’t think there should have been more conflict between the Fleeters and the Maquis because having no conflict between the two crews was much more in line with Gene Roddenberry’s idea.
He thinks Voyager was best show cause they had the best pilot. (duh. ;) )
He then mentioned that Paris was originally planned as a love interest for Janeway, and I couldn’t help but laugh and shake my head very vigorously, and since I was in the middle of the first row he looked right at me and went “Oh you think that’s funny?” and then laughed. That was probably one of the best moments of my life.
NOW. For the most interesting part!
He was asked about Tom’s love interests and just asked “What was the thing with Kes about?”
But then he talked about how chemistry on screen doesn’t mean people like each other behind the camera. As a director he sees that all the time that people who hate each other are so very focused on each other on camera that it seems like they have great chemistry.
He obviously didn’t mention any names but it did come up right after he was asked about Tom’s relationships on the show.
His favorite episode was Partuition because it was the basis of the friendship between Tom and Neelix and he and Ethan are really good friends.
He would have liked to have more scenes with the Doc to give him more advice, but he hated that they made Tom a nurse.
He talked a lot about directing and how much he likes doing it. Apparently he convinced Berman right away to direct and then was on set all the time shadowing the directors and went to meetings and all that. Once he got to direct everyone else started doing the same thing so they’d get to direct.
He loves graphic novels and indie comics and is currently producing “The Gifted”.
He can’t see the Voyager crew as the characters, just as the actors.
He knew Voyager would have a huge impact but assumed the attention would eventually fade.
He is very proud of the show even though at the time there was a lot of resistance because of the female captain. Now he thinks it wouldn’t be an issue anymore. Kate was not just a great captain but also a great leader of the cast.
He never really had any say in the stories but apparently Picardo was great at throwing out ideas.
He would love to direct an episode of Discovery but the schedules didn’t line up. He would still like to do it.
He had just finished directing an episode of “The Orville”.
And now for the BEST part of what he said: He has the idea to produce a “Captain Proton” mini-series. He wants to re-unite the cast for it. At that there was A LOT of applause.
After the interview I had a picture taken with him. He was so incredibly nice and his shirt was really, really soft. ;)

I’m so happy with how it turned out!!! :)
Later that afternoon he also had a panel with Ethan Phillips that I still have to type up. ;)
