“I once read an amazing fic where Odin finds Loki in the bifrost instead of Thor and he's beyond distressed that things got this point.”
Do u remember the title or any tags i would love to read this😆😆
I FOUND IT! I SPENT STUPIDLY LONG LOOKING FOR THIS EARLIER BUT I FOUND IT
summary:
On one hand, Loki will do anything to make his father love him. On the other hand, Odin loves Loki, but doesn't know how to show it in a way that Loki will understand. This is the story in which no quite gets the point.
it's not finished and hasn't been updated in years, but what's there is amazing, and who knows! positive support may coax another chapter out of the author if you're lucky. ;)
I ADORE Frigga and Odin in this fic though.

Queen of my court/King of my heart - Part 2
Paint me in your color - Loki x Reader
Summary: In the midst of the Festival of Colour, hidden feelings of love come out. Or do they? These best friends seem to never catch each other. When wearing the colour of another means you vow your heart to them, will Y/N wear emerald?
Your head was pounding and you had to quickly sit up because you felt like throwing up the moment you opened your eyes. Placing a hand on your forehead you slowly took in your surroundings only to realize that you were safely sleeping in your chambers, dressed in your favourite pair of pyjamas and with your dress from last night neatly folded and placed on the armchair next to your bed. Panic started surging through you because you did not remember how you got here and quick, small flashes of last night were making you mortified by the second.
You remembered sitting in Loki’s lap outside and him carrying you in his arms. You crossed some boundaries with your best friend that you never did before and you couldn’t help but wonder how did he feel about all of that foreign physical contact. You two were used to touching one another but you never had been bold enough to place yourself on his lap. No matter how inviting his thighs have always looked. You shook your head to quickly snap out of those thoughts. They were improper, especially directed at a friend. A very handsome friend you were attracted to and in love with, but still a friend. You started to grow weary of that word. But you would take all that Loki could give you, no matter how much you wanted to just kiss his lips and confess your pathetic, unrequited feelings.
And then there were Thor and his companions with whom you remember drinking a whole lot. You hoped you did not make a fool out of yourself too much in front of them. You liked the group. Turning towards the windows, you spotted a tall glass of water and a note on your nightstand. Downing the glass, you picked up the yellowish piece of paper and recognized Loki’s regal handwriting in a second.
“My dear Y/N,
Don’t panic or worry about anything that you did last night, as I know that pretty head of yours will probably jump to the worst conclusions. You just let your mischievous side take control for once but I safely returned you to your chambers at the end of the festivity.
If you feel like discussing anything that was said last night, come to me. I meant every word on my part. Though if your thoughts were merely a result of your intoxicated mind, never mention them again and I will pretend it never happened.
P.S. I changed your clothes using magic, show me some faith, love, come on.
Loki
You rolled your eyes at the last line but that note did not soothe any of your worries, it only made them intensify. You couldn’t remember what you may have said to Loki and you surely did not remember what he said to you. But a feeling deep down in your stomach made your knees go weak. You were completely aware of your feelings for the God but you thought your drunk self was also smart enough not to say anything. Wasn’t she?
Endless possibilities were swirling through your throbbing head and you wished you could vanish and never see anyone ever again. You often tended to overshare under the influence of alcohol so you prayed and hoped beyond hope that you did not just ruin the purest, gentlest friendship you could ever wish for with uncalled-for feelings. No matter the fact that you wanted it to be something more. And if you did, what did Loki say back that he had to point out in his note as well? You were not sure you actually wanted to know. You were aware he did not feel the same but you were not ready to hear him say those specific words to you. So you decided to keep your distance from him for today, hoping that your memories will eventually come back to you in time as they usually do after a night of drunk stupidity.
After a long bath, you thought it would be wise to leave your chambers in case the youngest prince would consider looking for you. It was not fair to shut him out like this but your heart was not sure it could take much more of the whole situation. Walking down the long halls, your instinct was to head towards the prince’s room but your mind halted your steps and you kept your promise to yourself by walking to the gardens. As beautiful in the daylight as they were under the stars, you strolled around caught up in your tangled thoughts. This whole situation that you put yourself in is going to backfire sooner or later unless you keep your restless heart under control. Loki means the entire Universe to you and the simple thought of not having him in your life made you sick. You knew his opinion on love and you knew how cynical he was about the concept of it. Forcing your untamed feelings down his throat is only ever going to push him away. Lost and focused on the mess you might have created last night made you fail to notice the Queen.
Frigga was also taking a stroll through her gardens, accompanied by some maids when she noticed you. A fond smile formed on her face as she approached and greeted you with warmth. Snapping out of your trance, you bowed in front of her and also wished her companions a good morning. The two women seemed taken aback by this but they smiled at you in return. It might have been your lack of knowledge about royal protocol but the Queen knew it was mostly your kind nature that made you interact with her maids as well. She felt particularly merry about her son’s taste in friends. Or partners to be more specific but it’s not like any of you two knew by this time. Frigga just hoped that one of you would open their eyes soon to see what is standing right in front of them.
‘What brings you around this early in the morning, dear?’ Frigga asked you as her maids left you alone at her request. Her Majesty wanted to get to know the woman that brought Loki back to her better. For the longest time, Frigga was troubled and filled with worry about Loki’s fate. He was walking down paths so dark and morally depraved that she feared his soul was lost forever. And then he found you. And slowly, she saw the light come back into his eyes. And so it did into hers. She couldn’t thank you enough for that. The Queen recalled the day in which Loki arrived home from Midgard after you helped clear his name, the day in which Odin dropped the prince’s exile. His face was blank and set in stone as always, careful not to show any emotion to those who would use it against him and judge him for it. But his eyes were dazzling in a way that his mother thought she will never see again.
You explained how you could not sleep anymore and you needed the fresh air but felt a little guilty about lying to the Queen herself. You couldn’t just tell her you were such a coward that you were hiding from her son.
‘I am surprised I do not see Loki accompanying you,’ Frigga watched you attentively out of the corner of her eye, sensing that it was a strange occurrence to not see the two of you attached by the hip. And she was right, of course, having it confirmed the moment you started fidgeting at her question. Sensing that you were doubting where you were standing with Loki in some way, she decided to let you in on his secret feelings a bit more. It seemed like you two blind morons needed all the help you could get.
‘He talks so highly of you. With such gentleness that the first time I heard it I could not believe my ears, ‘ the older woman said, laughing lightly at how flustered Loki truly was when he first mentioned you. He looked like a little boy who has just told his mother that there is this girl he likes. He was trying to sound as distant as possible but his mother knew right then and there that this woman that he was speaking of was the reason for his change. He has never talked to the All-Mother about anyone before. So when he started describing ‘that infuriating’ Midgardian that meddled with his business and discovered the truth, it was evident to Frigga that there was something more behind that falsely collected tone of voice.
You could not help but instantly blush at her comment, feeling those damned butterflies wreak havoc into your tummy. The thought of Loki praising you to his mother brought a sense of peace over your anxious mind.
‘He is an undeniably special man, your son. I hold him very dear to my heart,’ you stated and felt Frigga take your hand into hers.
‘Be patient with him, child. He is stubborn and proud but there is no doubt in my heart regarding his feelings for you.’
You wanted to retract your hand as soon as you heard that. Was the Queen reading your mind? Was she even able to do that? You knew she taught Loki magic but he never mentioned her to be a psychic. How did she happen to know it was you doubting his feelings that made you so distressed? But then were you so obvious that she could read right into your affections for her son just by how you acted? Did you say too much? Frigga noticed you starting to panic so she soothed your fears with a small squeeze of your hand and a soft smile.
‘I am older and wiser than I look. What you both seek is right in front of you, you just need to open your palms and get it.’ She winked at you and continued, ‘and I suppose you will be wearing green at the ball.’
That left you confused. You furrowed your brows a bit and her Majesty realized.
‘Oh, has he not told you yet? I expect he is a bit nervous then, but Loki insisted that you come and visit us now because of the festivities that will happen these following days.’
Frigga went on to describe how Asgard is hosting the Festival of Colour, an ancient tradition of theirs to thank the goddesses of Spring for what they have offered the Realm during this season. The Kingdom will bustle in celebration with rituals and dances. And it all culminates with an enormous ball where the lords and ladies have to attend dressed in the colour of the one they love the most, a homage to life and love, as the Queen described it. And she assumed you would attend in green. Loki’s colour. She was not wrong if you were to be sincere with what your heart desired. But that was a huge statement, a statement you were not sure the God of Mischief would appreciate.
On the long hallways of the palace, Loki was almost skipping on his way to your chambers. Words and touches from last night kept him awake until the crisp air of the morning drove him out of bed. ‘King of my heart’ is what you called him and he let his cruel mind replay that in his head for hours on end. He felt hope surging through him today, hope that he is not alone in his feelings and that what you said was true. If he were a different man, he would sing ballads of love and affection and twirl and celebrate right now but he was still being careful about not letting his hopes reach too high. There was still a mistrustful part of him that whispered you would never want a man like him. That you were intoxicated and foolish and that when you woke up, you would regret ever voicing those words out loud. But as he tossed and turned last night, weighting down every possibility, he decided that he should fight those demons nagging at every piece of happiness he was receiving and allow his heart to take the lead for once. He was in love with you. And it was paralyzing and frightening but it was the most beautiful feeling he has ever felt. And if someone deserved him fighting his insecurities it was you. So it was settled then, today he was going to confess. Again. But this time you would be sober to hear it. He conjured the most beautiful flowers he has ever seen in his mother’s gardens. Was this too pathetic? Should he do something more grandiose for you? You did not particularly like huge gestures, but rather the small ones which proved someone paid attention to the little things. He could get you something more meaningful, more intimate. He could write something for you. You were always gushing about those love letters girls received in books and movies. But he knew what he wanted to say and he wished to look into your eyes when pouring his heart out.
When he touched the hardwood of your door to knock, he trembled a little. But he was all smiling. Nervous, expectant smiles. No reply came through. He thought you were fast asleep after last night’s celebration so he slowly made his way into your room to leave the flowers next to your bed and wait for you to wake up in your sitting area. But as he pressed the knob, he was surprised to see you were not there. He called your name louder this time, hoping to hear your crystal voice from the bathroom. It never came. He called out to you once more before he started to worry. It was still pretty early and you did not go to him when you woke up as you usually did. Something was either terribly wrong or you were just repulsed by his confession from last night and you decided to flee.
No, he will not let those brutish voices win. You must have gone outside for some air. You shall be alright and come back looking for him soon. He was still set on finding and telling you the truth. His hands were twitching a bit but he was keeping everything under control. You were Y/N, his Y/N and you would never laugh in his face or mock him for his nervousness. You were too kind for any of that. You were always doing the opposite anyway. Learning how to soothe his nerves came easily to you. At first, Loki was questioning whether or not you could read his mind because every time he felt particularly wistful, you knew what to say or not to say, how to touch and hold him and how to whisper in his ear. What a miracle you were, he thought.
And just as he was musing at the thought of you, he heard your bewitching laugh. Moving faster towards the source of the sound, he managed to hear a second voice accompanying yours. Thor. If he would not know any better, he would say his shoulders slumped a little at the realisation. But nevertheless, Thor was a friend, he repeated desperately. So despite the lump forming in his throat, he kept moving towards you.
‘Would you do me the honour of being my partner to the ball, Lady Y/N?’ Loki dropped the flowers with an echo and stumbled back as if he had been slapped hearing those words. Thor was asking you to the ball and Loki could not withstand the mere thought of that. Was his brother so blind not to see his affections that were so clearly directed towards you or did he simply not care? But you did not care though, Loki tried to reassure himself. You just told him last night about how he was your favourite. How you would not leave him for Thor. That had to count for something, right?
‘It would be my absolute pleasure, my prince.’
He felt a small crack into his chest and wanted to vomit right then and there. The walls started spinning and he had to reach his hand towards the tall pillar to steady himself. You promised. You assured him it was not how his cruel little mind thought it was but in the end, it always won. That taunting voice in the back of his skull, it was always right.
Worthless. Unimportant. Unloved.
It chanted those words to him again and again, loudly and harshly and now, more than ever, it stung. Because he allowed you in. He allowed those stupid, damned hopes in when he should have known better. Him? Being the first choice? Pathetic. If he could still be honest with himself now, he would admit that he wanted to cry. But he was no weak being. Emotion is for the weak. So he just turned on his heel, leaving you behind.
Fate is a barbaric little thing though. Because if he would have stayed for one more second, Loki would have heard your following words. He would have understood that you only went to Thor to ask him for advice about you and his brother. You were determined to go and get your love after realisation struck you like lightning. Thor made a joke about you being the queen of this court in no time at the rate you and his brother will move and as freezing water has just been dumped over your head, you remembered what Loki confessed to you last night. He was talking about making you his queen.
So you asked Thor to help you practice how you would respond to Loki inevitably inviting you to the ball. You were so nervous at the thought of that, and it was a bold assumption to make but you felt it was right. He was going to do it, you were sure of it. And with what Frigga was implying, you were almost sure your feelings were reciprocated. It was happiness like you couldn’t imagine.
‘Do not worry one bit, Lady Y/N. My brother may be a weasel from time to time but I love him. And despite him stating otherwise, I know his heart. And right now, I know his heart is only yours to take,’ Thor was smiling like a madman at the prospect of Loki finally getting the love he deserves. He saw the signs in his brother a long time ago, even before the team started getting suspicious and he prayed that you would only feel the same way. Loki did not open up to people, he didn’t let people in. But he did it with you and it meant more than anyone could ever imagine. The day Thor realized you reciprocated his brother’s feelings, was one of the most joyful ones for the God of Thunder. And he knew it was only a matter of time before destiny will bring the two of you together. You thanked Thor with a hug and left to look for Loki with an eagerness you couldn’t contain.
While everyone was assuring you of Loki’s reciprocated feelings, the darkest parts of the God of Mischief were doing the complete opposite to him. Finding his favourite corner in the palace library, he hid behind stacks and rows of books, trying to clear his head. He wanted to cry, desperately and with fervour. You didn’t owe him anything, not your partnership to the ball, not your time and most definitely not your precious heart. And he did not deserve it anyway. So the fact that he just felt so ruined by the realisation that he stands no chance of being loved by you should be pitiable. He should have known better than to hope for the impossible. What forces in this vast Universe would grant him such happiness for free? If there was something that he was deserving of, it was this feeling of emptiness and despair. And he could not blame you for your choice. No matter how much it hurt him to admit to this, Thor was the better brother. The honourable, kind and courageous King-to-be.
He told himself that he will get over his foolishness in silence and act like nothing happened. But a heart in pain does cruel, erroneous things.
‘Loki? Are you in here?’
So when he heard your voice calling out his name in a gentle tone, just above a whisper he lost all sense of control. You finally saw him rise from behind the mountain of books and an adoring smile was plastered all over your angelic features. He grimaced at that. Of course, you were smiling, Thor was courting you.
‘There you are, Mischief,’ you sighed, relieved and reached to wrap your hands around him but he took a step back. The look in your eyes would have made him cave in if it were not for his fragmented heart.
‘Is everything alright, sunflower?’ Despite your desperate need to reach out to him, you kept your hands lingering around your body.
‘Perfectly fine,’ his voice was cold and stoic and your mind was racing a hundred miles a minute. Was he acting like this because of last night? Did you say something back to his confession that hurt his feelings? You couldn’t remember. So you cleared your throat and despite the nerves that started to overtake you, you still managed to speak.
‘I wanted to talk to you about last night.’
Just as you were beginning to gather your courage and pour your heart out, he cut you off with a scoff. Laced with venom, his voice couldn’t come out as harsh as he intended because the look in your eyes was softening his cruel mind but it was still vicious enough that all colour drained from your face.
‘Don’t worry about that, it meant nothing to me.’ The moment these words left his lips, he wanted to take them back. Not only because he saw the light in your eyes go out but because he did not believe them. Last night meant the world to him. You meant the world to him. He wanted to apologize. But he couldn’t take it back now, it was too late for that and too late for the two of you. If there was ever a time, anyway.
Fool. You were such a credulous fool. To ever think that Loki would see you as more than a mere mortal he just passed his time with. Harsh tears were threatening to escape you but you fought them. You will not make a fool out of yourself yet again. Loki opened up his mouth to say something else but you were not sure you were strong enough to hear it. And just as he was starting his sentence, someone else called his name.
‘Prince Loki, you are expected in the Throne Room.’ A guard came bursting in, urging Loki to follow him as fast as possible. You wanted to say something then. Anything. But it felt like your mind went blank.
‘I will be off with duties for the entire day, excuse me.’ That is all he said as he passed by you in the reduced space, making himself so small so that he wouldn’t even grace your shoulder with his. As he passed by you, his hand twitched. He had to fight the urge of engulfing your hand with his and bringing it to his lips to kiss your knuckles and apologize. But instead, he just left you behind. And as he closed the door, tears started to spill like rivers and your heart was split into billions. And as he closed the door, a single hot tear cut his cheek in half as he tried to gain his composure behind the guard.
After you felt like there were no tears left for you to cry and after you scolded yourself for ruining your friendship with Loki, Sif found you on one of the far-off balconies of the palace. And with some unmoving insistence, she convinced you to join her in the city where the lively festivities have already started. Ribbons and fairy lights were hanging from every house and every corner. Music of all kinds was filling the warm air as kids and elders were laughing and dancing, eating and embracing and playing a variety of traditional games that Sif would often pause to explain to you. When the sun hit its apogee in the afternoon, a ceremonial sound erupted in the middle of the market and the crowd parted like the sea. The Royal Family was making its way towards the heart of the city and people were screaming and cheering as they waved and smiled and stopped to make small talk with some of them. Trailing behind them, Loki was keeping his face straight and you could not read any emotion on it if you would not have known any better. You did know better. He was dreading this. For as much praise as Thor was getting, he was receiving hushed whispers. For every smile that Thor was getting sent his way, a frown was directed toward Loki. For every small flag, a child handed Thor, a scared intake of breath was heard for Loki. And to an unknowing eye, he seemed unaffected by all of this. But to you, you could see it all in the blue of his eyes. And you wanted to push everyone aside and take him into your arms and soothe the small wrinkle on his forehead with your thumb and kiss his temple and whisper into his ear about how loved he is. How worthy he is. No matter how harsh his words sounded this morning, he was still the most important person to you. And you just wished that all of these people would see what you see in him. He was good. He was kind and loving and deserving of everything the Universe had to offer. And he made mistakes but he fought valiantly to make everything right again. And for what? In Asgard, on Midgard, scornful looks and hidden whispers were all that he was getting.
For the entirety of the road, Loki’s eyes were focused straight ahead, his chin was up and his posture was impeccable. Like none of this could reach him, like none of their words could touch him. But when he reached the place you and Sif were standing in, like on cue, his head turned and his eyes met yours and for a fraction of a second, relief flooded his unmoving features. And you smiled at him, the first and only person in this God-forsaken market that smiled and waved at him. He stopped in his tracks. He wanted to get to you, if only just for a few seconds so you could lift some of this burden away from him. His skin was itching, calling out for your touch to soothe him. He turned towards you and you started making your way through the crowd. It was like everything in him was calling for you, for your comfort.
And then you lost vision of him when Thor came crushing you and Sif into a hug. As much as you liked the Asgardian’s company, you wanted to be with Loki right now but he was nowhere to be seen. You struggled a bit to get higher on your tip-toes but to no avail. He was gone. After a while, the Royal family blended into the crowd and you and Sif resumed your walk, joined by Thor who was getting approached each minute. You were wondering if someone approached Loki as well. Not long after, your question was answered. Two tall and blonde Asgardian women, dressed in form-fitting attires were keeping Loki company. You froze. Knowing that he didn’t share your feelings was one thing, but seeing him gifting his attention to other women was an entirely different matter. You were so caught up in your own misery that you didn’t notice that you stopped behind Thor and Sif until the God of Thunder called your name. Unable to respond, he followed your line of vision until you heard him mumble something under his breath.
‘I think I will get back to the palace for I grew a bit tired. If you’ll excuse me.’ The two warriors wanted to stop you, but you were gone before their words could reach you.
‘You ungrateful moron, what do you think you are doing?’ Thor pulled Loki aside by his arm as the younger prince yanked his hand away with indignation.
‘How dare you?’ He eyed Thor like he wanted to strangle him and spat his words with disgust while rearranging his shirt.
‘How dare I? What has gotten into you, brother? Y/N was just here looking for you, only to find you entertaining some other company. You better-‘
‘You hypocrite, you come in here and act all high and mighty when you purposely went and asked her to the ball, despite knowing about my affections for her,’ Loki was seeing red, cutting Thor off in the middle of his sentence and pushing him back with unintended force. The audacity Thor was presenting was exceeding all expectations.
‘What? You stupid, scheming fool, it was not like that at all.’
The blonde felt like laughing, as he was regaining his balance. Of course, Loki would stalk and overhear things he shouldn’t. If only he would have heard the entire conversation. Thor began to explain the situation while barely containing himself when the God of Mischief turned his back and walked out on him, threatening his brother to leave him alone. He did not want to hear a petty excuse. Before Thor could as much as turn in the direction his brother walked in, Loki disappeared. Sighing in frustration, the older prince headed towards the palace to find you. This could still be fixed. If only one of you two idiots would listen. What has his life come to, Thor thought amused at himself. Playing match-maker for his stupid, little brother.
The heavy doors of your room were the only thing separating you from the moment of truth. Tonight was your last chance and if this decision was one of a fool, you still will not regret it. Maybe you always knew, deep down that, you were not alone in your feelings. Maybe it just hit you these past few days or maybe you, Thor and Frigga were all wrong about Loki’s affections but for him, you would take that chance. A silver corset was adorning your smooth skin, while the long skirt of your gown was mirroring the emerald shade of Loki’s armour. Emerald rings and earrings were hanging from your fingers and ears and no matter how beautiful and regal the whole attire looked, you couldn’t help but worry. Such a public display of your true feelings. Would Loki like that? It was intimate but grandiose enough for his taste.
After Thor found you drying your tears in your chambers, he explained the entire misunderstanding with the invitation to the ball and how Loki presumed he is surely courting you. And it all made sense, his change of behaviour towards you, his words in the library. Maybe you would have acted the same way with a heart so broken, with a burden so heavy and with doubts so present in your mind as you knew they were in his. As you drew in your last breath, you opened the doors to your chambers only to be met with the most unexpected sight.
With his hand lingering in the air, mimicking the motion of a knock, Loki stood in front of you in all of his regal glory. But just as his eyes lit up at the sight of you, your face broke into an expression of awe at his light blue cloak and blue patterns that were snaking around his armour. Your colour. He was wearing your colour.
You met each other’s eyes and laughed. Both of you laughed sweetly at the sight in front of you. Without the need for any words, you both cupped each other’s faces into your own palms. It felt like you were holding your whole world and you felt Loki pull you in with more force than you were pulling at his beautiful face as your lips crashed into each other. You melted into him, like wax from a flame that was burning too violently. It was all passion. All longing. All love. It was like you’d waited for this kiss for your entire life and now that it came, you knew what you have been missing. Loki’s rough hands were pulling you in closer by your waist and by the back of your neck like he couldn’t ever get enough of you. Both of your hands were on his face, caressing his sculptured cheekbones. He was overtaking every part of your being. You smelled his skin and his shampoo and his hot breath, you felt his sharp cheeks and his starving hands on your body, you heard his lips moving on yours and his breath hitching in his throat. You tasted the mint in his breath and the sweetness of his lips. He was in all of your senses.
And for Loki, this kiss was unlike any other. His knees were weak and his heart was untamed in his chest, threatening to jump out. It was all emotion. All yearning. All love. He couldn’t keep you closer than you were right now but he was hanging on to you like you were his lifeline. And maybe you were. You breathed life into him, you brought beauty back into his world and for that, he would be forever grateful. You were his saviour, his angel. You dug your hand into the deepest pits of Hell and pulled him out of there with no fear and no regret. You never expected anything back from him, for all that you were giving him. But you only had to whisper a wish of yours and he would grant it without a second thought.
The moment you parted gasping for air, his hands softly cupped your face. You leaned towards him to rest your forehead on his and you felt his hands trembling on your skin. Before you could mouth any word, he was already speaking.
‘I am so sorry, my love. So, so sorry.’ You felt his head slightly shaking from left to right, regret lacing his tone and his actions. His hands were still trembling. You placed yours over them to steady him a bit.
‘Shh, baby. It’s alright.’ And it was. Whatever made him come here was enough. You still could not believe what was happening right now. This prince, this God was in love with you, a mortal. At the nickname you just used on him, Loki thought he could perish right then and there.
‘But it’s not,’ he murmured while distancing his forehead from yours so he could see your face better. You don’t think you’ve ever heard him sound so soft. ‘I was cruel to you, I lied to you and I burdened you today with my insecurities and with my venom and you don’t deserve that. I don’t deserve you and-‘
‘Yes, you do, sunflower. ‘ Your voice was fierce when you cut him off. No matter how many times you told him this, he seemed to never understand the light you saw him in. A friend. A protector. A giver. A lover. ‘You deserve so much more than I could ever begin to explain. You are worthy of it. Of all of the love I could ever muster to give you and more,’ you moved your hands on his face now, slowly stroking his cheeks with your thumbs.
He shook his head in denial a bit. He has been neglected, used and tortured, constantly reminded how small he was. And you always fought with so much fire and passion to get him away from those thoughts. To shelter him in your own little world of gentleness and love. He would often call it pointless work. But you vowed to not give up until he could finally see just a glimpse of the man he really was.
‘Norns, I am so - I love you so much,’ he declared with so much sincerity that it shook your heart out of place. ‘So, so much, and I have, for so long’ he was whispering now.
You laughed. A melodic sound escaped you as so much happiness could honestly wreck you in two.
‘I love you, Loki. In ways that I only read in books, in torturous, sweet ways which I never deemed possible.’
‘Such fools, aren’t we? When I could have kissed you like this-‘ Loki said, gracing your lips with his ‘and like this-‘ he continued kissing your forehead and your nose and your eyelids and your cheeks, ‘and like this, and like this, and like this…’
You were both giggling now as his butterfly kisses were tickling your skin. But you cherished them more than you ever held anything dear.
‘Queen of my court and my very soul, would you bless me by being my partner to this ball?’ He said, making a reverence in front of you, a smirk playing on his face.
‘King of my heart, it is all I’ve been expecting.’ You mimicked his gesture and you both pushed each other playfully. On your way to the ball, after you came back from the spell, Loki explained how he was at your door, ready to beg of you, to prove to you that he could love you like you wanted to be loved. And then you told him how stupid he was not to snoop in properly, to hear your whole conversation with Thor. You both laughed. At fate, at yourselves, at how much time you could have gained if only you wouldn’t have been so afraid. But you were both there now.
You have lived and you have craved love so much and you were both so tired of hiding.
You have hidden in your fears and your thoughts and your whispers.
But for just a second, for a mere passing second, if that is all that you could get, you wanted to hide in love, to be sheltered and protected in love. And that is what you and Loki gave each other from that night on. The security of the purest form of love. Not for one second. But for a lifetime.
*This was a bit long and very descriptive but I strived to finish it in time. Please excuse any grammatical errors but I will correct them as soon as I can. It is not one of my best pieces but I hope you enjoyed. Comments would help me improve a lot if some of you would like to tell me what I could have done better. I also take requests.

Loki the God of Stories - 02x06
This is now my favourite scene in the entire MCU, and you can't convince me otherwise.
He has literal tears in his eyes; he had no idea if he would make it, but he still took the risk just to save his friends, and look at him now! An actual selfless hero and one of, if not the most powerful being in the entire MCU! Frigga would be so proud ♡♡♡

Something else I noticed rewatching Thor, the Avengers, and the Loki series:
There is a noticeable shift away from focusing on Loki’s relationship to Odin and Thor to his relationship with Frigga. In the movies, Frigga’s importance to Loki is kind of there but certainly not the focus, we mostly see how his actions affect his father and brother (while disregarding the impact that their patriarchal world had on him). In the Loki series there is very little mention of Thor and Odin, instead it focuses more on how his actions affected his mother: Mobius showed him the video of Frigga trying to reason with Loki, he also used her death to get a rise out of him, Brad later accused Loki of making things harder for Mobius, B-15, and his mother (no mention of his father and brother), and when talking with Sylvie in season 1, Loki reminisced only about his mother and her belief in him.
Then, today, I listened to a podcast about fairytales and the host talked about how actual fairies weren’t actually common in them universally but magic was. Magic is present in fairytales because it allows for the possibility of transformation, the hope of change. It made me think about how important Frigga was for Loki’s ability to transform in this series; she taught him his magic, something that give him his own identity in a world that was dominated by brute male power and strength. Without her nurturing, who knows what Loki would have become in Asguard.
Even though Odin acted like he saved Loki because he took him from Jötunheim where he was left to die, Loki really only had an opportunity to live because of Frigga. Fast forward to the Loki series and in 2x06, we were told by Mobius that Renslayer (another power-driven authoritarian) is the reason Loki isn’t dust in a TVA vent, giving her the undeserved credit for saving Loki, when in reality it was actually Mobius’ belief in him, his nurturing, that saved Loki.
I then realized the parallel between Frigga and Mobius: both are compassionate and nurturing, both of them believed in Loki when no one else would, and they both gave him something he took into his transformation in the end of the series: She gave him his magic, that beautiful green magic that allowed him to give life to the timelines and Mobius offered his “heart of gold” to Loki, the gold that holds together the pieces of his crown and envelopes his throne. Both gave him the opportunity to not just live but become his best self.

AU where Loki doesn’t interfere with Thor’s banishment at all and it takes Thor years to prove himself worthy and when he returns to Asgard everything is just. The same. Nothing seems to have changed at all and everyone greets him like his absence was a minor obstacle that didn’t fundamentally change Thor and the worst part is Loki stepped down from the place as regent without any delay and Thor can’t help but feel there’s something underlaying the way his brother looks at him now and won’t let him touch him and Thor doesn’t know what he could have missed because he doesn’t think he would have found anything wrong with the things around him and how everyone behaves if he hadn’t spent time on Earth reflecting.
#the warriors 4 not being interested in anything Thor ‘learnt’ at all#and making it clear that Thor was punished unfairly and the AllFather’s decision had been harsh#Loki saying he’s happy for Thor and Thor sees the way the smiles are forced and he sees the way Loki avoids any touch#Thor hating the way Frigga talks about Loki’s short regency and Thor’s absence like it wasn’t two whole decades or something#like she’s so grateful to have her other son back without ever addressing why he was gone#Thor just. growing during his time on earth and being much more aware of the behaviour around him#he learns to be critical and assess why people around him may act a certain way#once he realises that it’s possible for him or anyone else to be fallible and make mistakes it’s over for Asgard for him I think#Thor returns and Loki gives him the throne and everyone expects him to obviously have the throne#and Odin is sleeping and Thor isn’t comfortable with the way everyone accepts him as king regent after the banishment#Loki who either never lashed out against Jotunheim or did and it was brushed away and no one thinks about it as anything#but Loki is still deeply affected and acts the way he always would have but Thor can feel it’s not the same#he knows something is wrong and Loki won’t say anything about it and Thor doesn’t know how to bring it up#Thor sees Loki metaphorically receding into the shadows to become a nonpresence so loud Thor hears it even after returning from decades away#Thor goes to Earth and gets his priorities in order gets a new worldview learns not to take what he has for granted#and finds out he actually despised Asgard#he’s been back a week and he can’t stand it

It troubles me when fans find Loki in his own tv series "out of character". Since the first Thor movie, Loki has shown a certain sweetness, protectiveness, and level-headedness that was overcome and eventually self-suppressed by rage and tragedy. He didn't have an environment in which he could thrive and, in Frigga's words, succeed at being who he truly is.
Loki desperately needed a support system outside his immediate family. That support system simply couldn't have been built on Asgard because of:
1. Odin's political machinations, including the intentional creation of an environment rife with sibling rivalry and blatant favoritism.
2. The racist if not xenophobic views of Asgardians.
3. The inherent masculine-dominant, warrior society culture of Asgard.
To break Loki out of his self-destructive patterns, it took the empathy of 1 brainwashed and memory-wiped TVA analyst to rightly recognize that Loki as a person has incredible potential and that he could actively do something about it. That Mobius uses this reasoning for the advantage of the TVA (then under HWR's helm) is a plot point I'll discuss later, but the fact still stands: Loki was given a second chance to be who he really is because of the choice Mobius made to intervene. Loki would have been pruned before he would have had the opportunity to meet Sylvie, B-15, Casey, and OB. This is fact.
Mobius literally drops everything--the case he's actively investigating--to intervene. The fact a minuteman immediately reports the variant of Loki he is most interested in has been taken into custody suggests that Mobius has been planning this intervention for some time.
Tumblr media
Some fans hate Mobius for his treatment of Loki in the first episode. It is, indeed, manipulative, condescending, and to a certain extent, emotionally abusive. I'm not denying any of this, but from a narrative perspective, Mobius, to be a fully well-rounded character, necessarily must have his own flaws and personal conflicts to battle. Loki's evolution as a character, and thus his positive impact on others, would be missing an emotional beat of mutual reciprocation otherwise. That emotional beat pays off in every episode of S2, culminating in the final scene of the final episode. This is to say nothing of the likelihood that Loki would not have been receptive to any form of gentleness at that point in time to begin with.
Crucially, Mobius gets Loki to admit that his villainous persona is exactly that: an illusion constructed in a bid for control. Some viewers might interpret this scene as a shortcut for getting Loki to behave "out of character" by S1E2, but Thor 2 proves otherwise:
Tumblr media
This scene with Thor demonstrates that Loki has a high pain tolerance and is adept at hiding pain. His need to mask his vulnerability, and how that vulnerability is intrinsically tied with the misplaced shame of who he is, resonates deeply with queer, people of color, immigrant, colonized, and adopted fans, many of whom have intersectional lived experiences (including myself). I believe it is for this reason that so many of us are desperate for blatant representation in mainstream entertainment, and to shame us for the sin of hoping is disturbing.
But I digress. Frigga, Thor, and now Mobius are among the few who can see through Loki's deception. That deception has the unfortunate effect of hurting not only innocent civillians but his loved ones and himself (closeting, internalized racism).
Once Loki is able to drop that persona through admission, however, he is able to relax and be himself in the TVA. And in being himself, Loki is consequently able to love himself, which manifests through loving Sylvie. S1 shows Loki holding her up on a romantic pedestal: he chases after her, he sings a song for her, he wants her to be okay. He loves her, yes, and though it appears she does not reciprocate (in my opinion, your mileage might vary), Sylvie does love Loki enough back to buy him a drink and counsel him about what he really wants. This scene is critical in Loki's development in the same way Mobius sheds light on his potential to be whoever he wants.
Both Mobius and Sylvie are integral for Loki to arrive at his turning point, his ultimate sacrifice. Loki loves Sylvie. He therefore chooses to not kill her. Killing her, moreover, would not solve the issue of free will. Sylvie is right in believing free will, and thus the multiverse, is right and necessary. Sylvie's moral question and Loki sparing her life, answers Mobius's belief that Loki can be whoever he wants.
On the other side of this coin, watching Mobius in the final scene, hearing Mobius whisper, "Let time pass..." answers Sylvie's question of what Loki wants, and what he want more deeply than not being alone is for his friends, most especially Mobius (whom he also loves and cares for most, to LIVE.
The series ends with only 2 characters heartbroken with the outcome of Loki's heroism, which Mobius knew existed within him from the beginning. He saw those little but important moments: Loki comforting his brother, Loki protecting Jane, Loki giving up his life to buy Thor time, and so much more, he saw and he knew Frigga's words were right.
