So I finally did it--I created a Tumblr Frog Song!!! It took me all month 'cuz the way these froggies sing made it really difficult to construct something coherent 😭

First off, I typed out what pitches each frog sang and numbered them...

Then I had to sit and think about how to make a song out of these froggies who sing two pitches consecutively each time, a fourth apart... 🤔

I finally came up with this little repeating pattern today, and--thanks to copy and paste and digital playback--I created a layered ostinato of sorts (John Cage and Steve Reich, eat your heart out!)...

Here are the different layers typed out in Tumblr-notation...

Now when I imported the layers into my DAW, I ran into trouble--because these little froggies don't like to keep the same tempo with each other!!! But, using my tools, I "cheated" a little and forced them to at least come slightly more together in tempo... But I didn't want to change them all too much, otherwise it sounded less like frogs and more like annoying robots... which at times they almost do anyway... 😂

Frogs make such a wonderful noise. I absolutely love it.

I had never heard it until today. I took of my headphones and the most amazing noise came into my ears. And I followed it, out of my house, across the street, to the lake in my new neighborhood.

Steve is a great singer and Eddie is always enamored whenever he hears him sing in the car or in the shower. Unfortunately, he only ever sings along to shitty music (or music Eddie considers shitty) so Eddie can never truly enjoy it.

He can never convince Steve to sing any Dio or Iron Maiden. Steve outright refuses to listen to any Metallica and claims it reminds him of the Upside Down, although Eddie thinks it's really because he doesn't like how loud it is. It seems that he only ever knows the words to Simon & Garfunkel, Tears for Fears, and Duran Duran. It grates Eddie's nerves but he tries to appreciate Steve's voice regardless.

One day when Steve starts singing along to 'All the Fools Sailed Away' by Dio, Eddie almost crashes the van in his haste to make out with him. He proposed later that day and from then on, Steve makes sure to know the lyrics to Eddie's "angry metal music". It's always to his own benefit.

During a Twitch stream in Sept 2022, I started a personal project to redraw every item sprite from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in my own style. After a bit of a break, I picked it back up again for two more streams in Feb 2023, and finally finished the last few missing items and icons on my own time in March.

This was a lot more work than I'd initially anticipated; between drawing, colouring, and rendering, it amounted to about 20-30 total hours of labour. It was a really fun undertaking though - I have fond memories of closely studying the old 3D renders in the original N64 game's instruction manual as a kid, and it was a super interesting challenge to compare those with the in-game sprites and models (as well as their counterparts in the 2011 remake) and decide how to blend/adapt those varying designs while adding my own stylistic touches. It was also just really great practice, and there are techniques I learned while working on this project that I was able to almost immediately apply in my professional work! So one way or another, definitely a worthwhile use of my time, and I'd love to try something similar again in the future.

(It'll take a bit before it's ready, but I've also been working in my spare time to implement these into a partial texture pack for the game itself!)

Great Frog is such an accurate indie band name. I feel like the writers were trying to come up with a really silly name and maybe it was actually ridiculous for the time but this could be the name of a local band from my midwestern hometown 100%
