Green Frogs vs. Bullfrogs: What’s the Difference?
With the warmer weather really starting to kick in, it’s finally frog season! With this in mind, I’ve decided to make a post about distinguishing between green frogs and bullfrogs. These species are two of the most often mixed up species in America, and it’s an easy mistake to make. There are several ways to destinguish these species from one another, but here I’ll be highlighting, in my experience, the most easy way to tell.
This here is a green frog. As you can see, two dorsolateral ridges run down the frog’s back (the two raised lines of skin on either side).
As for this bullfrog, no such ridges are present. Their backs are completely smooth! Another difference is that bullfrogs tend to be larger than green frogs, but this isn’t always the case. I hoped this helped! Have fun :)

frogs are amazing animals. despite their fragile appearance and inoffensive ways, they have countless strategies to deal with the most severe climates this planet has to offer. they can be found at the arctic circle, in deserts, in tropical rain forests and practically everywhere in between. some of their survival strategies are nothing short of ingenious. various frog species use two strategies to deal with environmental extremes: hibernation and estivation.
