Spring Awakening Art- Velvet Vineyard
Half-closed eyelashes, half-open mouths, in dark basements full of red velvet...
Let’s skim off the cream
[ID: A portrait style, realistic watercolor painting. It shows profiles of Ernst and Hanschen both about to bite into a piece of cake. Behind them is a dark red curtain, presumably covering a window that leaks light from the bottom and casts their faces and hair in red. Ernst on the left has his eyes partly open and looks in front of him, staring blankly as his mouth goes to close around the cake. He wears a red and yellow plaid button-up shirt over a white t-shirt. Between them, the red velvet cake is a solid chunk, with a layer of white frosting in the middle and frosted on top. Red crumbs have made their way to the edges of the icing. The cake is held on a fork by Hanschen in between them, leaning slightly more toward himself. On the right, Hanschen wears a pink sweatshirt with a gray jacket on top. His eyes are slightly more closed, but still partly open. Both of his lips touch on the piece of cake. The fork reflects shades of red. The top of Hanschen’s fingers are visible. In the bottom right is the artist’s signature.
Other images: The unpainted art in pencil, a closeup of Ernst’s eye and face, and a closeup of the cake and mouths. End ID.]

hiii guilty ones I found a silent movie of fruhlings made in 1929. unfortunately, i can't find the full movie but we have stills! the movie was directed by richard oswald, and starred rolf von goth (who I assume is melchior) and ita rina (who played ilse). no information about wendla or moritz :( the story seems to have been changed a bit, and the characters look older. here are the 3 stills!

This is the vineyard scene from Fruhlings Erwachen, or Spring Awakening, but there’s a catch - the only thing Hanschen can say is “puh”.
Inspiration: https://youtu.be/NAyoLCYQaSc
“I have overworked myself”
“Puh”
“One sees them hanging and can't manage anymore - and tomorrow they
are in the wine press”
“Puh”
“Oh, I can’t eat any more”
“Puh”
“My elasticity has its limit”
“Puh”
“One hardly decides upon a thing, when, see, that vanishing power
begins to darken”
“Puh”
“Sometimes I see myself already as a worthy pastor with a
good-natured little wife, a well-filled library and offices and
dignities all about me - for six days one has to think, and on the
seventh one opens one's mouth; when out walking, one gives one's hand
to the school-girls and boys, and when one comes home the coffee
steams, the cookies are brought out and the maids fetch apples
through the garden door - can you imagine anything more beautiful”
“Puh”
“Let us skim”
“Puh”
“Let us skim, Hans— why do you laugh”
“Puh”
“But one of us must begin”
“Puh”
“And how everything springs from self”
“Puh”
“If by chance one were alone - one might like to weep”
“Puh”
“I left the house with the idea of just speaking to you and turning
back again”
“Puh”
“It fits us loosely as yet; I should not have been content if I had
not met you - I love you, Hans, as I have never loved a soul”
“Puh”

“Imagine the future as a milkshake with sugar and cinnamon. One fellow upsets it and howls, another stirs it all together and sweats. Why not skim off the cream? Or don’t you believe that one can learn how?”
-Frühlings Erwachen, Frank Wedekind (1891)

Help!
If anyone has the bootleg for the German and or Austrian cast of Spring Awakening/ Frühlings Erwachen it would be super cool if you shared it with me. :)
