Potential Spoilers

I’m pissed at Shigaraki character,

It's true that Shigaraki was revealed to be manipulated by All For One, and that his motivations were essentially manufactured by AFO himself. AFO orchestrated the events that led to Shigaraki's transformation. But the bitter taste of disappointment lingers.

When he was first introduced, The series seemed to be setting up a classic hero vs. villain dynamic, where Shigaraki would evolve and challenge the protagonist, much like the way the heroes were growing and I thought he would be a compelling villain who would grow and become the parallel to the protagonist, the World's Greatest Villain.

"My Villain Academia" showed his growth and potential, and I was excited to see where he would go. He’s one of the characters that I had found interesting, so I was beyond excited when he was developing, when it felt like he was growing and then his growth just regress now he’s someone who was mentally shattered by AFO to be used as a puppet, it doesn’t feel like him anymore, am I overreacting? Maybe, but I can’t stand reading the last chapters that involves him anymore,

Initially, I thought Shigaraki's relationship with AFO was a twisted version of Izuku and All Might's mentorship, with AFO trying to mold and have him surpass his mentor. I founded that interesting, his background, his quirk, they were interesting because it felt like was going to become an embodiment of destruction

Remember that epic speech he gave to the heroes during the war arc? That was a moment where he felt like a genuine and intriguing villain with his own motives and convictions. But now, he's reduced to a psychologically dissociated character under AFO's control. It's frustrating because he had so much potential, and it feels like that potential is wasted.

it fucking frustrates me how Shigaraki is a former self of himself, With the whole mind take over thing, I understand that Shiggy is still kind of there, but it really doesn’t feel like it, it doesn’t feel satisfying seeing him anymore, it’s just Afo, who isn’t interesting.

I have no problem with characters being "pure evil" villains if it's done well. However, AFO is just incredibly boring. He's a generic "evil mastermind" who spouts meaningless monologues. His so-called "schemes" are never successful, and it's frustrating to watch, his master traitor plan gets discovered and used against him as soon by a bunch of 14 year olds, for fucks sake. He doesn't have the same depth and complexity as Shigaraki, and that's what makes it even more disappointing.

He doesn’t have the same feels as Shigaraki, and it makes it even more disappointing, it feels more frustrating when the whole “Deku has to save the child inside Shiggy” plot line happened.

I enjoyed Shigaraki's backstory, his character design, and his quirk. He was an embodiment of destruction, and that made him a captivating character. It's disheartening to see him reduced to this state, the abrupt shift in Shigaraki's character arc has left me feeling disillusioned.

Frustrations

Following other developers, learners and makers are great. It facilitates learning and gives inspiration

But one thing that is often missing from people telling about how it is going, is the failures, frustrations and problems any developer will run into.

For this reason, two of my favorite maker youtube channels are Extractions&Ire (Chemistry) and Code Bullet (machine learning). Because these madlads are brave enough to not just show their process and result, but also their failures, mistakes and errors. And how they overcome them. Not always by learning (Sometimes making a dumb mistake is not really something you can learn from...)

It's good, because it's real.

Code tutorials and guides can give the impression that the normal process of development is "Open IDE, code, fix tiny typo error, compile, success". They don't do it out of malice, but out of a want to be concise. Which is fair.

So I also want to share when things do not go so well. I have programmed Atmel's AVR Chips for quite a while now. But I have done it mostly in microchip studio(former Atmel studio) and a bit in the arduino IDE. A job I am currently applying for, uses visual studio code. Which is fair enough. So to prepare for this specific job, and to acquire this quite good-to-have skill, I want to set that up for myself First things first, since I have not done this before, I cannot know if my code would have a weird error so I want to know everything else is working first. So I write a tiny program which simply have the microcontroller increase a number every 2 seconds and write it to my PC over UART. Takes 2 minutes.... I grab one of my Arduino Nano boards and a USB cable for it. And then... I cannot flash it... Its communication protocol have troubles.

I have seen this before. It is to do with the cables not being correct. If they are USB 2.0, very little magnetic noise can cause trouble. (And you cannot tell if a cable runs USB 2.0 or 3.0 by looking at it... because the universal serial bus is not universal... Insert grump rant here) I then spend an hour finding and trying different USB A to USB B-mini cables. Give up, notes down to buy (and MARK) some USB 3.0 versions for the future. I then grab a Arduino Uni instead, as they use USB B, which is much more resistant to noise... And then spend half an hour trying to find a the cable, as I do not have a lot of them, since... nearly nothing uses them. Finally find it, and yes, the program can now be flashed. So I packed all the cables I tested back in their places, after marking them so I will(hoefully) not have to do this again. Had to take several breaks feeling depressed and grumpy, and all in all, this adventure took 4-5 hours. And now I can START on this... And this is how work sometimes is. And that is ok. It is still... VERY frustrating ...

My fics on AO3 will now have their comments moderated.

Because guest users have been using the comment section on my fics to post spam. Seriously, the last two comments (technically three*) I've gotten were spam. And that wasn't the first time.

I don't mind comments but I do mind someone using the comment section on my stories to post spam. Not trying to whine but it's rather disheartening to see the notification e-mail that someone commented on my fic . . . only to discover that no, someone didn't. This 'comment' isn't about my story at all.

My only other option over moderation is restricting comments to registered users. Technically that's where Alley Cat is set on after similar activity . . . I want to give people without an AO3 account the option to comment but I also don't want spam cluttering up my comment section.

Judging by the actions of the people or bots trying to promote it, I consider the website they mentioned - the same one mentioned in the spam comments that got Alley Cat restricted in the first place - to be shady.

*That particular comment attempt was on Kinktober 2023, which was already moderated, didn't mention Shady Website but also had nothing to do with that fic or it's content . . . since the vast majority of it was random words, letters from no-English alphabets, and numbers for at least half a page.
