He had a thick New York accent, the kind that spoke not of penthouses with views of Central Park and close personal friends in the government, but of wares hawked tirelessly on the streets and sketchy convenience stores open 24/7.
sometimes i write lines that i really like, please appreciate me

WIP Bingo!
Tagged by the lovely @antique-symbolism and I’m so excited to do this even though I haven’t actually read the squares yet. Let’s see…
Stay With Me
A story of a girl who, after a traumatic event, goes on a cross-country road trip to lay her ghost to rest—but the ghost doesn’t want to go. Magic and ghosts and tarot.
Tumblr media
No bingo, damn xD
For The Sad Big City Wizards
Several college-age students of America’s only magic school are assigned a quest that turns deadly; realizing their leaders aren’t what they seem, they join up with the enemy to start a revolution. Gritty urban fantasy, dark academia, murders, betrayals, magical battles, slow burn queer romance.
Tumblr media
Still no bingo!
The Rising (unfinished)
A queer, disabled take on the zombie apocalypse genre. Sciencey (ish), field medicine, creepy cults, found family, human perseverance pushed to its limits.
Tumblr media
So close!!! Tbh it’s been so long since I even looked at this manuscript that I may have started something sapphic in it and I’ve just completely forgotten. I know there was a gay poly triad that was established near where I last left off.
Bone of Oak, Blood of Gold (unfinished)
A twist on the faerie changeling trope with an asexual, panromantic MC who finds out she’s the bastard child of two warring fae kingdoms. Talking cats, loving descriptions of trees, self-sacrifice, magic, illusions.
Tumblr media
The worst one yet 🤣
You’ll notice I will never ever use this space:
Tumblr media
Sorry bestie, can’t relate 😂
Here’s a blank copy if anyone else wants to do it too! I’d love to see yours!

THEY DID IT, FOLKS!
Tumblr media
11 years in a row!
The words weren’t flowing this year like they have been for the past few, and for most of the month I was resigned to not continuing my streak (hey, 10 years in a row is a perfectly acceptable win streak), but I buckled down and finished up and I feel like a weight has been lifted.
This year, the plan was to work on the third book in my Stay With Me trilogy, as well as another story I recently came up with the idea for. I finished the Stay With Me story, but it turned out way too short. The others are 50k+, but this one is maybe 30k if I’m lucky, and yet I feel like there’s no more story to tell. Maybe it’ll come to me, or maybe it’ll just be an in-universe novella. Who knows.
I ended up working on that, as well as the new story concept I came up with, in which a guy leaves his friends a scavenger hunt when he unalives himself, because I wanted to write a non-magical YA story about queer high schoolers dealing with reality, but also give it a whimsical touch.
And I also worked on yet another story, a dystopia where androids that share the same servers and networks get a virus that makes them want to eat brains, because they’re programmed to learn, and brains are where knowledge is stored. Yes, android zombies. It’s a cool concept, except I have no idea how I’m going to resolve it in the end.
AND I tried to write some of a sequel to For The Sad Big City Wizards, but it didn’t really go anywhere.
I also included the emails I sent to my therapist during November, because they’re usually pretty long, and I wrote them during November, so IMO they count!

Last Line Game!
Tagged by the wonderful @antique-symbolism :)
He cut her off by coughing up a lung, bending double as she laughed and grabbed her cigarette back before he could set his shirt on fire.
“Those really are death sticks,” he rasped when he’d recovered. “When are you gonna quit?”
“Next year,” she said, tapping ash off the end and watching the orange sparks die in the dirt below.
“That’s what you said last year.”
“At least I’m consistent.”
As usual, if you want to do it, do it and say I tagged you!

Guess who just finished the first draft of their NaNoWriMo novel???
THIS BITCH, that’s who!!!
This book has been an emotional rollercoaster to write, and I can’t believe it’s actually over. I may cry. 🤣 For The Sad Big City Wizards is my queer, diverse, New Adult take on the traditional dark academia wizard school fantasy story. I love the characters and their arcs so much. They grew even more than I initially planned for them to, and I’m so proud of them. The twists and turns of the plot even kept ME guessing until they all came out. 😂 I’m going to take a break from the story, but I can’t wait to come back with fresh eyes and begin the editing process!

WIP word game: weird
Went through my entire Stay With Me series as well as For The Sad Big City Wizards, because why not 🤣
SWM1:
What if I don’t want to get better? I don’t say this aloud. But now, I’m not so sure anymore. Still pretty sure, but no longer completely convinced that I want to die. It’s a weird feeling. I think the buried part of me is getting too close to the surface again.
SWM2:
"Damn," she breathes. "He definitely deserved it. I'm gonna watch myself though, now that I know you can throw a punch."
I chuckle. "I'd never hit you."
"I know you wouldn't. You're too soft."
"Not sure whether to take that as a compliment. You're making fun of me for not abusing you?"
"Don't psychoanalyze my banter."
"Weirdo," I shoot back.
"Nerd."
"Dork."
She raises a mischievous eyebrow. "Hottie."
I roll my eyes. "Hotter hottie."
She laughs and leans toward me; I close my eyes and our lips meet. She tastes like cinnamon and violets, and I feel like at last, I can truly relax.
SWM3:
“Hands,” I tell her, holding out my own. The smoke from the smoldering herbs is whipped away by the wind almost as soon as it’s created, but somehow, none of the flames I’ve lit go completely out, even though logically, they should. I shake my head a little. Weird magic shit, probably, although I’d be more comfortable with a mundane explanation, like my body and the gravestones are shielding them from the worst of the wind, but the way they’re flickering and waving, that’s a load of crap. I really should just surrender to the fact that magic exists, and that it has something to do with me.
FTSBCW:
“I could use some food,” said Iain, suddenly realizing he was ravenous. “Wonder if the Market is open.”
Some students, who didn’t have a safe family or anywhere else to go, became wards of the school, and once they reached age sixteen, they had the choice between legal emancipation or being assigned jobs around the school, such as cleaning or administrative tasks, in exchange for their continued room and board. There was a snack bar called The Market, near the cafeteria, where they could grab necessities and snacks, free to residents of the school. Iain wasn’t sure what the hours were, though.
“It’s always open,” Viktor said, and the rest of them exchanged glances. The chances were that he would only know it was open if he lived here, and living here meant some shit had gone down with his family. Iain wondered what it could’ve been, if maybe whatever happened had also been the cause of his manifestation.
“Oh,” said Sky. “Okay.”
“Don’t make it weird.” Viktor led them to the elevator. He said no more about it, and no one asked questions, all of them intuitive enough to know that any questions on the topic would be more invasive than their fragile relationship with him warranted, even if he were the type to answer them.

Okay but which chapter title should I choose? 🤣
I like to mix funny chapter titles into stories with dark content just to make it feel a bit less heavy. Some examples are:
Blue Skin Is Unnoticeable In New York City
Isn’t Poisoning Students Against School Policy?!
So THAT’S Why He’s Like That
and
In Which A Pillow Does Its Best

I finished the latest round of edits on For The Sad Big City Wizards AND wrote a query letter last night. Does the beginning of it interest you? Why or why not?
I’m so anxious about querying this book, after years of rejection for the last project I poured my entire heart and soul into. And I know I’m bad at selling myself and my work, even though I know the work is amazing (and I have honest outside sources who say so as well, so I know it’s not just ego). I just wish someone would give me a chance.

I won NaNoWriMo!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn’t get to my soft goal of 100k, or my slightly more realistic goal of 80k, but that’s okay! The first draft is almost finished, and I don’t love it in its current state, but I have a feeling that with some love, it’s going to be amazing!
And now I can finally change the font from Comic Sans. 🤣

Guess who finished NaNo last night?!

I’m going to casually try for a double this year like I did in 2017, but I’m not going to be too hard on myself.
The story is going amazingly and I can’t wait to finish it!
